Delegates make pledges to boost women’s participation across the County On Friday 9th October a unique event took part in Telford, a ‘Women Make Sport’ Conference, aiming to boost the number of women who are active across the County. More men are active than women every week, which Energize and other local organisations are seeking to change. At the event, Graham Macpherson from Sport England gave a workshop about their support to increase participation by women and girls, prompting much discussion and pledges from delegates, promising to put their words into action following the event. England Netball and the Amateur Swimming Association shared their marketing tips to draw women’s interest, and Sports Coach UK encouraged discussion on the role of the coach, with further support offered to increase the number of female qualified coaches introduced from Energize in the form of a new coach bursary round.

Over 50 delegates took part in the event, including local sports clubs, schools, National Governing Bodies of Sport, leisure facilities and students. Click here for the full event report Energize’s next Conference is a Funding Roadshow on Tuesday 17th November Click Here.

Bright future for Shropshire-based football club as they unwrap £20,000 floodlight Prees-ent The new floodlights will allow Prees FC to train at their home ground in the winter months. Prees Cricket and Recreation Club officially unveiled their new portable floodlights recently (Friday 25 September), at Prees FC's first training session under the new lights. The lights cost £19,630 in total and were made possible thanks to a £9,815 grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, which is delivered by the Football Foundation. The remaining funds needed were raised through 5 years of fundraising. The new floodlights will allow the club to train at their home ground in the winter months, something not previously possible. Money from the grant also allowed the club to buy new storage containers, which will ensure the floodlights are stored safely. The Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund is funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government, via Sport England. It is delivered by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 13,000 grants worth more than £530m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £740m – over £1.3bn of investment into the grassroots game. Since 2000 the Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 102 grants worth £7.8m towards grassroots sports projects worth over £30m across the whole of Shropshire. http://www.footballfoundation.org.uk/

Table Tennis England Today Table Tennis England launches the Disability Table Grant Scheme to help more disabled people get into table tennis. On the same day, the English Federation of Disability Sport has teamed up with Table Tennis England for a competition, where groups can win a fantastic prize! The initiative gives the opportunity to organisations or charities which work with people with disabilities or impairments to purchase a table tennis table at a subsidised rate, with prices starting from ÂŁ160. Sport England is providing the funding for the scheme. Table Tennis England is passionate about creating more playing opportunities for people with disabilities and impairments and in May this year signed up to the English Federation for Disability Sport (EFDS) Charter for Change. It works on an application basis. Applicants should work with over16s. Click here to download the application form ‘Case study’ The benefits of table tennis on health and wellbeing are well established, and disability projects involving the sport have had some very positive results.
