Mallorca is becoming a sustainable island In Mallorca, the dialogue on conservation and sustainability has intensified and the climate crisis and pandemic have enhanced this development. Far away from mass tourism, the exciting environmental movement is campaigning to maintain the island's stunning beauty.

One example is the Cleanwave Foundation founded by Line Hadsbjerg and Philipp Baier, which sets out to reconnect people to nature. The Foundation was initially started in response to the growing plastic crisis across the Balearic Islands, which threatens the fragile ecosystem on Mallorca.

The plastic prevention initiative, Cleanwave.org sets out to provide alternatives to single-use plastic, and has set up a network of water refill points and public fountains across the islands. The work of Cleanwave and others has produced concrete results and since March 2021 the Balearic Government has banned the sale of single-use plastic.
