Hiking
Throughout the island, numerous beautiful and breathtaking hiking routes have been marked. In many places, the mountainous landscape offers stunning views of both the mountains and the sea.
Coll Baix
Is well worth the walk to get to the cove at the other end! From the parking at the Refugi del Coll Baix to the beach takes around 45 minutes, the walk starts on an easy path through woodland but the second part is not so easy, the terrain is steep and pretty uneven in some parts, you will need proper shoes or trainers. You need to be fit to do this because you have to come back the same way, going uphill!
Coll Baix location
Please scan the QR Code to see the location on Google Maps.
An alternative route for seasoned walkers, and one that is spectacular starts out at the Ermita de la Victoria in Alcudia, ascending to the Talaia d’Alcudia, from where there are incredible views, and then descending to Coll de s’Engolidor and to the peaceful pebble beach of Coll Baix. The excursion is a total of 11.9 km there and back, unless you have a car to pick you up at the other end. The category is DIFFICULT (note there is only shade at the beginning of the walk).

Cala Boquer
Perfect for walking with children, but better not to go in sandals, the walk is along the Boquer valley. The trail starts in Puerto Pollensa and ends at a small, cove with pristine waters and where goats are often seen if there is food available! Each way of this EASY trail takes about an hour without rushing and is approximately 7 km there and back.

Cala Murta
An intense hike from Puerto Pollensa to Formentor to the summit of Puig Fumat for breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and then down to the cove. The entire route covers about 9 km and requires proper hiking footwear. An easier option for families with children is to drive towards the Formentor lighthouse, at around km 13 there will be a sign on the right for Cala Murta, the cove is about 2 km from the sign.
Cala Figuera
Reach this beautiful rocky cove by driving to the Formentor lighthouse. At kilometre 13.5, there is a sign indicating access to the cove, the path is steep in both directions and it takes about an hour to descend.

Beaches and coves
The coastline of Mallorca is composed of rugged cliffs, small pebble and sandy coves, as well as extensive sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters, offering a wide choice of conditions for sport and family activities.
Alcudia Bay
The horseshoe bay of Alcudia is the longest stretch of sandy coastline in Mallorca, with shallow, calm waters and with many services such as lifeguards, umbrellas, sunbeds, and beach bars. In the north it encompasses the beaches from Alcanada to Son Serra de Marina and then carries on around to Caló dels Ermitans and Punta d’es Caló in Artá.
Alcanada Beach
200-meter-long and 20 meters wide, the earth/sand and stone beach has crystalline waters and there is natural shade under the pine trees dotted along the shore. There is an 18-hole golf course behind the beach and an islet with a lighthouse. There are no services on this beach.
Alcudia Beach
From the lively marina of Puerto de Alcudia and stretching around 7km to the spectacular Playa de Muro. Once out of the urban centre this is a fabulous fine white sand beach with little or no waves of any significance. The sea floor is sandy and shallow, making it a great beach for children. There are a variety of restaurants and shops close to the beach.
Playa de Muro Beach
Between Puerto de Alcudia and Can Picafort, is a prizewinning paradise that has restaurants and leisure facilities, hotels, etc., quieter stretches and absolutely virgin stretches with soft dunes and pine trees.
Can Picafort Beach
An urban beach with fine white sand and shallow waters, there are many shops and restaurants along the waterfront and there are sunbeds, umbrellas, kayak, SUP equipment, and peddle boats for hire. For sun and fun in the summer, and a great place to walk in winter.

WELCOME BOOKLET | ISLAND INFORMATION
Son Serra de Marina
Virgin beaches for those in the know, soft white sand, sand dunes and rocky areas kissed by turquoise waters lapping at the shoreline. There are little or no services on the beach, only a few restaurants. Water currents can be deceptive in Son Serra, take heed of the flags flying on all beaches!
Pollensa Bay
Also, a well sheltered bay from Cap de Formentor to L’Ermita de la Victoria and the coves of S’Illot. The bay is one of the best places to start sailing or engage in one of the other many water sports (windsurfing, kayaking, kitesurf, etc.). There is a diverse coastline of golden sand, rocks, a mix of sand and stones, and also wilder, natural coastal areas with sand and seaweed.
Formentor Beach
Simply paradise. Located on the peninsula that forms the northern most point of the island, bordering Pollensa Bay. The beach is a kilometre narrow strip of white sand bordered by a pine forest that merges with crystal-clear waters. The best way to get there is by public transport, either by bus or boat from the Port of Pollensa. Car access is very restricted during the season, this is a very busy beach in summer.
Puerto Pollensa Beach
A beautiful and extensive beach with fine sand, sheltered from the waves. It offers many services such as lifeguards, sunbeds, umbrellas, pedal boats, showers, toilets, beach and water activities. Nearby facilities include restaurants, bars, and shops. Its shallow depth and calm waters are ideal for children.
Sa Marina Beach
A beach with rocky areas, sand, and seaweed at the very end of Puerto Pollensa and entering Alcudia. It has shallow waters, but great wind condition for kitesurfing. Parking is available nearby.
Sant Joan and Sant Pere Beaches
Beautiful sand and rock coves with clean, shallow waters in Mal Pas, Alcudia, and with stunning views of the Formentor coast. They are ideal for children although parking is not easy if you do not get there early.
Cala San Vicente Beach
Located at the end of the Tramuntana coast in Pollensa, composed of three small coves with sandy or rocky shores and turquoise blue crystal-clear waters. There are sunbed, umbrella, and lifeguard services.
Other areas
Cala Agulla
In the middle of the Llevant natural park and close to the village of Capdepera, a beautiful bay with sand dunes, rocks, pine trees, and native coastal plants. It has sunbeds, umbrellas, and 2 beach bars.
Es Trenc
In the southernmost part of Mallorca, close to Sa Rápita and Colonia Sant Jordi, it is a 7 km stretch of sand within a nature reserve. Some sections offer umbrella and sunbed rental, along with some beach bars. The fine sandy beach slopes gently into the sea and is especially ideal for families with children, and there is a nudist bathing area for naturists.
Cala d’Or
In the southeast of the island, the small bays of Cala d’Or are perfect for spending a day at the beach but might be somewhat overcrowded in the summer. Cala Gran, Cala Serena, and Cala Esmeralda are the most famous coves in the municipality. There are sunbeds, hammocks, and various beach bars.
Cala Tuent
On the wild and rugged northwest coast of Mallorca is a magical bay with a tranquil beach. The Serra de Tramuntana Mountain range extends in this region and reaches the coast. There is no public transportation, and access is only possible by car along a narrow winding road, or by boat.
Cala Varques
Cala Varques is located about 2km south of the tourist town of S’Estany d’en Mas on the east coast of Mallorca. This charming bay features a beautiful sandy beach and is known only to well-informed visitors and locals. The approximate 20-minute walk from where you can park your car is not easy, however, the destination is well worth it!
Cala Torta
A sandy beach about 10km from Artá in the northeast and surrounded by a mountainous landscape with rocky areas. There are no hotel buildings or a noisy promenade to disturb the tranquillity in this lovely cala, which is flanked on either side by rock.
Cala Deia
A small cove in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, northwest of Mallorca. The beach is only 70 meters long, mainly covered with small pebbles and large rocks. Enjoy green-blue waters and majestic mountain landscapes. Perfect for snorkelling and for enjoying a great seafood meal in one of the two restaurants – make sure you book!

Cabo de Formentor is one of the most beautiful places on the island of Mallorca, located in the municipality of Pollensa. Along the approximately 18-kilometer drive, and featuring spectacular high cliffs and breath-taking views. Note that during the high season, private cars are not allowed; access is limited to public transportation or prearranged bus tours. Along the way, mandatory stops include Mirador de Sa Creueta with views of Colomer Island and the beautiful Formentor Beach. The road ends at the Faro de los Cuatro Vientos (the lighthouse of the four winds).
Alcudia old town
With its emblematic city wall around a fabulous, historical centre and the Roman ruins of the ancient capital Pollentia on the edge of town, make Alcudia a must-see town. It is also home to traffic free streets, and lots of restaurants, bars and super shops.
Pollensa
In the heart of the Serra de Tramontana, Pollensa with influences from all who have invaded her, is a beautiful town, with narrow streets, plenty of shops and eateries, a grand central square where on Sundays you will find a bustling market. Climb the 365 steps of the Calvario for outstanding views, or alternatively check out the various churches, the museum and many other interesting places of historical interest. Cool off in one of the many bars and simply watch the world go by…
Other places and things to do
Sa Calobra
Is an enchanting, tiny coastal village, at the end of a gorge of the Torrent de Pareis, but the approach is along a single road full of steep, hairpin turns, the drive is complicated, an excursion by bus or a boat from the Port of Soller is definitely the best option. However, if you are a seasoned cyclist this is one of the most iconic routes on the island. The highlight is the beach at the head of the Torrent de Pareis, the entrance to which is flanked by theatrical cliffs formed by the canyon.
The Sóller Train
Travel back in time and enjoy the wonderful landscapes on Mallorca. This iconic antique wooden train has been in operation since April 16, 1912, initially powered by steam and eventually changing to electricity in 1929. Expect to be charmed by the scenery and the vintage carriages and locomotive.

Typical products of Mallorca
Sobrasada
A Majorca classic. A cured sausage made from ground pork, characterized by its red colour as a result of the paprika used in the preparation. It can be sweet or spicy. A durable product ideal for taking home. It is great just spread on the local bread, or eaten with salted crackers, and is also used in various recipes.
Ensaimada
The queen of desserts that can be enjoyed for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or at any time. Spiral-shaped, ensaimadas can be plain or filled with vanilla cream, chocolate, “cabello de ángel” (a type of pumpkin preserve), and even be found with pieces of sobrasada on top. The name comes from the Arabic word ‘saïm,’ meaning lard, which is still used in the traditional recipe.
Olive Oil
With a designation of origin, is a Mediterranean staple you will find on every Majorcan table. The best way to savour a good olive oil is a traditional “pa am oli”, a piece of rustic bread, oil, salt and cured ham or cheese, it is the best! There are over 800,000 olive trees on the island, some are centuries-old, and the distinctive olives have an extraordinary quality.
Liqueurs
“Hierbas” is a traditional liqueur and in the past every family had their own secret recipe. It is made from anise-flavoured brandy with various herbs such as fennel, rosemary, chamomile, orange and lemon leaves, mint, lemon verbena, etc. Depending on the added sugar, it can be sweet, dry, or mixed. Other liqueurs that were traditionally consumed as aperitifs include “palo con sifón” (made from the maceration of quinine and gentian) and “mesclat” a popular liquor during Matanzas (pig slaughters), made from Cazalla (dry anise) and Palo.
Variat Mallorquí
A distinctive dish of assorted, typical tapas that blend different flavours and textures on the same plate. It is the preferred dish for locals to have as a mid-morning snack, or as a substitute for the main meal. It may include a Russian salad, “frito mallorquín” - a traditional lamb, pork or seafood fry up with liver, kidney, octopus, veg and other bits and bobs all cut up small and very delicious, calamari a la romana, “picapica de sepia” (cuttlefish snack), tripe, tongue with capers, meatballs, vegetables in breadcrumbs, and croquettes.
Mallorcan Wines
Majorcan wines are recognized for their quality and unique characteristics, and many have received prizes, local grape varieties include Manto Negro, Callet, Premsal Blanc, Fogoneu, and Gorgollasa. There are various wineries where you can taste and buy the wines directly (by appointment).
Almonds
In 2014, the European Union granted Protected Geographical Indication to Mallorca Almonds for the entire EU territory. The most typical almond desserts include “gató,” “panellets,” and almond ice cream, a local specialty. Once a year from late January to February, the almond trees blossom, providing a magical spectacle across the island. There are numerous routes to admire them on foot, by car or by bike. We highly recommend you take the old train from Palma to Sóller to see them in all their glory, together with the citrus orchards.

Leather Products
Inca is the leather capital of Mallorca, and home to factories and shops that sell internationally recognized brands of footwear, handbags, and clothing. Outlet stores can be found in the city centre, along with various shops on the outskirts offering excellent bargains.
Pearls
Have been produced in Majorca for over 100 years, and were first developed to provide beautiful jewellery that was accessible to the less wealthy. They are so well made that it is hard for a trained eye to tell the difference and they are very affordable.
Lenguas Fabric
The distinctive and wholly Mallorcan fabric is brilliant, beautiful colours, excellent quality and worth every Euro (it does not come cheap!). The technique used to create this pattern is called ikat, an ancient dyeing technique for threads before weaving. Each piece is unique due to the small variations that occur during dyeing and weaving. It is characterized by its zigzag stripe pattern resembling tongues of fire, hence its name. It is commonly used in cushions, tablecloths, curtains, or aprons. Visit Teixits Vicens in Pollensa to see the cloth first-hand.
Espadrilles
Also known as “espardenyas,” were the traditional footwear of Mallorca. An affordable shoe aimed at the humblest classes, consisting of a sole made of braided plant fibres and an upper part made of fabric. Today, it has become the ideal summer footwear.
Terracotta
There is a long tradition in ceramics, and pottery has evolved over time into a decorative item. However, clay pots are still used in homes for slow cooking. Among the most characteristic pieces are “greixoneres” (glazed clay casserole dishes), “gerretas felanitxeras” (small jugs decorated with numerous reliefs), “cuencos ribells” (ribbed bowls), painted roof tiles (decorated with various motifs on the curved inner surface), and much more.
Clay Siurells
These are amongst the favourite souvenirs taken home from Mallorca. Some consider them talismans used to ward off evil spirits, while others say they were once used by farmers to control animals or were gifts given by young men to unmarried women. They are basically a whistle in the form of figures painted in white with details in green and red.
Mallorcan Glassware
Glassblowing is an art passed down from master to apprentice and takes many years to master. Handmade pieces are unique, and no two are the same. The most famous glass in the region is the rose window of Palma Cathedral. Currently, Mallorca is home to three traditional glassblowing factories – Gordiola, Lafiore, and Menestralia – where visitors can watch master glassblowers introducing metal tubes into molten glass and then blowing through the tube to shape it.
Basketry
Originally used for making agricultural and maritime products, these products have adapted to modern times, becoming stylish and contemporary. The material comes from the palm trees found in many mountainous areas of Mallorca, along with native cane and reed. There are countless varieties of products, with one particularly typical item being transformed into the “ best straw bag in the world” being the “senalla de paja,” suitable for shopping in the market or going to the beach, etc.

The festival of St. John's (Sant Joan)
One of the most popular summer celebrations in Mallorca. Held at night between June 23 and 24, marking the end of spring and the beginning of summer. In many places like Muro and Alcudia, it is celebrated with music, dance, family barbecues, and fireworks on the beach. People gather around bonfires, and some even swim, believing that doing so will preserve good health.
Moors and Christians (Pollensa)
From July 26 to August 2, the patron saint festivals of Pollensa are celebrated. These festivals are among the most famous and spectacular on the island. On August 2, the last day of the festival, the most important event take place. On that day, thousands of people gather to re-enact the battle that took place in 1550. In this battle, the Christians, led by Juan Mas, defeated the pirates led by Dragut. Do not get caught up in the narrow streets, the crowds are intense!
La Beata (Santa Margalida)
The festivities of La Beata, the patron saint of Santa Margalida (commemorating the beautification of Majorcas only native saint, Santa Catalina Tomàs I Gallard) take place on the first weekend of September. It is one of the most traditional festivals in Mallorca, and a recreation of the Saints life but with a lot more colour, music, dancing and partying.
Virgin of the Assumption (Can Picafort)
The first two weeks of August mark the patron saint festivals of Can Picafort, which is full of fun and activities. These weeks are filled with fun for both children and adults, with workshops, foam parties, concerts, and much more. The most anticipated day is August 15, which is also a national public holiday (Assumption of the Virgin Mary). At noon, rubber ducks are thrown into the sea from boats (near the shore) and participants have to get in the water and collect as many as they can, some of the ducks represent a bigger prize. The day ends with a fabulous fireworks display accompanied by music at midnight.
Sant Antoni
Sant Antoni is a festival of barbecues, parades, and night time events. Enjoy the night of January 16 as bonfires are lit throughout the streets in numerous towns, such as Muro, Pollensa, and Sa Pobla, and plenty of eating, drinking and singing marks the night. The next day, January 17, officially marks the festival of Sant Antoni and is also celebrated in various towns, perhaps the bestknown activities are in the old town of Pollensa, starting with the blessing of animals as they parade around the streets, and then the multitudes walk to Ternelles to fetch down the Pine tree that will be brought to the centre of town through the narrow streets and then young men will attempt to climb it. During the final part of the festival, it is advisable not to take young children, there is a lot of pushing and pulling in the crowds.
La Fira Náutica y de la Sepia
This fabulous fair takes place in April in the Port of Alcudia. You have the opportunity to be inspired by traditional regional dishes. Over 30 local restaurants will set up their stalls over the weekend of the fair, around the Plaça de sa Quarentena, to showcase their traditional cuttlefish dishes and surprise visitors with new culinary delicacies.
Traditional Craft Fairs - Alcúdia and Pollensa
In October (Alcudia) and November (Pollensa), you can discover regional agricultural, artisanal, and gastronomic products at the Craft Fairs held in Alcúdia and Pollensa. The events are accompanied by a colourful program, including live music, various exhibitions, and traditional acts including the parade of "Caparrots," giants figures representing characters of importance from Majorcan history.
