LANDSCAPING

HARD LANDSCAPING Textured and coloured concrete pavers will be used on the road service to make road users aware of pedestrian traffic that is prioritised where demarcated. Concrete footpaths will be used where pedestrian traffic is directed to more private and intimate spaces in between the buildings. These private spaces in between the residential units should be paved with a high quality concrete paver that provide colour and texture. Neighbourhood streets refer to roads where the pedestrians are the main user and car users are forced to slow down and be very careful where driving through these areas. These roads will become outdoor play areas where cycling, skateboarding and j-boarding takes place. Seating walls located in the community park with associated Braai and Playground equipment, provide valuable informal elements around which the park landscape was designed.

SOFT LANDSCAPING Indigenous planting mixes that compliments the architecture and respects the local geographic location (‘sense of place’). Water wise gardening principles will be adhered to. Plant choices will consider endemic plant use to incorporate an automatic irrigation system with rainfall sensor. Once plants are established it could be considered to remove irrigation system altogether. Planted embankments create a green buffer between the parking bays and residential units. The central linear park landscape will be landscaped with shaped mounds and seating walls. Park lighting illuminating the landscape at night. Formal clipped hedge provide a neat appearance surrounding the residential units. These boxed hedges also provide a buffer between private and public spaces.
