Passivhaus construction Originally developed in Germany, the rigorous ‘Passivhaus Standard’ is a ol ntary standard or energy e ciency in buildings, reducing their ecological footprint. Utilising this standard results in ultra-low energy buildings, which require minimal energy for heating and cooling; in theory, greatly reducing your household energy bills. Properties that have been constructed to ‘Passivhaus Standard’ commonly have greater levels of insulation, triple glazing, and sources of renewable energy. In 2016 Lilly Lewarne Architects designed 20 new eco homes, which have been constructed to ‘Passivhaus Standard’ in Hayle. Having guided this project from inception to near completion, Lilly Lewarne

have experience in the design and construction processes for creating your ideal ‘Passivhaus Standard’ home. The ‘Passivhaus Standard, is currently the leading standard in energy e cient constr ction, re iring as little as 10% of the energy used by conventional central European buildings – meaning savings of up to 90%! A new lease of life

for your kitchen

Whether you want to relax on your own or chill out with friends, a hot tub is the perfect addition to any holiday. Cornwall is as popular now as it’s ever been as a holiday destination, but visitors are increasingly looking for somewhere that has that little something extra special and hot tubs are now in the top three search criteria for holiday homes to stand out.

Dream Doors in Truro provides a made-to-measure service for those looking to update their kitchen. Owner Matt tells us: “Whether it’s changing just doors and drawers, or a com lete refit, we’re able to provide a local, specialised and customer-focused service.” Impressively, by just replacing doors and drawers – all of which, don’t forget, are made to measure – you could save up to 50% compared to the costs of a brand new kitchen, and it’s quite amazing to see just how much difference it makes. “We offer all the on-trend colours,” Matt continues, “including graphite black and dark blues, as well as classic creams and white. There’s also a vast choice of styles from slick and contemporary to classic

A royal honour for inspirational charity founder The founder of sailing charity, Turn to Starboard, has been recognised for his work with injured Armed Forces personnel. Chief Executive, Shaun Pascoe, was presented with The Henry Worsley Award by Prince Harry and Megan Markle at the Endeavour Fund Awards on Thursday 7th February. These awards celebrate the achievements of wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who have taken part in remarkable sporting and adventure challenges to help with their recovery. Shaun, a former RAF Squadron Leader, was nominated in recognition of how he has inspired others with their recovery through sailing, following his own diagnosis of post-traumatic stress.

Kitchens and Bathrooms’

new range

Now Kitchens and Bathrooms are very excited to be able to showcase the launch of a new range from Masterclass Kitchens including Shaker design kitchens in a selection of sumptuous on-trend colours, complemented by a collection of gorgeous freestanding furniture. The Hardwick is a pure painted ash range of 26 on-trend colours providing a modern take on a classic door, ideal for coastal living. Comparably, The Shelford provides a more classic look in a range of nine silk colours, including a new colour to the Now Kitchens palette: ‘Inkwell,’ an opulent dark blue. Or, if you want a more natural look, the Wimbourne ash door has an n ainted, wood grained finish.

He tells us: “It’s thanks to the support of amazing organisations such as the Endeavour Fund, along with the incredibly sel ess team at rn to tar oard, that we can continue to provide our service to those who need us most and continue to change lives for the better.”

The choice at Now Kitchens also extends to include a new range of freestanding furniture with customisable coffee tables, sideboards, drawers and dressers. Big is beautiful at Jo Downs

Looking to sell your property?

Handmade Glass

According to My Place in Cornwall, quality photographs are the most important marketing tool when selling your property. A photograph speaks ol mes and is the first thing a yer will see, so it’s vital to ensure your house looks its absolute best. For the exterior ‘wow’ shot, be sure the photographer visits on a sunny day. If not, ask them to pop back another time; any good agent will be happy to do this for you. The kitchen is the next most important, being the heart of the home. Interior photographs will also look more attractive on a bright day, particularly if your home enefits rom nat ral light anyway.

My Place in Cornwall offer professional photography as standard, at no extra cost, meaning yo can e confident yo r property will be showcased at its very est. hy not gi e the team a call and find out how they can help you? For more information call 01208 813874 or visit www.myplaceincornwall.co.uk

hat does a luxury holiday mean to you? For most of us it calls to mind the best of the best in terms of location, accommodation and facilities. Whether it’s a stunning hotel set above the cliffs of Cornwall’s wild surf or a high spec self-catered home with all the special features of incredible location coupled with those extra touches like hot tubs and private pools. Whatever luxury means to yo , yo re s re to find it within Cornwall’s luxury holiday market and to make your life easier, we’ve weighed up the various differences between luxury hotel and selfcatered accommodation in Cornwall, so that you can make an educated decision on what sector would suit you when booking your next coastal escape.

Luxury hotels

any o ornwall s finest hotels are set in breathtaking coastal locations around the county. Take the Headland Hotel for example, which couldn’t be closer to the wild surf of the north coast (see page 104 for more information). The St Mawes Hotel, located on the Roseland peninsula is also situated in a beautiful coastal location in St Mawes village, with surrounding pubs, shops and beaches to explore. Then there are grand hotels such as The Penventon Park Hotel, which is located in a gorgeous rural location surrounded by historic countryside rich with mining history. hen thinking a o t hotel stays the first thing that comes to mind is indulgence, as the hotel package provides everything you could need for an utterly relaxing escape. Indeed, for many of us it’s the luxury of not having to li t a finger that sways the alance in a o r of a hotel stay. Hotels like Merchants Manor and Budock Vean (as seen in our wedding supplement) have exceptional onsite spa facilities, gyms and restaurants for you to enjoy. Not to mention that the hotel service means there’s no cleaning or cooking to worry about, so you can make the most of a hasslefree holiday.

Room service to me is the ultimate indulgence; knowing that when you return to your hotel at the end of the day you’ll be greeted by a beautifully made bed and a clean room makes a change to life at home, and it’s the small touches like this that really make you feel like you’re on holiday. Plus, if you don’t want to head to the restaurant, there’s always the glorious option of getting breakfast in bed or a cosy dinner for two in your room. The onsite facilities often also include kids clubs, which The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, and the Polurrian Bay Hotel on the Lizard excel at. Located right next to the epic surf of Fistral beach, The Esplanade provides a brilliant selection of kid’s activities, so that you can free up some time to spend with your other half – or maybe even book a relaxing spa treatment. Modern family life can be demanding so being able to take some time to yourself is a real treat. Similarly, the Polurrian offers a truly comprehensive childcare service with two hours of free childcare per day, a free baby listening service and a Sunday morning kids club so that you have the option to curl up under the duvet with your partner, a coffee and a newspaper, for an extra few hours of relaxation. Giving you the luxury of some free time to yourself. Or, if you want a holiday that doesn’t revolve around children, there’s also the option to book into an adult-exclusive hotel. Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa is one such hotel, offering four-star facilities and complete peace and quiet from hectic family life. As the name suggests it also has stunning spa facilities, which will whisk you away to a state of utter calm.

When it comes to choosing a holiday home company to book with, it’s important to bear in mind where you want to be based. Latitude 50 and John Bray Holidays specialise in properties in north Cornwall (to see one of John Bray’s stunning holiday homes head to page 88), while Padstow Breaks deals excl si ely with ro erties in adstow, ro iding ni e coastal esca es by the sea. Then there are the companies that ha e ro erties thro gho t ornwall, so knowing where you want to spend your holiday will help narrow down your search. Many hotels (such as the Polurrian and Budock Vean) are now choosing to capitalise on the in x o holidaymakers who may prefer self-catering accommodation, and in reaction to this are introducing apartments or cottages on hotel gro nds, ro iding amilies with the ri acy and a tonomy o self-catered accommodation alongside all the excellent hotel facilities that are just a stone’s throw away.

Then there’s The Oceanic Suite Hotel, which ro ides the ltimate mix o fi e star hotel acilities with stylish a artment li ing, excl si ely or grown s. imilarly, the self-catered sector are introducing additional l x ries like tailored concierge ser ices and in-house catering options, which Latitude50 offer for their incredible property Carn Mar in ol eath, so yo don t ha e to worry a o t cooking or cleaning dishes while staying in your home from home. So we see a kind of merging between the two accommodation sectors occurring within the market, which nods towards the enefits that oth o tions ha e and shows that the way forward for luxury accommodation in Cornwall could be to become a hybrid of the con enient l x ry o a hotel and the cosy ri acy o sel catered accommodation. nd whate er yo re er, yo re s re to find it in a ndance within ornwall s thri ing accommodation market.

Mawgan Porth itself has fast become one of Cornwall’s most highly soughtafter destinations. The gold, sandy beach is famous for watersports activities and excellent swimming waters, while fine dining is only a short scoot away at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen in Watergate Bay and, of course, the esteemed Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, just a few miles along the coast in Padstow. It is absolute essential that anyone interested in this superb opportunity contact Jackie Stanley and view the site in person. BRING THE SPA HOME Enhance your lifestyle at home with a spa or hot tub from OC Spas.

T

here are a whole host of benefits to buying a hot tub from OC Spas. Whether it’s for social occasions, quality family time or for a spot of hydrotherapy for those leading more active lifestyles, nothing beats sinking into a hot tub, particularly on a cool Cornish evening when the stars are out. We catch up with Mr and Mrs Parsons from Newquay, who recently acquired a Nevis 45 Spa from the Artesian’s Island Spa range. A class leader in hydrotherapy, the Artesian’s Island Spa range combines power with world-class energy efficiency. The Parsons had the spa installed late last year, having chosen to put it in their conservatory. They tell us: “We open the doors to get that ‘outdoor’ feeling, but with all the benefits of not having to actually go outside, which is especially handy in the depths of winter!” When asked why they decided to invest in a hot tub, they explain: “Relaxation. When we realised we only used a bath for relaxing, we thought to ourselves ‘why not get a hot tub that we can enjoy together instead?’” So just how much difference to their lifestyle does the Parsons’ hot tub make? Well, they currently use theirs two to three times a week, which is only set to increase. “In fact it’s becoming part of our evening routine. We have a soak, before getting out and retiring to the sitting room, where we light the fire and o en a ottle o wine. t s so relaxing, and we sleep so well after!” Hot tubs and spas are also very easy to maintain. The Parsons explain: “It’s actually ite easy now that we e fig red o t the chemicals. he filters go in the dishwasher too, so it’s really straightforward.” Such ease of use is largely down to the service and advice provided by Jonny, Lucy and the OC Spas team. They are experts when it comes to getting the most out of your hot tub, with a pre and post sale service that ensures you reap all the benefits of your investment.

Indeed, although the Parsons didn’t buy it for hydrotherapy, they tell us how the hot tub has been absolutely fantastic for their aches and pains, especially the in-built massage lounger! If you’re considering investing in a hot tub and think it could be just what you need to capitalise on time spent at home, spas and hot tubs offer a whole host of benefits, both socially and in terms of health. Why not head to OC Spas’ showroom at Goonhavern Garden Centre and see for yourself?

THIS YEAR

Mr and Mrs S swapped their oil boiler for an Air Source Heat Pump and they couldn’t be happier.

ABOVE Bring your home into the 21st century with the help of an air-source heat pump

H

aving previously heated their Cornish home with oil, Mr and rs were eager to find a more cost-effective, friendlier way to heat their home. They tell us: “Our boiler was coming towards the end of its life and to change it we were told our oil tank would need to be moved and replaced. With what we were quoted to do this, we thought we should see if there were any better alternatives.” a ing searched online or more e cient heating alternatives, they soon came across GreenGenUK. The couple continue: “They’re a local company who offer free surveys, so we thought we had nothing to lose by getting them out, they didn’t pressure us but simply explained how the system works and the ario s enefits s ch as lower ills and Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) payments. e came away confident and excited to see their proposal.” GreenGen’s proposal broke down the capital costs of an air source installation, the running costs and the government subsidies available. With existing radiators already in place, air so rce co ld e retrofitted to the home with minimal changes to the existing setup, thereby reducing costs and disruption. A new technology compared with fossil fuel alternatives, air source heating extracts heat from the air and uses it to provide heating and hot water. he res lt more e cient,

friendlier way to heat a home. Up to 400% e cient, r and rs s air so rce system will reduce their home's heating bills by more than 30%. In addition to reduced bills, the homeowner now earns quarterly payments from the Renewable Heat Incentive. The RHI scheme was initiated to incentivise renewable heating installations. Homeowners installing eligible heat pumps earn RHI for seven years and annual payments can be as much as £1,600. “We decided to go ahead with the installation, and we couldn’t be happier,” explains Mrs S. “Our home is now kept at a lovely temperature and our heat pump didn’t cost much more than replacing our oil system. e e st had o r first arterly ayment thro gh e d recommend GreenGen and air source to anyone in a similar situation.” If you want to consider following Mr and Mrs S and switching to renewable heating then get in touch with the GreenGenUK team today and discuss your installation with the expert team.

Incorporate stone into your Cornish home for a beautiful, natural look that will stand the test of time.

O

ne thing many of us look for in a home, especially here in Cornwall, is how it re ects, com lements, even blends in with its natural surroundings. More and more, those embarking on home improvement projects are looking to natural materials, particularly stone, to give their home a look that not only suits its location, but that is robust enough to last for generations. And there’s something quite beautiful about the natural marbling of stone, particularly granite and quartz, when incorporated into our kitchens, living spaces and bathrooms. There is one fantastic Cornish business that understands all of this – Kernow Stone. Cornwall’s leading provider of natural stone, Kernow Stone’s parent company, Martin and Sons, was founded in 1909, and now sees the o rth and fi th generation o the Martin family working together towards the fabrication of the most beautiful and robust natural stone. So what can they do for you? With more than 20 years of experience in the industry and thousands of happy customers across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, Kernow Stone supply, manufacture and install granite and quartz worktops, as well as nat ral stone wall and oor tiles, house signs, slate sills and much more. We catch up with Tom Martin who tells us: “We now have trading partners all over the

world, including in Brazil, India, Spain and Italy, from whom we import natural stone. This means that we not only offer some of the finest stone rod cts on the market, t we make what may once have seemed a pipedream an affordable reality for anyone embarking on a home improvement project.” Recent investment in both the company workforce and machinery means that Kernow Stone is now able to serve more clients than ever before. Not only this, Tom continues: “The diversity of colours of granite now available is surprising, and it’s now more affordable than ever due to opening markets all around the world!” Kernow Stone works with an extensive list of Cornish builders, architects, kitchen companies, designers and joiners, making the dreams of homeowners across Cornwall a reality. To add a touch of nature to your home, whether it’s with new worktops, tiles or a st nning, nat ral stone oor, e s re to o into the Kernow Stone showroom and see what the friendly team of experts can do for you!

SCORRIER HOUSE & GARDENS With its sweeping staircase, Scorrier House’s Grand Hall provides a breathtaking theatre in which to get married. Or, on a hot summer’s day, why not tie the knot outside in the estate’s beautiful 10-acre garden? There’s no shortage of space at Scorrier and its sheer size exempts any need for a marquee. Instead, the Grand Hall can seat 120 and the Drawing Room is just perfect for your first dance. There’s also accommodation for up to 20 and, being just moments from the coast, you couldn’t ask for a better backdrop for those all-important photos. WWW.SCORRIERHOUSE.CO.UK

An exotic setting

to say ”I do”

Do you aspire to an occasion which is unique and intimate, a fairy tale wedding in magical surroundings? A sub-tropical garden with uninterrupted views of St Mawes bay towards St Anthony’s lighthouse, Lamorran Garden may just be the venue you’ve been looking for.

inspiration

Commemorate your loved ones’ special day with a beautiful piece of Cornish artwork. Mike Lacey’s wave surf art captures stunning ocean shots that will forever remind the happy couple of their Cornish wedding by the sea. The Cornish Heart image in particular would make a really romantic gift. Taken at sunrise it’s a one in a million shot of a perfect heart within the barrel of a wave. Or, if you’re looking for wedding favour inspiration then why not present your guests with a wave art coaster, so they can be reminded of your special day over a cup of coffee in the morning and be inspired to get out and explore the coast thanks to the inspirational images that are available. For more information call 01326 368369 or visit www.wavesgallery.co.uk

Situated on the Roseland peninsula, this Mediterranean garden is surrounded by the sea, with views out over the Lizard. Built in an Italianate style and planted in the style of the great gardens of the Italian Riviera, the intimate four-acre garden winds down the hillside to the sea, and is home to a vast array of palms, tree ferns and sub-tropical plants. Lamorran Gardens is perched on a south-facing hillside overlooking the sea, having been laid out to maximise its Mediterranean setting. The views here are staggering, in all directions. Your wedding will be set in the ‘Cupola’, with an uninterrupted view of the ocean and the lighthouse as a backdrop. Photo opportunities abound here too, whether on one of the many bridges spanning the streams, in the Summer House looking out to the Percuil river and the boats at anchor, or beside and beneath exotic foliage – the choice is yours! As part of the celebration, drinks and canapés will await you on the terrace afterwards, the perfect way to begin your reception. But don’t just take our word for it – head to Lamorran this spring and let the gardens speak for themselves! For more information call 01326 270800 or visit www.lamorrangardens.co.uk

Beachside bridals at Catch, Mawgan Porth atch yo r first s nset as r and rs on the beach, champagne in hand at Catch Seafood Bar & Grill. Design your wedding menu, from Cornish lobsters and oysters to West Country steaks, egan me es or e en attered fish and chips – you decide!

The upstairs Beach Pad is perfect for sleepy toddlers, showering off or for a few days’ ‘mini-moon’ before or after the big day.

You can choose to keep it intimate with best friends or erect a marquee; spend the a ternoon s rfing or laying each ro nders whilst Catch lights the barbecue and keeps the wine owing.

So what’s not to love? To see how Catch can make your wedding by the sea that extra bit special, be sure to give the team a call.

Not only is Catch incredibly versatile as a venue, recently married Charlotte Adams tells us: “It was also the best value venue we found, by far!”

ABOVE There’s something truly special about a Wild Tipi wedding

W

ild Tipi’s ethos is simple; to immerse you and your guests in nature, drawing on the breathtaking surrounds of Cornwall and adding touches of the countryside into everything they do. We catch up with company founders, Sam and Tim Moore. Impressively, their gorgeous, wooden-framed ti is can e config red to host arties or to 700 guests, whilst seamlessly blending into your chosen landscape. Sam tells us: “Our Tipis give you the freedom over how you imagine the event in terms of the setting and the space. From clifftop weddings with breathtaking views of the Atlantic to intimate woodland gatherings, our team can help you to bring your dream to life. We can be as involved as you wish; from the smallest detail, to the main event, we are also happy to share with you any number of our amazing local suppliers. Of course we can also just leave you to dream wild too!” So what makes a Wild Tipi wedding or party so special? Tim explains: “A Wild Tipi event takes guests on a sensory journey. From the crunch of feet on gravel as they approach the tipi, to the child-like sense of awe as they gaze up into the sparkling canopy overhead. he smoke dri ting la ily rom the fire it and the so nd o la ghter filling the air its all about creating a sense of magic and making memories that guests will treasure forever.”

Sam continues: “For many who book a Wild Tipi, sustainability is also a key consideration. All of our tipis are UK-made from sustainable pine and can be set up and taken down with little trace left behind. Nature is our driving force and we love helping guests to bring the outdoors in to their wedding or event. A great party will draw on its natural surrounds; taking inspiration from the stunning views or the delicate wild owers in the hedgerows. Touches like Fal River oyster shells as placename holders or locally-sourced garlands to decorate the tipis add touches of personality and natural beauty to an event.” The versatility of a Wild Tipi event means that every detail imagined can be brought to life; their massive Giant Hat Tipis can e config red in n mero s ways and they have a range of smaller tipis which make perfect guest accommodation, video booths or chill-out areas. So, if you’re planning a wedding or special event, why not add a touch of wild to the day? Be sure to contact the team and start planning the day you’ve been dreaming of.

Enys Gardens

Trevenna

Tucked away in the countryside between Falmouth and Truro, Enys Gardens – considered to be some of the oldest in the Duchy – make a unique wedding reception venue that’s perfect for a creative couple. The derelict yet enchanting manor house, located within the gardens, has capacity for 200 guests and is available to hire for wedding receptions and blessings throughout the year. With stunning views and gardens, Trevenna’s grounds provide some beautiful backdrops for the perfect wedding photos. Think wooden gates and country lanes, grand old trees and fragrant meadows. Fully licensed as an Exclusive Use Wedding Venue, you’ll have a choice of where to say your vows, from the stylish Threshing arn with nat ral stone walls and sleek modern fittings, to the open countryside beneath the team’s beautifully handmade wood and slate Arbour. the world

ommanding outstanding views across Cornwall’s mesmerising west coast, the Polurrian is in a remarkable clifftop position, perfectly situated for guests to make the most of this stunning location. The accommodation options there are now better than ever, with a selection of six stylish new luxury villas as well as comfortable and homely hotel rooms, many of which showcase sea views or the mature Cornish gardens. As a wedding venue, it takes some beating. Whereas in previous years brides and grooms have had to book the entire hotel on an exclusive basis for their wedding, now you'll also have the opportunity to book their new function room, without having to stay, making it more accessible to couples planning a smaller event. What’s more, non-exclusive weddings can take place 360 days of the year, and the function room enjoys some incredible views.

But that’s not all. Many dream of tying the knot outside, with the Atlantic ocean serving as the ultimate backdrop. So, with this in mind, the Polurrian is renovating its outdoor private patio, allowing couples to say ‘I do’ with stunning coastal views. The hotel team create bespoke wedding packages for every couple; nothing is prepackaged, so however you envisage your perfect day and whatever your budget, they are on hand and happy to help tailor your most special of days to you. So, if you’ve been dreaming of getting married by the sea, you’ll be hard pushed to find a etter coastal en e than the ol rrian. MAIN The Morgan, set against the backdrop of Mylor

Today we're hiring a Morgan two-seater with a Zetec 1.8 litre engine. Founded in 1909, Morgan Motor Company is very much a darling of the motor industry, and not just here in the UK. Indeed, the Morgan’s iconic design has a worldwide reputation, its magnificent cars still eing man act red today right here in Great Britain. The company’s ethos towards traditional craftsmanship remains unchanged and, as we’re shown around the car and given a crash co rse on its finer details and controls, it ickly ecomes a arent that we are about to experience something truly special. e take a ick tri and down the road to get to grips with the classic controls, before eing handed a selection o hand icked Cornish driving routes. After that, the car is ours. entati e at first the eel and control o the Morgan are somewhat alien compared to modern cars we soon realise that this fabulous automobile, in reality, is extremely easy to drive. And it’s clearly been maintained to a meticulous standard too, with the cl tch, rakes and accelerator res onding beautifully. It’s not long before I feel confident dri ing this most classic o ritish cars, as if I belong to the 1930s when this exce tional ehicle was first conce t alised. or o r first sto we head to ylor ar o r. ith sleek yachts gently rocking on the water and the timeless elegance of the Morgan arked on the ayside, it takes s ack to a scene that we’re certain belongs to a Bond film. e sto or a ite at ylor a , t it doesn’t satisfy our appetite for what the Morgan still has to offer so we hit the road again, this time or a y y thro gh almo th. s yo can imagine the organ garners looks from everybody we pass, young and old, each admiring its sleek lines and archety ally British design.

Driving around ornwall eneath l e skies is leasant in any ehicle, t in a classic car like the organ, it’s truly an experience. And this is precisely what erranwell s lassic ar ire ser ice is all about, giving motoring enthusiasts the chance to enjoy these iconic cars the way they were meant to be enjoyed. Navigating the Cornish coast and countryside, in a car so far removed from the modern world of motoring, is an experience without parallel. And it’s something that I, for one, could quite happily get used to. So, with a selection of Morgans and MGs to choose rom, s er rates or hire and a hand icked selection o ro tes to make the most o yo r rental i yo re a lo er o classic cars or yo know someone who is, wo ld not hesitate to recommend contacting Perranwell Garage.

Located across the Camel Estuary from Ainsworth’s four other business in Padstow, The Mariners is currently closed for its annual break and is set to re-open in early spring with Paul Ainsworth at the helm. Paul comments: “Emma and I are thrilled to be taking over The Mariners in partnership with Sharp’s Brewery. When the opportunity arose, we knew straight away that we had to take it. 2019 will very much be the ‘discovery phase’ – learning what works and what doesn’t, with a refurbishment planned for 2020.” For more information visit www.sharpsbrewery.co.uk or www.paul-ainsworth.co.uk

TOP Milly & Martha are experts in the holiday letting industry

illy & Martha Holiday Lettings Consultants have many years of expertise in the lettings, tourism and commercial property market. Running a highly successful holiday lettings business since 2012 helped hone their skills. Since, their lettings business has evolved to become Milly & Martha Holiday Lettings Consultancy, having found that more and more property owners need help with setting up, marketing, photographing and creating effective listings for their holiday homes. Milly tells us: “Having been in the business a long time, we know what standards holidaymakers expect. We also know what attracts them and how to market properties to them effectively. Navigating lettings websites and creating property page listings can be, at best, confusing and, at worst, time consuming and ineffective. Our services make a holiday letting stand out online, in front of the right people to maximise booking potential.” So, what services can they offer? Firstly, they can provide a professionally written rental listing for holiday websites such as Airbnb, Tripadvisor and HomeAway, helping your property stand out and navigating the set up process so that you don’t have to.

Knowing how to price your property is also key. Fortunately, Milly & Martha can provide weekly or short break pricing schedules with advice on expected occupancy rates. One thing that really helps secure bookings is helping maximise your guests’ experience. To help, Milly & Martha create property descriptions and area guides, telling guests all about your property and the area with all the key information laid out succinctly and professionally. Finally, as if all that wasn’t enough, the all-important task of guest information packs can be taken off your plate too. This impressive consultancy will produce these for you with important property information, emergency contact details and content-rich area guides, again enhancing your guests’ experience. So, whether you’re looking for just one or two of these services or a complete package, Milly & Martha can take care of everything you need to get your holiday let up, running and making money. riendly, e cient and most importantly, affordable, why not let this professional Cornish business make your investment stand out from the crowd?

| ADVICE

ARE YOU READY TO INVEST? Low interest rates on cash savings since the financial crisis have meant that many savers have turned to the markets in the hope of achieving a better return.

A

lthough investing means taking risks with your money, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing – more risk could mean better returns. t i yo re going to in est, yo sho ld e prepared for the fact that you could lose some, or even all, of your savings. If you’re looking to grow your money over many years – perhaps to fund a dream purchase or help you in retirement – cash might not be the right option. If you are able to accept some level of risk, investing in the markets through a Stocks and Shares ISA might offer you exposure to higher returns than cash alone can deliver. Here are just some reasons to open a Stocks and Shares ISA. n tion c n be the ene of c sh s vin s One of the appeals of cash savings is that you can access them when you want. Your interest is also generally fixed, so their value won’t swing up and down like share prices can. It’s sensible to keep enough cash to cover any short-term needs, but keeping too much of your savings in cash can carry a cost. However, when the price of goods and ser ices, or in ation, is rising aster than the rate of interest you receive on, say, your cash savings in a UK bank or building society, the ‘real’ value of the amount is eroded which could leave you worse off. y acce ting some le el o risk and investing your money in assets like company shares, bonds and property, you could potentially achieve higher returns than cash alone can offer.

Protect your investments from tax The beauty of investing through an ISA is that any income you receive, and any capital gains from a rise in value of your investments, will be free from personal taxation, irrespective of any other earnings you have. It’s important to remember that ISA tax rules may change in the future. The tax advantages of investing through an ISA will also depend on your personal circumstances.

Penzance office The Regent, Chapel Street, Penzance TR18 4AE 01736 366550

The value of investments and the income they produce can fall as well as rise, you may get back less than you invested.

It might be easier than you think You can choose to invest a lump sum or set a reg lar sa ings lan that fits yo r circumstances and goals. There are a number of different approaches to investing, each with their own risk and ret rn rofiles. It’s important to consider obtaining ro essional financial ad ice to hel yo establish an investment approach that is right for you. Cornwall Hospice Care announces its next cycle challenge after the breathtaking success of 2017’s Mount to Mont Challenge.

SECURE YOUR PLACE To find out more and register your interest, give Oli a call direct on 01726 66868 (option 3).

ornish charity Cornwall Hospice Care is offering an exclusive opportunity to join a team of 50 cyclists as they ride from the river Camel to Nantes in northwest France. There are only a few spaces left for the October e ent that will start rom the magnificent Prideaux Place in Padstow, and end at the Chateau des duc de Bretagne. The Chateau is the jewel at the heart of Nantes. Enclosed by fortress walls and surrounded by its own moat, it’s imposing yet welcoming. It’s where Cornwall Hospice Care’s cyclists will celebrate the end of what promises to be an amazing adventure, when they ride into the walled courtyard four days after leaving Cornwall. The 280 mile route explores the beauty of Cornwall on day one, before an overnight ferry crossing to France where the challenge features much of the famous La Vélodyssée, the Atlantic cycling route, as the team head south. Oli Hoare is the charity’s Head of Fundraising. He tells us: “This bespoke adventure follows on from our hugely successful Mount to Mont cycle in 2017, and

will provide our cyclists with fantastic views over Padstow before we head down and through the town and out across the Camel Trail, eventually reaching France and the finish line. “Last year,” Oli continues, “our team raised a breathtaking £111,500 to help fund the care we provide to terminally ill patients and their families. But we also experienced a joint adventure that none of us will ever forget. It’s why I’m riding again and why I hope others will join me for this remarkable and truly unique experience.” o find o t more and to register yo r interest, be sure to visit the charity’s website or give Oli a call. You can also watch a wonderful film on the we site, made d ring the o nt to Mont Challenge and featuring many of those who rode for the charity in 2017 – you’re sure to be inspired by their stories!
