Made for dogs,

designed for you We’re a nation of dog-lovers and when it comes to going out, we’d much prefer to do it with our furry friends by our side. Trips to the pub, riverside picnics or park-bench coffee breaks; if we can, we’ll take them. But we can’t guarantee they won’t dash across to another family’s picnic and sna e their sandwiches This is where the Tetherlead comes into its own. The luxurious leather lead allows you to safely and securely attach your dog to just about anything. The family behind the brand wanted to create products that are unique but will also stand the test of time, using the finest Italian leather and solid brass fittings, all handmade in ngland. The British designers have created two carefully considered designs. The ‘Oxford’ has brass eyelets that run the length of the lead, the slimline design making the lead perfect for popping in a pocket, whereas the ‘Woodstock’ has brass rings for a more bold and

eye-catching design. Both the eyelets and the rings can be used to adjust the length of the lead and to tether your dog by unclipping the handle, wrapping it around an object and attaching the clip to the eyelet or ring at your desired length. The Tetherleads team didn’t stop there, they have also produced a matching range of leather collars and slip collars using the same high quality, durable materials. To see the beautiful collection for yourself, be sure to visit the website. ith UK staycations on the rise and the demand for dog-friendly accommodation following that trend, we in Cornwall have noticed an upsurge in luxury hotels opening their doors to our furry friends. Indeed, with castle-like Victorian architecture, spacious, contemporary interiors, a fantastic seafront location and award-winning food, the Falmouth Hotel has certainly earned its reputation as one of, if not the, finest hotel in the area. little bit of history when it was first established more than 150 years ago, the hotel was an oasis for the English gentry, attracting famous faces over the decades including Beatrix Potter, who stayed in 1892. “I have come a very long way in a puff-puff,” she wrote, “to a place in Cornwall,

DOGS GO

free!

That’s right, between October and April 2022, dogs are welcome at Kilminorth Cottages at no extra cost. That ought to set their tails wagging.

T

he ethos at Kilminorth Cottages is very much centred on ‘everyone welcome’ – something of a motto for owner Jayne and the team. Occupying 32 acres of Cornish countryside, with all properties having been lovingly renovated to offer the perfect blend of contemporary luxury and easy, open-plan living, it’s something of a sanctuary for weary guests hoping to escape the stresses of daily life. It’s also a fabulous place for dogs to sniff, bound and roll their way around the countryside, with a beautiful mix of landscaped and large, formal gardens, meadows, rivers and woodland, not to mention the fact that it lies just moments from the South West Coast Path. Bodmin Moor is mere moments away as well, which itself is an adventurer’s paradise with seemingly endless miles of moorland on which to play fetch. If you feel like relinquishing the car keys for the duration of your stay, no problem – as well as the abundance of dog friendly pubs in the area, you’ll also find dog friendly taxis available, so no need to worry about being the designated driver. Back to the resort and Kilminorth has its own dedicated wal ing fields, ideal for letting them off the lead and throwing a ball.

For little ones on two legs, there are plenty of facilities on site to keep them entertained, including a tennis court and a heated outdoor pool – especially nice to know on days where you don’t fancy stepping far from the comforts of your cottage. In short, ilminorth redefines the term family holiday’, welcoming both two and four-legged members of your clan with open arms, to relax and enjoy your surroundings. So, if you’ve been contemplating an autumn or winter break with your furry friend but have yet to find the perfect base for your stay, with Kilminorth welcoming dogs for free between October this year and April 2022, you need not look any further! DOGS

OF THE BEST DOG-FRIENDLY PLACES TO EAT

Cornwall has an abundance of dog-friendly restaurants just waiting to welcome you and your furry friends.

I

t's perhaps unsurprising that foodies choose the autumn and winter months to make their annual pilgrimage to Cornwall. Crops are being harvested in abundance; different seafood is being landed to that of the warmer months, and there's nothing quite like the crisp and cool sea air to drum up a hearty appetite. For those travelling with their canine companions, finding a place to rest weary feet and paws over dinner is of the utmost importance. To help, we ve chosen five of our favourites that you can simply add to your holiday itinerary. You're welcome!

1

GREENS OF PADSTOW

Greens is a place where tranquillity is served with simple, wholesome food, and relaxation is high on the specials board. With doggy companions welcome to join you on the terrace for an al fresco bite, why not pay them a visit after an adventure to one of the many local beaches and walks in the area? This modern sanctuary for lovers of fine food, nature and panoramic vistas, with the bonus of a mini-golf course in a secret garden, isn’t one to be missed. So, head on in for a spot of breakfast or lunch and make sure to head to the website to book for dinner!

2

THE OLD QUAY INN If you’re on the hunt for a gastro pub menu that you can enjoy as your furry friend curls up beneath the table, look no further than The Old Quay Inn. Located at the head of Restronguet Creek in Devoran, adjacent to the coast-to-coast cycle and walking trail and with its own lush beer garden and outside benches overlooking the water, it's the perfect place to end a day’s exploring. Taking a new meaning to ‘let sleeping dogs lie’, at The Old Quay Inn, tired hounds can rest their head while their owners can indulge in fresh, honest, top-notch food, a fabulous wine list and real ale from local brewers.

DOLLAR COVE Just a short spell outside of the charming little village of Gunwalloe, and a two-minute walk from the National Trust carpark, sits Dollar Cove. Nestled between the cliffs, this beach offers smooth pebbles and sandy stretches leading down to the water, and low tide reveals a collection of busy rockpools, home to many a Cornish creature. The surrounding cliffs provide a grassy expanse, perfect for laying down a picnic blanket and taking in the remarkable view of the neighbouring coastline. For a bite to eat, just head up the road and you can find the Halzephron Inn (halzephron-inn. co.uk), ready to welcome your furry friend with a treat at the bar, and make sure to catch the sunset!

TREYARNON BAY With Constantine Bay just around the point, this hidden gem sits further back into the headland in its own sheltered piece of paradise, boasting a generous stretch of soft, pale sand and shallow clear waters, just made for bounding and playing in the fresh, salty sea. At low tide, blissfully blue tidal pools are exposed, inviting humans and salty sea dogs to take a dip in nature’s bath tub, a great way to cool down on warmer days. With the sand around the point revealed you can even take a jaunt over to Constantine Bay, which is also dog friendly all year round, but don’t get cut off by the tide!

BEDRUTHAN STEPS BEACH Also known as ‘Carnewas’, this gorgeous beach, located on the north coast between Padstow and Newquay, is home to an ancient local legend. It is said that the outcrops you’ll find scattered across this beach were laid down by a giant called Bedruthan to use as stepping stones for him to leap across at high tide. At low tide these rocky formations are exposed, and make for a perfect playground for an excitable pooch and owner alike to explore.

COVERACK COVE On the sheltered, eastern side of the Lizard peninsula, and on the doorstep of the sleepy harbour town of Coverack, lies the stunning Coverack Cove. The beach itself is hidden at high tide, but offers a romantic view from the waterside walk above, and why not explore the village and harbour? At low tide, the sea surrenders a at arc of sand leading down to cool, green waters just begging for toes and paws to be dipped. This treasured beach is home to the traditional Christmas day swim, a charity event dating back 50 years for brave locals, visitors and pups alike!

GWYNVER BEACH On a clear day, you might be lucky enough to spot the Isles of Scilly from the white sands of Gwynver beach. Also known as ‘Gwenver beach’, the area embodies another bit of Cornish legend, with the name deriving from Gwynevere of the Arthurian Legend, a great visit for story lovers! This is one for the adventurous pups among you, as the beach can only be accessed via the South West Coast Path, or a ten-minute walk from the car park on the cliff, which means this hidden gem is a little quieter than many others. You may even get it to yourself!

DOGS

THE ULTI-MUTT

dog walk

FOR ALL YOUR DOG-WALKING ACCESSORIES

From collars to coats, treat bags to slings, dog washers to drying mats, Slickers Doghouse has an accessory for every eventuality.

Being prepared for your dog walk means both you and your pooch will get the most out of your time together in the great outdoors.

Y

our daily dog walk should be a relaxing and enjoyable for both of you. This is a great bonding opportunity between you and your dog as well as being the ideal time for your pooch to meet and greet some new furry friends. With the help of Slickers Doghouse, Cornwall’s premier canine store, here are our top three accessories that will take your dog walk to the next level. Under control It’s good practice to always ask your dog to sit before you attach the leash to his collar. You may have to be patient, but it’s a great self-control exercise that teaches your dog that good things come when he is calm. For owner comfort the Zero Shock Dog lead combines ultimate comfort and control. If you prefer a harness, then Ezydog’s range are strong and durable. Scooping the poop Being a responsible dog owner means picking up that poop. With sustainability in mind, Beco’s poo bags are made from eco-friendly and compostable materials, meaning that they break down quickly. Add a Beco Poop Pocket, which attaches to your lead and you’ll never be caught short. If your walk takes you off the beaten track, then a Dickie Bag makes transportation secure and odour free until the next dog bin.

Hydration station Always remember to take your dog a drink, especially on warm days. A dog water bottle, such as the stainless-steel Pet Water Bottle, releases just enough water as your dog licks for one sip at a time. If your pooch prefers to drink from a bowl, or is even peckish after a long ramble, then Drive’s compactable water and food bowls provide refreshment on the go.
