EMILY HOBHOUSE, 1913
Leave behind the present and step into the late 19th to early 20th century. Here an untold chapter of UK history is brought to life through installations, animation, film, virtual reality, décor, historical photos, and artefacts.
This is the story of Emily Hobhouse; an inspirational woman from Cornwall who challenged the social norms of the Victorian era and changed the lives of thousands of women and children during the Anglo-Boer War. A tale of incredible bravery, determination, and impact, we shine the light on how a woman from a small Cornish village shaped events a world away.
Step inside the Victorian Rectory, Emily’s childhood home, restored by experts in painstaking detail, for a flavour of her life as a 15-year-old in 1875. Here, a window into the past is opened, to reveal the everyday life of the Hobhouse family.
In the War Rooms history blends with cutting-edge technology, to create a fascinating immersive experience. This unique, sensory journey shares the resolve and courage of Emily and the women and children before, during and after the Anglo-Boer War.
We warmly invite you to dine in our beautiful, light-filled Restaurant, offering a taste of history on every plate, which serves South African heritage dishes from the 19th century. This extraordinary experience inspires optimism and hope, sparking curiosity and conversation.

Spring is certainly in the air here in Cornwall and it has been nothing short of glorious. We have been treated to calm seas, warm sunshine and some incredible sunsets – just the lift we needed after the winter months. This issue, our thoughts turn to the world of art and the iconic building that is Tate St Ives. Its unmistakable white facade looks out over the sunbathers and surfers on Porthmeor beach, housing a veritable treasure of works within. Alongside its regular collections, it runs a programme of events and projects developed for and with the town of St Ives. It also manages the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden and is the only Tate gallery to have a dedicated Artist Residency programme. Jamie Crocker has been looking at its latest project, the restoration and reopening of the historic Palais de Danse, alongside its latest landmark exhibition Ithell Colquhoun: Between Worlds; read more from page 15
This issue, we are delighted to bring you our dedicated art section, where we shine a light on some of Cornwall’s most exciting artistic talent. Emily Penfold’s original pencil drawings of magical sea creatures (page 28) appear almost lifelike in their intricacy. Also inspired by the ocean, Susan Fowler (page 27) takes a different approach using textiles, pressed flowers and mixed media to create contemporary pieces that evoke layers of meaning. If you’re visiting Porthleven this spring, I would highly recommend a visit to Customs House Gallery (page 25) as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Owners John and Louise, expertly and sympathetically curate a space that features fine art, textiles, jewellery, sculpture and glass in a wonderful harbourside setting.
If that wasn’t enough, we are thrilled to bring you our inaugural Cornwall Living Home & Interiors supplement. With so many incredible businesses across the Duchy dedicated to turning your house into a home, we wanted to showcase some of our favourites. From windows and doors and driveways and balconies, to kitchens and bathrooms and sustainable solutions, we’ve got you covered from page 31.
And finally, do you fancy the chance of winning a Cornish stay worth over £650? Head over to our competitions on page 74, where you could be in with a chance of winning this and a host of other prizes!
...happy reading!

Help it live on for all, for now, forever.
Luke Tripconey’s Mum Lisa was cared for at St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle two years ago. He says it’s the care she would have wanted at the end of her life; “The hospice was far less chaotic than a hospital. The staff were great and we had time. We had a film day with mum in her expanding ‘cuddle bed’ and the dog could come in too. It meant a lot to mum to have the people she wanted around her and to spend time with us all.”
An increase in demand will place unprecedented pressure on the charity’s two hospices – Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell and St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle, that already rely on funding almost entirely provided by the community of Cornwall.
Paul Brinsley, Chief Executive of Cornish healthcare charity Cornwall Hospice Care shared; “Gifts in Wills already play a pivotal role in the funding of Cornwall Hospice Care. In the last financial year (2023/24) alone they provided £2.7million, that’s 40% of the money needed to fund our annual care costs of £6.9million.
“Currently two in five of our patients are cared for thanks to legacies, they form a vital bedrock of funding that ensures our today and hopefully, our tomorrow.
“Our message is more important than ever; when you’ve remembered those close to you, please consider leaving our charity a gift in your Will so we can continue the vision of our founder who built Cornwall’s first hospice 45 years ago.”

Katie Warren, of Fixer Property & Management, reflects upon how being sustainable means we should all be working to keep our holiday homes busy all year round and not just for the peak weeks and school holidays. This means local people are in long term employment, independent businesses and restaurants can stay open in colder months, which in turn feeds the farming and fishing industries in Cornwall.
“As someone who has a large proportion of managed properties in Falmouth, I know that most rentals achieve over 40 weeks booked per annum. So, what does Falmouth have that perhaps other towns could look at?”
Richard Gates, Town Manager of Falmouth Town Council says, “Falmouth has such a mix of diverse businesses… and a range of SME’s across the town. It is very much a working town throughout the year, which helps the economy, and it has just as many challenges as any other town, but there is a strong sense of community and energy to see the town develop.”
Both Experience West Cornwall (Penzance) and Experience Newquay are tourism funded schemes working to make a yearround, resilient and robust economy which will in turn help the local community to keep thriving.
Another idea to promote local travel and keep the community working together is for owners and letting agencies to consider a discount for locals to stay at properties out of season for short breaks. “I am sure someone from Bude would love to explore Sennen over a weekend and keep their money in the county!”

Cornwall residents can get unlimited year-round entry to Tate St Ives and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. The annual pass costs just £10.
Tate St Ives sits on the threshold of past and future, the weight of art history pressing against its white-walled galleries even as it gestures towards new horizons. Two major developments in 2025 reinforce this duality: a landmark exhibition on Ithell Colquhoun, the most esoteric of British surrealists, and the long-awaited restoration of the Palais de Danse, once the creative crucible of Barbara Hepworth. These twin stories are not mere coincidences but signals of a deeper resonance – a reminder that St Ives has always been a place where art, landscape and the intangible currents of the mystical and the modern converge.
For much of her life, Ithell Colquhoun stood at the fringes of British surrealism, a sorceress among painters, a painter among occultists. The upcoming exhibition, the largest ever staged of her work, pulls her from the margins and places her at the centre, unveiling a body of art that pulses with the strangeness of dream logic and the ancient symbols of forgotten rites.
With over 200 works on display, the exhibition is a passage through Colquhoun’s shifting identities: student of the Slade, surrealist provocateur, practitioner of automatic techniques, and ultimately, a seeker whose paintings became spellbooks of colour and form. Early pieces such as Judith Showing the Head of Holofernes (1929)
reveal her fascination with the subversion of myth, reworking biblical narratives through an occultist lens. Nearby, her designs for The Bird of Hermes hint at a mind already alive to the coded languages of alchemy and transformation.
The centrepiece of the exhibition, however, lies in the works of the late 1930s and 1940s, when Colquhoun fully embraced Surrealism’s methods and possibilities. Scylla (méditerranée) (1938), a painting in which the female body dissolves into rock and water, exemplifies the double-image technique that so fascinated her. Elsewhere, Bonsoir (1939), an unmade surrealist film, is presented through an intricate storyboard, its sequences revealing an eye attuned to cinema’s capacity for dreamlike juxtaposition.
Yet Colquhoun was never content to remain within Surrealism’s confines. In the 1940s, she encountered the automatic techniques of Gordon Onslow Ford and Roberto Matta, leading to an artistic shift that embraced chance, fluidity and an unmediated connection to subconscious forces. The exhibition presents key works from this period, including Gorgon (1946) and Attributes of the Moon (1947), their swirling forms generated through decalcomania, a process in which paint is pressed between two surfaces to create spontaneous, otherworldly shapes. These are accompanied by their original transfer papers – relics of a process that sought to strip the artist’s hand from the act of creation.

By the late 1940s, Colquhoun’s practice had fused entirely with her esoteric pursuits. She immersed herself in alchemy, Kabbalah and Druidic traditions, seeking to encode her understanding of the universe into intricate compositions. Her Diagrams of Love series (1940–42) merges male and female forms in a kabbalistic union, while later works evoke landscapes as portals – thin places where the physical world brushes against the unseen. Cornwall, with its standing stones and granite outcrops, became Colquhoun’s final sanctuary. She settled in Lamorna, a place whose prehistoric echoes found their way into her canvases. The exhibition’s final rooms bring together her visionary depictions of sacred sites, including Dance of the Nine Opals (1942), a work that transforms a stone circle into a whirling mandala of energy. The closing section presents her late experiments with enamel and her selfdesigned ‘Taro’ deck, distillations of a life spent navigating the spaces between art and magic. As Colquhoun’s visions take shape within Tate St Ives, another kind of transformation is taking place just beyond its walls. The Palais de Danse, a landmark St Ives building closed to the public for 65 years, is set to be reborn. Thanks to a £2.8 million grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Palais will reopen as a cultural hub, reconnecting St Ives to a chapter of its artistic past that has remained hidden for decades.
Built in 1911 as St Ives’s first cinema, the Palais de Danse evolved into a dance hall before, in 1961, it became the second studio of Barbara Hepworth. It was here, amid its high ceilings and wooden floors, that she sculpted Single Form (1961–64), a monumental work commissioned for the United Nations. The Palais was more than just a workspace; it was a site of ambition, a space where Hepworth wrestled with the monumental, both in material and in vision.
The restoration project will return the building to public life, preserving its historic features while reimagining its purpose. The lower workshop, still marked by the grid Hepworth used to map out Single Form, will be restored as an immersive experience, allowing visitors to step into the sculptor’s world. Upstairs, the 24-metre dance hall will once again welcome movement – this time in the form of performances, screenings and community gatherings. Even the yard, long sealed off, will open to the public, offering a space for workshops and hands-on creativity.
Anne Barlow, Director of Tate St Ives, sees the project as both a tribute and a revival: “This brings us closer to realising our vision for the Palais as a living heritage site, one that honours Hepworth’s legacy while engaging directly with the people of St Ives.”

The significance of the Palais extends beyond its walls. It speaks to the broader story of St Ives, where art and life practice their dance together. Hepworth, like Colquhoun, was drawn to Cornwall’s elemental power, to the way light and land conspire to shape artistic imagination. That their legacies should intertwine once more in 2025 – Colquhoun’s retrospective unfolding as Hepworth’s studio reopens – feels not just fitting, but inevitable.
Tate St Ives has long been a guardian of artistic currents, attuned to the echoes of its surroundings. The Colquhoun exhibition and the Palais restoration are not simply acts of preservation or celebration; they are statements of intent. They affirm that art in St Ives is not a relic of the past, but a force that continues to shape and be shaped by this place.
Colquhoun saw Cornwall as a landscape alive with hidden energies. Hepworth saw it as a place where form could be honed and clarified. Between them, they encapsulate the two great impulses of St Ives art: the mystical and the material, the vision and the craft. As 2025 unfolds, their legacies will stand side by side once more, inviting us to step into their worlds and, perhaps, to see anew.

Porthleven’s Customs House Gallery marks its 30th anniversary this year – a milestone that speaks to its enduring appeal.
Stroll along Harbour Road, out from the centre of this little Cornish fishing village, and you’ll eventually come to an oasis of calm. A place that celebrates the abundant talent found in this part of the world.
Established in 1995 by Bob Hood, the gallery has long been a cornerstone of Porthleven’s artistic scene. Today, under the stewardship of John and Louise Winterton, it continues to uphold its original ethos: to provide a thoughtfully curated space where fine art, textiles, jewellery, sculpture and glass are presented in harmony.
Walk through its doors, and you’ll immediately feel removed from the hubbub outside – free to appreciate the work before you without distraction. The pieces on display, carefully chosen by John and Louise, maintain a synergy that reflects their skill in bringing together a diverse array of artists under one roof.
The gallery’s history is interwoven with a thread of artistic continuity. After Bob Hood’s tenure, local artist Heather Howe took the helm, and although she eventually passed the baton 12 years ago to focus on her own painting, she still exhibits here. Since then, John and Louise have built upon this legacy, ensuring the gallery remains a welcoming space where both emerging and established artists can thrive. Their philosophy is simple but steadfast: to present high-quality, original art in a friendly and accessible environment. “We feel strongly
that each artist we represent should always have work on display, rather than being hidden in a cupboard for months on end between exhibitions,” says Louise. “So, our walls and plinths are aesthetically curated to offer the best possible opportunity for our artists to have their works seen. We consciously steer away from presenting ourselves as an intimidating space.”
Though the gallery’s coastal setting might suggest a dominance of seascapes, John and Louise have resisted such dictates. While maritime themes are present, the collection extends to landscapes and still life, the latter particularly popular of late. Across all these works, a consistent connection remains: an emphasis on originality, quality and a deep respect for the artists who make this gallery what it is.
The gallery also offers a bespoke framing service by appointment. Email framing@ thecustomshousegallery.co.uk for further info or to make an appointment.

“In all my work I try to re-purpose as much as possible, from fibreglass offcuts from surfboards to ghost fishing nets, which I then use to create texture. By re-using this waste it not only helps other businesses to be more sustainable, it also creates some incredible texture for me in my paintings”

CONTEMPORARY BRITISH ARTIST
An artist travelling and capturing Cornwall’s wild and bustling coastal areas, Martin John Fowler can typically be found immersing himself in the elements to capture his works. Born and brought up in the mining towns of South Yorkshire, Martin has spent much of his time in Cornwall whenever possible over the past twenty years and as a result, his rich and vivid pieces have seen him gain significant recognition amongst Cornwall’s artistic communities.
You can find Martin John Fowler’s work at selected Cornish galleries and the Customs House Gallery, Porthleven.
Discovering the work of Susan Fowler; one of the country’s leading contemporary textile, pressed flower and mixed media artists.
Susan Fowler wasn’t always an artist. Whilst practising as a commercial property lawyer, she contracted meningitis which left her with a head injury and epilepsy. Uniquely, this was to be the catalyst for the start of her career as a self-taught artist. “I started to press flowers as therapy during my recovery,” says Susan. “The epilepsy also triggered an acute awareness of light, colour and texture which has now become a prominent feature of my work.” Susan’s specialism is pressed flora and seaweed, combined with textiles and mixed media. Flora is picked from her own Cornish garden or sourced from local suppliers, with windswept local seaweed foraged from Cornish shores. These are laid on luxurious silks and satins with light-catching mixed media that includes precious stones, pearls, fishing net and shells from local fishermen. “I always buy my fabric in person, whether that be in the UK or on my travels through Cyprus and Spain,” Susan explains.
Susan’s influences come from the sea, skies, water currents, sunsets, sunrises and the intricate shapes of tree branches and bark. “I’m inspired by Cornwall's coastline where there is always a place to find calm and quiet solitude, whilst at the same time being surrounded by the most powerful movements in nature.
The sea, skies, winds and life itself are always moving, changing and evolving,” adds Susan. “This feeds into my artwork, which is evocative of Cornwall’s everchanging mood, heart and soul – a place where dreams are made and creativity comes to life.”
Never one to rest on her laurels, Susan has exciting plans for the year ahead. She will be holding a solo exhibition and fundraiser for the MND Association on September 20th 2025 at Tregenna Castle, St Ives. “This ticketed event, which includes a delicious meal, will be an evening where people can spend time looking at my work and learning more about what I do. I will also be busy attending other fairs, exhibitions and book signings throughout the year as well as spending time in my home studio to work on new original artwork, where I’ll be experimenting with unique fabrics, more mixed media and also expanding my use of colour.” Latest artwork and details of events and signings can be found on Susan’s new gallery website.

Spring is a season of renewal, and there’s no better time to breathe fresh life into your wardrobe.
ByVictoriaClark champions a thoughtful approach, one that sidesteps the pressure of grand resolutions in favour of small, achievable steps. Five unworn pieces in a year? Pass them on. A winter coat hibernating past its season? Store it away. The humble knicker drawer – often overlooked –deserves attention too, ensuring essentials are in check while surplus finds purpose elsewhere. Even the odd-sock graveyard can be laid to rest, with recycling schemes turning fabric into something useful once more. A well-curated wardrobe isn’t about excess but about clarity, comfort and confidence. With careful curation, March

Oltco Cornwall, contributes to recycling the equivalent of 800 million plastic straws across the UK.
Oltco, the leading sustainable resinbound driveway specialist, has played its part in recycling the equivalent of 800 million plastic straws using its world-first sustainable resinbound solution, Recycle Bound.
Launched in 2019 as a unique solution to help tackle the issue of plastic waste littering the globe, Oltco’s Recycle Bound solution has recycled the equivalent of over 800 million plastic straws. Today, it is being used not only on private driveways up and down the UK but also at some of the country's leading hotels and attractions.
Recycle Bound is made utilising waste plastic (straws, plastic drink bottles and plastic food packaging) from a plastic recycling point, with each square metre consisting of the equivalent of 3,000 plastic straws. Therefore, if Recycle Bound was laid on a standard 70 square metre drive, the equivalent of 210,000 plastic straws would be recycled in the process.
Recycle Bound has achieved recognition from multiple awards including ‘Product of the Year’ award at the Cornwall Business Awards, runner-up for ‘Recycled Product of the Year’ in the National Recycling Awards and ‘Sustainability Warrior’ at the British Franchise Association, an award category that was created specifically for Oltco to recognise its sustainability achievements.
Recycle Bound has been installed at various leading visitor attractions across the UK including the Eden Project, National Trust Sheffield Park & Garden, Bodmin Jail Hotel and the location of the G7 Summit, Carbis Bay Hotel, Blackpool Sea Life Centre and RHS Harlow Carr. To date, Oltco has recycled the equivalent of 1.7 million plastic straws in the resin pathways at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
Tom Stringer, Co-Director and Founder, comments: “We launched Recycle Bound in 2019 and now, four years later, we have recycled the equivalent of 800 million plastic straws which is incredible. It is so exciting and rewarding to see so many of our customers, both domestic and commercial, opting for Recycle Bound.”
Johnny Pearce, Co-Director and Founder also added: “Hitting 800 million plastic straws after four years is a huge milestone and one that we are incredibly proud of. We won’t be stopping here as the number of plastic straws that are recycled in our Recycle Bound installations increases every day. Here’s to the next milestone!”

Want to refresh your shower space but don’t know where to start?
With so many styles and options to choose from, it can be hard to know what will work best in your room. Here, Keely, Designer from Ripples Truro, talks through the top things to consider when designing a shower space.
Smart storage
If space is tight, concealed fittings are a great choice. By hiding pipes within the wall cavity, they create a sleek finish and minimise the risk of bumping into controls. Built-in alcoves provide additional storage for shower products while maximising floor space. These recesses can also become a design feature – add lighting or contrasting tiles for extra personality. While they cost more than a shower basket or caddy, they offer a high-end, hotel-inspired finish. If space allows, consider an in-built shower bench. Increasingly popular in multigenerational homes, a bench provides an easy-to-reach storage spot and a useful perch for children, older adults, or those looking to future-proof their home.
Choosing the right glass
Shower glass comes in many styles, so consider whether you want a full enclosure or a shower screen for a more open feel. If opting for an enclosure, think about the best shape –pentagonal for a corner, or three-sided if space allows. Glass styles range from Crittall-style to
fluted and the emerging trend of etched glass. Small details make a difference, too. If your taps and shower fittings are coloured or have a special finish, match hinges and handles for a cohesive look. An easy-clean coating is a worthwhile investment, reducing limescale build-up and making maintenance effortless.
Shower brassware sees daily use, so quality is essential. The last thing you want is a concealed fixture failing after installation, leading to costly repairs. Investing in durable fittings ensures longevity. With finishes from rose gold to ‘living finish,’ which develops a patina over time, there’s something to suit every bathroom style.
eco
Sustainability in bathrooms has never been more relevant, especially with rising household costs. A flow restrictor shower head reduces water usage without compromising performance. Alternatively, aerated shower technology enriches water with air droplets, creating a luxurious yet water-efficient showering experience.

With spring in sight, the experts at Plants of Cornwall give us their top tips for injecting some lime-green brilliance into our gardens.
In the world of gardening, where diversity and resilience are highly prized, the Plants of Cornwall team have some expert ideas to help us add some zesty colours to our outdoor spaces. To start with, they recommend Euphorbia as a botanical standout. This plant thrives in different climates and is suitable for various garden settings, from borders to containers and even as striking standalone focal points. Euphorbia Wulfenii produces round heads of lime green flowers in early spring. Accompanying Euphorbia with Carex oshimensis Everillo, a grassy companion with arching lime-green foliage, add both colour and texture to your garden.
The Phormium Yellow Wave, a New Zealand flax, introduces waves of vibrant yellow and green-striped leaves, ensuring that your garden is a visual delight.
Moving into late spring and summer, Hydrangea paniculata Limelight casts a luminous lime green glow in your garden, thanks to its radiant blooms. It is complemented by the Heuchera Lime Marmalade, a plant with unique lime-green leaves that add a playful touch to your flower beds. The bright, scalloped leaves of Alchemilla mollis, commonly known as Lady's Mantle, play an important part in creating texture in borders and beds.
For a garden that keeps its charm all year long, these lime green wonders team up effortlessly with evergreens. Sarcococca confusa has a lovely fragrance and is compact, making it a perfect match for the glossy dark green leaves of Pittosporum tobira and the timeless beauty of Japanese Holly, Ilex crenata. They essentially form the green dream team for your outdoor space!
For a touch of classic elegance, the Geranium Johnson’s Blue or Wargrave Pink are both great choices, while the Agapanthus africanus will add clusters of bright blue or crisp white flowers. The Iris sibirica and Echinacea purpurea create a harmonious blend with their blue and pink hues, bridging the gap between the lime green and the vibrant floral palette.
As the colours unfold, your garden becomes not just a well-designed space but a vibrant ecosystem that hosts essential pollinators. Embark on this horticultural journey by starting your spring with a zing of lime green brilliance, witnessing your outdoor sanctuary transform into an inviting haven, buzzing with life, beauty, and the promise of a flourishing season ahead.

Crafting bespoke outdoor spaces that harmonise with Cornwall's diverse landscapes.
Cornwall is a place of contrast and character, where the land gives way to the sea, and no two homes are quite the same. It follows, then, that outdoor spaces should be as individual as the landscapes they overlook. Kestrel Specialist Handrail Systems understands this well, shaping balconies that are not just functional but an integral part of a home’s personality.
Led by Bruce and James, Kestrel’s approach is one of craftsmanship and precision, ensuring that each balcony is designed to enhance its setting. At the core of their work is 316 Marine grade mirror-polished stainless steel, chosen for its resilience against the salt-laden air and its clean lines. This forms the foundation of many designs, paired with toughened glass infills that allow for uninterrupted views of the surrounding scenery.
For those seeking a different look, toughened laminated glass can be used without a handrail, providing a nearly invisible barrier that maximises openness. Installation methods vary depending on the structure, allowing Kestrel to customise each design for both new builds and sensitive renovations. While stainless steel remains a classic choice, some homeowners prefer a softer approach
by integrating colour-matched elements that complement windows, fascias, or even garden furniture.
Beyond glass, there are other ways to create a secure yet stylish outdoor space. Kestrel offers alternative infill materials, ensuring safety while adding visual interest. Every detail is considered, from the way the light falls through the panels to how the materials sit within their surroundings.
Each balcony is more than just an extension of the home – it is a threshold to the elements, a space where morning coffee meets fresh sea air and evenings are spent watching the changing skies. Kestrel’s commitment to tailored design means that no matter the view, the style of the property, or the demands of the landscape, they create spaces that feel both secure and connected to the world beyond.

Hand-carved and inlaid with poetry, Alchemy Tiles revives a lost medieval craft.
In the heart of Mawnan Smith dwells an artist whose work reaches back in time, capturing typographic and visual motifs that speak to all of us. Mel Chambers, a self-taught ceramicist, breathes life into the ancient craft of hand-carved inlay tiles, a tradition that dates back to the 13th century. From her studio near the Helford River, Mel transforms raw clay into bespoke pieces of art, each tile a testament to her dedication and passion.
At Alchemy Tiles, Mel's creations are more than mere decorations; they are stories etched in clay, whispers of inspiration captured in form. Each tile is meticulously hand-carved, not painted, bearing images, poetry and quotes that resonate with the soul. This process, rooted in ancient techniques, ensures that every piece is unique, a reflection of the client's desires and the timeless beauty of Cornwall.
Mel's commitment to her craft has not gone unnoticed. Alchemy Tiles has been honoured five times with the SME Enterprise Award for Best Artisan Tile Company in the Southwest, a testament to the quality and artistry of her work. As a proud member of the Made in Cornwall Scheme, her tiles have been audited by Trading Standards, receiving the highest accreditation as an 'Approved Origin' product.
The magic of Alchemy Tiles lies not only in their beauty but also in their durability.
Using her own recipes for coloured clays, Mel ensures that the hues are as enduring as the tiles themselves. Fired into the very fabric of the tile, these colours will never fade, standing the test of time just as the ancient floors of old have done.
For those seeking to infuse their homes with a touch of personalised artistry, Alchemy Tiles offers a bespoke service. Each tile is handcut to fit any space, reducing the need for adjustments during installation. Whether it's a kitchen backsplash adorned with a favourite quote, a bathroom wall featuring intricate designs, or a standalone piece commemorating a special occasion, Mel collaborates closely with her clients to bring their visions to life.
In a world where mass production often overshadows individuality, Alchemy Tiles is a celebration of bespoke craftsmanship. Through her dedication to preserving ancient techniques and her unwavering commitment to quality, Mel Chambers offers not just tiles but pieces of art that transform spaces into personal places of inspiration and beauty.

Future-proofing homes with solar panels and heat pumps is making more sense than ever. Here’s why.
At GreenGenUK they believe that by combining solar power with battery storage isn’t just a sustainable choice – it’s a smart financial investment that secures long-term savings and energy independence. By integrating a battery storage system, homeowners can reduce their reliance on the grid, unlocking significant savings on their energy bills while lowering their carbon footprint.
Solar panels generate excess power during daylight hours, and instead of feeding that energy back into the grid, a battery storage system retains it for later use. Charging the battery when electricity costs are low and discharging it during peak times maximises financial savings without compromising comfort. The benefits go beyond cost efficiency. Advanced battery systems offer emergency backup power, ensuring homes remain functional during outages. When
paired with backup kits or island modes, stored solar energy keeps essential appliances such as lights and refrigerators operational, even if the grid goes down.
Certified installers of leading battery storage solutions, including GivEnergy, SolarEdge, and Tesla Powerwall, ensure that each system is tailored to individual needs. Whether lowering energy bills, safeguarding against power disruptions, or enhancing sustainability efforts, a bespoke solar and storage solution makes a home future-ready. Investing in solar PV and battery storage means securing energy resilience, reducing dependency on fluctuating energy prices, and embracing a more sustainable future.
Regulatory changes in 2025 will make heat pumps more accessible to UK homeowners, opening the door to a more energy-efficient and eco-friendly way to heat homes. Air source heat pumps have long been recognised for
their ability to harness external air to generate warmth, significantly reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy bills. However, restrictive regulations have previously limited their installation in certain properties.
One key challenge has been the ‘1-metre rule,’ which required heat pumps to be placed at least one metre away from a property boundary. This restriction often posed difficulties for those with smaller gardens or limited outdoor space. Additionally, the previous size cap of 0.6 cubic metres meant that larger, more powerful units – ideal for bigger homes or colder climates – were not an option. Planning permission requirements for multiple units further complicated the process, adding time and cost.
From 2025, these barriers will be lifted. The removal of the 1-metre rule grants homeowners greater installation flexibility, while the increased unit size limit – from 0.6 cubic metres to 1.5 cubic metres – allows for more powerful systems capable of efficiently heating larger properties. Additionally, detached homes will now be permitted to install up to two heat pumps without additional planning permission, paving the way for more complex and effective heating solutions.
Financial incentives further enhance the appeal of heat pumps. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme continues to offer grants of up to £7,500, significantly reducing installation costs and making the switch to renewable heating more viable. With relaxed regulations and government support in place, now is the ideal time to transition to a more efficient and environmentally responsible heating system.
For homeowners considering the switch, expert guidance ensures a smooth transition to a sustainable home. Whether seeking a complete system upgrade or exploring initial options, tailored solutions can make renewable heating a reality.
GreenGenUK are here to help you make the switch to a more sustainable home. Whether you’re ready for a complete system upgrade or just getting started, they’ll work with you to design the perfect solution. Contact them today for a free consultation and proposal.

At the heart of the experience is a wood-fired hydrotherapy pool, where the welcoming warmth of naturally heated water melts away stress and tension. This soothing soak is complemented by a traditional wood-fired sauna, offering a deep, dry heat that promotes detoxification, improves circulation and relieves muscle fatigue.
For those seeking an invigorating contrast, the temperature-controlled ice bath provides an exhilarating challenge. A plunge into the icy depths stimulates the immune system, boosts circulation and sharpens mental clarity. The practice of alternating between hot and cold therapies is known to enhance overall wellness, leaving guests refreshed and revitalised.
To ensure complete comfort, the spa also features modern showers and private changing rooms, allowing for uninhibited transition between each stage of the journey. Every detail has been carefully considered to create a harmonious and uninterrupted experience from start to finish.
Georgia Sanders, a recent visitor, shared her delight: “An incredible experience right on our doorstep! The hot tub was absolute bliss, and if you’re brave enough, finishing with the cold-water plunge and sauna is the ultimate way to unwind. Martin provided fantastic service – can’t wait to return.” Another guest, Nathan Coe, highlighted the welcoming atmosphere: “A true hidden gem. A great experience for all the family. Five stars from me.”

Cornish Cottage Holidays’ Marketing Manager Emily Mercer explains how self-catering properties have huge potential to thrive in 2025.
For many holiday home owners in Cornwall, their property is more than just a retreat – it’s a valuable business. Making the most of that business and maintaining its appeal in 2025 requires insight and attention to detail.
As Emily explains, “At Cornish Cottage Holidays, we work to maximise bookings and income for our 800+ owners while delivering bespoke property management services. Each January, we analyse data from our national parent company, Sykes Holiday Cottages, to produce our Market Insights Report. This report offers a clear picture of the holiday letting market in Cornwall, based on booking trends, consumer behaviour and industry insights. Crucially, it also provides practical advice for owners looking to enhance their property’s appeal.
“One major trend in our latest report is the rising demand for shorter stays. In 2024, our average stay length dropped to 5.68 nights from 6.14 the previous year, with 24% of bookings for three- to five-night stays. Owners who accept short breaks can see substantial revenue growth – potentially earning 178% of a standard weekly rate if two short stays replace a single week-long booking.
“Allowing pets is another easy win. Petfriendly properties secure 2.5 more bookings
and earn 18% more revenue on average. Sustainability also matters: 65% of UK travellers prefer accommodation with ecocertification. Installing an EV charger could set your property apart – currently, only 5% of our listings offer this.
“Last-minute bookings have become the norm. In August 2024, 2% of all Cornwall bookings were made between 4pm the day before and noon on the arrival day. Ensuring your property remains bookable until the last moment can significantly boost income.
“With demand still strong but bookings made later, working with a well-marketed agency like ours gives owners an edge. We use partner sites, flexible cancellation policies and low deposit options to drive bookings –funded entirely by us, with no risk to you.”

Easy to reach but impossible to forget, the Isles of Scilly should be top of everyone’s list for a day trip in 2025.
These spectacularly beautiful islands lie just 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall and are close enough to visit for the day, as thousands of people do each year. Wild and unspoilt, each of the five inhabited islands that make up the archipelago has its own touch of magic. And once you set foot on them you will be greeted with white sand beaches and the clearest of blue seas.
There is a wealth of experiences on offer for day trippers to the Isles of Scilly – from island hopping and wildlife safaris to bike riding, water sports and vineyard tours.
Reaching these incredible islands for the day has never been easier. You may choose to cruise along the spectacular Cornish coastline on board the passenger ferry, Scillonian III, from Penzance, which is a special experience. Not only are the views of the Cornish coastline incredible, but the opportunities for spotting wildlife are second to none; it’s just been named the UK’s best ferry route for wildlife spotting for the third year in a row. Think whales, dolphins, fish, seals and birds.
Sailings depart up to seven days a week from spring until late autumn and cost just £35 – or £25 for residents of Cornwall.
Special sailing dates throughout the season give you even more time to experience island life, with up to 7 hours and 45 minutes on Scilly.
Or you could fly on Isles of Scilly Travel's very own airline, Skybus, which has been serving the islands for 40 years. Flying gives you unmatched views of the Cornish coastline and islands below and takes just 20 minutes from Land’s End Airport. If you’re torn between flying and sailing, you can do both with a Fly+Sail option offering the chance to book a Skybus flight to Scilly with a Scillonian return journey – an especially memorable way of enjoying a trip to Scilly.
The Isles of Scilly are famously dog-friendly, and dogs are welcome on both Scillonian III and Skybus. Whichever way you choose to travel to the islands, the journey will be a unique part of your holiday memories.

We showcase two properties from a Cornwall Living Award winner’s portfolio of cottages.
Cornwall has a way of getting under the skin, its plethora of stunning beaches and distance from the big cities ensures it can offer a gentler pace. To stay here, truly stay, is to find a place that lets the outside world drift away, and the Cornish Holiday Company offers just that with Port View House and Stone Barn –two retreats that cradle you in comfort while keeping Cornwall’s wild beauty within reach.
Port View House in Pendoggett is an invitation to stretch out and unwind. The journey up its private driveway feels like leaving the everyday behind, leading to a home where space and light reign. The entrance, a generous glass porch, spills into a bright hallway, where four elegantly appointed bedrooms await on the ground floor, their soft hues and sumptuous beds promising deep, undisturbed sleep. Upstairs, the fifth bedroom, tucked away with its own ensuite, offers a quiet refuge. A modern glass staircase rises to an open-plan living area, where the eye is drawn to rolling green fields and the distant shimmer of the sea at Port Gaverne. Here, a bespoke kitchen invites leisurely cooking, its Smeg range cooker and carefully chosen appliances make every meal an occasion. Gather at the dining table or sink into the lounge’s deep sofas, the warmth of the wood-burning stove making winter evenings feel like an embrace. When
the air is soft with summer, step through the sliding doors to a patio made for lingering under starlit skies. Thoughtfully designed for all generations, the house even boasts a games room.
Stone Barn in Lanteglos carries the quiet charm of a place shaped by time. Converted in 2004, it is both spacious and intimate, its three bedrooms offering a blend of comfort and rustic warmth. The upstairs living space exudes ease, with a log burner at its heart, a dining area bathed in light, and a wellequipped kitchen where mornings begin with coffee and the scent of fresh bread. Step outside onto the decking, where the Cornish sun spills over the garden and pond, and let the valley views slow your thoughts. When the weather turns, the games room – stocked with pool, air hockey, and fireside sofas –keeps the spirit of holiday joy alive.
Both properties are more than places to stay they are time capsules for family, for friendship, for the quiet pleasure of simply being.

Words by Jude Kereama
SChef patron Jude Kereama brings a flavour of spring to the table.
pring has started in Cornwall with a full spring in everyone’s step as the days get longer and warmer. Spring is an exciting time in a chef’s calendar as we look to forage for all the ingredients that are popping up in the sun. One of our favourite ingredients is wild garlic, which is starting to appear in our secret foraging spots. We love to use wild garlic all year round, and we will be getting great use of it while it’s in season, as well as preserving it in soups, pickles, and oils that will last all year.
New potatoes are in abundance, and we will see the early-season asparagus, spring onions, alexanders, and wild mushrooms. As the seas warm, we will look forward to sardines, spring prawns, and more mackerel, joining the diverse array of fish available at this time of year.
We love to use wild garlic all year round and we will be getting great use of it while in season
An important date in March’s calendar is Mothering Sunday. It is the best day of the year to celebrate and show our appreciation for all those mums that we owe so much to. What are you going to do to celebrate your mum? Are you going to cook her a dinner to give her a well-deserved day off, or are you going to take her out for a lovely meal in your favourite restaurant? Kota and Kota Kai will both be open for Mother’s Day, and there will be special dishes in both restaurants, as well as different offerings and versions of their Sunday lunch. There will also be a free glass of bubbles for mum to start her day off the right way.
It’s also this weekend when the clocks go forward, and we all get to enjoy an extra hour of sunshine. That’s when you know we are really heading into the warm season. And with that warmth, we look forward to even more ingredients coming onto the menu, like peas, broad beans and morels.
Spring sees the start of a new menu at Kota Kai. It has been a couple of months since Ryan, our new head chef, started, and we are both really excited about the new changes. We are keeping the same Asian flavours but will also be introducing some Central and South American influences. We did a series of around-the-world nights during winter that were so popular we have incorporated quite a few of those dishes as
inspiration for our Spring menu. Expect some big, bold flavours with the same great service.
Also new is our seasonal cocktail list. Ash, our bar manager, has created some wonderful new cocktails to whet your appetite. It has been a lot of fun tasting them, and I have found it very hard to pick a favourite.
Kota has been open with our new concept for a few weeks now. It has been amazing to see the transformation of the space, but also how well received it has been. I have really enjoyed the new, more relaxed vibe in the restaurant and the buzz around the room. The food has been really enjoyed by all, and our new format allows us to change the dishes more often. Already, within the first couple of weeks, we have changed a few dishes with the arrival of some beautiful ingredients. We are also hoping to launch the Kota Wine Club by the end of the month. This will be a fun way for people to try a case of six wines each month from our favourite winemakers and suppliers. There will be tasting notes and a couple of recipes that will go out with each box, and a six-course tasting night with wines each month. Enjoy the sunshine!

COOK TIME: 3-3¾ hours
INGREDIENTS
4 lamb shanks
200g waxy baby potatoes
800ml coconut milk
500ml chicken stock
3 tbsp palm sugar
For the massaman curry paste:
8 cloves garlic, chopped
3 banana shallots, peeled and roughly chopped
3 long red chillies, chopped
2 stalks lemongrass, chopped
1 small thumb ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
1½ tsp shrimp paste
3 tbsp Thai fish sauce
4 cardamom pods crushed
¼ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
The history of Thailand's Massaman curry stems from a wonderful mix of cultures. The dish is popular in the south of the country towards its border with Malaysia. It's said to have been first brought over from Persia and then adapted using local flavours and ingredients from the region. In comparison to other
1 Heat the oven to 180°C and roast the peanuts on a tray for about 8 minutes until they're golden brown. Put them to the side and reduce the oven to 150°C.
2 Set a pan on a medium heat and brown the lamb shanks all over. Season with salt and put aside. Put all the ingredients for the massaman paste in a blender and blitz to form a paste.

Traditionally the dish is served with jasmine rice, but as an alternative I also like to serve it with some creamy mash potatoes, as you would with a traditional braised lamb shank.
and add the paste. Fry for around 8 minutes, until all the flavours and aromas are released from the paste. Add the lamb shanks, potatoes, coconut milk, chicken stock and palm sugar to the casserole dish and bring to a simmer.

Set above the rolling waves of Mevagissey bay, Stingi’s is an infusion of cultures. Opening at the stunning Pentewan Sands, this brand-new restaurant is a feast for all the senses.
Where Cornish produce meets Asian flavours, Stingi’s is a place where friends reconnect over shared experiences.
The journey begins at the cocktail bar, where expert mixologists craft inventive concoctions using spirits sourced from around the world. From Japanese whisky to vermouth produced at St Austell’s Knightor Winery, each drink is a vibrant prelude to the flavours that follow.
After a drink, guests take their seats in the restaurant, where immersive Asian décor meets a sizzling spectrum of flavours. Floorto-ceiling glass windows frame views of waves breaking against the sand, while striking light sculptures spark the imagination. A glass-preserved jellyfish and two magnificent koi carp cast a warm glow over the space, setting the tone for an evening of bold, tantalising tastes.
From Malaysia to Tokyo, Thailand to Singapore, Stingi’s blends contemporary Asian culture with Cornish heart. Locally grown produce, meat from nearby farms, and fish caught just off the bay form the foundation of every dish. Sourcing the finest
ingredients and drawing inspiration from travels abroad, the restaurant is a meeting of cultures and a celebration of places that have left a lasting impression.
Open Thursday to Saturday from noon, Stingi’s offers a first seating inspired by the Cantonese ‘Yum Cha’ brunch. Guests can relax as a selection of beautifully hand-crafted small plates pass by, choosing whatever takes their fancy while sipping on beer, crafty cocktails, Japanese whisky, or a traditional cup of tea.
In the evening, an à la carte menu showcases refined techniques and exceptional local produce. Each course can be paired with wines from Truro’s Old Chapel Cellars, while the sun sets over the sea, casting fiery amber hues across the plate.
This multi-sensory dining experience opens on Friday, 28th March. With just 54 seats per sitting, advance booking is essential.

A true taste of Cornwall’s tenacity has emerged from an unexpected yet fitting collaboration between two of the county’s fiercest forces – rugby and spice.
The Cornish Pirates and Cornish Chillies have joined hands to create Red Hot Chilli Pirates, a sauce that embodies the fire, strength, and passion both brands pour into their craft.
This spirited partnership was sparked by a chance meeting at the famous Halzephron Inn between Cornish Chillies Director Rob Popham and Cornish Pirates’ Centre Harry Yates. A shared love for rugby and spice set the idea in motion, with Yates’ enthusiasm for bold flavours planting the seed for what would become a truly collaborative endeavour. Rob and Harry’s initial discussion led them to Ross Hancock, Head of Media at the Pirates, whose creative vision helped shape the sauce’s identity. From there, it became a full team effort, with Sally Pettipher, Scott and Sue Hall and Sprout Hub all playing vital roles in bringing Red Hot Chilli Pirates to life.
The sauce itself is a tempest of flavour, expertly blending Scotch Bonnets and Red Habaneros with the bright sweetness of mango, all underpinned by Cornwall’s own Crusty Juggler Black Spiced Rum. Scott Hall, who co-founded Cornish Chillies with his wife Sue, describes it as the perfect embodiment of the Pirates’ fearless spirit – a balance of heat,
zest, and deep smokiness, designed for those who like their food to have as much bite as their rugby.
Cornish Pirates CEO Sally Pettipher is among its early devotees, praising the partnership as a fusion of two truly fierce Cornish brands. “Pirates’ fire on the pitch will be stoked by Red Hot Chilli Pirates fire on the plate,” she says, urging supporters to bring the same passion into their kitchens.
This collaboration has been months in the making, with the teams at Cornish Pirates, Cornish Chillies and Sauce Shed Ltd working closely to perfect the recipe. Bringing the project to life is Sprout Hub, the creative force behind Cornish Chillies’ new website and e-commerce platform, ensuring this fiery creation reaches spice lovers near and far.
Now available for preorder via the Cornish Chillies and Cornish Pirates websites, Red Hot Chilli Pirates is a true celebration of Cornwall’s indomitable spirit – bold, uncompromising, and impossible to ignore.

Emerging from winter’s slumber, Rock Distillery unveils bold spirits, new designs and expansion.
Rock Distillery emerges from winter with the energy of a spring tide, its stores refreshed, its spirits flowing, and its reputation rising like the Cornish sun. This boutique distillery, based in Wadebridge, has long been synonymous with quality, but recent developments –including a celebrated appearance on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh – have propelled it further into the spotlight.
The show’s mixologist, Andy Clarke, crafted a cocktail with Rock Distillery’s Banana Blast Rum and Toffee Vodka Liqueur, a concoction reminiscent of a Banana Bon Bon. The reaction was immediate: online orders surged as curious connoisseurs sought to recreate the experience. This fusion of nostalgia and indulgence encapsulates what Rock Distillery does best – balancing innovation with an unmistakable sense of place.
Beyond television acclaim, Rock Distillery has been quietly but determinedly expanding its reach. With five shops across Cornwall and a new outpost in Wiltshire, the distillery’s presence is growing almost as quickly as its product range. Visitors stepping into one of these stores find themselves immersed in a world of expertly crafted spirits: an extensive selection of gins, robust rums, velvety whiskies and vibrant vodkas. Apple brandy and brandy
liqueurs provide the perfect way to round off an evening, each bottle infused with Rock Distillery’s signature commitment to natural ingredients and pure taste.
Alongside the spirits, the distillery offers glassware designed to enhance the drinking experience, each piece as refined as the liquid it holds. New designs are on the horizon, promising collectors and enthusiasts another reason to return. Meanwhile, cocktail aficionados can now purchase a striking copper cocktail compendium – a set designed to bring professional flair to home mixology.
As Rock Distillery steps into spring, there’s a palpable sense of momentum. With its unwavering dedication to craft and an evergrowing audience, this Cornish distillery is proving that excellence is best served with a measure of ambition – and perhaps a Banana Bon Bon in hand.

Words by Stephen Maggs, Tax Partner at RRL
Stephen Maggs assesses the impact on businesses of recent inheritance tax changes.
Much has been made in the popular press of the £1m cap per individual to be introduced on inheritance tax Agricultural Property Relief claims, meaning many business owners could be forgiven for thinking that non-agricultural businesses are unaffected. Which isn’t the case at all! The £1m cap also applies to inheritance tax Business Property Relief (BPR) – which relates to unquoted trading businesses. These changes are significant for trading businesses and the cap set to be introduced on 6 April 2026 requires consideration at an early stage.
BPR is currently unlimited, meaning that a share/interest in an unquoted trading business is not subject to inheritance tax once the share/ interest has been owned for two years. From 6 April 2026, this will be capped at £1m. The excess of the value of such an interest/share above £1m will be subject to inheritance tax at 20% - resulting in inheritance tax liabilities that would not currently arise.
A broad overview of the impacts and considerations for unquoted trading businesses is:
All business owners, whether impacted or not by these changes, should regularly review their succession or exit strategy – it is key to avoid the “bury my head in the sand” strategy. If the next generation is not involved in, or not capable of running the business, etc, –such positions need to be acknowledged and planned for. Whether the desire is to sell the business in the short-term, grow the business to sell, or for the business owner to take a step back but keep the business earning for the family, is there an adequate management team in place to facilitate this? If not, a recruitment policy needs to be considered, potentially with a remuneration structure for key personnel to drive the objective.
Many business owners may now have an inheritance tax liability under the new rules –such business owners should seek advice from an experienced tax advisor (CTA member) to
calculate their exposure to inheritance tax, factoring in the change. This is particularly important for elderly business owners, or those in ill health.
Business owners should then seek advice on mitigation planning opportunities to attempt to mitigate any increased inheritance tax liability that results from the proposed changes. One option may be lifetime gifts of shares/interests – however, practical advice needs to be obtained here around such issues as: how would direct transfers to individuals impact the running of the business? Is future divorce (which will require family legal advice) or bankruptcy proceedings that the next generation may be party to a concern? Is losing control (voting rights, etc) a concern if gifts are made? Planning using trusts as opposed to direct gifts may be prudent to consider if any, or all, of these are a concern. The structure of the business may be important.
Where mitigation planning isn’t desirable at the moment, businesses and their owners should consider taking life insurance to cover business owners’ inheritance tax liability on their death. This is to provide funds so that the liability can be funded.
From a funds perspective, businesses may need to consider factoring such liabilities in their cash reserve planning and projection. This may impact cash extraction decisions. The corporate legal governance documentation
(namely Articles of Association, shareholders’ agreements, partnership agreements etc) of the business should be considered by an experienced tax advisor working in conjunction with an experienced corporate lawyer – ensuring there are clear mechanisms for shares in an unquoted trading company to be purchased by the company (a share buyback/purchase of own shares) and/or other shareholders and for what price. Fundamentally, this documentation is consistent with the will of the business owner – therefore this is an opportune time to seek corporate legal advice to review and refresh the business governance documentation, and the business owners’ wills.
Business succession has long been considered too late or not at all due to the safety net of the inheritance tax reliefs that are the subject of these reforms. From 6 April 2026, this changes. Much of what business owners do now will be fundamental to what the business looks like in the future, what value is left to the next generation, and the legacy of the business.

St Petrocs supported accommodation: empowering people on their journey to end homelessness.
St Petroc's ambition is to end homelessness in Cornwall. They believe that everyone should have a safe and secure place to call home. Donations help to provide essential services for people experiencing homelessness in Cornwall.

Victoria Clark knows what it is to rebuild. Once immersed in the relentless world of high finance, where numbers dictated fate and pressure was the unrelenting tide, she now channels her energy into a different kind of transformation – one that brings structure and solace to people in need. Her work with St Petrocs is not a sideline to her business; it is an extension of the principles that have come to define her second life.
“The foundation of my work has always been empathy,” she says. “Whether I’m helping someone declutter a home or supporting St Petrocs, it’s about creating stability where there has been none.”
Victoria’s involvement with the charity is hands-on. She has collected warm clothing, toiletries and essential supplies, ensuring that those experiencing homelessness receive practical support. It is, she says, a privilege to help. “When someone is facing homelessness, the smallest acts can mean the world. A fresh set of clothes, a warm coat – it’s more than comfort, it’s dignity.”
St Petrocs, an organisation dedicated to ending homelessness in Cornwall, relies on the support of businesses like ByVictoriaClark.
Her commitment extends beyond donations; she raises awareness, fosters connections and encourages others to do the same. “We cannot do this alone,” says a spokesperson from St Petrocs. “Victoria’s contributions have made a tangible impact and her passion for supporting people in need is inspiring.”
Her approach is neither grand nor selfcongratulatory. It is practical, deliberate, and deeply personal. “There’s a misconception that homelessness is simply about losing a roof over your head,” Victoria explains. “It’s about losing stability, losing a sense of self. What St Petrocs offers is more than shelter – it’s a way back.”
As she continues to bring order into the lives of her clients, Victoria remains committed to a broader vision: that Cornwall can be a place where no one is left behind. “We all have something to give,” she says. “And giving, no matter how small, can change everything.”
