Slow living at its best
In the heart of north Cornwall, a secluded cabin sits as a haven to peace; a place that welcomes people and dogs alike. Its charred timbers embrace the Japandi aesthetic – a blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design that merges two historic ‘less-is-more’ cultures. This style celebrates everyday beauty and a connection with nature, featuring geometric shapes, sophisticated colours and an appreciation of materials. The cabin’s expansive windows frame a stunning panorama, inviting an appreciation of the flora and fauna. Sunlight filters through the trees, casting dappled patterns throughout the space.
Inside, the cabin’s minimalist design consciously foregrounds its clean lines and natural materials, reflecting the simplicity and harmony of the surrounding landscape. Its rewilded and secluded location amplifies a sense of escape, one that can be appreciated from the wood-fired hot tub. All in all, it’s a cosy retreat no matter the season, making this cabin the perfect spot to reconnect with nature.

HYDRATION
Enhance your pup’s water bowl with the power of Pawd Drinks!
Ensuring dogs stay hydrated is crucial, especially during the summer months. Recognising signs of dog dehydration is vital, particularly on hot days. Common indicators include lethargy, sticky gums and nose and loss of skin elasticity. However, it’s also important that your canine companion is topped up with other essential nutrients to keep them healthy and happy.
At Pawd Drinks their ground-breaking liquid supplements are brimming with natural ingredients aimed at addressing common health issues like anxiety and mobility problems. These supplements can be poured directly into an empty bowl, mixed with dog food, or frozen into ice cubes, making hydration more enjoyable and nutritious. What’s more, incorporating water-based supplements into a dog’s diet enhances the appeal of daily drinking.
Veterinarians overwhelmingly support liquid supplements for dogs, with 95% recommending them due to their high bio-availability and ease of administration. Liquid supplements are absorbed within one to four minutes and boast a 98% nutrient absorption rate, compared to pills which only offer
40% absorption and take 30-40 minutes to break down. This efficiency makes liquid supplements gentler on a dog’s body. A recent survey revealed that 45 out of 52 dogs preferred Pawd Drinks.
Lucie, a dog owner, shared her experience: “I have a four-year-old boxer dog named Buster. We tried Pawd Drinks as a preventative measure for his joints since he loves to run and jump. The daily dosage in each bottle is perfect, and Buster finds them incredibly tasty. They’re ideal for dogs who resist tablet supplements!”
Pawd Drinks offers a range including Pawd Calming and Pawd Joints, with Pawd Wellness launching next month. Created by leading animal nutritionists, these supplements target common health issues and are designed to be enjoyable and stress-free for both dogs and owners. This eliminates the need for force-feeding or disguising pills in food FOR MORE INFORMATION EMAIL
Dogs, dishes AND DRINKS
Since opening its doors in 2014, The Rising Sun in Truro has always welcomed dogs. In little part due to one of its residents.
Hamish, The Rising Sun Truro’s own canine resident and a Hungarian Vizsla, hangs out mostly front of house, greeting guests with his signature excitability and welcoming tips in the form of treats and affection. He also looks forward to greeting fellow four-legged visitors – you can tell how excited he is when other dogs come to visit by his characteristic full-body tail wag
In fact, there is typically always company for Hamish in the pub. You can find him at the bar eyeing up the treat jar, snoozing under a table, or curled up in front of the log burner. In the summer, he and his friends play outside in the courtyard garden, where there’s plenty of shade for them to escape the heat. Despite its city location, The Rising Sun feels very much like a rural neighbourhood pub, its ‘country pub’ atmosphere proving to be a firm favourite among locals and their furry friends.
What’s more, as an award-winning dining pub, it’s one of Cornwall’s must-visit foodie spots, heralded by the Taste of the West Awards for its “fantastic and creative food” that blends textures and flavours to satisfy the inquisitive and those who care about the provenance of what they’re eating. Dedicated local producers and suppliers go hand in hand with chef patron Tom’s skills in the kitchen. While the restaurant itself is dog-free, let the team know if you’ll be bringing your dog along, and they’ll set aside a table in one of the bar areas for you.
So, if your pooch is looking for good company while you enjoy some of our city’s finest food, be sure to pencil in a trip to The Rising Sun!

LAND’S END Why dogs love
Experience the sights, sounds and smells that only the end of Britain’s mainland has to offer.
At the Land’s End Hotel, dogs are always welcome. In fact, the hotel prides itself on its dog friendliness, with a large number of the welcoming team owning dogs themselves. Pooches are welcome in most rooms, and the wider hotel provides a contemporary, relaxing and inviting space in which to relax after a long day spent exploring the local coastline.
And what a coastline it is! Not only can guests enjoy the always impressive and ever-changing views from the cliffs of the end of the British mainland, there are also endless miles of South West Coast Path to explore in either direction. Sennen beach is just a mile away, a beautiful walk in itself, and near the hotel you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly amenities to help while away a leisurely afternoon.
This is the case whatever time of year you choose to visit, however it’s worth noting that between October and March each year, dogs stay for free! The best part about that is that you’ll get to experience the different moods of this incredible landscape as it dons its autumn and winter cloak, with often stormy weather frothing up the seas below for a spectacle that reminds you of just how treacherous the coastline can be for sailors, even today.
Indeed, the area is rich with maritime history; you need only gaze out from the cliffs on a clear day to see Longships Lighthouse, the building of which was repeatedly petitioned for by sailors who knew all too well the dangers that lurk beneath the waves here. As if to stress the point, only a short walk along the coast can you find the wreck of the RMS Mulheim, which foundered and wrecked as recently as 2003.
Of course, pups may not be as interested as their owners in this side of Cornwall, however the walk to see such sights is replete with exciting new sounds and smells for them to soak up, and it’s fair to say that both of you will relish the home comforts that await when you return to the Land’s End Hotel.

Waggy tails in
WEST CORNWALL
We explore why dogs love this region of the Duchy, with The Cornish Way.
Surrounded on three sides by the sea, the far west of Cornwall is a paradise for you and your four-legged friend. Here are some of The Cornish Way’s top places to walk, eat and stay with your canine companion.
West Cornwall Beaches
Starting off with beaches, we head to Gwenver, one of west Cornwall’s finest. Dog friendly all year round, it offers golden sand, amazing surf and sunsets across the ocean. Portheras is another, and remains one of the far west’s lesser-known spots. A glorious sandy cove just past Pendeen, it comes highly recommended for four-legged explorers!
Places to eat
For the team at The Cornish Way, it’s hard to beat kicking off your wellies after a walk and enjoying the fine food on offer at The Gurnard’s Head. Set in a dramatic clifftop location between St Ives and St Just, here you’ll find food strong and spirited in flavour, cooked beautifully, with ingredients sourced from Cornwall’s natural larder.
The Dog and Rabbit is another favourite, a hidden gem of a café in St Just that offers sublime coffee, delicious lunches, and which, crucially, loves to welcome dogs!
n Thimble Cottage
Dog-friendly stays
With over 85% of their properties being dog friendly, The Cornish Way team understand the importance of bringing your pooch on holiday to Cornwall with you. More than that, they recognise that just because you’re travelling with four-legged family members, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice on the luxury touches and home comforts that the modern guest has come to expect.
With this in mind, they recommend Hendra Cottage, a stunning home set high above the coast path between Sennen and the Cot Valley. Here you can enjoy a wood-fired hot tub overlooking the ocean, before retreating to coastal comfort whilst your pooch curls up after a long day of seaside walkies.
Alternatively, Thimble Cottage lies in a tucked-away position in Trewellard between St Just and Pendeen. This gorgeous little cottage boasts a wonderful inglenook for your dog to curl up in front of after a day spent bracing the Cornish elements.

A resource for
WILDLIFE
Cornwall Wildlife Trust – safeguarding wildlife and wild places for generations to come.
It’s a beautiful time of year in Cornwall and one where many visitors come to explore the picturesque countryside views, hidden coves and over 400 miles of stunning coastline. Cornwall Wildlife Trust is keen to encourage people to enjoy the amazing wildlife in Cornwall whilst also helping to protect it.
As one of the best places in Britain for wildlife watching, you can expect to see a rich variety of marine life, including sharks, seabirds and globally rare grey seals that frequent our shores. On land, we have an exceptional array of wild creatures, many of which can be spotted at one of Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s 59 nature reserves. From beautiful butterflies to rare, colourful birds and beavers that are back after centuries – there’s plenty to see!
No matter where you’re staying, whether on the coast or inland, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy Cornwall’s amazing wildlife, and Cornwall Wildlife Trust has some great advice to help make sure our enjoyment doesn’t take precedence over the safety and wellbeing of the animals that you encounter.
First and foremost, it is important to avoid disturbing any wildlife by following the Cornwall
Marine and Coastal Code. Many wildlife species are under increasing pressure from human activity and therefore need our help and respect. Remember to give wildlife space and time, observe from a distance and avoid actions that may scare, startle or panic them and to leave only footprints when exploring.
If you want to take it a step further and actively help protect the wildlife of Cornwall, then here are a few more suggestions for you. Cornwall Wildlife Trust hosts the Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS) – the central resource for wildlife and habitat information for the county. They are encouraging anyone to submit their wildlife sightings as this will help them improve understanding of the natural history of Cornwall, as well as to be used in decision-making, education, research and other public benefit purposes.
Some other great ideas include supporting local Cornish businesses whilst you are visiting, eating sustainable seafood and getting involved in a beach clean.
