RMIG’s new RecoIlInG systeM fuRtheR IMpRovInG accuRacy and qualIty Quality guarantee RMIG Ltd has recently purchased a new 1250 mm wide recoiling unit. The new unit allows for very accurate and tight recoiling of perforated coils. It is technically a more sensitive method, which makes the perforated material less prone to scratching or damage. This is an important advantage as such material is often prepainted for architectural applications.

Range of coils The new machine is capable of recoiling a range of thicknesses from 0.4 mm to 2.0 mm, and can recoil widths from 400 mm to 1250 mm. The recoiling line is rated for a maximum weight of 4,500 kg. Coils can be offered with or without cardboard inserts.

Convenience Lead-time from the machine is normally within five days from receipt of raw material. We can also help our customers reduce their logistics costs by storing their raw material in our designated warehouse.

Designed and manufactured by the Dutch vending experts Innovend B.V., the Cabin Size Scanner (CSS) helps consumers at Samsonite’s airport located stores to select the appropriate suitcase by a combination of infra-red scanning and platform scale precision weighing using the ZEMIC’s L6T series single-point load cell. The L6T is widely used for single and double load cell structured platform scales with a maximum platform size of 800 mm x 800mm and is supplied with relevant OIML and NTEP certification. The load cell is part of a wide range which covers aluminium, stainless or alloy steels, to suit single and double load cell structured platform scale applications from small weighing scales to large weighbridge structures and beyond.

Load cell set-up and calibration is made straightforward with ZEMIC’s ‘Top Sensors’ T1 weight transmitter that is used to integrate the loadcell with the GUI application through its TCP/IP network.

The space saving device saves time with its special theoretical calibration which does not rely on heavy weights to calibrate the machine but uses a ZEMIC calibration sheet supplied with the loadcell by simply entering the full scale output in mV/V. The T1 can also be supplied for Profibus or ProfiNET or may be used with RS232/ RS485 connection.

Miniature Motor perforMance and durability: Portescap’s new 22ECP brushless slotless DC motors available from Mclennan

Portescap’s new 22ECP series brushless and slotless miniature motors feature optimised speed/ torque performance characteristics in two length versions with 80 W or 120 W continuous output power. Now available from motion control specialist Mclennan, the new 22 mm diameter motor particularly suits demanding speed and/or position controlled power transmission use where smooth operation, high precision, long working life and competitive costs are essential design considerations. Typical applications include high performance power tools, precision actuators, automation equipment, robotics, and wherever high mechanical power and solid durability is required in a compact installation envelope.

The 22ECP is part of Portescap’s patented Ultra EC™ range – which is characterised by its superior power density factor and attractive price vs. performance. The new addition is available in nominal lengths of 45 and 60 mm and can deliver up to 50 mNm continuous torque – up to thirty percent more torque and twice the output potential of similar sized precision motors.

The 24V DC motor with 40 mm length (22ECP45) can deliver no load speeds of 8.37 or 15.70 krpm, whilst the 60 mm version (22ECP60) yields

The high precision M22 series planetary gearbox range is a similarly a direct fit for compact high torque use up to 4 Nm. Through its own design and manufacturing capability, Mclennan can also provide absolute encoders or other gear unit choices; or include the 22ECP as part of a customised miniature power transmission solution complete with motion controls.

Portescap’s full range of Ultra EC motors includes several other 22 mm diameter models that provide stall torque from 28 to 100 mNm and no-load speeds from 24 to 60 krpm.

The complete range allows customers a wide choice of performance characteristics for new miniature power transmission applications or as a replacement for conventional brushed DC motor installations. SICK RFU650 Series Delivers Easy, Stand-Alone RFID SICK has launched the RFU650, a long-range read/write RFID device that delivers compact, stand-alone RFID identification and traceability without requiring complex programming or separate external antennae.

The RFU650 offers a rugged and affordable device with a typical sensing range of up to five metres that can distinguish accurately between transponder tags on assembly parts, goods or packages, even when they are moving in opposite directions.

For the first time, direction of entry and movement, as well as the position and angle of product assemblies, goods and packages can be reliably detected in an automated factory, goods handling or logistics environment with standards-compliant communication in real time to the factory fieldbus and DCS system.

Explains Mark Harris, SICK UK’s Systems & Auto Ident Manager, said: “The performance of conventional RFID systems over long distances is limited by the sender power, aperture angle, tag properties, and application environment. Until now, directions of movement could only be derived by using additional, external antennae and specialist algorithms.

“So, for automated assembly,

receiving and outgoing logistics operations, for example, the SICK RFU650 solves the problem of accurate tracking without the need for complex and costly RFID sensing portals with multiple antennae and shielding to read, record and write data. The RFU650 delivers essential data, even at intersections, cross traffic and multi-product holding points.

“Position sensing, passage, angles of up to +/- 45° and direction detection are all standard features thanks to the RFU650’s integral advanced algorithms. This avoids the need for additional software and hardware to obtain accurate information on product progress through the plant or warehouse. The software even allows static tagged objects to be filtered out.”

The built-in technology of the RFU650 also makes it easy for integrators or OEMs to link the RFU650 into factory and warehouse networks. With SICK’s proprietary 4Dpro connectivity, the RFU650 communicates with all common industrial fieldbuses

and is compatible with other SICK RFID read/write devices, making it highly flexible as part of an upgraded or enhanced installation for improved tracking and control.

Additional software functions can be programmed in the SICK software environment and integrated into the device to via the SICK APPSpace platform.

The durable IP67 enclosure rating enables the RFU650 to be used in rugged environments and external locations. The RFU650 conforms to ISO/IEC 18000-63, meeting requirements for data integrity and quality.

Different options for parameter cloning between systems (e.g. the integrated microSD memory card feature) reduce maintenance time.

The integrated feedback LED can be used to read diagnostic or process feedback.

omau presents the extension of its small robot family for quick applications in restricted spaces, including handling, assembly and pick&place, by introducing two new robots – Racer5-0.63 and Racer5-0.80. Both are controlled by the R1C 19” rack-mounted controller, which can be integrated into a single cabinet to control an entire line. The robots are also available in the openROBOTICS version where the robot is directly integrated into the existing machine/line automation controlled by B&R technologies.

In doing so, Comau keeps the promise made last June with the launch of the Racer3, when it announced a competitive presence in the small machine sector within a year.

Both robots are built on the Racer3 technological platform, thus offering solutions which share the same components and parts, in a strategy aimed at expanding the integrated range of robots.

In detail, the two new robots expand the capacity of Racer3 in terms of payload and reach. Racer5-0.63 features a reach of 630mm

and payload of 5kg. Racer5-0.80 is also rated for a payload of 5kg, but has an extended reach of 809mm. All the other features of Racer3 remain the same, including the sectors and applications for which they are suited: handling, assembly and pick&place.

NSK Roller bearing for large gearboxes offer long life

NSK roller Designed to improve the reliability of large gearboxes used in wind power generators and other industrial machines, NSK has introduced a long-life, large-size roller bearing. The principal innovation of the new bearing is a combination of special heat treatment technology and proprietary NSK material that delivers superior flaking resistance, including that of white structure flaking. The result is seven times longer service life than that provided by a standard steel (SUJ2) bearing.

The gearboxes found in wind power generators and mining, steelmaking and construction equipment, require roller bearings that are able to support heavy loads. In addition, such bearings must demonstrate excellent reliability in order to cope with the increasing size of wind power generators being produced, and the harsh operating conditions of industrial machinery.

It was these factors that prompted NSK to create a robust, large bearing capable of class-leading reliability. This task demanded the development of a special heat treatment process that was able to delay the occurrence and propagation of cracks.

As a result of these innovations, NSK’s roller bearings for large gearboxes demonstrates seven times longer white structure flaking life than a conventional standard steel bearing. Furthermore, surface originated flaking life is three times as long, while substrate originated flaking life and fracture toughness are both double. As an additional benefit, the rate of dimensional change offered by NSK’s roller bearing for large gearboxes is 50 times less than that of conventional alternatives.

In conclusion, today’s large gearbox designers should consider the use of NSK’s long-life large roller bearing for improved reliability in harsh environments. NSK is anticipating global annual sales for this product of around €8 million by 2017.

Elesa VCT-LP series retained lobe knobs “Where did I put that knob?” – well Elesa have the answer – by putting a chain on their VCT-LP lobe knobs they have ensured that these vital clamping components need never be lost in the course of adjustment or disassembly/assembly.

Packaging Air Conditioning Systems EMKA UK – as market leaders in enclosure hardware – are very aware of the special needs of the HVAC market which often calls for vibration resistance and adjustability of large access doors mounted on sturdy easily demountable hinges.

The EMKA solution is typically a package of their program 1000 compression T handle latch/lock, or similar L handle or wing handle. These offer convenient quarter-turn operation with cylinder key lock, plus a full 6mm compression of the gasket, so guarding against spurious door opening under vibration conditions.

Heavy duty program 1046 weld-on or bolt-on hinges with concealed fittings and removable hinge pins accommodate both the weight of large doors and the need to remove them quickly – factors which can also call for adjustable hinges. Frequently the 1054 3D hinge is required to deal with this situation.

Sealing of these doors is often best facilitated by use of the 1011-09 right angle clip-on EPDM profile strip with integral D section to prevent ingress of liquids and solids.
