Composite Wrap Tackles Complex Pipe Geometries Corroded Bends, Straights and Tees Get Wrapped Up In April 2015, a Norwegian Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO) requested a solution to rebuild, strengthen and protect corroded gas pipes. A series of pipes on board the North Sea FPSO were displaying signs of corrosion between both the pipe and support, in some areas registering thin wall defects with up to 35% wall loss. Not only did this represent a severe containment issue, but it also threatened the vessel’s operation.

Impressively, FPSOs combine facilities for production, processing and storage all in the same place. Often viewed as a safer and more economical solution, with the ability to relocate to another development, these vessels have become the foremost system for offshore oil and gas production.
Receiving material from subsea reservoirs, it is then processed before being stored on board, until it is possible to offload elsewhere via tanker or through pipelines. These pipes often suffer severe corrosion at support point due to abrasion and/or galvanic corrosion. This can have destructive effects on the wall’s integrity, quickly developing into thin and even through-wall defects. In this situation, the customer highlighted how the 6” gas pipe system was suffering from corrosion between the pipe and support. Significantly, the hazardous part of the project was lifting the pipes because of internal pressures; therefore, in order to eliminate the associated risks, the project needed to be executed offline. In order to limit the downtime of the FPSO, the asset owner assigned a limited shutdown Belzona SuperWrap II period, totalling 7 days. tackles complex geometries Because welding was not an option, the application required a unique cold applied solution due to the total number of irregular pipe geometries, incorporating a well-engineered design, for both Tee junctions and sharp bends. Consequently, the customer selected Belzona SuperWrap II, because of the composite wrap’s versatility and ability to conform to complex geometries. Having previously worked with the Belzona Distributorship in Norway, CAN AS, the customer received a precise timeline for the applications, overall guaranteeing an efficient and structured process. Within this time, five of the days were specified for the design and installation of all six repairs, whilst the remainder allowed for curing and demobilisation of all equipment and personnel.

The application was carried out in accordance with ISO/TS 24817 and ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1., certifying the composite wrap system in line with equipment and piping repair regulations, for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries. Prior to the installation, heavy equipment was rigged into place, necessary for lifting the large sections of pipe, consistent with engineering designs. Notably, some areas needed the use of rope access techniques, requiring an overall team of five operators, including riggers, inspectors and product specialists. In order to determine the extent of the defect, ultrasound equipment was used to inspect the status of the damaged pipework. Eventually this revealed areas where more than a third of the substrate had succumbed to thin wall corrosion, thus demanding reconstruction of the pipeline surface before the application of Belzona SuperWrap II. As a part of the designated plan, the installation team assembled tarpaulin housing around the specific pipe defect, for grit blasting and climate control purposes. Each wrap application followed the same procedures, by initially grit blasting in accordance with Standard SA2.5, removing any foreign corrosive matter. Ultimately this provided an optimum substrate surface profile of 75µm, ideal for successful application. Once achieved, corrosion resistant Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) was used to rebuild the metal substrate. The versatile adhesive properties of the resurfacing epoxy-based composite, particularly on carbon steel substrates, created a level surface for the next stage of repair. As highlighted, the complex pipe geometries included bends, straights and tees, necessitating a tailored design for the Belzona SuperWrap II application. The two-part, fluid grade resin system works in conjunction with a bespoke hybrid reinforcement sheet based on fibre glass and carbon fibre. The fibre glass offers flexibility, in addition to serving as a wet-out indicator, which ensures effective application of the reinforcement sheet. Interwoven with carbon fibres, the reinforcement sheet provides the composite wrap with the strength it needs to retain high pressures and loads.

iwis Drive Systems Ltd “Raises The Standard” in Britain’s Capital
The River Thames, which passes through Britain’s capital, has seen a free ferry service based at Woolwich near Greenwich since the mid 18th Century and has been enshrined in statue since 1885. The two terminals on the north and south banks allow vehicles and foot passengers to cross the river on one of two operational ferries. Each year the ferries carry over 1M vehicles and 2.5M passengers with a service operating approximately every 10 minutes, running 14 hours per day, 363 days every year. The vehicles and passengers embark at each side on one of 2 bridges or “Linkspans” which raise and lower according to tide, allowing a safe passage onto and off the ferry. The current operator, Briggs Marine Contractors, is contracted by Transport For London (TFL) to manage a major overhaul of the complete ferry system to increase the reliability and resilience of the service and maintain the ferry service for many years to come. Briggs contracted Amco to undertake the major works associated with the linkspan refurbishment which has included the replacement of the c o m p l e t e h o i s t i n g mechanism. The 4 x 240 Ton bridges or “link spans” (who’s life had expired)
were lifted by roller chains attached to a wire rope & roller arrangement. The lifting system has been replaced by a roller chain and direct drive sprocket arrangement supplied by iwis Drive Systems Ltd . In January 2014 Amco awarded the order to iwis Drive Systems Ltd, to produce and supply 500m of its 56B-2 (3 ½” Pitch Duplex) Elite Precision Roller Chain and 32pcs of duplex drive sprockets which are almost 1m in diameter. Managing Director Andrew Fletcher commented “The ferry operation is a very prestigious application of which we are all very proud. All set for change in 2016? Too many manufacturers are still tied to underperforming legacy systems, it’s time to embrace change now! The world of manufacturing is changing; new production techniques, new developments in software and mobile computing are re-writing the rules of the game but still many manufacturers continue to rely on outdated ERP systems—or indeed, no ERP system at all. In order to keep up with this change, manufacturers need to consider how better to embrace software, systems and the internet to run a more streamlined operation. Spreadsheet overflow At ECi we see manufacturers running their businesses with a combination of a basic accounting package and a collection of spreadsheets. They are still doing things the way they did 10 years go. But what seemed simple and straightforward back then has now become a complex and error-prone tangle of disparate systems holding back the business.
Legacy software We still come across companies running relatively unsophisticated ERP systems, long after they should have migrated to something more modern. While a step up from basic accounting systems and spreadsheets, these dated ERP systems also serve as constraints, locking companies into a view of manufacturing and manufacturing technology that often goes back 10 or 15 years, or sometimes even longer.
Vulnerabilities of aging software It’s not difficult to see the drawbacks of continuing to rely on such old systems. Take for example maintenance and support. Even if the original vendor still exists— and many don’t—maintenance and support, if available at all, will be expensive. A currently valid

upgrade path? Don’t even ask. Other business-related drawbacks imposed by aging systems include: • A lack of support for modern supply chain and procurement processes, for instance: web portals, XML data interchange, access to Cloud-based procurement platforms, and so on. • A lack of integration, with specialist third-party Cloudbased ‘line of business’ solutions. Limitations as to how modern computing and communications platforms can be embraced— mobile computing, most obviously, but also such basic building blocks as barcode-based data entry.
A vision for your new ERP system Manufacturers who are new to the notion of ERP tend to focus excessively on their present requirements, and attach little weight to future requirements that might emerge. While understandable—no one wants to pay for features they’re not using—a failure to future-proof can eventually turn out to be both costly and painful. Another potential pitfall is failing to exploit an ERP system to the full, leaving potential savings and benefits on the table. Making sure
that you make best use of your ERP investment is key to its success. Looking at how you can automate your business, transacting through a portal or something as simple as getting buy-in from your workforce, can provide savings and benefits that will extend for years.
ERP needs to pass the test Before embarking on an ERP project, it’s important to take a step back and ask yourself the following: • Is it going to help to automate processes within the business? • Will it help to leverage information and work flow with clear lines of responsibility and accountability? • Will it provide clear visibility into events and issues, prompting users to take action? If the vendor you are talking to can’t say yes to all of the above then it’s time to think again. The team at Ogle printed the shoes using SLS production, which gave a nylon-based print strong enough for walking in and bonded well to the leather upper. This led to an opportunity to produce a one-off 3D printed shoe for Olympic gold medal winning Amy Williams which appeared on the Channel 5 series The Gadget Show.
Ogle has worked with a string of iconic global brands since it was formed back in 1954, and even played a crucial role in the production of Hollywood blockbuster Star Wars. It’s on-screen work continued into 2015 as Ogle were proud to be involved in the latest James Bond film, Spectre.

The system uses dry ice pellets kept at -79ºC, injected into a jet of compressed air, accelerated to speeds in excess of 150 m/s and then fired at the surface to be cleaned. The abrupt cooling of the surface causes a thermal shock and produces fine cracks in the top layer. The dry ice pellets penetrate these cracks and sublimate (turn into a gas without becoming a liquid) instantly, thus lifting the contaminant from the surface, before returning to the atmosphere as CO2 gas leaving only the contaminant behind. Unlike sand blasting, ice blasting keeps surface abrasion to a minimum. As cleaning with dry ice is performed without chemicals or detergents, and leaves no waste water, it is environmentally friendly and can even be used in areas where cleaning with water is prohibited or inconvenient. MK Extend Their Conveyor Range mk Profile Systems have expanded their conveyor range with two more options in their belt conveyor range and an addition to their chain conveyor range. A belt conveyor with metal detector is now available and also a belt conveyor with back lighting. The chain conveyor comes with an immersion bath for applications where an automated cleaning station is required.
Belt Conveyor with Back Lighting mk’s new conveyor with back lighting is ideal for automated production lines that require ongoing visual inspections. The belt allows light to pass through it and illuminate the products which are checked for material faults, position, completeness, or contour abnormalities either by cameras or by the human eye. Using mk’s belt conveyor GUF-P 2000 AC with tall conveyor frame, there is easy side access for the light, regardless of the lighting used. The conveyor is equipped with a light-permeable belt and in the lighting area, the belt running surface consists of a glass panel made from scratch resistant, satin finished tempered glass. This allows light to pass through the running surface and the belt. The separate tension roller in the drive unit makes for easy belt tensioning and adjustment. This back lighting option is available for all standard mk belt conveyors and modules.
Belt Conveyor with Metal Detector mk has designed a belt conveyor with integrated flat-panel metal detector to assist the plastic & wood industries in the use of machines such as granulators, shredders, or chippers to reduce material to smaller fragments. These machines can be severely damaged if the material contains any metal impurities. To prevent such damage, and related production downtime, the material should be checked for metal impurities while being fed in. If any metal is detected, the belt should be stopped and audible and visible warnings should be triggered. The metal detector is installed inside the conveyor body

and it scans piece goods and bulk materials up to a height of 100 mm. If metal is detected the motor is stopped and a connected signalling unit issues a visual and audio warning. A lateral guide stops the material from falling and an additional PE strip located near the metal detector guides the product. The conveyor with metal detector offers huge benefits to mk’s customers as it can detect both magnetic and non-magnetic metals, even if they are enclosed in the product. This in turn prevents machine damage and production downtime. The conveyor can quickly and easily be incorporated into existing systems with the ability to easily adjust the height of the input and output sides to suit installation conditions. This application is also suitable for quality control in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. Chain Conveyor with Immersion Bath m k ’ s automated cleaning station with cleaning bath is shown here as part of an assembly line for metal cyclinders. The cylinders are loaded onto the conveyor by a customer-provided handling unit and conveyed through a cleaning solution where the cylinders are rinsed. Before removal by another handling unit, the cylinders should be cleaned of fluid and contaminants. This solution uses mk’s KTF-P 2040 indexing chain conveyor with product specific mounting V-blocks. The chain travels at an approximately 30° angle and moves the material into the cleaning bath and out again. Adjustable nozzles in the bath thoroughly rinse the conveyed material. The solution can be cleaned and replaced via a circulation pump and filter system. In an enclosed compressed air cleaning station, fluid residues and contamination residues are removed from the conveyed material via flexible nozzles. mk’s complete integrated solution provides chemical resistance due to matched materials and components, and can be provided using the customers own control system or supplied directly from mk. Computer aided engineering the future of electrical design Electrical engineering processes can be effectively streamlined thanks to a new generation of computer aided engineering technology (CAE). Ken Christie, director of EPLAN UK, explains how new software solutions have outstripped traditional CAD packages by shortening project turnaround times and improving accuracy and quality.
Computer aided engineering software is increasingly leaving conventional engineering tools in the dark. CAE improves accuracy and quality by removing the need for time-wasting manual input of data and, on any given design project, allows information to flow between everyone involved – engineers from across all disciplines, all departments, the customer and the product’s maintenance team. In the past, multiple software programmes have been used to automate tasks; for example, a computer-aided design (CAD) package to create graphical schematics and a tablebased Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to create parts lists. The programmes do not share data with each other, necessitating manual data entry and cross referencing. The potential for error was great. Today’s advanced CAE programmes have automated these and many other tasks, saving time and improving quality. Leading the way in the newest generation of CAE tools is EPLAN software which offers a powerful central database that brings together a wide range of information. This database can hold a large archive of recurrent content, ready for insertion into a project with a single keystroke and automates time-consuming processes such as device tagging and wire numbering. Currently the EPLAN Data Portal provides users with access to more then 582,000 components and device data that are controlled and managed by 100 leading industry manufacturers including, Mitsubishi Electric, Omron, Roxtec and Schneider Electric.

emonstrating the innumerable capabilities of its new Profile Series 30 range of aluminium profiles with matching modular elements and fittings, MiniTec UK recently supplied interactive exhibition display cabinets for the National Physical Laboratory’s ‘Super Sight’ stand at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition that explores augmented reality – the placement of computer generated images into the human eye’s view. With its nominal sectional size of 30 x 30 mm which suits smaller structures, the wheeled cabinets allowed the exhibition organisers to customise the information panels for the specific subject matter and MiniTec also provided additional engineered

equipment for a laser enclosure that allow visitors to set the angle for the ‘total internal refraction’ cabinet shown in the attached image. Profile Series 30 aluminium profiles suit smaller machine frames, consoles, panels, fixtures, safety guards and the lightweight range is also particularly suited to structural frames for equipment used in the food and medical industries or for organising component or tool storage in confined areas such as vehicle fit-outs. The new range also lowers the cost base for light-duty machine applications. With eight new profiles in sectional sizes of 23 x 16, 23 x 30, 30 x 30 and 30 x 60 (mm) and with combinations of smooth sides and T slot profiles that maximises flexibility and aesthetic
appearance the range uses a new 30 mm version of MiniTec’s Powerlock rapid one-piece fastening system that requires no pre-drilling of the profile and saves considerable assembly time. Top Level Support for London Infrastructure Shows

ew stand reservations continue to flow in for Infrarail 2016 and the CITE - Civil Infrastructure & Technology Exhibition 2016 next April. Preparations are also continuing for the many activities that will support the two exhibitions, which take place at ExCeL London in the capital’s Docklands from 12 to 14 April, forming the country’s largest infrastructure event in 2016. Infrarail is the UK’s showcase for rail infrastructure technology. Among fields to be covered at the show are track construction and maintenance, signalling and communications, electrification, and installations such as stations and maintenance depots, plus key areas such as recruitment and training, occupational health and security. Sectors represented at CITE 2016 will include civil engineering, construction services and products, plant and equipment, geotechnical, tunnelling, consultancy and project management. These included – the Eco Asia Expo, the Euro Chamber of Commerce Environment Seminar, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the HAESCO Energy Matters Seminar 2015 – regarding energy efficiency in buildings. Tom’s seminars specifically covered how air leakage is measured, the effect of regulations on air leakage in the UK and the impact on energy of reducing air leakage. He also summarised air tightness standards. He explained the history and impact of building regulations from the UK perspective, as there are no standards used in Hong Kong presently. He then explained the standards used to test and assess buildings in Europe today and the resulting energy savings expected.

British manufacturing celebrated at the PPMA Show 2015
As new figures released by the Bank of England reveal British manufacturing has grown in September at the fastest pace since April 2015, Engineering Update looks back at the success of the 2015 exhibition, and reveals the latest on the PPMA Total Show 2016. The PPMA Show 2015 returned to the NEC from 29th September – 1st October, with more than 1,000 leading packaging and processing manufacturers showcasing the latest technological innovations and discussing key business opportunities with more than 7,500 visitors. An opening keynote from Lord Digby Jones, former Minister of State for Trade and Investment, set the tone for the informative seminar sessions which saw prominent figures from across the manufacturing sector take to the stage. Swansea University Engineering student crowned Young Sustainability Champion Swansea University Civil Engineering Masters student, Mousa Dahabreh has been crowned the Sustain Wales Young Sustainability Champion of the year. Cynnal Cymru – Sustain Wales inaugural Sustain Wales Awards ceremony was held at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff with an audience of national and international businesses and champions of sustainability in Wales. The awards were a chance to reward and highlight the great things people and organisations are doing on sustainable development. Cynnal Cymru aims to seek out and praise the best examples of their kind, cross-sector, across Wales. Mousa, aged 22 and originally from Amman in Jordan, came to the UK straight from Jordan to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering at Swansea University in 2011. Mousa said: “I had several options from different Universities worldwide, however Swansea University was one of the most appealing at the time because of its great reputation in Civil Engineering which made it stand out as the best option, in addition to how close it is to the beach. A decision that I am proud of today!” Mousa graduated in 2014 with a First Class Honours degree with most of his academic success from sustainability modules. He decided to carry on and do his MSc in Civil Engineering at Swansea due to his appointment as Vice-Chairman of the Institute of Civil Engineering Graduate

Mousa’s MSc thesis is looking into the effect Building Information Modelling (BIM) will have on sustainability and construction projects after the decision of “Level 2 BIM” is adapted to all public sector projects by March 2016. Mousa hopes that his enthusiasm for sustainability as well as his academic research will one day improve the engineering industry. Speaking about his nomination and his success Mousa said: “I am involved in several Institute of Civil Engineering (ICE) groups and it all happened when I was in one of our meetings and got introduced to the Co Director of Cynnal Cymru – Sustain Wales Group. “The selection process for the awards involved answering several questions and filling in some questionnaires that required some detailed answers. This was then followed by global online voting, where a total of 5000 votes were recorded. “I was one of the three finalists that were shortlisted for the Wales Young Sustainability Champion category. I decided to put my name under Swansea University, which eventually led me to represent the University in the final stages. “It’s a great privilege and an honour to be named the first Wales Young Sustainability Champion. This award will certainly increase my motivation to work towards a more sustainable future both within the engineering sector and in my daily life.” The inaugural Awards ceremony, promises to become a great event in the Welsh calendar. It was an evening of celebration which we hope will be followed by a year of collaboration,

Sensitive about sphere size The standard technique for measuring the sensitivity of food inspection metal detectors is to use metal test spheres. Although this type of spherical testing tool is typically expressed by diameter in millimetres, in the real world metal contaminants are more likely to be non-spherical or an irregular shape. Phil Brown, Sales Director at Fortress Technology explains why spheres are used and why a size detection improvement as little as 0.5mm can dramatically cut the risk of metal fragments entering the production chain. “The rationale for using spheres to ascertain the system’s sensitivity level is because they are the same shape from every aspect when passing through the metal detector,” explains Phil. “Realistically, metal contaminants are more likely to be a piece of swarf, metal shard or narrow wire than a perfectly formed ball. “Furthermore, the signal produced from a wire shape will vary greatly depending on the type of metal it is and on its angle when it passes through the detector. This is known as orientation effect. For example, a stainless steel wire that passes through the aperture upright or sideways generates a higher signal than a straight. In the worst case a wire may produce a signal no bigger than a sphere of the same size as the diameter of the wire.” Metal detector manufacturers naturally use spherical test samples to showcase advances in sensitivity, although visualising what a 50% improvement in metal detection sensitivity actually equates to is challenging. “Our customers express regular confusion and find it difficult to picture what these numbers and percentage improvements really mean in terms of a true contaminant,” says Phil. The relationship between the detection of wire and sphere size is very complex and changes depending on material size, presentation and type. To cut through the confusion the Fortress team complete hands-on demonstrations with customers using soft modelling material. “If you were to roll out a 3.5mm stainless steel metal sphere between your hands - currently the standard Code of Practise for a block of cheese about 75mm high, it could equate to a wire length of 30 cm, depending on the diameter of the wire. Realistically, something of this size is likely to protrude from the product and would be relatively easy to spot with the naked eye. It’s when smaller wires or swarf slivers are embedded into a product where the sensitivity of your metal detector really comes into play.” Putting this into context, Phil says that an improvement in sphere size of 0.5mm can equate to wire length contaminant measuring 2.5cm. The smaller the spherical size, the shorter the wire length. The type of metal contaminant also needs to be factored in. Most detectors will exhibit a different level of sensitivity for the three main groups - ferrous (such as iron or steel), non-ferrous (including copper or brass) and stainless steel. “Because metal detectors work by spotting materials that create a magnetic or electrical disturbance as they pass through an electromagnetic field, stainless steel is typically the most troublesome,” highlights Phil. Widely in food preparation and production areas, stainless steel comes in various grades. Unlike ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel is usually non-magnetic and a poor electrical conductor. Consequently, a sphere of stainless steel hidden in a dry

product typically needs to be 50% larger than a ferrous sphere to generate a similar signal size. This disparity can rise to 300% in wet products, such as ready meals, meat, fish, sauces, preserves and bread, because moisture acts as a conductive and the metal detection signal can be swamped by product effect. The accepted industry threshold for stainless steel sphere size is currently 3.5mm. Fortress, however, can now achieve upward of 2.2mm with its new Interceptor metal detector range. “From a risk management perspective this makes a huge difference and goes a long way to protecting brand reputation,” notes Phil. “Although there are many variables which can affect a metal detector’s performance, including orientation of contaminants, the type of product passing under the detector, product size and the speed of the line. However, machine sensitivity remains a solid and reliable gauge,” he adds.

Test sphere thresholds The food metal detection industry has general sphere size guidance figures and these are based on whether the product being inspected is wet or dry, as well as the overall size of the product. For a wet block of cheese measuring approximately 75mm high, the sphere size parameters would be: • Ferrous - 2.0mm • Non-ferrous - 2.5mm • Stainless steel - 3.5mm

Waterproof connectors Outdoor or wet indoor environments can destroy electronic equipment. The ubiquitous HD15 VGA dsub connector was never intended to withstand contaminants such as water and dust, but client demand for A/V everywhere is carrying such connectors into less tolerant environments. So what connectors can you use for installations in saunas, wet rooms, indoor poolsides, bathrooms, outdoor CCTV and security systems or even super yachts ~ where anything from moisture through to water deluge might be encountered?
I
n the Home Install world, waterproofing of components is arguably the first major add-on to the existing features of an indoor interconnect and it it’s clear that most installers don’t want to reinvent interconnects, they want manufacturers to adapt products that they’re already well used to. Weather-protected, weather-resistant, weatherproof, all-weather, water-resistant, and waterproof. For the systems integrator are these terms interchangeable - or confusing? The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) code can be used to interpret. The ingress protection (or IP) code defined in IEC’s international standard 60529 classifies the level of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects, dust, water, and accidental contact. The first digit of an IEC IP rating indicates the level of protection the enclosure (connector) provides against access to hazardous parts and the ingress of solid foreign objects. The second indicates equipment protection levels inside the enclo-

sure against harmful water ingression. Breaking down an IP67 rating then, the “6” indicates total protection against dust ingress and complete protection against electrical contact. The “7” means protection against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1metre: whilst IP68 and 69 connectors can offer protection against longer periods of immersion under pressure ~ of course this is always dependant upon proper installation following manufacturer’s guidelines, but even then we’re not talking continuous immersion at any great depth, although the UTS Hi seal connector is claimed to ensure stable characteristics on immersion at a depth of 10m and during high-pressure cleaning at up to 140 bar. To achieve IP67 or higher most protected connector designs work on the same principle as the waterproof D-sub connector where the aim has been to reduce the number of components that make up the connector, hence remove all possible leakage paths, and manufacturers have generally added a mounting plate with a silicone
O-ring to create a watertight seal at the panel interface and back potted screw machined contacts to prevent water ingress through the connector body. www.in2connect.uk.com/waterproof-d-connector-ip67 The use of USB, FireWire and HDMI connectors has grown considerably and is no longer limited to just the home entertainment market. These interfaces are being found more and more in audio systems that require computer-based equipment, such as

super yachts and commercial shipping. Entertainment systems on the external decks are one of the greatest sound and lighting challenges on a boat. To offer suitable water resistant solutions connector manufacturers have extended their offerings to encompass D-Subs, RJ45 for Ethernet, USB 2.0, M12 Circular Sensor and Actuator connectors, Fibre Optic LC (ODVA), Firewire and HDMI. Applications will include indoor and outdoor on board cinema, IT, communication, security, lighting and automation systems on luxury motor boats, sailing ships and super yachts; onboard waterproof TVs or on board digital signage and advertising systems for cruise ships, ferries and public service vessels. Basically the discerning yacht owner wants to be as connected at sea as they are in their office so given the huge expense of cabling large yachts and cruise liners, optical fibre cable with its inherent EMC resistance and super wide bandwidth (hence future proofing) is increasingly being used. The pre-terminated patch cables with an over-moulded IP67 Mini USB Type B plug and an over-moulded USB Type-A plug are available in 2mm, 3mm and 5mm lengths. Protective covers are
