Leicester hailed as UK’s most active city for gym visits According to the report, residents in Leicester use the gym eight times a month on average
Residents in Leicester have been named as the most active gym users in the UK, while people in Fulham are the least, according to new research released today (4 January) by Nuffield Health. As the annual rush for gyms to help realise people’s new year resolutions gets underway, the Nuffield Health 2015 Health Report aims to provide an overview of the nation’s health habits. The findings comprise data from thousands of members and non-members across 67 of Nuffield Health’s 77 UK gyms. According to the report, residents in Leicester use the gym eight times a month on average, whereas the average gym user in Fulham averages
only five visits per month. Meanwhile, Swindon residents were found to have the biggest waistlines, with the average woman measuring more than 35 inches and males typically wider than 40 inches. Chester residents had the highest blood pressure readings, Wolverhampton the highest cholesterol and Croydon the highest glucose results, putting them at an increased risk of developing serious, long-term health conditions. Perhaps the most alarming statistic from the report showed that 90 per cent of people who underwent a health assessment admitted to not doing the weekly recommended amount of 150 minutes of moderate exercise. Being physically active has been shown to help treat, prevent or manage 20 lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease.
“We are now living longer than ever before, so to make the most of this we need to take more responsibility for our own health and wellbeing,” said Dr Davina Deniszczyc, Nuffield Health’s recently promoted medical director. “The start of a new year is the perfect time to make changes and just making small adjustments such as reducing your sugar intake or walking more each day can have a positive impact on your life.”
parkrun’s Chrissie Wellington receives Half of all Brits turning to fitness OBE in New Year Honours list apps to beat Christmas Weight Gain Chrissie Wellington, the head of participation at parkrun and fourtime Ironman World Champion, has been named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year Honours list.
Rewarded for her services to sport and charity, Wellington was among 1,196 people on the honours list, with more than three quarters of the recipients people who have undertaken work in their local community.
Wellington starred in the October 2015 edition of Health Club Management, where she talked about her unusual ascent to the top of endurance competitions and her work with parkrun. Founded by Paul SintonHewitt in 2004, parkrun provides free weekly 5km running events around the world and has 800,000 members in the UK alone. As head of participation, Wellington’s role is to help break down potential barriers and to inspire people “to do something they might not otherwise have thought to do.”
On receiving news of her OBE, Wellington tweeted to her 87,000 Twitter followers: “2015 – married the man of my dreams, gave birth to our beautiful daughter and honoured with an OBE. What an amazing year.” She later added: “May my OBE also be dedicated to everyone involved in parkrun ... People who are truly changing lives each and every day.”
Worried you’ve eaten too many mince pies already this Christmas? You aren’t alone it seems, according to a new survey, the UK population is so worried about pilling on the pounds over the holiday season that over 42 per cent of Brits have used a fitness application in the last week. If that wasn’t enough to drive you towards a healthy salad, over half of the UK population believes that wearable tech and fitness apps have helped them care more about their health in general. The survey, carried out by O2, shows that fitness and in particular the urge to don a wearable this Christmas, and beyond, is finally becoming a thing rather than something done and worn by just a select few. Most worry about steps or movement however, the most popular apps revolve around calories. A whopping 60 per cent
of those questioned used their mobile tech to count calories.
Monitoring your fitness and calories is probably going to come in handy over the next couple of weeks. The average Brit consumes around 7,000 calories of food and drink on Christmas day alone from snacking on alcohol, nuts, chocolate and mince pies as well as the traditional turkey dinner. The new research from O2 also goes on to say that 57 per cent of Brits believe that wearable technology and health and fitness apps have helped them to care more about their health in general.
However, it’s not always that easy to find an app people are happy with, or one that does everything they need. Most surveyed admitted to downloading over three different applications in the last year to help support or build a healthier lifestyle.

Cycling Startup’s High-Tech Livestreaming Studio To the untrained eye, Peloton’s flagship studio in Manhattan could seem like just another boutique cycling brand. There’s an an airy cafe, a lounge and retail store, and rows of bikes for locals and tourists who want to take a class in person. But behind-the-scenes, this chic spot is a high-tech hub, where Peloton’s control room operators broadcast live classes to Peloton bike owners and app subscribers around the world. It’s a tech-centered approach to fitness that includes specially-designed bikes with built-in tablets connecting users with on-demand classes, performance metrics, other cyclers and instructors. In addition to six control room technicians, Peloton also employs 45 software engineers to manage the app and livestreaming experience, a team it’s looking to double with its recent funding round of $75 million from private equity firm Catterton. To date, the startup has raised a total of $120 million in funding. Watch this quick video with co-founders John Foley and Yony Feng to learn more about the tech powering this fitness brand’s Peloton’s growth.

Fitness to go mainstream in 2016
The past few years have seen some major trends emerge in the world of fitness – not least the fact that, generally speaking, we’re getting more and more into it. The days of merely ticking a box with an exercise class, or a few weekly sessions in the gym to tone up and keep trim are, for many, long gone. We now want – and get – so much more from our fitness regimes.
What’s it doing for us? How can we improve – and is there a gadget that’ll help us record that improvement? Will it make us stronger, but also more calm, happy and motivated? Is there a sportive we can sign up and train for? And we don’t just want to participate – we want to read about our chosen disciplines, buy the gear, and share and compare on social media too. Having a keen interest in fitness is, of course, nothing new. What is new is how ensconced it’s become in the mainstream. You no longer have to work in the industry, or be pro or semi-pro, to want to take your exercise seriously and seek to understand its mechanics; everybody can – and you no longer have to subscribe to specialist magazines to read about it; it’s right here in the features pages of The Irish News! Here’s a quick look at how some of these key trends are forecasted to develop in 2016... MIND IS THE MATTER
While there’s still a way to go with mental health awareness, we are talking about mental health more now than in previous decades – and we’re increasingly aware that looking after ourselves is as much about managing stress and keeping our minds healthy as it is about getting our allimportant five-a-day and not smoking.
Much research has found that exercise can have similar – and indeed sometimes even more effective – results than antidepressant drugs, including a Harvard review of studies dating back to 1981 which concluded that regular exercise can improve mood in those with mild to moderate depression, and also play a role in the treatment of major clinical depression.
Most people I know who see exercise as a crucial part of their lives cite ‘stress-relief’ as one of its key benefits. Getting our heart rates up and flooding our veins with oxygen triggers chemical reactions that offset the strain and exhaustion of our demanding worlds, not only helping us feel more in control and grounded, but also serving as a reminder that there’s more to life. “Over the last year, we’ve seen an increasingly conscious approach to exercise develop, as our knowledge of our body grows. 2016 will take this further, as it becomes not just about the body but the mind,” says James Trevorrow, product innovation manager at Virgin Active.
“This consciousness will continue to develop
further as we increasingly link the way we exercise and the positive effect it has on our mind, utilising it to raise endorphins and help us find a balance in our busy day-today lives.” CHASING ZEN
As well as being a general factor across all exercise disciplines, ‘mindful fitness’ is growing in more targeted ways too, specifically with the continually growing popularity of the likes of yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi-type classes, where calm, focus and deep breathing play central roles, and for many people are the number one appeal of participating.
“Yoga has become a perennial player in the trend lists and its massive range of different style, alongside its continuous results in participants means it is staying in the top list and going nowhere,” says celebrity trainer Matt Roberts, whose clients include David Cameron (mattroberts.co.uk). CHALLENGING TIMES
Alongside this, our thirst for adrenalin and escapism through exercise also looks like it knows no bounds, as more and more of us sign up to personal challenges. Goalposts are forever being stretched as well – these days, as well as knowing somebody training for their first marathon, there’s a high chance somebody among your friends, acquaintances or colleagues will be ticking off an ultra, too. “Life is about testing yourself and pushing your own limits,” says Kenton Cool, who climbed Everest for the 11th time in 2013. “We are starting to see this challenge mentality become part of our approach to exercise, how much we actually know our own bodies and how far can we push ourselves.”
It’s not just about achieving ever-more challenging targets, though; the escapism plays a key part too, wanting to be more well-rounded people with multiple interests and skills, whose lives and identities no longer revolve so disproportionately around work and income. SHOW ME THE RESULTS
Just like people, lifestyle trends can be full of contradictions, and as our appetite for mindfulness and a return to simpler joys grows, so too does our taste for fast results, and the tech to measure them with.
A big example of this is the relatively recent trend for high-intensity interval training [HIIT], something that’s now incorporated across countless workout classes and disciplines, with short super high-intensity bursts interspersed with short recovery periods. These workouts tend to be fast, and promise fast results too, which, in research
trials at least, also deliver.
“[HIIT] has stayed popular because those people who are into their training like the hard, high-intensity, barrier-pushing appeal, while for those who are less exerciseinclined, it offers a solution that doesn’t eat up too much time but does produce good results,” says Roberts. “There will always be concerns about the safety of true high-intensity training for certain individuals but, as always, provided the individual is generally in good health then the approach is fantastic for many different goals and outcomes.”
Scott MacKenzie of Fitness First notes that gym-goers are continually looking to “ramp up the intensity of their workouts”. Furthermore, the EPOC [Excess postexercise oxygen consumption] effect associated with this style of training means you continue to burn calories much quicker, up to 48 hours after the workout, he adds. Our results-driven thinking is also reflected in the ongoing trend for wearable tech, apps and activity tracking gadgets like Fitbits and Jawbone. While in terms of research, the jury’s out on the true extent of their long-term effectiveness, and if you do some digging, you’ll find there’s some mixed evidence as to whether more expensive gadgets actually garner ‘better’ results for users, the trend for ‘smart training’ is still gathering pace. “This has been gradually growing for around the last five years. It takes a while for any technology to become normal and accepted... But look around you now,” says Roberts.
“There are devices to wear on your wrist, chest and head to track your body; devices built into golf clubs, tennis rackets, bicycles and footballs that track all sorts of sports data, and there are, of course, multiple sensors built into your phone that you carry around with you every minute of every day, collecting data whether you asked for it or not. “The difference now is that there are great apps that are delivering the information back in a clear, acceptable and simple enough way to make it interesting and useful.”

Advertiser’s Announcement
Giving your gym a new look can be much cheaper than you think AS you can see in the photos, simply changing the upholstery in your gym will dramatically improve the look, not only of your equipment, but of your club too. And it’s easier than you might think. Gone are the days of taking your own pads off and taking them to a local upholsterer to be recovered in a mismatched fabric, leaving machines out of action for days or even weeks on end, or even ordering expensive replacements from the manufacturer, waiting for them to be delivered and then paying someone to fit them or messing around fitting them yourself. Thanks to the guys at Gym Wizard all it takes now is a quick phone call and you can let them do the rest. You might not think much when a van pulls up at your club, until you see what’s in the back. A fully kitted out upholstery workshop with sewing machines, staple guns, a trimming bench and a lot of rolls of fabric. Wood and woodworking tools and sheets of foam for those pads that that are a little worse for wear. Basically, everything required for professional upholstery work. The guys take the pads that require
attention from a couple of your machines at a time, and in their place leave a polite, professional looking sign informing your customers that you are renewing the upholstery and the machines will be ready to use again very soon. And it really is quick. The guys take the pads outside and into their mobile workshop and within half an hour or so, the pads are back on the machines and the next batch are being removed for the same treatment. A typical gym can be fully recovered within the day for about the same as it costs you to replace a deck and belt on two of your treadmills. Not bad when you think about it – nobody notices what you spend on maintenance but they can’t help but notice this. Don’t be thinking you need to be getting your full gym upholstered for them to come out to you either. They’re just as happy to come out and recover a handful of pads and can easily match them up to your existing upholstery colour. Gym Wizard was set up seven years ago after realising the need for a dedicated, hassle free upholstery service
and have over 25 years’ experience in the fitness industry, so it’s safe to say they know what they are talking about. Their customer portfolio speaks volumes. From the very smallest personal trainers and private
clubs right up to the biggest chains, prisons and county councils, even the major manufacturers themselves. For more information visit www.gym-wizard.com or call 0700 3400 335

The PainPod: advanced TENS & EMS technology for pain relief, performance enhancement & fast recovery
Before the introduction of medicinal painkillers, the use of electric currents to stimulate nerves was one of the primary treatments for pain. Once painkillers hit the market, the crude electrotherapy units were flushed out due to the ease of use. It wasn’t until the 1970’s that TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) technology was refined and reintroduced to the general public as a method for treating pain. Unfortunately in today’s day and age, the medicinal painkillers that once reigned would barely have an effect. Humankind’s tolerance for over-the-counter and prescription painkillers has sky-rocketed through generations of use and in some cases, abuse. To provide a drug-free alternative to this epidemic, the team at PainPod developed an advanced TENS device for pain reduction with added EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) technology to aid muscle recovery and enhance performance. How does the PainPod relieve pain? The advanced TENS frequencies used in PainPod technology have been tested and medically isolated by PainPod for optimal pain relief. The treatment works by sending gentle, electrical impulses through the nerves of the body. These pulses interfere with and block pain messages from being sent to the brain which then temporarily (in some cases permanently) provides pain relief. PainPod devices can be used on the lower back, arms, legs, stomach, feet, shoulders - virtually any area of the body that is suffering from pain. How can does the PainPod enhance performance and assist with muscle recovery? Strength is not gained during exercise, but while the body is in the rehabilitation phase. In order to strengthen the muscle, the body must repair itself from the strain of exercise. Effective recovery means greater performance and lowered likelihood of injury relapse. “By combining TENS and EMS Bio technology, PainPod is able to stimulate muscles for improved recovery and development,” says Rick Rowan, the CEO of PainPod UK. “PainPod also manages sports injuries or post workout pain by delivering fast, medication-free pain relief, anywhere, anytime.”

Are you among the growing community of fitness members in the UK? According to the Leisure Data Base, almost 14% of the UK population are members of public gyms or private health and fitness clubs. That is a record number of fitness members, exceeding 1.5 million UK residents. Get better results from your exercise routine, fast. The PainPod has a number of treatment types including acupuncture, massage and fat burning modes. How clean and hygienic are your facilities?
UK gym-goers are not too ‘clean-living’ according to Initial Washroom Hygiene who revealed from a recent gym bag study that 60% of gym bags carry high levels* of bacterial contamination. Swab tests carried out found that more than one in three (35%) bags harboured coliform bacteria on the handle. These bacteria are typical indicators of poor hygiene and, outside the body are predominantly found in faecal matter. Any presence of coliform bacteria carries a significant threat of illness and cross contamination, yet the dirtiest bag within the test contained seven times the acceptable level of coliform counts. Bags made of leather were found to hold more bacteria than those made of canvas or nylon - the spongy surface texture of leather providing the perfect conditions for bacteria to live and grow. With bags designed to be carried and handled by their owners, and research estimating that 80% of all infections are transmitted by hands, thorough washing and hygiene practices are crucial in combatting the spread of bacteria. This is especially true in busy gym environments, which typically have high footfall, multiple touch-points and warm conditions. Interestingly, tests also revealed that bags belonging to females were just as likely to have high levels of bacteria as those belonging to males (64% vs. 61% respectively). Dr Peter Barratt, technical manager, Initial Washroom Hygiene, said: “Gym bags are portable - we take them with us into our homes, places of work, in our cars, and on public transport. If they become contaminated, their potential for accumulating and transferring bacteria and virus particles is significant. Our study demonstrates how relevant the provision of easily accessible hand washing facilities and hand sanitisers is in gyms, to help prevent cross contamination between members. It’s also down to individuals to take responsibility for their own hand hygiene by following correct handwashing guidelines: between 20 and 30 seconds is the recommended time for thorough hand washing. This is one of the tips we give school children because if we can make hand washing and sanitising a habit at an early age, we’ll all be a little better off. As well as keeping yourself fit in the gym, it’s important to remember to stay healthy at the same time.” *‘High levels’ are defined as any sample containing an ATP (adenosine triphosphate) reading of 500 Relative Light Units or above using the Hygiena SystemSure process on either the handle or inside of the bag.

The Perfect
Pre Workout for Weights Coffee.
There is a lot of evidence that coffee can increase the fat burning effect of exercise. Caffeine may help the body mobilize fatty acids from the cells to be used as an energy source rather than glucose. Caffeine is also a strong stimulant & can stimulate a higher workout capacity increasing motivation and intensity of a workout. Be cautious with coffee or ‘diet’ protein products after a workout though. If they contain caffeine and you are consuming them post workout it will delay recovery & increase cortisol production (the stress hormone), slowing down your fat loss or muscle gaining efforts.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a form of medium chain triglyceride (MCT) & unlike other fats it is processed in the liver and used for immediate energy within the muscle, not stored like other fats. MCT oil is used in the body almost like a carbohydrate but without the spike in insulin. Using sugars and starches as a preworkout for a weight training session can be a poor choice as your body’s natural reaction to this is to dump serotonin into the blood, which is great for sending you to sleep. You may realize this now as the reason why you feel tired at the beginning of your workout.
Branched chain amino acids: BCAAs
When you train with weights your body will break down muscle protein to access its amino acids to use as a form of energy. Three of the essential amino acids are also known as branch chain amino acids, they are lysine, leucine and valine. Now what is unique about these three amino acids compared to the others is that they do not need to be broken down in the liver they can be broken down in the muscle to be used as energy. Therefore supplementing with BCAAs before or during your workout will actually inhibit muscle breakdown and supply you with an energy source whilst training and also allow you to spare your hard earned muscle from previous workouts and get bigger even faster.

Hand & Handle Wipe Station Patrons will take notice of this bright free standing dispenser when they enter a gym or fitness club. The Wet Wipe Station combines a wet wipe dispenser and bin in one unit. Solid, rotationally molded plastic makes this a perfect receptacle for high-traffic areas and can be moved easily to anywhere in the gym. Designed for heavy use and handling but light enough to carry, it is also very easy to load and empty. It is almost impossible to keep all machines and weights clean all the time as each piece of equipment is only as clean as the last user. By providing your members with a wipe station placed at convenient locations it gives the option to clean and sanitise any piece of equipment before use and at very little cost. The Wet Wipe Dispenser holds rolls of up to 1,000 Anti bacterial wipes. The Hand & Handle wipes are suitable for use on all hard surfaces including screens and will clean and disinfect common gym surfaces without any tearing. The wipes are also sensitive enough to use on hands. The Hand and Handle dispenser can be branded with a gym’s name and logo and can be manufactured in a wide range of colours. Matteo Thun designs new village HQ for Davines Group to be a 'home of sustainable beauty' Italian architects Matteo Thun and Luca Colombo have designed a verdant new village in Parma, Italy to house the new headquarters of hair and skincare brand Davines Group. Spread over 11,000sq m (118,400sq ft), Davines Village will feature a skin bar where visitors can try the brand’s Comfort Zone range of products, education zones for hairdressers to train, and the company’s development laboratories, all set around a luminous glasshouse and biodiversity gardens. The architects, who work together as part of the MTLC firm, have envisioned a village inspired by classical Italian farmhouses. “The site will be a contemporary interpretation of traditional forms and patterns and gabled roofs,” said the Davines Group in a statement. “Cubic spaces gathering around a central courtyard will be at the
the heart of the village. The distinct sense of beauty, professional values and mission of Davines will be symbolised by the architectural concept. It will be a home of sustainable beauty.” The group said the project is being designed to meet high standards of environmental and ethical sustainability and wellness. Speaking exclusively to CLAD in the latest issue of CLADmag, Thun claimed that these aspects of architecture can no longer be ignored. “We think that every architect and designer should aim for innovation, save resources and energy, take cost engineering seriously and think about how to dismantle a building or how to dispose of an object while designing it,” he said. Construction work on the project has now begun, with completion of the whole village scheduled for mid-2017. Thun recently completed work on the refurbishment of the newlyopened JW Marriott in Venice, located on a private island, featuring 250 guestrooms and a 1,715sq m (18,460sq ft) GOCO Spa.

Stunning 230-year-old hilltop Rajasthan Fort to become Alila heritage resort Commune Hotels & Resorts will open a heritage property in India next year, the Alila Fort Bishangarh, which will launch in Q4 following the restoration of the 230-year-old Rajasthan Fort.
Positioned on a granite hill in the Arvalli Mountain Range with spectacular 360-degree views, the warrior fort is thought to be the only one of its kind to be converted into a heritage resort. It is a unique example of the Jaipur Gharana architecture, influenced by both the Mughals and the British. The original fort will remain intact, and the company said it is being careful with the ecological restoration and reconstruction of new residential areas to recreate the courtly flavour of Shapura’s royalty. The fort features two-meter thick walls with openings for firearms, as well as turrets, known as burjs. A new structure is also being created above and outside the old for to house five styles of royal suites as well as the public areas. The all-suite resort will feature 59 suites, two restaurants, a bar and cigar room, wine cellar and library, as well as a Spa Alila located on the upper floor of the fort. The spa will include four indoor treatment suites as well as two garden treatment
suites, and will feature contemporary interior design and Indian and Southeast Asian treatments. Down the hill, there will be a pool, fitness centre and Play Soldiers Club for children. Alila is also opening three hotels in China in 2016, as well as locations in Cambodia and Jakarta, Indonesia.
Fairmont to open in Morocco in 2019 Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will develop a new luxury hotel in Morocco, the Fairmont La Marina Rabat-Salé. The 200-bedroom hotel, set to open in 2019, will be located in La Marina Morocco, a coastal mixed-use development located between Rabat and the ancient city of Salé.
“We are extremely excited to be entering a destination as beautiful and culturally rich as Morocco, and more specifically the diplomatic and business hub that is the country’s capital,” said Jennifer Fox, president, FRHI International and Fairmont Brand. “With its remarkable architecture, historic sites and emerging culinary scene, it’s a hidden travel gem that captures the spirit of the country unlike any other in Morocco.” Fairmont La Marina Rabat-Salé will be situated on the Bouregreg river-mouth with triple water frontage of marina, river and ocean. Close to key heritage sites in Rabat such as Kasbat Oudayas and Tour Hassan as well as being close to the Hassan district, the project offers uninterrupted views over the Atlantic Ocean from the north and Bouregreg River and The Mausoleum of Mohammed V from the south. Accommodations will also include approximately 90 Fairmont branded residences, as well as a Fairmont Spa and fitness facilities. Spa details are not yet available. The project is part of the rejuvenation of the historical area of the Valley of Bouregreg and is being developed by Eagle Hills, an Abu Dhabi-based company specialized in the development, creation and reinvigoration of urban centers. The company currently has major developments ongoing in Morocco, Bahrain, Jordan, Nigeria and Serbia.
“This partnership with Fairmont provides another element to the vibrant experience and luxurious environment we are seeking to create for our guests and residents. La Marina Morocco promises to be an exciting venture, providing economic stimulus to the area and offering a unique hospitality experience,” said M’hammed El Merini, general manager of Eagle Hills Morocco Properties.

THE EVOLUTION OF
THE HAIRDRESSING GOWN Finding a product that is truly beneficial and innovative in the Hairdressing industry can be rare. This is why we should get excited when that rarity comes along, a unique product that performs as it’s supposed to. It’s an age old problem, stray hairs and their tendency to creep down your client’s back). Well NeoCape have created a range of lightweight cutting capes, gowns and collars that actually do justwhat every other gown or collar fails to do. Already a favourite among early adaptors in barbering circles with the likes of Sid Sottung, Alan Beak and Kevin Vorley using the products, NeoCape is now beginning to make waves in Salons as well. All three styles incorporate a soft and supple Neoprene collar, creating a comfortable seal against the skin that prevents hair and liquids from going down the neck. THE UNIQUE COLLAR
The gowns look, feel and perform differently: the unique collar with its smooth Neoprene is comfortable yet reliable. The six adjustment poppers combined with the flexible Neoprene means the gowns fit easily and comfortably around both small and large necks. The full length Unigown is the classic gown, perfect for both barbers and salons. Made of a lightweight fabric, the Unigown is extremely comfortable to wear and replaces a standard hairdressing gown. It also comes in two great colours: the ever popular and original black, plus a new stylish white. As you would expect the white fabric reflects the light well, optimising visibility for detailed work. The Wash & Colour Cape protects your client’s skin and clothes while you are tinting, washing or applying
cosmetics. Made of a polyurethane coated fabric and incorporating the comfortable neoprene collar, the durable Wash and Colour Cape is water, bleach and tint proof. These capes provide a cost effective alternative to harsh PVC and disposable chemical capes. This is a great way to reduce your reliance on consumables and excess towels. The Hair Stop Collar prevents hair or liquids going down your client’s neck and compliments your existing gowns. When placed over your current gowns or capes the collar allows for a more enjoyable haircut. This lightweight and gentle collar has a premium feel and is an ideal addition to your professional equipment. A BETTER EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR CLIENTS: • No more hair and liquids down the back of the neck.
• Soft and comfortable feel to the collar. • Protection against colouring and bleach with our waterproof Wash and Colour Cape. • Provides greater satisfaction for your clients during and after their cut. AND GREAT FOR YOUR BUSINESS: • Looks amazing both on your customers and in your premises.

100% GOODNESS WITH GOOD JUJU BAR Good Juju Bar offers juices, raw food puddings and main dishes to the public that are all entirely vegan and gluten free. Products are completely derived from fruits and vegetables to maximize nutritional intake. In today’s day and age, many businesses in the food industry are positioning themselves as health conscious, yet products they sell that are supposedly high in nutrients actually contain artificial ingredients and sugars that mislead customers. Good Juju Bar was founded upon the belief that people should have fresh and healthy food that is truly 100% pure. What started as a popup store on Shoreditch High Street in London turned into a popular Detox Plan Delivery Service as word caught on about Good Juju Bar’s quality products and the effectiveness of the brand’s popular detox boxes. People are living busy lives and eating healthy can be difficult on the go, so Good Juju Bar is committed
to providing healthy products to consumers that are high in vitamins and nutrients. The brand creates products inspired by “nutrition freaks and Reiki master-types” that offer jam-packed nutrients on the go in delicious flavours. The puddings are one of the most popular items that The Good Juju Bar offers, as the detoxes replenish the body and flush toxins while boosting energy levels with natural ingredients. By consuming only fruits and vegetables, the body will thrive. Processed foods take a negative effect on health, so detoxing gives people a fresh new start to a healthy diet. Good Juju Bar offers several detox plans depending upon a customer’s needs, to help get their health on the right track. Cold pressed juices included in the plan contain high concentrations of nutrients and provide five times more vitamins, minerals, nutrients than normal juices. Good Juju Bar does not add any additives or preservatives to juices to ensure purity and freshness. Due to overwhelming success in London among the healthy lifestyle crowd, Good Juju Bar is looking to expand the brand to larger markets in order reach larger groups of people and spread health and nutrition that can normally be difficult to find.

USA: Ban on microplastic beans in rinsed-off cosmetics
On Monday, December 28, 2015, President Obama signed into law the bill H.R. 1321 phasing out the production and sale in the USA of rinsed-off cosmetic products containing plastic microbeads.
The Microbead-Free Waters Act of 2015 prohibits “the manufacture and introduction into interstate commerce of rinse-off cosmetics containing intentionally-added plastic microbeads.”
The Bill (H.R. 1321) was co-sponsored by both Republican and Democrat congressmen and passed the U.S. House on December 7 and the Senate on December 18, 2015.
According to the law, the term “plastic microbeads” means “any solid plastic particle that is less than five millimetres in size and is intended to be used to exfoliate or cleanse the
human body or any part thereof.” The text also includes toothpastes within the rinse-off cosmetic category concerned by the ban. The new law will phase microbeads out of consumer products over the next few years, starting with a ban on manufacturing the beads beginning on the July 1, 2017, followed by the ban on sales on July 1, 2018. However, in the case of a rinse-off cosmetic that is also a non-prescription drug, the ban on manufacturing will begin on July 1, 2018, and the ban on sale on July 1, 2019. The Personal Care Products Council applauded the new law “which creates a planned and pragmatic national phase-out process in the interest of both consumers and the industry.”
Legislations prohibiting microbeads particles in cosmetic products were already passed in several U.S. States. The new law “is aimed at the proliferation of conflicting state and local restrictions that create unnecessary disruption and confusion for both consumers and companies,” said Lezlee Westine, President and CEO of the Personal Care Products Council. The persistence of plastic debris in the marine environment and waterways is an issue of increasing public debate. In Europe, Cosmetics Europe, the European personal care association has issued recommendation to discontinue their use in wash off cosmetic and personal care products as of 2020.
Naturex extracts plants’ most precious molecules Naturex unveils Eutectys, the first-ever collection of botanical extracts based on Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NaDES). For this world premiere, the French manufacturer of botanical extracts partnered with Scionix Ltd, a Joint Venture specializing in the industrial use of a novel class of solvent systems. The new Eutectys collection will be launched at the Cosmetagora tradeshow, which will be held on 12-13 January 2016 in Paris. This new generation of botanical extracts is based on a patented extraction process called Eutectigenesis. This new technology allows extracting active compounds synthesized at the very core of the plant cell. These metabolites, which are not always fully soluble in water or in lipid phases, are stored and transported by plants in a third type of liquid phase, the so-called natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES).
According to Naturex, “this breakthrough eco-extraction technology offers a natural alternative to conventional solvents and makes it possible to capture the plant cell’s most precious metabolites, in order to obtain biomimetic extracts with augmented phytoactive profiles and improved performance.”
The Eutectys collection is composed of six high-definition extracts including, among others, olive leaf, saffron flower, and horsetail, all well-known for their restoring and anti-ageing properties, and available for skin and hair formulations. “Nature-inspired products have been setting the trend over the last few years as cosmetic formulators are constantly looking to expand the category in a sustainable way. NaDES are an innovative way to answer market demand,” explains Naturex.
For this world premiere, Naturex has signed a partnership with Scionix, a company responsible for marketing the new solvent systems developed by Professor Andrew Abbott and his research group from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, who pioneering research on deep eutectic solvents. In addition to this licensing agreement on the patents granted to Professor Abbott and his team, Naturex and Scionix will join forces on fundamental and applied research in the field.
“The use of deep eutectic solvents holds huge potential for the cosmetic category as well as numerous other industries. We are convinced that this technology is a game-changing innovation, and these joint research efforts in collaboration with the team that discovered NaDES technology will ensure rapid and successful results,” says Antoine Bily, Naturex’s Head of Research & Development.
