Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Select Revinate to Improve Guest Satisfaction Revinate today announced that Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc (M&C) has selected Revinate’s SaaS solution for online reputation management across its global portfolio of hotels. M&C will be adopting Revinate’s Online Reputation Management Solution at both the corporate and property levels, emphasizing the hotel group’s commitment to maximizing guest satisfaction, whilst driving new bookings and revenue. Nayan Peshkar, M&C’s Vice President for Revenue Management & E-commerce, said, “We selected Revinate after an in-depth evaluation process. The critical deciding factors were, first, whether it could help us to continually improve guest satisfaction, which is a vital target in an increasingly competitive hospitality market. Second, we were looking for a service supplier that could help us leverage customer satisfaction information to drive sales. Our evaluation concluded that Revinate had the
experience, global reach and approach necessary to help us achieve these objectives.” M&C has recently upgraded many of its customer facing systems and processes, introducing new CRS technology, and enhancing its website branding and functionality. Revinate’s appointment signals a further step in the company’s rapid digital development, strengthening its capability to monitor, capture and most importantly act upon guest satisfaction data across the properties. Adarsh Rangaswamy, M&C’s Digital Marketing Manager, added, “Revinate’s platform works for us on multiple levels. From the group perspective it provides visibility and comparison metrics for all of our properties in aggregate or grouped by brand or region, whilst at the hotel level, operating staff will be able to engage directly with guests to provide that unique experience, based on a thorough understanding of all guest feedback.”
Maarten Plesman, Revinate’s VP of EMEA said, “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the world-renowned brand M&C. Due to the immediate impact of guest feedback and the regional nuances around social media best practices, hotel groups are challenged in their ability to provide the best possible service to demanding guests. To help them, we deliver the insights to engage with their guests in the most meaningful way. All this is available around the clock to hotels anywhere in the world through our global network of offices, worldclass SaaS platform and 24/7 support. It’s nice to once again see confirmation of our qualification to serve the most aspiring brands and hotel groups.” Contact: Thomas Landen Marketing Manager EMEA Revinate, Inc. Final bids called for Surrey hotel
Hotelier & Hotel Design
Global Property Advisors Colliers International is seeking best and final offers in the region of £2 million, for the freehold interest, of the Farnham House Hotel in Surrey, with a deadline of 30th January 2015.
8
Set in 4 acres of secluded grounds, the hotel comprises 24 en suite letting bedrooms (including two suites), two conference and banqueting rooms, a restaurant and bar. The sale also includes a five bedroom staff house located within the grounds. Paul Barrasford, Director of Hotels Agency, Colliers International, said “The business continues to trade well and the hotel is to be sold on a fully open and trading basis. This stunning property is a long established and popular wedding venue with an excellent team of staff. The trading performance remains very strong as it has done for many years.
There is also clear scope for a new owner to further capitalise on the hotel’s significant trading potential.” Farnham House is one the last remaining units to be sold from the Hollybourne Hotels portfolio. The call for final bids on Farnham House Hotel follows the recent sale of three other hotels in the portfolio with a fourth currently under offer.
News Starwood Capital Group Buys Portfolio Of Hotels And Residential Complex In London
Praise for new historic lighting at the Tower of London
Starwood Capital Group, a leading global private investment firm, announced today that a controlled affiliate has acquired a portfolio of four extended-stay hotels and one residential complex in London for £206 million ($312 million). The hotel properties are located in two of London’s top emerging submarkets: Tower Bridge/Bermondsey and Earls Court/Kensington. The hotels, which were constructed in 2008 but are currently unfinished and partially operational, will comprise nearly 650 units upon completion. The units feature apartment-like amenities including full kitchenettes, living and dining rooms, and washer/dryers. In addition, the hotels will offer over 25,000 square feet of commercial and office space, including many new guest amenities such as social lobbies, lounges and gyms.
“We are excited to establish ourselves as a leading player in the extended-stay hotel/serviced apartment market, which we believe is one of the most promising and undersupplied real estate sectors in London today,” said Cody Bradshaw, Senior Vice President and Head of European Hotels at Starwood Capital Group. “This successful offmarket acquisition of a unique portfolio of London real estate reflects Starwood Capital Group’s ability to structure and execute win-win solutions in even the most complex of situations.” Building on a well-established relationship, Starwood Capital Group purchased the portfolio following completion of an administration and company voluntary arrangement process led by Ireland’s National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) and Duff & Phelps. Starwood Capital Group in August 2013 acquired a non-performing loan portfolio from NAMA secured by 39 properties, with a concentration in Dublin. Starwood Capital Group is a private investment firm with a core focus on global real estate. Headquartered in Greenwich, CT, the Firm maintains 12 offices in six countries around the world. Starwood Capital Group has raised more than $30 billion of equity capital since its inception in 1991, and currently manages over $38 billion in assets. The Firm has invested in virtually every class of real estate on a global basis, opportunistically shifting geographies and changing positions in the capital stack as risk-reward dynamics evolve. For more than two decades, Starwood Capital Group and its affiliates have successfully executed an investment strategy that involves building enterprises around real estate portfolios in both the private and public markets.
The Royal Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London is an historically important place of worship that is also visited by many tourists. Recently a refurbishment programme was completed. A key element of this project was improving the chapel’s lighting - important not only for its practical and its aesthetic qualities, but to reduce energy usage too. Heritage lighting specialist Dernier & Hamlyn, working with lighting designer Bruce Kirk of Light Perceptions, produced nine chandeliers that were carefully designed, engineered and manufactured to meet all of the requirements. They were commissioned by Tracy Simmons Conservation Building Surveyor at Historic Royal Palaces, the independent charity which cares for the Tower of London. The design concept for the chandeliers made reference to the shape of the chapel’s arched windows and they were produced in Dernier & Hamlyn’s London factory in brass and hand finished in bronze and gilt. This project brought with it unique challenges that had to be overcome in order to provide adequate light levels and design integrity while optimising historically important features. For example, the Chapel’s beams were part of the original fabric of this Tudor building. The four large chandeliers positioned in the main nave of the chapel required support cradles to be fixed to these beams. This needed to be done in a way that allowed the energy efficient LED lamps to highlight important architectural features without damaging the ancient timbers. Dernier & Hamlyn designed the support cradles to fix around these beams, working with existing fixing holes to ensure this was achieved and positioned the LED lamps so that their effect was maximised throughout the chapel.

The residential complex, which will include in excess of 60 upscale units upon completion, will offer residents direct access to the renowned bars, restaurants and shopping on Bermondsey Street, along with a number of underground parking spaces and over 15,000 square feet of commercial space.

To this end the business has evolved to become a leading supplier of high performance faux leathers and upholstery fabrics to the Hospitality and Leisure sectors. All soft fabrics are supplied with an impervious, stain resistant finish thereby helping to maintain the appearance of the fabric, assist with maintenance and improve the longevity of the furniture. The Agua collections are being widely used within the major Hotel groups and Independents on headboards, bedroom seating, conference rooms, restaurants, public spaces, spas and outdoor areas. There are a further 64 options across the Mystique, Vistas and Ocular collections offering metallic and embossed patterns to cater for the more inventive design schemes.

Be inspired by light at Light School Located within Surface Design Show 2015 For the second year running, Light School will be holding true to its school motto: Inspired by Light, giving its ‘students’ inspiration and ideas on how to use light within spaces and buildings. Hosted within Surface Design Show, at London’s Business Design Centre between 10-12 February 2015 and presented by Light Collective and the Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) is Light School an area dedicated to lighting. Light and surface are inseparable partners; the interplay between light and surface can change a building’s interior or exterior dramatically creating breath-taking results. Light School consists of three parts: The School Room, Product School and the School Newspaper all of which are designed to educate and inspire visitors about the latest in lighting design and lighting products.
Light School & the School Room: The aim of Light School is to provide architects and designers with education and knowledge about lighting design and lighting products. The inherent connection between light and surface is addressed providing a platform for the lighting design community to talk to other design sectors. Sponsored by iGuzzini, there will be more than two days of lessons in the School Room featuring hands-on demos with top UK lighting designers who will be taking on the role of lecturers. The lecture programme includes amongst others Carl Gardner - Lighting for Landscapes; Jeff Shaw – Light & Day; Sally Storey – Hotel Lighting in all Shapes & Sizes; Paul Nulty – Saving the High Street and Doug James – Light & Surfaces.
Product School: Product School provides architects and designers with a comprehensive review of lighting innovation and interesting technology. Visitors can come to touch, compare and learn about products and services. Product School is made up of contributions from the Friends of Light School who consist of Applelec, Atrium, Spectral, WILA, ANOLIS, Commercial Lighting Systems, Concord, Deltalight, LED Linear, Atrium, iGuzzini, Louis Poulsen, Optelma and Radiant along with the Institution of Lighting Professionals. As well as supporting the education programme, the Friends of Light School will be setting up their own demo spaces to ensure that everyone can experience the unique and ground-breaking

TLJ Connect has arrived!
Offline or standalone card systems can be a cost effective way of securing rooms. Although, for large buildings, it can be frustrating having to visit individual locks to manually retrieve records or cancel lost cards. Online card systems on the other hand, can be managed from a central location. However, they come with one glaring caveat. Cost. Every door needs an online lock installed for the system to work. With that in mind, we have developed a rather innovative system, TLJ Connect. Essentially, we marry online and offline card systems, so instead of having to install an online system on every door, we create online hotspots on access doors. Any changes you make centrally, such as cancelling cards or updating access times, are sent to these hotspots. The cards then work as storage devices, downloading and uploading data every time the hotspot is used. As the card is used on individual locks, the information is passed across. Like online card systems, you’ll have access to all of the functionality centrally, at a fraction of the cost. To learn more about how TLJ Connect can work for your business, call our sales team on 01482 830334.

Design Having experienced the luxurious showers of hotel wetrooms, consumers are demanding the look and feel of a boutique hotel in their own homes. But how do you create the perfect wetroom? A perfect wetroom can be achieved by addressing three fundamental components of wetroom design: Gradients, Drainage & Waterproofing. Each of these elements, which are hidden under the tiles of a wetroom, are key to achieving a 100% watertight wetroom and peace of mind for the homeowner. Wetroom gradients are created by installing floor formers within the timber floor joists. These floor formers or “decs” have a built in gradient which ensures water is directed towards the drain. In solid floors, the falls are achieved through the pouring process of the screed.
Hotelier & Hotel Design
How Do You Create the Perfect Wetroom?
36
The type of drainage used in a wetroom is determined by the floor build-up of the room (either timber or solid). As well as the floor build up, effective drainage systems also need to take into consideration the flow rates that the homeowner wants to achieve and address this using an appropriate number of drainage traps. In addition to the effectiveness of the drainage systems, the aesthetics of the drain are also important. Consumers are looking for stylish drains that enhance the design of their wetroom and provide a beautiful finishing touch. The trend towards natural stone and porcelain tiles in wetrooms has helped fuel the popularity of contemporary linear drains which lend themselves to the sleek, minimal look achieved by stone and porcelain. Square drains can also be achieved in wetrooms with four way falls and these work particularly well with mosaic tiles. Establishing the style of tiles that you’d like in your wetroom, will help determine the most appropriate drain for your wetroom. Contemporary large format tiles are best suited to wetrooms with only one or two way falls where a sleek minimal look can be achieved, whilst small mosaic tiles are ideally suited to floors with a built in four way fall, achieved using a traditional wet dec floor former with a consistent gradient. However, the most important factor in creating a perfect watertight wetroom is waterproofing. Waterproofing is the key to a successful watertight wetroom. To ensure a 100% watertight seal, a waterproof membrane should be installed prior to tiling. This involves waterproofing or “tanking” a wetroom using a self-adhesive sheet membrane underneath the tiles, right up to and including the drain, corner junctions, toilet flange and recessed areas. The sheet membrane (such as RIW Tilesafe) should be installed across the entire shower area (and extending a further metre into the bathroom), followed by the application of a liquid membrane to the walls to ensure water cannot penetrate between any gaps. Sheet membranes are quick and easy to install and can be tiled upon immediately.

The Cafe/Bar refurbishment was awarded to GIA with a brief to enhance customer experience and to have greater family appeal. GIA were delighted to use their imagination and creativity. Our design originated from a local Mere which is home for wildlife, a place for fishing and enjoying a natural paradise. Functionality is one of GIA strengths and this, overlaid with pure imagination produced a facility strong on family appeal, with custom designed lighting and seating ingeniously linked back to the inspiration of the Mere. The space is a main artery into other facilities and therefore this had to be creatively integrated into the scheme without destroying the comfort and ambience of this imaginative creation. See The Very Latest Brilliant, Fast, Clever, Cost-Saving Warewashing With Winterhalter Speed, running costs and quality are watchwords of the casual dining sector and Winterhalter addresses them all when it unveils the new PT ClimatePlus warewasher on stand M536 at Casual Dining 2015. This new warewasher cuts energy consumption by over 50%, achieves superb wash results and actually cools the kitchen climate. Winterhalter’s PT Series warewashers have already impressed the market when it comes to cleaning results, speed and economy. Now, with the newly developed ClimatePlus heat pump, the company believes it is setting new benchmarks in improved kitchen climate and lower operating costs. When washing with the PT ClimatePlus, the temperature and water content of the exhaust air from the machine are considerably reduced. When the air in the kitchen reaches 25°C the heat pump sends the PT’s exhaust air, cooled to around 18°C, back into the room. As a result, the working environment improves noticeably. Independent trials carried out by equipment testing specialist TÜV SÜD in Germany showed that, when washing with the PT ClimatePlus, the heat given off into the room was reduced by 75% compared to a standard PT model. Furthermore, in many cases there is no need to fit an exhaust air hood for the machine, giving additional cost savings. The ClimatePlus heat pump not only uses energy from the steam in the machine’s interior to warm the wash water, it also uses energy from warm air drawn in from the kitchen. An electrically operated latch controls the switching between the two modes of operation to maximise energy capture.
To illustrate the cleaning power of Winterhalter machines there is a glass-fronted UC machine on the stand. This shows visitors the vario power jets working on heavily stained glasses, achieving hygienically, spotless results without damaging even delicate glassware. Winterhalter provides a total solution for warewashing, from pre-sales advice to after-sales service, training and maintenance. Alongside its market-leading dish and glasswashers, the company’s range includes utensil washers, advanced water treatment machines, cleaning chemicals and detergents. FRIMA’s compact VarioCooking Center Multificiency 112T on Stand G15 offers the solution to this conundrum. The 112T is a tabletop version of the full-size FRIMA VarioCooking Center Multificiency. It’s a multifunction cooking appliance, which allows chefs to boil, grill, fry, low temperature cook and deep fry, precisely and easily, all in one unit. It’s up to four times as fast, and saves up to 40% in energy, compared to conventional appliances. Despite measuring just 962mm wide by 800mm deep and 400mm high, it has two 14 litre pans, giving it the same capacity as its larger stablemate, the VCC 112. The 112T takes space-saving multifunctional cooking technology to a new level. It can replace kettles, tilting pans, bratt pans, fryers and griddles, saving 30% or more space in the kitchen. “The great thing about the 112T is that it can be used anywhere,” says Graham Kille, managing director of FRIMA UK. “On a table, a work surface, a central cooking block or moved to where it is needed for any casual dining situation. It’s just as versatile as the
established VarioCooking Center models, but takes up much less space.” The 112T features several new intelligent cooking processes of special interest to the casual dining sector, including automatic processes for sous vide, confit and steaming. As with all the VarioCooking Center’s processes, they cook without the need for monitoring and with no chance of sticking or scorching. Visitors to the stand will be able to see the 112T and watch videos of it in action to get an idea of its capabilities and the vast array of cooking processes it can tackle. NOTHING BUT THE BEAN Stirring up the coffee market with Sowden SoftBrew It’s reckoned that Britons currently buy some 186 million capsules for single cup coffee brewers in a year at a cost of some £56 million, virtually all of them destined to end up as landfill. Does all this ecological disaster in the making produce a better tasting coffee? Quite the contrary, says Milan-based British designer, George Sowden. For quite a few years as the coffee boom has taken hold in the UK the trend has run in favour of expensive machines and industrial preparation of the coffee. There are signs, however, that the tide is now turning.
Three of the four distinct design styles of the Sowden SoftBrew coffee pots
What Sowden offers is a return to a simple jug and water approach made possible by a proprietary micro-etched filter in stainless steel that uses nothing but ground coffee and water, hot or cold. Nothing to interfere with the natural taste of the coffee, allowing coffee drinkers to readily experiment with different coffees and different grinds to find the perfect brew to suit them. And no waste! Time magazine in the US recently (June 2014) acknowledged this in naming the Sowden SoftBrew pots among the ten “smartest smart gadgets …trying to save the world,” noting that the porcelain pots “majorly cut down” on capsule waste. Prestige hotels programme The Sowden pots, being high quality porcelain in four striking designs, also come without the breakage problems often associated with glass infusion brewers of the French press variety, which make them particularly suited to the hospitality trade.
Cut-away showing how the innovative SoftBrew filter fits into the pot
Recognising this, Sowden’s UK subsidiary, Sowden at Home Ltd, is presently running a marketing programme designed to offer attractive discounts on SoftBrew teapots as well as coffee pots to prestige hotels.

Robert Wilson, director of Captains Club Hotel, commented: “We bought the Sowden SoftBrew coffee pots earlier this year for the busy coffee lounge at the Captains Club Hotel. They were to replace our cafetieres which were a health and safety risk and kept breaking. “We have never looked back. Making fresh coffee is quick and easy without the risky plunging needed with cafetieres. And guests love the stylish contemporary pots which infuse the coffee grains perfectly.” For further details see www.sowdenathome.com
The brewing process: put coffee into the filter, add hot water, let brew for four to eight minutes and pour. Nothing could be simpler.

Interesting times for Reload Furniture Originally set up to offer private clients mid-century furniture and accessories, their skilled team of craftsmen and designers are now “redeveloping” all manner of British and European pieces, sensitively adding laminates or time led graphics to create unique new pieces, each piece unrepeatable. As a consequence, their market has expanded from the eccentric collector to the mid-century stylist of hotel or apartment design. Many pieces can be colour coordinated or created to act as a counter point to the overall design or follow a dedicated design brief. The strange and “left field” pieces of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s are Reload’s main sourcing pool but they also acquire items from different periods purely for their peculiarity and inherent good design. Furniture, lighting and artwork are generally selected on the basis of classic design, line and colour with Interior Designers and Architects in mind, currently developing hospitality schemes, seeking to accentuate bedroom, reception or lobby with items of delight.

Hypnos welcomes new contract bed standard
54
Leading hotel bed manufacturer, Hypnos, has welcomed the announcement of the ‘first standard’ for contract beds, which has been developed by the Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA). FIRA developed the new test following requests from manufacturers, who believed that contract beds – those used in the non-domestic applications like the hotel industry – needed to adhere to more stringent performance guidelines than their domestic counterparts. The new standard looks to enhance the BS EN1725 test methods currently used for domestic beds, reflecting the fact that beds used in the hospitality market are subject to far more rigorous use.

Bio-Ethanol Changing
Fire Industry The rise of bio-ethanol is driving a revolution in the design of fires, according to leading interior and exterior heating designers Smart Fire UK According to the company, technological developments mean that when it comes to fire design, the possibilities are almost limitless.
He said: “We’ve all seen the headlines about increasing energy prices. Bioethanol allows people to have a costeffective greener alternative to traditional fuels.
The design and convenience of these devices rather than the need for smoke extraction and heat loss through chimneys, allows greater aesthetic scope.
“Additionally you are able to install them virtually anywhere without the need to design a chimney or flu, again saving a large amount of money.
The bio-ethanol fires have proved popular with new build properties as well as buildings with no access to a traditional chimney or flu.
“They have also proved extremely popular with many of the country’s top interior designers.”
The rise of this alternative fuel has allowed an expansion in the design and potential locations of fires. Smart Fire UK works with brands such as Ecosmartfire, one of the UK’s top developers of sustainable indoor heating solutions.
Hotelier & Hotel Design
They also attribute this increase in demand for bio-ethanol fuelled fires down to rising awareness of environmental issues.
56
For Paul Holt, Business Manager at Smart Fire UK, the popularity of bio-ethanol is also down to its money-saving potential.
Bio-ethanol is a clean burning flammable liquid and is responsibly sourced from agriculture.
Paul continued: “We have worked with big names such as Helen Green as well as Hill House and Chesney’s, stretching the boundaries of what is possible with fires. “We have designed fires for outdoor spaces as well inside fountains and even in swimming pools. As long as we deem the design to be safe, the possibilities are endless. “At Smart Fire UK, we are committed to developing a greener, more sustainable future for heating solutions and we are proud to work with companies who share this vision.”

Fibre optic star ceilings made easy A fibre optic lighting system initially developed for the high-end home cinema sector is now starting to find favour in the hospitality sector. Starscape Star Ceilings Ltd of Berwick upon Tweed is a specialist in fibre optic star ceilings with a customer base which includes many professional installers of home cinemas. However, while home cinema customers love star ceilings, the home cinema installers found them challenging and timeconsuming to fit on site. So, Starscape set itself to develop a modular system in which the fibres are delivered already fitted to ceiling panels. The challenge was to develop a product which looked great, had good acoustic properties and which could be quickly and easily installed.

The first significant use of the system in the hospitality sector was in a recent project to convert the Hope and Anchor pub in Uttoxeter into the Indian Spice restaurant. Interiors contractor Cheshire Property Repairs installed more than 60 square metres of the navy blue version of the Infinity panel, with the result that diners in the new restaurant can relax beneath 6000 twinkling stars. Dramatic star ceilings. Easy to install. Two phrases that don’t usually go together. Now, with Starscape’s unique Infinity star ceiling system, design and installation are easy. The Infinity is a modular system is based on lightweight stiff honeycomb panels that are supplied pre-fibred. Each panel has a short ‘tail’ of fibres terminating in an optical joint; this in turn connects to a long ‘tail’ emanating from the LED light source (or projector). The source or sources can be placed up to 20 metres from display for ease of installation and future maintenance. A magnetic fixing system is available to further speed installation. The standard 1000 x 1000mm panel has 100 stars in 4 different fibre diameters. SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, Paris 1896 - PALAIS IÉNA: A STEP BACK IN TIME Originally built in 1896 as the home of French imperial Prince Roland Bonaparte, the most historic areas of the former Palais Iéna were listed in 2009 with French institution Monuments Historiques, an initiative undertaken by the Shangri-La group. Today, the iconic building once again welcomes Parisians and world travellers within its walls, 114 years after the prince first opened the doors of his residential palace to Parisian society. Palais Iéna: The Private Residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte The rediscovered history of the building and its cultural significance as the home of one of France’s most notable aristocratic families is at the core of this flagship hotel. It all began in May 1891, when Prince Roland Bonaparte bought nearly 3,000 square metres (33,000 square feet) of grounds on avenue d’Iéna in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, which remains today the city’s most elegant
neighbourhood. Located between the statue of George Washington and the Eiffel Tower, the site was selected by the prince for its proximity to the Seine and its strategic location at the heart of the capital’s most exciting urban and social scenes. The prince commissioned architect Ernest Janty, renowned for his reconstruction work at the Louvre and Tuileries palaces for Napoleon III, to design an elegant home and reception areas for receiving notable guests. Throughout the four years of construction from 1892-1896, the building’s design and structure caught the attention of Parisians, since it was a blend of architectural styles from both the 17th and 19th centuries, known simply as “eclectic style.” The palace’s façade is inspired by the Louis XIV style, with intricate masonry of stone from L’Oise. Sculptors Steiner and Houguenade, who also rose to fame for their craftsmanship on the Louvre and the Tuileries Palaces, were commissioned to carve the façade’s “eclectic style,” featuring the family coat of arms (lion heads and antlers).
The palace was divided into two distinct wings: The Iéna wing comprised the family residence and reception halls, accessed from 10 avenue d’Iéna, facing north. The ground level featured a two-storey ceiling and mansard roof with bullseye glass windows to draw in light, and a blue and gold mosaic on the second floor. The residence’s courtyard entryway and ornate gates ensured a private, residential feel to the expansive palace, a characteristic the building retains even today despite its bustling location. Visiting guests were afforded confidential arrival in their carriages, followed by meticulous reception in one of the three reception salons, which included a fumoir and a billiard room styled in Greco-Roman design. The foyer, whose alcoves today compose the hotel lobby, was constructed with five different varieties of marble from the Pyrenees, the Alps and Tuscany. Guests entered in the centre of a rotunda whose vaulted ceiling featured zodiac symbols, which still remain today. The Fresnel wing comprised the prince’s extensive library, study, and collections of art, accessed from rue Fresnel,
facing south. As in a private castle, the building’s two wings are joined together by a vestibule and a secondary staircase in addition to a Staircase of Honour. Designed by Ernest Janty and crafted from forged steel and polished brass by the Moreau brothers of the Château of Chantilly fame, the staircase embodies the grandeur of the estate. A bronze statue of a child holding a torch still stands today before the staircase, which leads to the residential salons and the prince’s library on the upper level. Past the library, entering from the rue Fresnel, one notes a superb arcade of masonry, specially crafted to house the prince’s stables.
