National Committee on Nano-Engineering "The Future is Today" Presentation by: Tito A. Cueva, FIEAust-CPEng - NCNE Chair BE (Hons), METM (UQ), MBA (eCom)

2011

What is Nano-Engineering? • NanoEngineering is the practice of engineering on the nanoscale. It derives its name from the nanometre, a unit of measurement equalling one billionth of a meter. • The use of nanoscience and nanotechnology in engineering directly links academic research in these fields to industries and daily life. • As a result, numerous nanomaterials, nanodevices and nanosystems for various engineering purposes have been developed and used for human betterment.

Nano Education in Australia • Since 2000, 17 Australian universities have introduced Nanotechnology education, mostly in the form of Bachelor degree courses hosted in science faculties. • Several universities have plans to introduce Master degree courses in the near future. • Currently Australia graduates about 100 Nanotechnology Bachelors a year.
