CROP Hunger Walk Planned In Stewartstown The Stewartstown Area CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, with goals of 35 walkers, five teams, and $3,500 collected. The event aims to help end hunger and poverty, and all funds raised will go toward longterm sustainable approaches to significantly reduce or eliminate hunger. A portion of the funds raised at the Stewartstown walk will go to the food pantry of Mason-Dixon Community Services in Delta. Last year, 39 walkers raised $3,267 through the CROP Hunger Walk. Stewartstown Presbyterian Church, 14 College Ave., Stewartstown, will mark the starting point for the CROP Hunger Walk, with registration at 1 p.m. There will be a choice of three route distances, starting at just under a mile. Additionally,

snack-packing events will take place just before and after the walk. This hands-on project will provide Mason-Dixon Ministries with readily available snacks for clients it serves. The Stewartstown Area CROP Hunger Walk committee is seeking teams of walkers and sponsors of cash or inkind donations. Readers may contact judygrove@verizon.net or 717-741-4366 for more information, to register a team of walkers, or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities. CROP Hunger Walks help teach sustainable ways to grow food and provide additional sources of food and income to families facing extreme challenges. To learn more about the work that the CROP Hunger Walk supports, readers may visit www.crophungerwalk.org. The Stewartstown Area CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Oct. 20.

Campers Visit Local Railway

Sparrow Place Slates Dress Sale

Every summer, the Southern Branch YMCA of York and York County provides activities and programs that allow Camp Discovery campers the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. This year, 113 campers and 11 chaperones took a special Northern Central Railway - Steam Into History excursion through the countryside on the Glen Rock Express on July 11 to learn more about the historic railway that dates back to the late 1820s. Campers rode along with a 1957 Pennsylvania GP 9 at what is known as the only place where an original Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive runs on a genuine Pennsylvania rail line. In addition, the campers were treated to a magical performance by Dr. Marc Charisse, the Professor of Prestidigitation, during their excursion. Camp Discovery provides a camp experience for children of all ages. Staff provide a safe environment to enhance the core values of the YMCA: faith, hope, love, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Camp Discovery activities include field trips, science lessons, swimming, sports, arts and humanities, and activities that

The What the Food Trucks festival will take place on Sunday, Sept. 1, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Penn Park, 100 E. College Ave., York. Last year, roughly 20,000 people visited the event to support York city by patronizing local and regional food trucks, vendors, breweries and wineries. At this year’s event, more than 40 food trucks will line three sides of Penn Park. The event is free for all, and food and beverages are pay-as-yougo. The event will feature a beer garden, as well as a limited selection of beverages. No outside alcohol is permitted. This year’s Community Corner will feature more than 12 nonprofits and organizations that will have information about the services they provide, as well as interactive activities for children.

The courts will be left open for neighborhood play. The music is provided thanks to the support of the Cultural Alliance of York County’s Cultural Impact Awards and Brewery Products. This year’s What the Food Trucks grand marshal is Korey Warner Knight, widow of York supporter Douglas Knight, who died at the beginning of 2019. Korey and Doug were major supporters of the food truck festivals since the beginning. The grand marshal has the privilege to skip the lines, as do members of the Legion of

Eats - people marked by their masks for donations made during Give Local York - who each have a one-time line skipper pass. Parking around the outside of the park is prohibited after 6 a.m. on Sept. 1. Cars still there will be towed by the York City Police. Parking shuttles will run from the York College of Pennsylvania Rail Trail lot and the Susquehanna Commerce Center to the park from 30 minutes before to 30 minutes after the event. This event is organized by CrocodileDog Marketing, which has been running various events in and around the city of York for more than 10 years. Not One More To Host Rally Not One More - York Chapter will host a rally on Saturday, Aug. 31, at York’s Continental Square to mark International Overdose Awareness Day.
