York County residents are invited to participate in the 45th annual York County Conservation District (YCCD) tree seedling sale on Thursday, April 11, at Rocky Ridge County Park, located off Mount Zion Road in York. Each year, more than 20,000 seedlings are sold and planted in York County and surrounding areas. Featured this year will be numerous seedlings native to the area, as well as a variety of fruit-bearing shrubs and trees, such as apple and cherry trees. At the sale, one free blue spruce or white pine seedling will be handed out per person to attendees who bring the required coupon. To view the descriptions of the

Men’s Lenten Breakfasts Set United Methodist churches in the York area have set their men’s Lenten breakfast schedule for most Saturdays, March 9 to April 20, during Lent. Communion will be celebrated at the first breakfast on March 9 at Messiah United Methodist Church (UMC), 1300 N. Beaver St., York. No breakfasts will be held on March 16 and April 13. York County residents age 60 and up are invited to take a tour, meet staff and members, stay for lunch, and participate in activities. On Thursday, March 14, will be a craft with Linda from 9 to 11 a.m., making a lotus flower tea light holder out of an old CD and spoons. This is a free craft, but sign-up is recommended by calling Marie at 717-848-4417. On Friday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be an opportunity to crochet plastic mats for the homeless. Attendees can learn to crochet
or cut plastic bags into strips to help with this craft. A staff member will help prepare rent rebate forms by appointment only on March 15, and other days are available. Free bingo is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 12:45 p.m. A cash bingo fundraiser is held every Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. for purchasing and eating from a special menu. Daily workouts are offered from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial arts program, is taught by a certified teacher on Mondays and Wednesdays

The center offers shuffleboard on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m., and additional players are being sought. All are welcome to play or watch. Board games, cards, and jigsaw puzzles are also available. In addition, wood burning classes and workshops are held on the first and third Fridays.

VFW Post Plans Combat Recovery Course The James A. Danner VFW Post 537, 1095 Pines Road, Etters, will host a 12week REBOOT Combat Recovery course beginning on Thursday, March 21. The training will focus on healing the spiritual and moral wounds of war and will be led by combat veterans. The course will be free to combat veterans and spouses/partners. Free child care and dinner will be provided. Created to help service members and their families work through their posttraumatic stress, REBOOT offers a blend of clinical insight and faith-based support in the form of weekly classes that include topic-based instruction, class discussions, homework, group exercises and a family-style meal. Orchestra To Perform Classical Concert Green-Kindig The York Symphony Orchestra will present “Beethoven and Bruckner” on Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. The performance is part of the Classical Series. The concert will open with “Overture to Leonore No. 3,” Beethoven’s only completed opera. It tells the story of Leonore, who disguises herself as a prison guard to rescue her husband from death in a political prison.
The concert will also feature Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony, subtitled “Romantic.” Symphony No. 4, which premiered in Vienna in 1881, was the first of Bruckner’s symphonies to achieve significant public success and remains among his most popular and frequently performed works. More than 80 veterans of the World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, Gulf War, and War on Terror eras gathered at Northeastern High School for the 14th Honor Bus trip on Nov. 17, 2018. As a token of gratitude, this trip was sponsored by the Northeastern High School Honor Bus Project. This group of students escorts local veterans on all-expenses-paid trips to Washington, D.C., to visit the various memorials dedicated to their service. In addition to visiting the memorials, participants in the recent trip visited Arlington National Cemetery to witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns. All participants received breakfast and a bag lunch, and they were treated to a banquet upon their return to Northeastern High School. The 15th Honor Bus trip is scheduled to
