The Watershed Alliance of York (WAY) has announced its 16th Watershed Weekends. The purpose of Watershed Weekends is to provide opportunities for attendees to get to know their watersheds and meet the people and organizations who are working to enhance, restore and protect them. Watershed Weekends will take place from Friday, Sept. 21, to Sunday, Sept. 30. Coalition To Host The Positivity Guru 24th Annual York Bike Night Slated Kevin Jackson, known as the Positivity Guru, will speak about “Innovation Under Fire” at the Buy Local Coalition’s second annual Signature Speaker Event, set for Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Wyndham Garden Hotel York, 2000 Loucks Road, York. Registration will begin at 3 p.m., and the speaker will share from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jackson is known as the Positivity Guru for the ways he inspires and motivates others. His presentation will focus on how people can be inspired to create and innovate. Born and raised in York, Jackson is senior vice president of innovation and quality at The Wolf Organization LLC, where he is responsible for championing large-scale initiatives that transform the business. There is a cost to register, which includes a beverage and hors d’oeuvres during a networking time from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. following Jackson’s presentation. Seating is limited to 150 attendees. The City of York will present the 24th annual York Bike Night on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 3 to 9 p.m. in and around Continental Square in downtown York. The street party will feature a motorcycle parade, food and merchandise vendors, live entertainment, and informational exhibits. The event will be held in conjunction with the annual Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Operations open house. Carrie Becker will sing the national

anthem at Continental Square at 3 p.m. to officially kick off the festivities. Parade participants will leave the York Expo Center at 4:30 p.m., traveling east on Market Street to Broad Street and then traveling back to the Continental Square area. Anyone who would like to ride in the parade should arrive at the York Expo Center between 2:15 and 4:15 p.m. and enter using the Highland Avenue gate. Celebrating York’s Unity Through 10,000 Acts of Kindness is seeking artwork to include on posters throughout the county over the next 10 months. To enter the contest, students from preschool through grade 12 are invited to draw or paint a picture of what kindness looks to them on 8.5-by-11-inch paper. Barbecue Championship Held

Foundation Awards Grant Big Brothers Big Sisters of York and Adams Counties received a $10,000 grant from the York County Community Foundation’s Fund for York County on July 6. The funds will support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ minority recruitment campaign, Kindred Spirits, which will seek to recruit 30 volunteer mentors from the minority community for at-risk youths from similar ethnic backgrounds in 60 days. The campaign officially started on Aug. 26 during Big Brothers Big Sisters’ York Turtle Derby fundraiser at 227 W. Market St., York. York County Community

Foundation seeks to create a vibrant York County by engaging donors, providing community leadership, and investing in high-impact initiatives while building endowment for future generations. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with professionally supported one-to-one relationships intended to change their lives for the better, forever. Halloween Parade Scheduled Registration is now open for the 69th edition of the York Halloween Parade, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 28. Commercial and nonprofit organizations, baton groups or dance studios, and individuals and small groups may enter the parade. Wellness Expo Planned For Seniors Crispus Attucks Association, 605 S. Duke St., York, will host a Wellness Expo for seniors age 60 and older on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. Admission is free. Approximately 20 community health and wellness organizations are expected to participate this year, including Crispus Attucks Active Living Center, WellSpan Smoking Cessation, and health care and hospice companies.

Dr. Barry Wentland from Memorial Hospital will present “Shots Not Just for Tots” at 11 a.m. The Wellness Expo will also feature free blood pressure screenings, door prizes, healthful refreshments and more. Technology Gathering Scheduled Otterbein United Methodist Church, 3225 N.
