Repeat Performance Drive-Through Lasagna Dinner Planned BY ANN MEAD ASH
or many years, members of Salem Hellers Evangelical Reformed Church have held a lasagna dinner fundraiser in February. Last year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event became a drive-through. Organizer Deb Burns reported that the sale was so successful, organizers ran out of food halfway through the threehour event. This year, the drive-through dinner will be held at the church, 2555 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 3 p.m. until the food is sold out. Those wishing to purchase lasagna are asked to take Horseshoe Road to Industrial Circle and enter the church driveway from the right side of Industrial Circle. Cars will then pull into the parking lot, where orders will be taken and cash payment will be accepted. Meals will be

As in the past, organizers will prepare up to 100 pans of lasagna in three varieties - hamburger, hamburger and sausage, and vegetable with a red sauce - on the day of the sale. Meals will each include a square of lasagna, a salad, garlic bread, and a homemade dessert. Dinners will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, but pans in each variety large enough to serve six must be preordered by Sunday, Feb. 13. Those wishing to order pans of lasagna may call 717-951-9717. Bucks Outlast Lebanon in 3 OT, 91-84 the 48-36 final. Taylor Hehnly (15-points) and Rhiannon Henry (12-points) led the surge, scoring 21 of CV’s 26 second half points. Two nights earlier the Lady Mountaineers handed CV a 4734 setback, outscoring the Lady Buckskins in all but the final frame. Ephrata did their heavy lifting in the first and third quarters where they held a 3016 edge with CV’s slight 10-8 edge in the fourth setting the final margin. Hehnly enjoyed another 15-point game. CV kicked off February with a trip to Lititz to battle Warwick. That battle went to the Lady Warriors by a 34-27 final. Warwick used a 10-4 run coming out of the break to turn a tight 17-15 affair into the 17point win. Hehnly finished with 14-points. SWIMMING The regular season officially ended on February 1st for the CV swim teams with a trip to Lampeter-Strasburg. The Pioneers controlled the meet leaving just six total wins for CV and leading to a 75-73 loss for the boy’s and a 124-41 setback for the girls. Jordan Holmes accounted for both of the wins on the Lady Buckskin side, taking the 100-backstroke outright while tying Kara Scranton in the 100-

The junior claimed the 50and 100-free with Ashton Reese, Dylan Reeser and Rome Lucchese helping to take the 400-free relay. Aidan Campbell picked up one final victory in the 100-breaststroke. BOWLING The bowling team inched closer to the end of their regular season with losses to Manheim Township and Warwick putting the Buckskins at 25-59. Ryan Muckle posted the top series in the 7-0 loss to Township on January 28th, rolling games of 211, 180 and 223. CV fell to Warwick by a 5-2 count on February 1st with Josiah Casler posting the top score. The freshman opened with a 183, closed with a 209 with a 232-middle game, good enough for a 624 series. RIFLE When added to the January 25th win over Wilson, the rifle team’s wins over Governor Mifflin and Ephrata officially make a winning streak for the Buckskins. CV needed an extra shooter in both matches to secure the win leading to a 588586 victory over Mifflin on January 27th. William Roland, Ivan Shrom and Adam Zook finished out the bottom of the CV scorers with matching 97s. Grady Ray occupied the top spot with a 100 while Sierra Land (99) and Edison Stauffer (98) settled between the others. February 1st was the streak’s official start date thanks to the 587-585 win over Ephrata. This time it was Zook posting the perfect score while Shrom, Emily Russel and Hunter Kleckner added a trifecta of 97s. Stauffer and Land filled out the scorers with matching 98s. WRESTLING The wrestling team reached the ‘fun’ part of their schedule where they must simultaneously close out the regular season and start the postseason. The balancing act started with a 4721 win over McCaskey on January 26th and carried over into the L-L Championships on the 28th and 29th but did not get the Buckskins through their District 3-3A Quarterfinal team clash opposite Hempfield on February 1st. “It was a team goal to qualify for the District Team Champi-
onships,” said head coach Trent Turner, “but only half of the goal was accomplished,” referencing the team’s 0-6 mark in the district team bracket. “That was the other half of that team goal that will be left for another year.” Turner pointed to some injuries that helped his squad’s upset bid of top seeded Hempfield fall short but added, “I am still proud of a team that on Photo by Cheri Sine January 14th was 1-4 and who Conestoga Valley’s Demajh then put together a seven-match Salisbery hits a jumper in the win streak to put us in the mix paint for two of his team-high 14 points in the Buckskins’ 62and ahead of a lot of other 47, Section Two loss at E-town teams in the district that didn’t on January 28. get this opportunity. Museum curator Jennifer Hall Royer first learned that the guns had been recovered when she was contacted by the FBI about three years ago. The two Civil War-era firearms were returned to Royer and site administrator David Blackburn two months ago following a press conference at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. The guns were recovered after the thief, Gavin Thomas of Montgomery County, sold a number of items to gun dealer Kelly Kinzle of York County. They were among firearms taken in a rash of museum robberies in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Royer said that the guns were stolen from the museum’s gun shop and that there were no photographs of them. “They were identified as missing by the gunsmith at that time. He made drawings of them, and that’s all we had,” Royer said, noting that security at the museum has been strengthened considerably in the last 50 years. Both pistols are percussion cap guns. One is an Army model, which dates to 1860. It was purchased in 1914 in New York City for $1.50 by Henry Landis, one of the brothers who founded the museum. It is 14 1/2 inches long. The second gun is a 13 1/2-inch-long Navy model, which dates to 1851.

ries and allegories that connect to themes portrayed throughout the show. The music includes songs by well-known artists such as Lauren Daigle, We the Kingdom, Hillsong, TobyMac, The Gray Havens, CityAlight, Steffany Gretzinger, Kanye West, and Needtobreathe. Among the dance pieces is one about sirens, the mythological creatures that used their enchanting voices to distract sailors, causing them to stray off course and be lured to their deaths. This story depicts the destruction that temptation can cause when people fail to cry out to God for strength. Jill Hertzog is the show’s artistic director, and Lillian Ortiz is the assistant director. The choreography is by Gavin Haas, Jill Hertzog, Lillian Ortiz, and Caitlin Stoltzfoos. Performing as company dancers are Annika Blake, Sarah Blatt, Jada Correll, McKenna Donaldson, Lincoln Everett, Jazmyne Levengood, Emma Myers, Dorene Stauffer, and Hannah Stoltzfoos. The company junior dancers are Emily DeRose, Ava Fidler, Olivia Horst, Aaliyah Lapp, and Inara Taylor. Separate ticket prices have been set for adults and for students. To

The festivities, which will include dinner, dancing and a silent auction, will benefit We Help Children, a Christian nonprofit created by Drew and Cindy Metcalf. “Drew and Cindy served in Guatemala for 10 years, and the primary focus of their ministry was to work with children in orphanages,” said Gabe Martin, a board member of We Help Children and the organizer of the Sweethearts Ball. “During the pandemic, they were called back home, and they partnered with an organization called The Haft to continue their mission.” We Help Children now operates a restoration farm in Bradford County, where people come for hope and healing. The organization also continues to train people on five continents throughout the world. The Sweethearts Ball will feature dinner catered by Mission BBQ, with a menu including pulled pork and chicken, sliced brisket, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, green beans, rolls and cornbread.
