In his former positions, Tuel led and coordinated the work of worship musicians, worship leaders, and tech volunteers in addition to preaching and teaching new member and discipleship classes. He served most recently as a volunteer worship leader and small group leader at Victory Church in Lancaster and was previously ordained by the Brethren in Christ and the Southern Baptist Church. At both sites, children ages 5 to 12 can complete activities to become a Junior Ranger Night Explorer. At the Zimmerman Center, children who complete the activities can be sworn in by a National Park Service ranger and earn their Junior Ranger Badge. Columbia Crossing is located at 41 Walnut St., Columbia. The Zimmerman

Originally from Frederick County, Md., Tuel met his wife, Sara, at Eastern University and they were married in 2001. They have three children, ages 12, 10, and 8. As a family, they enjoy playing games together and walking their dog, Jenny.

Guidance and support are provided to foster families throughout the process, as well. Other ways to support the organization’s work include making donations. “We have had church groups provide backpacks loaded with hygiene items and so on,” Tanner said. She pointed out that many times children will be brought into care straight from school, so they have little more than the clothes on their backs. “It really makes a difference to that child,” she said. Other items needed on a consistent basis include pillows and a change of clothes for each child. Meeks noted that a recent donation from an Annville-based company provided brand-new bicycles, skateboards, and helmets. “Donations of any kind are always appreciated,” she said. “Any business who wants to support us and what we do, just know that the children are affected directly. It is for them.” For more information on F.U.N., readers may visit www.families4kids.org or call 717-492-9338.

While the event certainly focuses on actual fun, organizers hope that attendees will come to learn more about F.U.N., a nonprofit that works to find loving foster homes for children in crisis. “The event is really about becoming more visible in the community,” noted resource family specialist Holly Tanner. F.U.N. currently works with approximately 50 children at a time to provide foster placement and other necessities. Tanner shared that if the organization had more foster families, it could increase the number of children it helps. “One of the most difficult things is to say ‘no’ to (a child needing placement) simply because we don’t have (a placement) available,” she said. The F.U.N. Fest will offer local residents the opportunity to find out how they can make a difference to a child needing a foster placement. Staff will be on hand at the event to provide information and help families take the first step in positively changing a child’s life. Program supervisor Kristin Meeks shared that the organization holds foster parent orientations twice a month, offering a place to begin the journey to foster parenting. “There is no pressure; it is just informative,” Meeks noted. “It is a good

Susquehanna Rivertowns Weekend To Feature Walking, Biking Options The Susquehanna Rivertowns Weekend, featuring three walking events and a bike event, will take place on Friday, April 26, to Sunday, April 28, regardless of the weather. Walks, which will highlight historic sites, will be offered in Columbia, sponsored by Penn Dutch Pacers Volksmarch Club; Marietta, sponsored by Susquehanna Rovers; and Wrightsville, sponsored by York White Rose Wanderers. The biking event, offering 15K to 35K options, will take place in Columbia. The start point for the noncompetitive walks is Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., Columbia. Participants may start anytime each day between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., and they must finish by 4 p.m. They may walk at their own pace, and runners are welcome. Children age 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and pets will be permitted on the walks. A bake sale will be taking place during the event, as well. The Columbia walk will offer 5K and 10K options, with rail trail and sidewalk options available. The walk will feature the Civil War and Underground Railroad history of the town as well as the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail. Some historic sites along the way will include Wright’s Ferry Mansion, Mount Bethel Cemetery, and Zion Hill Cemetery, which is the burial site of many black soldiers who fought in the Civil War. Some of these soldiers are from the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, portrayed in the 1989 film “Glory.” Wheelchairs and strollers should have little difficulty on the rail trail, with more difficulty on the other trail due to inclines. This event is sponsored by Penn Dutch Pacers Volksmarch Club, a nonprofit organization promoting fitness through noncompetitive family sports. The club is celebrating 30 years of public walks. The Wrightsville walk will have 6K and 10K options available. The town is recognized as one of the places George Washington considered for being the capital of the United States. The trail will go over the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places along with the Wrightsville Historic District. Most of the trail will be on sidewalks, with a bit of roadside walking involved. Organizers note that wheelchairs will have difficulty, with strollers having medium difficulty. In Marietta, 5K and 10K walks will be offered. The borough was incorporated in 1812 and prospered due to the river commerce; the varied architecture is indicative of this time period. Individuals may combine the Columbia 5K to pick up the Marietta trail, or they may drive 2.6 miles from Columbia Crossing to reach the beginning of the Marietta walking trail. Most of the trail will be on sidewalks, with some roadside walking involved. Wheelchairs will have difficulty due to inclines, and strollers should have medium difficulty. All are welcome to participate. There is a nominal cost for those seeking IVV/AVA credit;
all others may participate for free. A B-award will be available for the walks for a fee, and New Walker packets may be purchased for those wishing to begin walking for credit. For more information, readers may contact Maria Roshon at

was being developed, and acrylic painting or colored pencil drawing were used for the finished art. One of Robinson’s favorite annual projects at Apollo Advertising was the Christmas toy catalog cover. She won a national award for her 1967 Christmas cover. Outside of work, Robinson painted for personal enjoyment using oils and watercolors as well as colored pencils. She took oil painting classes from local artist Henry Libhart. She painted both still lifes and landscapes. In the 1970s, she taught art at St. Joseph’s Academy and Holy Trinity School. She often found time to continue painting and drawing. She was active in her church and community throughout her life. She always utilized her creative talent, whether designing stage sets for Columbia School of Ballet or creating posters for the Columbia Hospital Auxiliary fundraisers.

In his eighth-grade Bible class at Dayspring Christian Academy in Mountville, Jonathan Moynihan heard an announcement about a special project through which he and his classmates were to come up with a way to serve the community. Jonathan knew he wanted to help people with disabilities, and he and his friend Gavin Scott began to brainstorm and research. In their research, they learned about Joni and Friends, an organization that collects wheelchairs and gives them to people in different countries who cannot afford them. They also learned that there is a Joni and Friends building in the same town as their school. Jonathan and Gavin called Joni and Friends and were informed that the organization is still collecting wheelchairs and would appreciate additional donations. The boys invite the community to donate wheelchairs, crutches, collapsible walkers, and canes. Wheelchairs should be manual, not motorized, and crutches and canes should be metal and not wood. All donations of any condition will be appreciated. Donations may be brought to the Alliance Church of Elizabethtown, 425 Cloverleaf Road, Elizabethtown, between 9 a.m. and

12 - MERCHANDISER - Donegal Edition - April 17, 2019
Donegal Baseball Wins Three Straight by Vaughn Brown
Donegal remained in the hunt in Section Three baseball last week by winnig three straight. The streak began last Monday with a 10-0 shutout over Annvile-Cleona, followed by a 12-8 win at ELCO on Tuesday and a 9-6 victory on the road at Lancaster Mennonite on Wednesday. Sitting in third place after defeating the Blazers, Donegal (5-3, 5-3) trailed Octorara (6-1, 6-2) and Manheim Central (7-1, 7-2), but were tied with Garden Spot (5-3, 5-4). Brandon Buckius took the ball to start against AC and pitched a gem of a game, only allowing two hits over six innings with three strikeouts and only one walk. Will Small starred at the plate, accounting for half of Donegal’s hits while going 4-4 with two RBI on the day. Only leading 1-0 after a Small single in the first brought home Drew Bechtold (0-4), the Indians went into the fourth inning before putting up four more runs and then scoring twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth to force the mercy rule.
After singles by Small and Noah Karichner (1-3) to lead off the fourth, a sacrifice bunt by Solomon Myers (0-2, RBI) put them both in scoring position for Matt Wallace (1-3, 2RBI) who brought them home on a single into right. Advancing to second on the throw, Wallace then scored himself on a Zach Leid (0-3) ground ball and error to make it 4-0. Leid eventually pushed the advantage to five runs after stealing third and then crossing the plate on a wild pitch to Bechtold before Donegal closed things out in the sixth. Trailing ELCO by two runs to start the third inning in last Tuesday’s contest, the Indians rallied for six runs and added six more over the next two innings to stop the Raiders in Myerstown. ELCO staged its own rally, scoring one in the bottom of the fifth and then five more in the sixth, before being shut out in the seventh. Karichner collected the win for Donegal with five and a third innings pitched in which he recorded seven strikeouts while walking two and giving up two runs on three hits. An error filled sixth inning that
included back-to-back wild pitches that hit both Small (0-2, 3RBI) and Wallace (1-3, RBI) with the bases loaded followed by a wild pitch and then a booted Leid ground ball provided Donegal with its first five runs of the game. J Grillo’s RBI single to left then brought home Leid (1-4, 2RBI) to give the Indians a 6-2 advantage. After pushing their lead to 12-2, Donegal survived a scare in the sixth when ELCO, after scoring once in the fifth, got to pitcher David Garner for five hits and an error to make it 12-8. Karichner then took to the mound again retiring three of the four batters he faced for the victory. In a game that featured five lead changes, the Indians pulled out a 9-6 victory on the road against Lancaster Mennonite, scoring three unanswered runs in the fifth and another in the sixth for the come-from-behind win. Kyle Burger’s 3-5, 3RBI effort led a Donegal offense that pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of four Blazer errors. Wallace picked up the win despite surrendering six runs on six hits over three and a third innings before giving way to Small who closed things out with only one hit and eight strikeouts. After relinquishing an early 2-0 lead and then regaining the advantage to go back ahead 5-3, the Indians gave up a three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to fall behind 6-5. In the top of the fifth and with one out, a catcher’s
interference call allowed Xavier Cannon (2-4, RBI) to load the bases for Burger who brought home Myers (2-3) on a single to center. A subsequent fielding error on a hit by Small (0-4, 2RBI) then scored both Joel Grillo (1-2) and Cannon to make it 8-6. Another error in the sixth led to the final score of the game. TENNIS After defeating Ephrata 4-3 on Thursday, April 4 the Donegal boys tacked on two more with a 7-0 shutout of ELCO last Tuesday and a 6-1 victory over Annville-Cleona the next day to push their overall record to 7-2. “We had a good week, only losing one match among the 14 contested matches,” stated coach Trent Hoffmaster. “The top half of our section is really strong, so it was nice to have a two-win week.” Against the Raiders, Austin Hollinger and Nathan McNece racked up an 8-4 win in N0. 1 doubles action with No. 2 Evan Stehman and Luke Yunginger (8-2) and No. 3 Noah Hoffmaster and Kyle Bitting (8-2) setting the stage for the clean sweep in singles as well. At No. 1, Hollinger picked up the 6-0, 6-2 win followed by Stehman (6-0, 6-0), McNece (6-0, 61), and Yunginger (6-2, 6-3). In the win at AC, it was a tough, tie breaker loss for Hollinger at No. 1 that served as the only blemish on the day. Stehman won 6-2, 6-1, followed by
McNece (6-4, 6-4) and Yunginger school record being set as she topped her own best run in the 100 with an (6-2, 6-1). Prior to that, in doubles, it was 11.9 effort, .03 faster than the previHollinger and McNece (8-4), ous mark. Her other wins in the 400 Stehman and Yunginger (8-1), and Aaron Rugh and Bitting (8-4). “The number two doubles team of Evan Stehman and Luke Yunginger had a fantastic week,” said Hoffmaster, who also noted that Bitting, Aaron Rugh, and Noah Hoffmaster played well interchangeably at No. 3 doubles. “We finish with three strong opponents in Manheim Central, Pequea Valley, and E-Town and we will have a winning season and at least four more wins than last year.” TRACK Both the boy’s and girls’ track teams improved to 3-0 on the season with wins over Annville-Cleona last Monday. (1:00.5), as well as the 200 (25.5), added to a 6-2 advantage in the individual races for the lady Indians. Alexandria Daly (18.5) won the 110 hurdles with other winners including Hadley Shoaf (5:54.9) in the 1600, Myra Naqvi (2:35) in the 800, Janelle Brinser (31-5.75) in the triple jump, and Hannah McNece (108-3) in the javelin. Donegal also went 2-1 in the relays with Ella DeBruin, Amanda Fry, Keri Anderson, and Naqvi winning the 3200 in 11:31.7, while in the 1600 it was Sarah Hinkel, Anderson, Reign Medina, and Naqvi running a track best time of 4:38.3. The boys also had strong showing, going 5-3 in the individual races where two runners claimed double victories. Aedan Wilkinson won the 110 hurdles in 16.7 and also posted the winning time of 44.1 in the 300 hurdles while Jared Collazo won both the 100 and 200 with respective times of 11.0, and 23.1 and Logan Fry won the 1600 in 4:59.9. Going 2-1 in the relays, the 3200 team of Hunter Gehman, Logan Fry, Brock Overlander, and Ryan Zuch ran a 9:57.8 for first place and Collazo teamed with Camden Palmer, Jack Dearborn, and Matthew Jackson to win the 400, finishing in 46.0. In the field events, two other Donegal athletes recorded multiple wins as well with Porter Scott logging a length of 41-2 in the triple jump and then clearing 6-2 in the high jump while Cael Rapp tossed the shot 41-10 for the win and was tops in the javelin throw with a distance of 170-10. SOFTBALL Donegal’s girls continued their run at perfection with four wins over a period of five days, improving to 9-0 in the process. Beginning with a 5-0 shutout of Warwick on Saturday, April 6, the ladies went on to win on three consecutive days beginning with a 10-4 victory over Annville-Cleona last Monday, a 9-3 defeat of ELCO, and a 10-2 win over Lancaster Mennonite. Sierra Neiss surrendered only two hits to Warwick while striking out 16 as the lady Indians got to starting pitcher Katelyn Minney for nine hits in a game that was only 1-0 until Donegal broke things wide open in the sixth. Scoring four runs, the Indians expanded on a 1-0 lead from the second inning and Warwick did not have an answer. After a Stephanie Reider (2-3, RBI) single to start the second, Neiss (1-3, RBI) doubled to right, scoring Reider for the early lead. In the sixth, singles by Morgan Biesecker (1-3), Maddie Gohn (1-3), Reider, and Morgan Creek (1-3, RBI) along with a double by Summer Steffy (2-3, RBI) gave the Indians all the insurance they needed.

I love what the bureaus will be presenting,” said Royal. “They will talk about all the special things in their areas, and nobody knows their particular destination better than they do.” Hungry attendees will find at least seven food trucks selling a variety of items, including Auntie Anne’s, Au-Sam’s Trolley Stop, Kunzler Rolling Grill, K’s Kitchen, Mad Dash Artisan Grilled Cheese, Smoothie King, and Waffle Mamas. Camp Invention To Offer Local Events
NetCo Dance Company will present “Moving Past” on April 27 at the Ware Center in Lancaster. The show will explore historical and current social issues. By Dayna M. Reidenouer
In 2004, dancers Jennifer Berlet and Cynthia Nehr, along with a dance student and several of their friends, formed Net Co Dance Company. “NetCo” stands for “Network of Community.” “More than 30 people from all around Lancaster County have been involved as members over the years. They come from various backgrounds. Most everybody has a dance background, but we’ve had people who do martial arts or are competition cheerleaders,” Berlet said. She pointed out that early dance troupes attempted to make everyone look and dance the same, but NetCo was created to be different. “I look very much at the individual, their personality and charisma. I want them to be themselves doing the movement. Diversity strengthens the community.” Because of the diversity of participants, NetCo shows use ballet technique as their basis, but with a modern dance twist. Accompaniment tends to lean toward instrumental, with compositions by Philip Glass, Glenn Kotche, and others. Berlet described NetCo shows as avant-garde, quirky, and somewhat feminist, while having a social justice outlook. For the company’s grand performance on Saturday, April 27, a show called “Moving Past” has been created. Immigration issues will be highlighted during the show’s six pieces, which Berlet has coordinated with guest choreographer Franklin & Marshall College professor Pamela Veil. “Our theme runs parallel to what’s happening in the world and newspaper headlines,” Berlet remarked. She noted that during one of the pieces, President John F. Kennedy’s televised address to the nation on civil rights on June 11, 1963, will accompany the dance. “It was right when three
black students were going to attend the University of Alabama and needed protection,” Berlet said. She expressed her frustration that race issues are still a part of today’s culture. “We still see a divided nation,” she said. “But when you strip away … all the adjectives to describe people, we’re pretty much the same underneath.” Another piece, titled “Tunnel Vision,” will be a truly multimedia production, with the use of music, video, and confetti. The images will highlight the Berlin Wall, Ellis Island, and the #MeToo movement, asking the question, “How far have we really come?” “We get fixated on one point and everything else disappears,” Berlet commented. “I think there are lots of other issues that need to be addressed. If we open our eyes and looking into the periphery, we can see other solutions.” As 2019 marks the 15th anniversary of NetCo’s forming, Berlet said the creation of “Moving Past” was a direct response to the company’s first show, “Moving Toward Yourself.” “That show was more personal,” she stated. “Now, this show has a broader scope, and I’m moving past myself.” “Moving Past” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on April 27 at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster. The doors will open at 7 p.m. Seating is by reservation only, and tickets may be purchased by visiting www.ArtsMU.com. Proceeds from the event will be used to produce future shows, and Berlet is already planning auditions for next season. They will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, at Evolution Power Yoga, 515 Harrisburg Ave., Lancaster. Anyone interested in auditioning or learning more about NetCo Dance Company may email NetCoDance@icloud.com.

Camp Invention, a nationally recognized, nonprofit summer enrichment camp program, will visit the local area. A program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Camp Invention challenges children in kindergarten through grade six to find their inner inventor by learning the process of innovation. Each year, the program features a new curriculum inspired by world-changing inventors - the NIHF inductees. Using hands-on activities, Camp Invention aims to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning; build confidence, leadership, perseverance, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills; and encourage entrepreneurship in a fun and engaging environment. Camp Invention will be held at three area locations. South Eastern Intermediate School, Fawn Grove, will host a camp from Monday, June 10, through Thursday, June 13. A second session will be held at Cornwall Elementary School from Monday, July 8, through Friday, July 12. Finally, a camp will be offered at LancasterLebanon IU 13 from Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19. This year’s Supercharged curriculum features several video challenges from inductees that encourage children to be confident in
their ideas and explore their innovativeness. Hands-on activities include Innovation Force, Deep Sea Mystery, Farm Tech, and DIY Orbot. Activities will range from digging up fossils and inventing island survival tools to learning how to manage a farm and reverse engineering a remote-controlled robot. At the end of the program, each camper will bring home a robot. All local Camp Invention programs are facilitated and taught by certified educators who reside and teach in the community.
