Fun for everyone at Spring Fling
BY CATHY MOLITORIS“This will be an opportunity for families to take their kids to a fun event, for people to eat good food, listen to live music and learn more about the people at ExHaLTT,” said Jill Thomasson, describing the Spring Fling Festival Fundraiser. The event will be held on Friday, April 5, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Ironstone Ranch at Stone Gables Estate, 1 Hollinger Lane, Elizabethtown.
The event will feature a wide variety of activities, including field games such as tug of war, sack races, relay races, ring toss and other carnival games and a moon bounce inflatable, Thomasson said. Dancers from ExHaLTT Performing Arts Academy will perform, and social
dance instruction in country line dancing, swing and salsa will be offered.
Food trucks, including Café 301, Sweet & Salty Handcrafted Rolled Ice Cream and Mocha Motion Coffee, will provide a variety of dinner options. Live music will

The event will take place on the Elizabethtown College campus in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, 1 Alpha Drive, Elizabethtown, on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m.
“This will be a great opportunity for parents to bring their kids, because the ballet company will be performing children’s stories,” said Jesse Waters, director of community impact at the college. Stories will be told in Spanish as the dancers perform.
Along with the ballet, the event will feature four local organizations that will spotlight their missions, Waters said. E-Dance Center, the Latino Hispanic American Community Center, La Voz Latina Central and the Spanish American Civic Association will all have tables with information, he noted.
Food trucks, including Fuego Latino and Rita’s Italian Ice, will be on-site as well.
While there is a cost to purchase food, everything else is free. “We’re excited that we have the opportunity to bring
Expanding the vision of Mt. Hope
BY CATHY MOLITORISFor more than 55 years, Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community in Manheim, has been providing skilled nursing and rehabilitation to residents regardless of their ability to pay. Now the nonprofit will serve even more people with its “Hope Expanded Continuing Our Vision: New Cottage Build” project.
The project includes the construction of two duplexes of single-floor independent living cottages, featuring four suitestyle apartments.
To highlight the new project, Mt. Hope will host two kickoff celebrations, where information will be presented about the cottages, their amenities, floor plans, estimated timelines for construction, and ways for the public to support the cause. Each event will feature a lightfare meal as well as the opportunity to learn more about partnering with Mt. Hope for the future.
People may attend a session on Sunday, April 14, at 11:30 a.m. at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 110 Durlach Road, Ephrata, or on Saturday, April 20, at 5 p.m. at Chiques Church, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim.
“One of the most exciting highlights during these two sessions and the week in between is anonymous donors pledged $20,000 as a matching gift, and donations are doubled up to $20,000,” said Kris Wilson, Mt. Hope director of advancement.
The facility began as Mt.
Hope Dunkard Brethren Church Home in 1969 after the Dunkard Brethren Church purchased the Mt. Hope meetinghouse from Chiques Church in 1965 to establish a home for seniors and people with disabilities in need of care. Mt. Hope’s original structure on Mt. Hope Home Road, the Mt. Hope Meetinghouse, was built in 1910 by the Chiques congregation as a place of worship and still stands today.
Ephrata Grace Point purchased the home from the Dunkard Brethren in 2007. Mt. Hope has 50 beds, a full-service rehabilitation and therapy department on-site, and independent living cottages on its campus. “It has been a long-term vision for Mt. Hope to be able to build additional independent living cottages,” Wilson said. “The health care facility completed renovations and upgrades through its 2020 capital campaign, and now is the right time to expand with new cottages.”
Mt. Hope’s mission is to welcome those with limited resources or changing financial circumstances, Wilson said, adding, “Our
ministry and work at Mt. Hope is to serve our community by offering housing options and quality care in a wholesome Christian environment.” Mt. Hope’s mission statement is from Matthew 25:40, where the importance of caring for “the least of these” teaches that everyone deserves compassion, she shared.
Jeff Sterner, Mt. Hope board member, noted that the cottage project is a costly one. “We need your help to complete this project that is estimated to cost $1.2 million,” he said. “Mt. Hope has been good stewards of its resources and has over $200,000 in reserve to get this project started. The project is now fully designed, with land development approvals granted by Rapho Township and completed design drawings ready for permit application. What we need now is the community’s support to raise the remaining funds to get these cottages constructed.”
Space is limited for the kickoff events, and Wilson suggests reserving seats by emailing advancement@ mthopenazarene.org or calling 717-682-8026 by Saturday, April 6.

You can sit and observe and enjoy the dance performances and live music and take it all in, or you can get out there and play.”

Auction will support Marietta Community House
BY CATHY MOLITORISFor more than 100 years, the Marietta Community House has served as a hub for organizations, special events and community programs. The nonprofit will hold a fundraiser to support its mission, and you’re invited.
A Spring Evening in Marietta Benefit Auction will be held in the rear studio of the Marietta Community House, 264 W. Market St., Marietta, on Saturday, April 27, from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
The evening will begin with a cocktail hour and appetizers as guests enjoy live music by Leo DiSanto and peruse items available in a silent auction. The event will also feature a sit-
down dinner followed by a live auction.
“We are working with Joe Hess, Cracked Pepper Catering from Lancaster,” said Audrey Kushner Pombo, auction chair and treasurer of the Marietta Community House, noting
that the menu will include salad, roasted chicken breast and seasonal sides, with a vegan/vegetarian option available as well.
“Desserts will be an assortment of different sweet treats provided by Kristen’s Katering in Columbia.”
