State Recognizes Conservation Efforts At Historic Poole Forge BY FRANCINE FULTON
Although Historic Poole Forge is known for its history and scenic value, it is also a site that is dedicated to environment and conservation efforts, particularly those that involve the Conestoga Creek, which runs through the property. Because of a major project that included creek reconstruction work, Poole Forge was featured in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s
Partners for Fish and Wildlife 2019 Annual Report. The report recognizes only one conservation project from each state. “It’s a pretty big deal that they chose us as the project to highlight from the state of Pennsylvania, said Dawn Rise Ekdahle, executive director of Poole Forge. “I am interested in the historic aspect (of the location), but my background is in ecology and the environment. I have a strong passion to improve the environment. See Poole Forge pg 7

Productions on the Beyond Amazing tour,â€? reported Feveryear. “She spreads a message through Christian country music ‌ about how she can be on television and still exemplify Christ.â€? Although the conference is geared to women in their teens through 30s, Feveryear noted that there will be topics that appeal to older women as well. Those who purchase tickets will be able to view the conference for 24 hours following the event. Sanctuary in Manheim, who pointed out that Gila monsters have been part of all the virtual programs the organization has done since COVID19 restrictions kept him from doing live shows. Rothacker sees benefits in the change. “We don’t usually bring venomous lizards, but now that we’re doing it virtually, (students) can be up close to the nose of a Gila monster and actually see the beady texture of their skin without liability or concern for the schools or teachers.” To allow Rothacker to bring more information about a number of different types of reptiles, including box turtles, boa constrictors, alligators up to three feet, geckos, and tortoises, to students from prekindergarten through college, across the county and beyond, the organization instituted the Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary Scholarship Fund in 2019. Rothacker reported that the fund was initiated by grants from Refreshing Mountain Camp and Ephrata National Bank. Rothacker explained that as a nonprofit that serves nonprofits, the scholarship
ONE LITTLE FLU SHOT CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
Protect yourself and those around you. This year, it’s more important than ever to protect yourself and the people you care about from the flu. It’s possible to get both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time — and to spread those viruses to the people around you. But you can greatly reduce your chance of catching the flu and spreading it to others by getting a flu shot. And if you do catch the flu, the vaccine can reduce the severity of your illness. We’re fighting two health threats this season, so every little bit helps. One little shot can make a big difference.

to each audience,” said Rothacker. “With elementary or preschool, it is heavier on interactive hand motions and repeating words.” For older students, Rothacker may tackle weightier subjects. The saga Rothacker calls “Our Virtual Journey” began when the state was shut down by COVID-19 restrictions in March. “May through September is our main season for programs,” said Rothacker, who noted that of 200 yearly shows, about 150 occur in spring and summer. “Our season was crushed,” he said. The situation sent Rothacker on a mission to provide contact-free safe options that will give the schools some of the tools they need for environmental science supplements that include classroom visitors. Rothacker was initially hesitant to go virtual, but he moved forward, investing in lighting, a greenscreen, and other electronic equipment, and he soon began to recognize the power of virtual presentations. “With alligators, they have more than a thousand sensory

organs that look like little black dots on their faces and tongues,” he said. “In person, the closest our audience gets is about 6 feet, but (virtually) when we do a closeup, they can see the little black dots.” Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit reptile rescue and education group that has been based in Lancaster County since 2004. fund could benefit organizations such as schools, churches, and Scouting groups, for which the up to $400 pricetag of a Forgotten Friends program could be an issue. “We aren’t $1,000, but we aren’t $50,” said Rothacker, who noted that the main revenue source for the rescue is programming. “We have so many good groups that want to host our programs,” he said. Rothacker has a particular interest in how virtual reptile programs can help schools fulfill environmental science curriculums. “ We wanted scholarship funds available because so many of the schools are trying to figure out day to day,” he said. “We want to alleviate some costs by offering free or discounted programs through our scholarship fund.” Rothacker explained that partial scholarships could lower the cost of a program significantly. According to Rothacker, virtual shows are similar to live shows, but they offer an additional multimedia presentation. Different programs are developed for high school and college-age students. “I take a program and present it differently

EXPLORE Across Town, Across PA According to many travel polls, travelers are choosing small-town destinations for getaways and vacations. Not just now, because of COVID, but into the spring and summer of 2021. Fewer crowds, less traffic, unique culture, and friendly locals make visiting obscure locations more desirable than ever. As the editor of Where & When Pennsylvania, a publication of Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. (EPC), I quickly learned that many of us have little idea of what’s going on in our surrounding area, let alone across the commonwealth. That’s why we’re launching a new series in our
community papers called EXPLORE Across Town, Across PA. Each month we’ll feature a town in our coverage area, as well as a destination somewhere in Pennsylvania. Along the way, we hope to show that you don’t have to travel far to find great restaurants, unique shops, amazing outdoor locations, and world-class historical sites. Traveling locally can have a big impact on small businesses without having a big impact on your wallet. Take a train trip through the Pocono Mountains on the Historic Stourbridge Line, visit the Jimmy Stewart Museum and the iconic actor’s hometown, see the amazing architectural feats of Frank Lloyd Wright, and hear

Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), Keystone Chapter recently announced that the 2020 Craft Professional of the Year Award in carpentry has been presented to Mark Rineer of Lancaster, an employee of Wohlsen Construction Company in Lancaster. Award criteria for the Craft Professional of the Year Award includes the nominee’s mastery of skills, safety performance, job site performance and productivity, leadership, and on-the-job body of work. Approximately 90% of the award recipient’s daily job duties must include daily use of tools or equipment, and the recipient must currently possess a journeyperson level designation. Rineer is a member of ABC
Keystone’s 2015 graduating apprenticeship class. As an apprentice at ABC, he competed in the 2015 ABC National Craft Competition and won the gold medal in carpentry. Rineer is also a two-time winner of Wohlsen’s Craftsman of the Year Award. He earned these awards and accolades with his craftsmanship, commitment to safety, quality control, and strong leadership abilities, noted ABC Keystone. ABC Keystone Apprenticeship & Training Trust (KATT) also made an announcement regarding the graduation of 92 craft professionals in seven apprenticeship trades. These trades are carpentry, construction craft laborer, electrical, heavy equipment operator, HVAC, plumbing, and sheet metal. The ABC
KATT manages and operates nine Pennsylvania-registered apprenticeship programs sponsored by ABC Keystone. Several apprentices won the High Achiever Award for earning the highest grade point average in their trades. The local recipients include Kyle Armer of Willow Street, heavy equipment operator; Jeremy Harting of Denver, electrical; and Maria Sholly of Lititz, plumbing. The graduating apprentices earned a certificate of completion from ABC KATT
celebrating classroom and hands-on training. Those who completed their on-the-job training hours will also receive journeyperson certificates from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. Apprenticeship, with its combination of classroom training and on-the-job experience, provides the upcoming craft professional opportunities to develop the skills needed for a career in the construction industry. ELANCO Library Fall Fundraiser In Progress Extraordinary Give on Friday, Nov. 20. Martin noted that the library has taken measures to cut costs based on a plan to reasonably contain costs put forth by Smith. “This is a very giving community,” said Martin, who noted that last year’s appeal raised $25,000 to purchase a desperately needed new roof for the building at 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland. “Thank you, everyone, for your generous support of our new roof,” said Martin, who noted that this year the board hopes to raise that same

Josh Martin, president of the board of the ELANCO Library, is impressed with the way ELANCO director Heather Smith and her staff have handled what he refers to as “a strange year.” “It has been a challenging time, and we’ve been forced to do a lot of creative thinking, but Heather and the staff have really risen to the occasion,” said Martin. Among the steps the library took to continue to serve patrons are curbside pickup and appointments as regulations allowed and, eventually, semi-permanent plexiglass barriers when the library reopened. “They have gone above and beyond in terms of safety protocol,” said Martin. In spite of the pandemic, library use by the ELANCO community has been brisk. “In a normal year, we circulate about 150,000 items,” said Martin. “It’s amazing (how) many people utilized materials even with all the restrictions in place.” Martin reported that in the past few months, with just curbside and appointment-only service, the library still circulated more than 5,000 items a month. “People are calling in and placing their to-go orders,” he said. “Our staff pulls the items and bags them, and people can have the materials they want without ever needing to get out of their car.” During this time of uncertainty, Martin noted that the dedication of those associated with the organization has not wavered. “We are really committed as a board, and certainly Heather and her staff (are committed) to continue to provide people with the materials and resources they need,” he said. Martin noted that the library serves an important role in the community, one that has only been heightened by COVID-19 restrictions. “There are people who really depend on the library for their information, and we want to make sure they can get it, especially during difficult times,” he said. “As more parents and students are becoming homeschoolers in a way they thought they never would, we want to be accessible to them as well. We are still a resource for the whole community. We are doing everything we can to stay open and let people know we are here and available for them.”
To help the library continue to be a resource, the board has set a special fundraising goal for 2020. “This is when we would be gearing up for our auction, which we can’t have (this year),” said Martin, who noted that instead, the board delayed the organization’s usual summer appeal letter until fall and is offering three giving options. “(Area residents) can mail in a check or they can go online and donate,” said Martin of the first two options. The third option is to give online when the library participates in the

We find ourselves in the middle of another tension-filled election season a at the end of the difficult year that 2020 h has been. That is why we are hosting an Election Eve Prayer and Worship Night, not to endorse a political candidate or party, but to remind us all that no matter the results of the next day’s election, Jesus Christ is still the King of Kings. Join us for an evening of prayer, worship, and a message by Pastor Phil Walck of Mount Airy Church.
Due to the ongoing pandemic and to ensure the health and safety of the community, Hospice & Community Care held its annual Labor Day Auction virtually from Sept. 1 through 15 and raised more than $450,000. The proceeds will go toward Hospice & Community Care’s work in providing end-of-life care and support to patients and their families, regardless of their ability to pay, according to Bonnie Jess Lopane, vice president and chief development officer. During the virtual
auction, more than 960 people from across the country placed bids on vacations, jewelry, handmade quilts, art, sports memorabilia, used cars and more. In addition, Hospice & Community Care’s Day of Care Auction, where participants buy days or weeks of hospice care to be given to families in need, raised more than $31,000. In support of the Virtual Labor Day Auction, Hospice & Community Care’s volunteers helped to transport items and served as social media ambassadors.

Poole Forge from pg 1 The project was a collaboration between the Lancaster Conservation District, U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. “Last year, I applied to the Lancaster Conservation District for a grant to do some creek reconstruction to help (prevent) erosion and to protect the large sycamore trees that we have along the creek at the back of the park, adjacent to our new Nature Trail area,” Ekdahle explained. “We won the grant, which was funded through Exelon, for $57,000.” The work was performed by the Fish and Wildlife Service with the help of Pheasants
Forever, a nonprofit conservation organization. Approximately 900 feet of the Conestoga Creek was reconstructed through the installation of mudsills and rock and hemlock log structures, which protect the creek bank and trees along the banks and prevent erosion. “This created a new habitat for fish and freshwater organisms, better aeration for the water and cleaner water with less silt and debris from the banks,” said Ekdahle. “The water was immediately cleaner, and we are already seeing a more diverse fish and wildlife habitat. So, doing the project has been a tremendous
success.” Nathaniel Straw from the Lancaster County Conservation District and Adam Smith from U.S. Fish and Wildlife were the project leaders. “They came back and did a children’s ecology program in the summer of 2019,” Ekdahle noted. “We had about 25 to 30 kids attend, and they taught them the importance of water quality and improving the creek.” The work at the site also included three other
complementary projects. “With the Chesapeake Bay Alliance funding and volunteers, we planted hundreds of native trees and shrubs,” Ekdahle noted. “I applied for a Sierra Club grant and we won $500 to create a hummingbird/pollinator garden to go along the Nature Trail.” She said that the efforts are important because the Conestoga Creek that runs through Poole Forge is at the headwaters of the Conestoga River, which eventually makes
its way to the Chesapeake Bay. “This is especially critical in our role to clean up the waterways that travel into the Chesapeake Bay,” Ekdahle said. “ We are hoping to inspire others to do the same.” Poole Forge is located at 1940 Main St., Narvon. WITF encourages caregivers to view the programs along with young learners, so they can talk about the programs to help their child understand the educational concepts. Weekly extension activities are available at www.witf.org/learningathome in English and Spanish. After a child and caregiver watch a selected episode, the guide offers caregivers a conversation or project to try with their child. As teachers seek additional online materials to connect with their curriculum, WITF offers thousands of videos and activities ready for their lesson plans. WITF has a series of recorded

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) runs in families. Bill Blees, 56, of Manheim Township inherited it from his father, who died at age 60. Three of Bill’s half-siblings have the disease, and his children are at risk of having it as well. As the name implies, in PKD, the two bean-shaped organs that filter the blood and pass waste as urine are riddled with
cysts. Inside and outside, Bill’s kidneys have developed growths the size of grapes. Each kidney is the size of a football. They should only be the size of his fist. “He’s in a lot of pain. His kidneys are pushing on the other organs, said Bill’s wife, Diane. “He can’t hold his grandchildren or play with them like he wants to. Bill has worked for Yellow Freight for several decades. Because he is a truck driver, he is unable to take pain medication stronger than acetaminophen. More concerning than the pain, though, is the loss of renal function. Bill’s kidneys are functioning at only 15%, which means he is a candidate for dialysis. Unfortunately, as soon as Bill begins dialysis, he will be

“We’ve been doing everything possible - placing yard signs, printing shirts, hiring a billboard - that we can do to find him a kidney before he goes on dialysis, Diane remarked. Bill’s insurance will cover the cost of the organ harvest and the transplant surgery, but it will not cover the income lost during the donor’s or Bill’s recoveries. However, when someone with PKD responded to a sign and shared information about the transplant process with Bill and Diane, they included a referral to Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), which provides fundraising support and assistance to people who need lifesaving transplants. Through COTA, the Blees family is raising funds to help the donor cover copays, gas costs for hospital and testing visits, lost income, and more. “If we don’t use all the money, we have the option to donate it to another person,

unable to work. The other option is a kidney transplant. Diane noted that transplant recipients are not allowed to be added to the transplant list until their kidney function drops to 20%. The rationale is that kidneys are expected to last 10 years, so delaying a transplant may give an individual more time before another solution is needed. Bill could wait five to eight years before organs from a deceased donor become available. However, the transplant of a kidney from a living donor could happen in just three months. Because she does not have Bill’s O+ blood type, Diane had hoped to participate in a paired donation, through which she would donate to another recipient and then another donor would provide a kidney to Bill. However, she experienced a serious illness five years ago that now excludes her from donating. Instead, she has campaigned to find other individuals willing to make a donation.

Virtual Parade Of Homes To Kick Off
R063945
The Building Industry Association of Lancaster County (BIA) has announced that the annual Virtual Parade of Homes will kick off on Saturday, Oct. 24. The 2020 Parade of Homes will showcase more than $10 million in new home construction and remodeling in Lancaster and Lebanon counties, incorporating the latest in design, decorating, and trends - including smart home technology. This year’s parade will feature 18 single-family homes, townhomes/duplexes, and remodeling projects. Sponsored by Fulton Bank and UGI Utilities and presented by BIA, the Lancaster/Lebanon Parade of Homes will be delivered virtually utilizing 3-D technology. This technology will provide a room-by-room view of the designs and details in each home. Homes are classified into divisions by price and judged by a panel of building and industry experts with other homes in the same price division using a numerical scoring system, with awards for Best of Show, Kitchen, Bath, Interior Design, Exterior, Decorated, and Landscaping. The topscoring single-family/whole house remodel and townhome/duplex homes each receive the Fulton Bank Award. In addition, individuals may cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award. Those who vote will also have the chance to win prizes. Awards are to be presented on Friday, Oct. 23, via a Facebook event. The recording can be seen at www.lancasterpa radeofhomes.com. The list of winners will also be published on the Parade of Homes website beginning on Oct. 24. Detailed information on all of the home entries will be available at the aforementioned website on Oct. 24. Parade of Homes Guidebooks with the same information were mailed to more than 100,000 households in Lancaster and Lebanon counties. More information on BIA, including a list of local contractors, is available at www.lancasterbuilders.org or by calling 717-569-2674.

Gonzalez Notches Hat Trick in Spartans’ Win BY ARA GRIGORIAN
The Garden Spot girls’ soccer team claimed its first LancasterLebanon League victory of the season, shutting out McCaskey 6-0 on Tuesday, October 13. The Spartans improved to 1-6-0 in league play (1-7-0 overall). Freshman Ashton Gonzalez registered a hat trick as the Spartans out-shot the visiting Red Tornado 11-3. Gonzalez, who scored eight minutes into the match, made it 2-0 in the 14th minute. Following goals by senior Lauren Wolfe and junior Taylor Soehner, Gonzalez again put the ball in the net, making it 5-0 and completing the hat trick. Soehner also had an assist, as did Rylee Brullo and Ella Wilson while Avery Stauffer assisted on two goals. Becca Witman’s goal five minutes into the second half capped the scoring. Kylie Weinhold grabbed two saves and Lindsey Watkins recorded one in the shutout effort. In Monday night’s Section Two match at Manheim Central, the Garden Spot defense along with Watkins (five saves) held the Barons scoreless until three minutes into the second half.
Goals by Summer Bates and Tylee Stauffer in the first 10 minutes of the second half lifted Central to a 3-0 win. FIELD HOCKEY With first place on the line in Section Two field hockey, the Spartans eked out a 1-0 victory at Elco on Monday, Oct. 12. Two weeks earlier, at home, the Spartans lost 3-1 to the Raiders. With Monday’s win they pulled even with Elco at 7-1-0 in league play. It was the first loss of the year for the Raiders (8-1-0 overall). Erin Gonzalez scored at the 12:42 mark of the fourth quarter. Both sides managed only three shots on goals with Spot’s Bryna Kelly (3 saves) earning a shutout. BOYS’ SOCCER Playing three games in three days, the Spartans’ boys’ soccer team claimed two Section Two victories, improving to 4-3-1 in the league (5-3-1 overall). The third game of the busy week was at Elizabethtown where Spot posted a 2-1 victory. “Our defense was able to hold on and control the ball,” said head coach Ken Herr. Luke Steiner put the Spartans on the board first with a goal in the 16th minute. . “Gage Bills turned the corner

on E-town defenders and played a through ball across the box,” Herr described. “It connected with the run of Luke Steiner.” The Spartans scored their second goal on a set piece eight minutes into the second half. “The corner kick created an opportunity when Nick Gleason’s cross found the head of Joe Sharp,” Herr added. Spot keeper Samuel Armbruster recorded four saves. “The outstanding midfield play and solid defending earned Chris Wehn and Maxwell Leininger ‘Men of the Match’ honors.” In a wild match that ended in overtime, the Spartans came up short at McCaskey on Tuesday. Wehn’s goal with only one minute remaining in regulation evened the score at 2-2. The celebration was relatively short-lived as Leo Dunia scored the golden goal for the Red Tornado one minute into extra time, giving McCaskey the 3-2 victory. It was a back-and-forth match as Griffin Witmer first put the Spartans ahead 25 minutes in. Sam Hershey scored the equalizer 11 minutes later and Dunia put the home team up 2-1 six
minutes into the second half. Gleason registered two assists. Playing at home on Monday, Oct. 12, the Spartans survived a wild second half to beat Manheim Central 4-2. Five goals scored in the final 40 minutes of a game that was 1-0 Garden Spot at intermission. The Spartans built a two-goal lead courtesy of George Rohrbaugh, who scored off assists by Wehn and Bills. The Barons answered with two goals of their own before Rohrbaugh made it a hat trick and a 3-2 Spot lead in the 53rd minute. Bills added another goal with eight minutes to play. In fact, the goal by Bills was on a penalty kick when Rohrbaugh was attacking into the penalty box to tack on a fourth goal. CROSS COUNTRY The Garden Spot boys raised their record to 8-3 and the girls’ squad improved to 6-5 in a Section Two race at Manheim Central on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The boys kept a steady pace and topped the Barons 21-34 while outrunning the Braves 21-38. Leading the pack was Zane Kauffman with a first-place
finish at 17:46. Grabbing fourth and fifth-place finishes were Alex McFalls (18:18) and Josiah Martin (18:19) while sophomore Alan Krock (18:35) and senior Dakota Cox (18:54) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Finn Wenrich (19:49, 14th) and Will Culbert (20:16, 15th) helped the cause as well. In the girls’ race, both Central and Spot dominated Octorara 15-50 while the Barons edged the Spartans 20-39. Among the top-10 finishers, Cloe Martin earned fourth place with her time of 22:32, Nicole Kelch (22:57) was sixth, and Amanda Coblentz finished 10th (23:36). Samantha Davis (26:08, 14th) and Miryam Ambriz (26:13, 15th) also finished strong. FOOTBALL John Dykie compiled 137 yards of offense, including a rushing touchdown and a receiving one. In a game where the Spartans (1-2 in league, 1-3 overall) never gave up, the result was a tough 35-23 Section Two loss at Lebanon on Friday, October 9. Quarterback Jesse Martin had 152 aerial yards and churned up 71 yards on the ground (24 carries). His quick toss to Derrick
Lambert in the first period put the Spartans up 6-0. Walker Martin’s 32-yard field goal made it 9-0 in the second quarter before 21 unanswered points - all on big plays. The Cedars (2-1, 3-1 overall) scored on three Isiah Rodriguez touchdown passes. Of his eight completions on the night, half went for scores, including a 56-yarder to Rufe (232 receiving yards). Martin’s second touchdown of the game opened the scoring after the break, cutting the Cedars’ lead to 21-16. He hit Dykie on a 32-yard score. Dykie scored on a 31-yard rushing TD in the fourth. GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL Garden Spot improved to 9-0, defeating Lebanon and Cocalico on the road this past week - both by 3-0 scores. Logan Martin commanded 14 kills and a block in Monday’s win at Lebanon. The Spartans won 25-13, 26-24 and 25-11. Abby O’Neill added 25 assists while Allie King finished with 10 digs. King and Elyse Mundorff each served two aces. In Tuesday’s triumph, the Spartans posted winning scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-20.

Dear Brother or Sister in Christ,
Across the country, rioters are burning bibles and American flags. They are burning churches, businesses, and government buildings. They are a acking and bea ng bystanders that don’t agree with them. Radical mayors and governors are encouraging the rioters by defunding police departments, resul ng in rising crime rates na onwide. Worse, they’ve exploited the coronavirus epidemic as an excuse to force churches to close while leaving Walmarts, casinos, liquor stores and abor on clinics open. Each of us has the power to stop this.
In the United States, 40% of Chris ans do not vote.
If God did not want us to have an ac ve role in His plans, He would not have called us to ac on repeatedly throughout Scripture. Again and again, from Genesis to Revela on, He calls on His people to act, to stand against evil, and to stand up for the needy and vulnerable (Isaiah 6:8, Ma hew 28:18-20, Ephesians 5:11, Proverbs 29:2, Proverbs 31:8-9). If we sit on the sidelines while every good thing our na on stands for is destroyed, we will have violated far more Scripture than the handful of passages that may be misused to jus fy inac on. Chris ans o en mes ignore ge ng involved in the vo ng process for several reasons: (1) they don’t believe their vote counts, (2) they have been misinformed, or (3) they have never done it; therefore, it’s hard to break the ice. We encourage you to pray and ask God to help you break free from these fears. We are all called upon to do the right thing. The hard part is finding the courage to stand up, to stand in the gap. However, standing in the gap is the only way to stop this storm. Many Chris ans do not vote because of pressure from their church and community. It is me to fully reverse that habit. We are all called upon to do the right thing. The hard part is finding the courage to stand up, to stand in the gap. Ini ally, you may be judged for doing so. But standing in the gap for good is the only way to stop this storm.
Here’s what you can do today to save the country from violent mobs, immorality, and evil: Apples Gala, Honeycrisp, McIntosh,

Women who enjoy singing are invited to attend a virtual open house hosted by women’s a capella show chorus Vocal Harmonix, the Lancaster chapter of Sweet Adelines (SA) International, on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. The approximately 75-minute “mini-class” will showcase what the barbershop craft is about and provide some history and insight into Vocal Harmonix, formerly known as Red Rose City Chorus. Prior to the March shutdown, the group rehearsed at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster. Since then, rehearsals have been held via Zoom. On Oct. 26, guests will get a look into what a typical “Zoom-hearsal” looks like and will be able to view videos of performances by the awardwinning chorus. How exactly does a choir rehearsal take place via video conferencing? With some flexibility, Vocal Harmonix member Julie Pedelini explained. “It is not perfect, but we are making the best of it. Obviously, we have not been able to be together in person since March, but it was important to us that we keep the social connection and be able to continue our learning and singing, even if we are remote from each other,” she said. “Although we can sing ‘together,’ we obviously cannot hear all of us at once and hear the ringing harmony as if we were in the same room. We typically sing against some of our pre-recorded performances, and we also have learning tracks we can sing against.” The group had been recording its in-person rehearsals in order to fine tune the finished songs. Those recordings are now proving helpful in another way. Additionally, Zoom
