Saint Joseph’s University expands offerings to Lancaster County

Second Lancaster breakfast held table groups to pray on a subject and then concluded by leading the gathering of more than 400 in prayer. Master of ceremonies Tracey C. Jones, president of Tremendous Leadership and T3 Solutions, opened the event, saying, “The Lancaster Prayer Breakfast endeavors to further the rich heritage and spiritual guidance handed down by the Founding Fathers … and magnify Jesus Christ through unified prayers.” Worship music was provided by Dave Ross, pastor of worship ministries at Calvary Church, who read from

Joseph DiAngelo, dean of the Erivan K. Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, is excited about what the school can bring to Lancaster County residents as the organization looks forward to merging with the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, 850 Greenfield Road, Lancaster, in January. “Several years ago … our strategic planning was looking to expand into health care,” recalled DiAngelo.

“We were interested in affiliating with programs that are already accredited, and we were interested in nursing.” After a successful partnership with Lancaster General Hospital, providing business courses for doctors and senior administrators, strategists saw possibilities in the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, but DiAngelo sees the acquisition as bringing opportunities to Lancaster residents. “Nothing is going to change in Lancaster,” said DiAngelo. The goal, rather, is to embrace what exists

Tim Farrell, one of the leaders of the Lancaster Prayer Breakfast, which was held for the second year on Nov. 3, said that when the committee organized under the Leaders of Faith Foundation, the goal was to make the event unique, with prayer as the key component. The group decided to focus on six areas - business, government, art/media, education, family, and church - and ask a community leader to lead prayer on each of those segments. Each speaker asked

Lancaster Prayer Breakfast from pg 1 Philippians 2 and led three songs. Don Hoover, retired CEO and current facilitator of Business Community Network, prayed for the business community, noting that Jesus said, “I must be about My Father’s business.” “It’s crucial for us to understand God’s purpose and will for us as individuals,” he said. Sen. Ryan Aument asked attendees to join him in lifting up the government - elected and appointed officials, first responders, and the military. “Pray for vision, courage, perseverance, and strength to serve in love and lift up their families and to preserve their marriages,” said Aument. Doug Myer of WDAC prayed for art and media, quoting Franklin Roosevelt’s address to Congress that concluded with the Four Freedoms Speech. Myers focused on the freedoms of speech and expression of every person to worship in his own way. “God help us think clearly, act rightly, and do so in a spirit of love,” he prayed. Beth Haldeman, assistant to the superintendent of the Cocalico School District, prayed for education, with special attention to families, atmosphere, students, teachers,

and staff. She specifically prayed for schools of all types to be “places of enrichment and nourishment.” Walt Mueller, president of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, spoke about sin, brokenness, and the need for a redeemer and new life, and he pointed out current cultural issues facing families. “We are here by God’s design in this moment,” he said. “We pray that You would fill all families with a hunger to live Your will … to understand our responsibilities before You. May we seek to live out Your kingdom way in our families to Your glory,” he said. Kevin Eshleman, lead pastor of Ephrata Community Church, spoke about Jesus’

prayer in John 17. “Jesus prays for Himself and the purposes of God, then for the disciples and then for us all those who would be His followers,” Eshleman said. Eshleman focused on unity among the churches in Lancaster County. “I want to pray with thanksgiving because God has been doing a work among us, bringing (area) congregations of different expressions (of faith) together under the banner of the Lord Jesus Christ,” he said. The prayer breakfast is scheduled to be held on the first Friday of November each year. More information may be found at https://leadersof faith.org/event/2023-lan caster-prayer-breakfast.

Cosmic Adventures will bring a 20-foot-high inflatable dome to the church. “There’s a door that zips open and closed, and we will be able to seat 40 people inside,” said Shetter, who pointed out that the night sky will be projected onto the ceiling of the dome. “(The presenter) has the ability to maneuver it from day to night and across the sky to show the progression over the course of the evening,” Shetter explained. According to Shetter, this is not the first time the inflatable planetarium has visited Zion Lutheran. “(Cosmic Adventures) did a different program for us a few years ago,” said Shetter, who recalled that for the “Stars and S’mores” presentation, telescopes were set up in the church parking lot, and fire pits were lit for toasting marshmallows. “The presentation was really insightful,” Shetter recalled. Calling the planetarium experience “perfect for this season,” Shetter noted that the focus will be on examining the idea of how the Star of Bethlehem progressed and what the magi saw. “(The presenter) will tell both the biblical

While the 30-minute program is free, it is necessary to register in advance for the event. Readers who wish to attend may register for one of the four showings at www.zionleola.org or by calling the church at 717 -656-9200. Local design studio Lime Creative has announced an initiative called LimeAid to provide no-cost creative services to small, start-up and under-resourced nonprofit organizations and ministries. Conceived by Lime Creative owner and Lancaster native Laura Kline, LimeAid’s focus will be on supporting nonprofit partners for specific projects they designate and define during the application and review process. Kline has nearly two decades of experience working with nonprofits and ministries as a graphic designer, Web designer and developer and marketing and communications consultant. LimeAid provides a cost estimate for each partner ministry’s project, and then

cuts it by 50%, which is Lime Creative’s personal donation to the cause. The remaining 50% of the estimated costs are covered through the generosity of donors, who support individual projects on a case-by-case basis or agree to support LimeAid monthly. The number of ministry partners and projects to be taken on depends on the amount of support raised. Since 2007, Lime Creative has helped nonprofits and small businesses grow by developing brands that speak clearly, create connections and inspire action. For more information about the LimeAid project or to support a current project, visit www.LimeAid.org.

OMPH School students present program about saints Fourth-grade students at Our Mother of Perpetual Help School memorialized the saints who have gone before them with a special presentation to the school community and families on Nov. 1. In preparataion for the event, each student, under the direction of teacher Jennifer Dodson, chose and researched the life of a saint. Students then dressed in costume and told the story of their chosen saint’s life to their schoolmates. Some of the historical

figures featured were St. Anthony of Padua, St. Rose of Lima, St. Maria Goretti and St. Francis of Asissi. OMPH School welcomes children from the local Catholic churches, as well as interested members of the general community. The school is accredited through the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools. For more information, call 717 -738-2414 or visit www.omph school.com.
