More than a year ago, three Little Free Pantry boxes were installed in the area, where individuals and families in need could pick up canned goods, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and other nonperishable food items. Today, those boxes continue to be an important asset to the community. See Food Boxes pg 6

In addition to the traditional favorites like Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties, Girl Scouts are offering a new choice for cookie lovers this year - Adventurefuls, which are brownie cookies topped with caramel-flavored crème. The new cookie, as well as other selections, can be found at Girl Scout cookie booths throughout the area, including the Morgantown Crossing Shopping Center, Crossings Boulevard, Elverson, where cookie booths are open on weekends at Walmart and Lowe’s. cookie, Girl Scout Cookie selections this year include Caramel deLites, which are vanilla cookies topped with caramel and toasted coconut covered in chocolate stripes; Thin Mints, which are chocolate wafers dipped in mint chocolate; Peanut Butter Patties, which are crispy vanilla cookies layered with peanut butter and covered in chocolate; Peanut Butter Sandwich, which are oatmeal cookies with a peanut butter filling; and Shortbreads. Those who visit the booths have an opportunity to donate to Hometown Heroes, a program adopted in 2019 by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP). “ W hen people donate money, we use that money to buy boxes to donate to local places, like the Honey Brook Food Pantry or the Coatesville VA (Veterans Affairs Medical Center),” said Sarah, noting that the troop plans to use proceeds from cookie sales to go camping and to donate to the Honey Brook Food Pantry. “Our next cookie booth will be associated with a food drive at the Elverson-Honey Brook Area EMS on Saturday, Feb. 26, from noon to 3 p.m.,” Sarah added. Elverson-Honey Brook Area EMS, located at 4458 Main St., Elverson, will collect nonperishable food items that day for the Honey Brook Food Pantry. Cookie sales will run through March. Despite the cold, Kate Jones, Mia Gore and Laura Trost, members of Brownie Troop 1905 of Honey Brook, were selling cookies outside Walmart on a recent weekend along with the troop’s cookie sale coordinator Sarah Jones, dubbed the Cookie Mom. “It’s freezing cold, but I love it!” said Mia. According to www.girl scouts.org, the cookie sales primarily help girls to develop five skills: decision making, money management, goal setting, people skills and business ethics. “They learn customer service and to put on a smile,” Sarah said, noting that the most popular cookies sold each year are Thin Mints. “If (people) don’t want to buy cookies, we tell them to have a nice day.” Sarah said that the girls also learn endurance, since they often have to brave the cold to sell cookies when temperatures are below freezing. “They were very excited for today,” she stated. “Yesterday we were at Little Anthony’s, but they were inside.” In addition to the new

music selections explore identity, self-worth, and the earthly struggles that God desires to rescue people from. Several performers will share personal life stories and allegories that connect to themes portrayed throughout the show. The music includes songs by wellknown artists such as Lauren Daigle, We the Kingdom, Hillsong, TobyMac, The Gray Havens, CityAlight, Steffany Gretzinger, Kanye West, and Needtobreathe. Among the dance pieces is one about sirens, the mythological creatures that used their enchanting voices to distract sailors, causing them to stray off course and be lured to their deaths. This story depicts the destruction that temptation can cause when people fail to cry out to God for strength. Jill Hertzog is the show’s artistic director, and Lillian Ortiz is the assistant director. The choreography is by Gavin Haas, Jill Hertzog, Lillian Ortiz, and Caitlin Stoltzfoos. Performing as company dancers are Annika Blake, Sarah Blatt, Jada Correll, McKenna Donaldson, Lincoln Everett, Jazmyne Levengood, Emma Myers, Dorene Stauffer, and Hannah Stoltzfoos.

Anchored Ministries from pg 1 “We set up in two rooms off the cafeteria and we set up dressing rooms with dividers. It literally looks like a boutique,” said Erika. “The teachers are really great in letting (the students) pop out of (class) for a little bit, or they can come during lunch. We tag the dress (or suit), and when they are leaving school, they can come and pick (them) up. We put the items in a garment bag with their name on it.” This year, the public is also invited to donate gift cards that will be given out to students at the boutique through a random drawing. “Whether you find a dress or not, you can enter into a drawing to win a gift card for a local hair salon or for jewelry or a nail certificate (for a manicure),” said Erika. “(We want to provide all of) the extras to help them have a good night.”

All items will be provided by Anchored Ministries free of charge. “Everything is 100 percent free,” said Erika. “A lot of girls wind up donating their dresses back. It’s not required, but if they would like to, they can.” The prom collection is just one of Anchored Ministries’ many charitable programs designed to help the community. Anchored Ministries also owns and operates a mobile clothing closet housed inside a trailer, which has been converted to hold clothing on racks for newborns through adults, along with shoes, toiletries and blankets. The mobile clothing closet stops at various locations, including CrossNet Ministries in New Holland and at the Honey Brook Food Pantry. “We travel to Berks, Chester, Montgomery and Lancaster

counties,” said Erika. “We want to reach as many people as possible.” Clothing donations for the mobile clothing closet can be placed in either vestibule at MCC church, located at 4221 Main St. in Elverson. Anchored Ministries also offers free takeout meals on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at MCC. “We put a table out during our community meals with groceries that people can take,” Erika noted. Food Boxes from pg 1 The first box, located at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Honey Brook, was installed by church member Nathan Lutz in November 2020. In January 2021, Lutz installed a second box at the Village Library of Morgantown and a third box at the Hearts in Hands Community Center, located in the Indian Run mobile home park in Honey Brook. “A lot of people are using them. People are taking items and a lot of community members are filling them,” Lutz said. Lutz also stocks the boxes himself but noted that the public has kept the food ministry working. “The one at St. Mark’s is filled by

Lutz emphasized that only nonperishable items should be placed in the box. “There are instructions right on the box of what is allowed and what is not allowed,” he noted. For example, items that

will not be accepted include fresh food, frozen food, homemade food, repackaged food and food in glass jars, which may freeze and break. No clothing, toys, towels or shoes should be placed in the boxes. St. Mark’s is located at 1040 Chestnut Tree Road, Honey Brook. church members, (but) it’s really a community thing,” he stated. “The community basically takes care of them.” The one at the Village Library is also monitored by staff members, including Maria Long, library director. “All of us here donate (items) when we can. We keep an eye on it,” she stated. “We’ve had a lot of people come and take things.” Shampoo, toothpaste and other toiletries can also be placed in the boxes. “Most people put in canned goods, but I try to put in personal care items because there are homeless people in the area who may need them,” Lutz noted. Pull-top cans such as those containing pasta are especially good for those without access to a can opener. “Sometimes I do find odds and ends in there like flour, which you can’t use immediately,” Long said. “Some people may or may not have a stove. SpaghettiOs or anything with a pop-top is good (to donate). (People) can eat it cold or hot depending on the situation.” Lutz explained that the boxes were provided by It Takes a Village, a nonprofit organization based in Coatesville that has installed and maintains several food boxes in that area. Each box contains the motto, “Take only what you need. Leave behind what

Wiffle Ball Tournament Set Spectators may not hear the crack of the bat as they do at a traditional baseball game, but the upcoming wiffle ball tournament planned at Octorara will feature just as much excitement and competition. The 10th annual Octorara Invitational Indoor Wiffle Ball Tournament will be held in the Octorara JuniorSenior High School and Intermediate School gymnasiums on Friday, Feb. 25, from 5 to 11 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 26, beginning at 8 a.m. The game, often called a simplified version of baseball, is played indoors using a lightweight bat and wiffle ball, which is hollow and made with plastic. As part of the tournament rules, teams are made up of five players,

and like baseball, the goal is to score the most runs. According to Phil Capotrio, one of the event organizers, the first Octorara Wiffle Ball Tournament was held in 2011. “The tournament founder was Phil Rudisill from the Octorara Baseball Boosters. (It was held) as a way to raise money for the junior high and high school baseball teams,” Capotrio said, noting that the event was canceled in 2021 because of the pandemic. “Missing last year really hurt us, as the tournament is one, if not the largest, fundraiser for the baseball team. So participation and turnout are more important than ever.” Each year, about 30 to 40 teams take part in the tournament. “We are hoping for the same turnout, if not more,” Capotrio said. Each team will play at least

two games in the tournament. Age brackets include the Rookie Circuit, which is open to students in fourth through sixth grades, and the Junior Circuit, which is for students in seventh and eighth grades. There is also a Senior Circuit, which is open to ninthgraders through adults. Teams in the tournament vary from groups of dads to moms or teams from Octorara. “One of the nice things about it is that you don’t have to be good at baseball,” said Capotrio. “The soccer team (from Octorara) signs up as a team. We would like to see more girls involved at the youth level. Softball players out there (are invited to) compete.” In addition to crowning the tournament champions, a prize is awarded for Best Dressed Team in each division. “One of the best parts of the

tournament is the creativity that people put into their uniforms,” Capotrio said. “You should dress your part as your team’s name. One year, I was in team America, and we dressed up as different branches of the military. You want to be comfortable and appropriate, but we encourage people to be creative.” Spectators are also invited to attend. “If you can’t or don’t want to play, we encourage people to come out and watch to enjoy some great wiffle ball fun and enjoy some concessions,” Capotrio said. “We will have hot dogs and pizza - typical ballpark stuff.” A fee will be charged per team. Last State Silver Bank Rolls up for grabs Fortune of old Silver Coins issued by the U.S. Gov’t sealed away in the only State Restricted Bank Rolls known to exist are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents STATE RESTRICTION: Only residents of PA get the $19 state minimum - non state residents must pay $57 per coin PENNSYLVANIA - “We’re bracing for the flood of calls,” said Laura Lynne, U.S. Coin and Currency Director for the National Mint and Treasury. That’s because the next 2 days the last remaining State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls loaded with rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents who call the National Toll-Free Hotlines listed in today’s newspaper publication. And here’s the best part. If you are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania you cover only the $19 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, that’s twenty rarely seen Silver clad Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars worth up to 60 times their face value for just $380 which is a real steal because non state residents must pay $57 per coin which totals $1,140 if any coins remain after the 2-day deadline. “National Mint and Treasury recently spoke with its Chief Professional Numismatist who said ‘Very few people have ever actually saw one of these rarely seen Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars minted over 50 years ago. But to actually find them sealed away in State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls is like finding buried treasure. So anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Bank Rolls had better hold on to them,’” Lynne said. “Now that the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls are being offered up we won’t be surprised if thousands of Pennsylvania residents claim the maximum limit al-

lowed of 6 Kennedy Presidential Silver Bank Rolls per resident before they’re all gone,” said Lynne. “That’s because the dates and mint marks of the U.S. Gov’t issued Silver clad Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars sealed away inside the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls have never been searched. But, we do know that these coins date back tot he mid 1900’s and some may be worth up to 60 times their face value, so there is no telling what Pennsylvania residents will find until they sort through all the coins,” Lynne went on to say. “Rarely seen silver coins like these are highly sought after, but we’ve never seen anything like this before. According to The Official Red Book, a Guide Book of United States Coins many Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars have nearly doubled in collector value in just the last several years,” Lynne said. “We’re guessing thousands of Pennsylvania residents will be taking the maximum limit of 6 Bank Rolls because you can only get them rolled this way directly from the National Mint and Treasury and they are the only State Restricted Bank Rolls known to exist,” Lynne continued. “We know the phones will be ringing off the hook. So make sure to tell everyone to keep calling if all lines are busy. We’ll do our best to answer them all,” Lynne said. The only thing readers of today’s newspaper publication need to do is make sure they are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania and call the National Toll-Free Hotlines before the 2-day deadline ends midnight tomorrow. Q IMPORTANT FACTS: The dates and mint marks of the rarely seen Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars sealed away inside the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls have never been searched. Coin values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees, but any rare, scarce or highly collectible coins, regardless of their value that state residents may find inside the sealed Bank Rolls are theirs to keep.

Q FLYING OUT THE DOOR: Calls are pouring in from state residents who are trying to get their hands on the last State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls known to exist sealed away in the secured packages pictured above before the deadline ends. That’s because residents who beat the 2-day deadline printed in today’s publication by calling 1-800-233-5658 Ext. JFR1623 are cashing in on the lowest ever state minimum price set by the National Mint and Treasury.

Answering Your Questions Q: How to claim the last State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls A: If you are a Pennsylvania resident read the important information below about claiming the State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls, then call the State Toll-Free Hotline at: 1-800-233-5658 EXT: JFR1623 beginning at precisely 8:30 A.M. this morning. Q: Are these Silver Kennedy Half Dollars worth more than other Half Dollars? A: Yes. These rarely seen Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars were minted in the mid 1900’s. That makes these silver coins extremely collectible. The vast majority of half dollars minted after 1970 have no silver content at all. In fact, these Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars were the last silver coins minted for circulation. That’s why many of them now command collector values of many times their face value so there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday. Q: How much are the State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls worth? A: It’s impossible to say, but these Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars date back to the mid 1900’s and some are worth up to 60 times the face value and there are 20 in each Bank Roll so you better hurry if you want to get your hands on them. Collector values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees. But we do know they are the only Pennsylvania State Silver Bank Rolls known to exist and Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars are highly collectible so anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls should hold onto them because there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.

Q: How do I get the State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls? A: The only thing Pennsylvania residents need to do is call the State Toll Free Hotline at 1-800-233-5658 Ext. JFR1623 before the deadline ends. Everyone who does is getting the only State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls known to exist. That’s a full Bank Roll of 20 Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars for just the $19 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, which totals just $380 for the full Bank Roll. That’s a real steal because non state residents are not permitted to call before 5 pm tomorrow and must pay $1,140 for each Pennsylvania State Restricted Silver Bank Roll if any remain.

R080590

Q: Why are so many Pennsylvania residents calling to get them? A: Because they are the only State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls known to exist and everyone wants their share. These are not ordinary bank rolls. These are full Bank Rolls containing 20 Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars dating clear back to the mid 1900’s some worth up to 60 times their face value. Remember this. Only Pennsylvania residents are guaranteed to get them for just the $19 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury for the next two days. Non state residents must pay $57 per coin.

County Works On Housing Issue housing stock does not currently meet the evolving needs caused by growth and changes in its demographics. The number of one- and two-person households is increasing, which leads to more demand for smaller homes that are affordable for people living alone or on a fixed income. Chester County has anticipated the issue, and its comprehensive plan, “Landscapes3,” addresses these changing needs. The housing gap will require housing types such as duplexes, twins, cottage court/courtyards, and conversions of commercial and industrial properties into residential apartments, among other options. These properties will look like other housing types in the neighborhood but have more units within those structures. Chester County is borrowing ideas from Montgomery County that the neighboring county

Funds Available Through Heating Assistance Program In celebration of National Energy Assistance Day, Feb. 1, area residents were reminded that increased funding is available to assist those in lowerincome households with heating costs through the LowIncome Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Additional help is available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal and the American Rescue Plan. LIHEAP provides one-time cash grants paid directly to utili-

ty companies or fuel providers as an account credit. Grant amounts are based on household size, income, and fuel type. Minimum grant amounts will be raised from $200 to $500, and maximum grant amounts will be bumped from $1,000 to $1,500. Chester County residents can apply for LIHEAP at www.compass.state.pa.us or call the Chester County Assistance Office at 610-466-1042 to receive a paper application.

Chester County leaders are looking for ways to create more homes affordable to middleincome and smaller families. Chester County’s population has quadrupled over the last 90 years to 534,000 residents currently, and growth is expected to continue. As a result of the county’s appeal and tremendous growth, it has the highest median housing value in Pennsylvania at $375,000. With the county’s median household income of about $100,000 per year, many people in the county’s workforce cannot afford to live in the county. The county has an ample supply of single family detached homes, and the county funds development of affordable housing for lower-income families and seniors. The big gap falls in the middle.
