GVWA Announces Summer Camps, New Educator BY FRANCINE FULTON

Although the calendar says March, parents may already be seeking summertime activities for their children to enjoy. Among the programs being offering locally is Summer Nature Day Camp at Green Valleys Watershed Association (GVWA). Children ages 4 through 15 are

invited to explore natural science and the outdoors during camps that will be held on weekdays from Monday, June 20, through Friday, Aug. 12, with the exception of Monday, July 4. Each of the eight weeks of camp will have unique nature-based themes, including “Plants to Save the World,” “ Wild Survival” and “Water Wonders.” See Green Valleys pg 3

Board member Dr. Scott Horner (left) has announced that David Yamarick (right), pictured with his wife, Barbara (center), is the new pastor of Pine Swamp Church.

Pine Swamp Church is located on Route 345 in Elverson, minutes from Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.

Historic Church Reopens For Services, Names New Pastor fter being closed for nearly seven years with the exception of an annual Christmas Eve service, Pine Swamp Church, located along Route 345 in Warwick Township, is now open for Sunday services and has a new pastor, David Yamarick.

Like others in the community, Yamarick frequently passed the historic church, built in 1894, and was curious about its history. “I saw the (church) from the road and I thought, ‘How beautiful a setting,’” said Yamarick. “I would sit in my car and pray and wonder what kind of ministry could go on here because I knew it was closed. searched for a contact and … I got the phone number for the board president. I explained that I would love to serve here.” “(The church) closed because we did not have a pastor,” explained board member Dr. Scott Horner. “A dwindling membership and no pastor are not a good recipe for a church. We got a phone call from David, and he was interested in learning more about the church.” Yamarick, who has served in adult ministry for 25 years, was previously a chaplain at Chester County Prison and led services at CityGate men’s shelter in Coatesville. “We were looking for a church and a place to serve,” Yamarick said of himself and his wife, Barbara. “Board members looked after (the church while it was closed) and were praying for someone to show up on the scene. I gave my resume and had a conversation, and my first sermon was on Nov. 28, 2021. After that, I (officially started) on Jan. 2.” See Historic Church pg 7

As Morgan Truck Body celebrates its 70th year, a manufacturer of light- and medium-duty truck bodies has announced that it will unveil multiple custom concept bodies in 2022. Morgan will debut two advanced concept bodies during an exclusive preview at NTEA Work Truck Week in March, with an emphasis on weight reduction and integration of enhanced safety and sensing technology. Additional technology and innovation concepts will be unveiled at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in May. Morgan Truck Body has 14 manufacturing locations, eight company-owned service facilities and a network of more than 200 Morganauthorized repair centers throughout the U.S. and Canada. As the industry grew, the business expanded to include refurbishing and repair, as well as assembly, mounting and finishing of prefabricated van body assemblies. In 1990, ownership was transferred to entrepreneur John B. Poindexter, and in 2006, the company’s name evolved to become Morgan Truck Body LLC. Growth continued over the decades

“Our main goal is to encourage (attendees) in what it truly means to be a woman of dignity in this day and age in this culture,” said Megan Feveryear, one of the organizers of the Clothed in Dignity Women’s Conference. “We want to (encourage women) to live in the purpose God has called them for.” The Clothed in Dignity Women’s Conference will be held in person at the New Holland Church of the Nazarene, 428 Ranck Road, New Holland, on Saturday, April 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The conference, which is open to girls age 10 and up, will include worship and speakers. The New Holland Church of the Nazarene has partnered with True Purpose Ministries to organize the event. According to Feveryear, the event will begin with worship, including interpretive dance by members of Cavod Dance Academy. Worship will be led by Jake and Fayth Lore Whisnant. Following worship, Fayth will lead a breakout session. Feveryear will speak as well. Food served at the event will include several brunch items and a variety of coffees and teas. Fayth was born in Ashland, Ky., and became a Christian at age 8. She and her husband travel full time with The Lore Family, made up of singers and preachers who share the Gospel through words and music. Feveryear noted that women of all ages are welcome at the event. “ We would love to see mothers and daughters (attend) … to see one generation encouraging the next,” said Feveryear. “We hope local women will come out and be a part of this conference.” There is a cost to attend the conference, and registration is necessary. Attendees may purchase a T-shirt at the time of registration for an additional fee. To register, visit www.eventbrite .com and search for “Clothed in Dignity Conference.” More information may be found by searching for “Clothed in Dignity Conference” on Facebook.

The Sunday service at Pine Swamp Church is held at 10:30 a.m. It is a traditional service with hymns, Scripture readings and a message. “Right now, we are going through the Gospel of John and the series is titled ‘Believe and Live,’” Yamarick noted. Refreshments, including coffee and baked goods, are offered after worship. Those who visit the church may note its historic charm. It features its original curved pews and domed stained glass windows. Out back, visitors will see the original 16 horse stalls, since congregation members once traveled to the church by horse and buggy. While doing research at the Chester County History Center in West Chester, Yamarick found a newspaper clipping about a horse that got away from its owner at the church and ran down Route 345

toward Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. He also learned that the church was known for its large summer revival meetings. “The church has a rich history,” he said. According to a written history of the church, prepared by congregation member Albert Painter, the church was once lit by coal and oil lamps and heated with a wood and coal heater before electric lights and an oil heater were installed. In the document, Painter also noted that in 1983 the church left the Evangelical denomination and became an independent church, and it remains that way today. Pine Swamp Church is located at 400 Pine Swamp Road, Elverson. For more information, contact Yamarick at pineswampchurch400@gmail .com. Individuals are also invited to join the Pine Swamp Church Facebook group.

Wiederseim To Sell Collection Of Ed And Carol Stoudt Of Stoudts’ Black Angus Brewery and Pub Sale To Take Place In Phoenixville On July 24

This is a vintage Wurlitzer juke box. Wiederseim Associates is pleased to offer the private collection of Carol and Ed Stoudt for auction on Saturday, July 24, at 9 a.m. The sale includes the contents of the legendary Stoudt’s Black Angus Restaurant and Brewery in Adamstown, Pa., as well as Ed and Carol’s private collection from their home. After over 30 years in business, Ed and Carol have sold the business and are seeking their next adventure.

The couple opened the Black Angus Antique Mall along with the restaurant and beer garden in the 1980s. Business was good. Why not open a brewery? Based on German beers brewed in the Reinheitsgebot tradition, the couple opened the brewery in 1987, with Carol becoming the first female brewmaster in the U.S. since Prohibition. Through the years, the couple traveled and collected extensively

for their business and home. They assembled items such as Black Forest carved furniture (including two tall case clocks), whimsical circus novelties, Art Nouveau brass chandeliers for the beer hall, carousel horses and an unusual carousel

running rooster, vintage posters, a large collection of German steins, a restored 1932 Auburn Convertible and a 1937 Ford Woody, partially restored, all of which will be in the July 24 sale. “If you’ve ever been to Stoudt’s, you’ll be very familiar with the items in this sale and won’t want to miss it. Their Oktoberfests were the best! Ed in his lederhosen leading the procession, the beer hall with great German food and the German band,” said Ted Wiederseim, auctioneer and owner of Wiederseim Associates Inc. “The Stoudt sale will be our first live sale in over a year, and we’re very excited about getting back to business as usual.” Bidding will be live/in-person as well as live online through Bidsquare, Invaluable and Liveauctioneers. A preview starts Monday, July 19, and runs through Friday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will be held at Wiederseim’s facility, located at 1041 W. Bridge St., Phoenixville, Pa. For additional information, call 610-827-1910 or visit www.wiederseim.com.

The massive Art Deco brass chandeliers are from Stoudt’s Bier Hall.

July Is Customer Appreciation Month At The Emporium The Historic Burlington Antiques and Art Emporium in Burlington City, N.J., will continue its year-long celebration of 20 years in business with Customer Appreciation Month all July. Anne Treadwell has founded a new group at Garden Spot Village (GSV). Called Artists in Friends, the dozen or so members, most of whom are artists, puts on art shows in the area, donating 20% of what it sells to an organization connected to the venue. Treadwell explained that the idea formed when she and her husband held a show at Sycamore Springs, a GSV neighborhood, a few years ago. Utilizing the Sycamore Springs clubhouse, Treadwell showed her watercolors and her husband’s birdhouses. All the funds were donated to the GSV Benevolent Fund to help residents whose care had exhausted their finances. Several art shows followed, with one taking on a “Christmas in July” theme and another held in the GSV pavilion to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions. Most recently, Treadwell and fellow Artists in Friends group member Marie Diehl have filled the ELANCO Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, with their work, including watercolors and oil paintings. The artwork will be on display with items for sale until Wednesday, March 9. On Thursday, March 10, group member Jessie Fehrenbach will begin exhibiting her colorful collages in the space. such as her “Low Tide on Cape Cod,” which is an ocean scene featuring a tiny likeness of President John F. Kennedy. “Whatever is in the magazine, I try to incorporate into the art,” said Fehrenbach, whose career in art began at age 55 when she took a watercolor class. “My husband said, ‘You need to paint every day,’” recalled Fehrenbach, whose other colorful works include a vibrant hydrangea. On Friday, March 11, Treadwell will team up with artist Linda Binder to hold a show in GSV, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, in front of the new Artisans Corner. Their show will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other Artists in Friends members are Bonnie Lord and Ed Mills, who make stained
