Antique Car Club To Present Annual Show At New Location BY FRANCINE FULTON
The Chester County Antique Car Club will present its 42nd annual car show at a new location this year - the Classic Auto Mall, 6180 Morgantown Road, Morgantown. The outdoor event, previously held at the Kimberton Fire Company Fairgrounds, will take place on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date of Saturday, June 4.
In addition to the display of antique and classic cars, street rods, trucks and motorcycles, the event will feature a flea market, food vendors and a car corral offering vehicles for sale. A DJ will provide music throughout the day. “We are expecting 300 cars,” said Russ Swallow, past club president. “Besides our show, it also give spectators the opportunity to go through the mall, where there are a lot of cars on display and for sale.” See Car Show pg 2

Olympics, which gave special needs students an opportunity to take part in fun, fitness-based games while enjoying friendly competition and camaraderie. About 80 student-athletes from
OJR High School, OJR Middle School and French Creek, West Vincent and North Coventry elementary schools took part in the Special Olympics, which was held on May 13 at Wildcat Stadium at OJR High School. Also in attendance were 85 staff and faculty members and about 175 spectators, many of whom were family members. Despite the gloomy weather, the student-athletes were enthusiastic about the day’s activities. “It was a rain-drenched morning, yet we braved through the storm and held strong just for a clearing in the sky,” said Margaret Wrubel, OJR High School community connections teacher.
Despite the gloomy weather, student-athletes from Owen J. Roberts School District were able to enjoy the Special Olympics on May 13.

display their vehicles and to visit with other car enthusiasts. “ We have about 104 active members,” said Swallow, noting that club members do not have to be residents of Chester County to join. “Our members mainly come from Chester County, but we have people from Delaware County and Berks County.” The club meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at VFW Post 106, 837 Lincoln Ave., West Chester. Club members also take part in field trips and show their vehicles in various parades throughout the year. “ We recently visited a ‘50s-style diner in Delaware called Goober’s Diner,” said Swallow. “We are a pretty active club.” The club membership
includes people of all ages. Swallow noted that members own a variety of makes and models of cars, including muscle cars; Brass Era cars, which are very early models; and classics like the Pierce-Arrow. “These (makes and models) will be represented at our show. We even get hot rods,” Swallow said. “Anything is more than welcome in the club.” Swallow hopes that moving the event to Morgantown will attract even more members. “By moving our show, we (may) lose some people,” he said, adding, “Hopefully, we will gain some new members from Lancaster and Berks counties.” For more information about the club and the upcoming car show, visit www.ccacc.club or www.face book.com/ChescoAcc.

Bath soap, lotions, diapers, bottles and bibs are also provided. Age-appropriate supplies are offered for children on distribution days in the wellness tent. Week three was dedicated to the Summer Kids Program. Through this outreach, HBFP provides a three- to four-day supply of various food items and educational supplies every month to qualifying clients. serves each month. Each year, competition organizers create a three-week tournament with seeding and brackets to coincide with the NCAA March Madness Tournament. This year, however, the fundraiser was modified to focus on monetary donations, which will allow the pantry to purchase dairy products and meats for its clients. This year’s event also focused on raising money for the HBFP’s Kids Programs. Each week’s donations supported one of three different Kids Programs at the pantry, which serves about 250 to 300 children per month. Week one supported the Backpack Program, which provides backpacks full of nonperishable food items to students in need during the school year. The backpacks are filled with at least 15 healthy nonperishable foods, like peanut butter, granola bars, nuts and juices, as well as tuna and chicken, in lightweight foil packages. The

Bridge of Hope recently announced that Lila Stoeckle was promoted to become the organization’s first chief development officer and Jonathan Matías was hired as the national development director. Bridge of Hope was founded in Lancaster and Chester counties and has grown to 26 locations in 13 states. The organization has been engaging churches in ending family homelessness for over 30 years. Stoeckle will lead the development team and will continue to build relationships with the community to further the mission of Bridge of Hope. Stoeckle has fundraising experience and previously held the position of national director of development. Matías holds a Master in Divinity and served as a pastor in Alexandria, Va., for 11 years. He also has a background in
sales and marketing. Originally from Lancaster, Matías has fundraised for nonprofits, churches, and political campaigns. Bridge of Hope’s model is a three-way partnership between the client family, staff members, and neighboring volunteers. In the neighboring component, Bridge of Hope provides a group of six to 10 volunteers who walk alongside a family facing homelessness, offering support and encouragement. Churches that would like more information about how they can become involved may visit www.bridgeofhopeinc.org.

Rosies Inspire Wreaths Across America Theme Special Olympics from pg 1 for 2022 is “Find a Way to Serve.” The inspiration for this year’s theme came from a few different places, including the American Rosie Movement, whose mission is to find and capture the stories of the World War II-era women known as Rosie the Riveters, or simply Rosies. The movement encourages youths to get involved in their own communities to serve in small ways that can make a big
impact. As part of this new theme, Wreaths Across America is revamping its educational curriculum working with the American Rosie Movement and other organizations to develop action plans to inspire young people across the country to find a way to serve in 2022 and beyond. In 2021, more than 2.4 million veterans’ wreaths were placed by volunteers on headstones at 3,136 participating

an obstacle course, a 50-yard dash, a soccer ball kick and pool noodle baseball. The culminating event was a water balloon toss. “The Best Buddies members and also some high school boys’ lacrosse players volunteered to run the stations,” Wrubel said. The special day did not end when the students left the field. When the athletes returned to their respective schools, the entire student body welcomed them with cheers and congratulatory signs and banners. Wrubel credited a host of OJR faculty and administration staff for their support, including special education supervisors Geoff Ball, Cristin Burke and Joe Milnes; superintendent Will Stout; Randy Cuthbert, OJR athletic director; athletic secretary Amy Holland; field maintenance director John Young; Joe Inzone and the OJR High School security team; Marisa Stoltzfus, chair of the OJR High School physical education department, who organized the fitness activities; Dr. Ryan Monaghan, who oversaw the running event; and Reagan Jones, OJR High School nurse. “Special appreciation goes out to the paraprofessionals in the OJR School District life skills and autistic support programs who provide the compassion and kindness to the students every day ... and the parents of the OJR School District students who support their children every day,” Wrubel added.

The students and their Buddies meet throughout the year to enjoy recreational activities.
