The community is invited to enjoy a summer evening of music and praise during MagniFest, an event to be held at St. Mary of Providence Center, 227 Isabella Road, Elverson, on Saturday, Aug. 13, from noon to 10 p.m. The event will feature ongoing live musical performances, food and beverages, an art show and an opportunity to purchase religious merchandise from vendors. Mass, officiated by the Rev. Steve DeLacy, will be celebrated outdoors at 5 p.m. Performers at MagniFest will

include Three and One, Gus deSimone, the duo of Hanna Mangiovillano and Pat Briley, Melissa Goldhorn, Mustard Seed and The Coppa Sisters. All performances will take place outdoors. “We (will) set up a stage behind the Dalton Retreat House, which is located on the north side of the campus,” noted event organizer Beth Riordan. “One will perform right after the other, but there will be a little transition time in between while they set up.” Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Food will be served in a café, located across from the Dalton Retreat House. See MagniFest pg 5

Student Artwork Displayed At The Village Library ocal students were able to express their artistic creativity at the Village Library of Morgantown’s first Teen Art Show. The artists gathered in the library’s community room on July 23 to display their artwork, some of which was for sale. The pieces remained on exhibit in the library the following week. Participating students were Lael Sanouvong, Roxanne April and Athena Colodonato, Garden Spot High School; Natalie Fetzer, Conestoga Christian School; Autumn Grubb, Owen J. Roberts High School; Shelby Schwab and Natalie Wheeler, Twin Valley High School; and homeschooled students Tabitha A. Donahue of Morgantown and Maura Taylor of Birdsboro. Autumn displayed paintings as well ceramic pieces, including ones

I cut the hard foam with a metal wire cutter.” Library director Maria GerasklisLong reported that more than 50 people stopped into the library on July 23 to view the display and to purchase some of the works. “The idea (was to give teens a way) that they can express themselves. COVID taught us a lot about tapping into our creativity,” she said. “We would like to do more of this throughout the year. We talked about (displaying art by) different age groups - like senior artwork.” The Village Library is located at 207 N. Walnut St., Morgantown. She also wore a homemade ring to the event. “People tell me I should sell (the earrings) on Etsy. For the (small) ones, it takes about 15 minutes. (The larger ones) take one to two hours,” she said, adding, “I (make earrings) for fun. I enjoy it. I listen to audiobooks while I do it.” A homemade staff was part of Tabitha’s display, which she created using a broomstick. contemporary,” said Colombo. “It’s very danceable; we encourage people to get up and dance.” Colombo emphasized that music is not just a hobby for the group members. “We all play a lot of jobs in different bands. We are not people that just play on the weekend,” he said. “I work between three and five performances a week.” With the exception of Webb, the musicians met while performing at the American Music Theatre in Lancaster, where they were members of the pit band from 1999 to 2001. Colombo is also a music instructor and has been the first call guitarist at the Hershey Theatre for 20 years. The band’s moniker comes from Colombo’s middle name, which is

Fortunato. “It makes sense because (the band name) means ‘the fortunate ones’ (in Italian),” he said. “We consider ourselves fortunate to play this music and play with our friends.” For more information about the band, visit www.paulcolombo music.com/the-fortunatos. The final concert in the series will be on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m., when the Bones Brigade will be featured. More details are available at www.honeybrookborough.net by selecting “Public Info” and then “Concerts in the Park.” In the event of inclement weather, the decision to cancel will be made by 1 p.m. on the day of the show. A cancellation message will be recorded on the borough phone line at 610-273-2020.

MagniFest from pg 1 her cousin Elizabeth. The timing of the festival is based on the celebration of the Feast of the Assumption on Aug. 15, which marks Mary’s ascension into heaven. “Last spring when we met to pray and discern what this event was going to be, we wanted it to me something connected to the Blessed Mother for her Feast Day on Aug. 15,” Riordan explained. “Sister Brenda (the site director) was thinking about the Magnificat that Mary prays in the Gospel of Luke. Sister Brenda (suggested combining the words) Magnificat and fest.” “We wanted it to be something connected to (Mary), and it worked out beautifully because it is a festival of praise,” she continued. “There is lots of music from different genres, but it’s all to give glory to God

A fee will be required to participate as a vendor, and setup will begin at 10:30 a.m. Another highlight of the day will be a Visual Arts Showcase, during which local artists are invited to display anything from sculpture and jewelry to photographs and paintings. “Because it’s a celebration of music, art and beauty, we wanted to encourage local visual artists who don’t perform on stage but have (an artistic) talent that they like to share,” said Riordan. “It will be a little outside art gallery.” The MagniFest, which debuted last summer as a three-day event, is named to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Magnificat, also known as the Song of Mary, is the prayer of praise that Mary prayed when visiting
