The event, presented by the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association (HCVHA), will take place on Friday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5, from 4 to 9 p.m. The site’s Mule Stable will be
and there will be parlor games and a live 15-foot cedar tree,” Zerr noted. The Hay Creek Trio and Hay Creek Dancers will perform during the event. “We’ve done Victorian dancing within the ironmaster’s parlor before, but we moved it this year to a heated tent. There will more room for dancing, and visitors can learn and participate in the dancing,” said Zerr. Approximately 1,000 luminarias will light the furnace walkways. Boy
Scout Troop 543 from Plowville will light the candles each evening, utilizing more than 3,000 tea lights throughout the event. Members of Boy Scout Troop 315 of Alleghenyville will take part in pre-event decorating, and they will also be in charge of the centrally located bonfire. Musical groups that will perform around the bonfire include the Twin Valley Bible Academy bell choir, the Kurtz Family Band and the choir from Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church. CHRISTMAS
The public is invited to attend free, live nutrition and cooking classes via Zoom that will be offered by the Giant Company’s team of dietitians this November and December. On Tuesdays at noon, the dietitians will offer a new series on building fall and holiday-filled charcuterie boards, which contain snacks such as chocolate and cheese. On Mondays at 10:30 a.m., mini chefs age 6 and younger will enjoy a story and create nourishing snacks from fig oatmeal bars to cranberry popcorn balls and Rudolph celery sticks. Every Wednesday at 4 p.m., junior chefs ages 7 to 18 can sharpen their culinary skills by making dishes such as pear and cheddar turkey with maple cinnamon dip or green Grinch mini muffins. Families can also come together in the kitchen on Saturdays at 10 a.m. to start some new baking traditions. The dietitians will offer recipes that range from purple sweet potato pie to cranberry pecan bars and cookies. The dietitians will offer classes on creating side dishes on Thursdays at noon, covering recipes that use cranberries, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Several classes will focus on survival tips and resources, busy season snacks and holiday hacks throughout December. On Mondays, Dec. 6, 13, and 20, at 7 p.m., wellness workshops will be offered that focus on diabetes, weight management and holiday stress reduction. All classes are free to attend, but advance registration is required for each class at www.thegiantcompany nutritionists.eventbrite.com. A complete listing of all of Giant’s virtual nutrition classes and ingredients needed for each class are also available on the event page. In addition, customers can earn 50 Choice Rewards points when they register, provide their card number and attend the entire nutrition class.

A Court of Honor for Eagle Scout Wyatt Wright, son of David and Juliana Wright of East Earl, was held on Nov. 6 at Twin Valley Bible Church, Narvon. The accomplishment was the culmination of a journey that began in 2016 when Wyatt, an East Earl resident and member of Scout Troop 264, Mohnton, set his sights on the goal. Wyatt is a homeschool graduate and an aspiring pilot, who is looking forward to starting college next semester. The speaker at the Court of Honor was 1st Lt. Patrick Cleburne McClary III, a retiree of the United States Marine Corps. McClary was the recipient of three Purple Hearts and was a Medal of Valor winner for serious injuries sustained in Vietnam.

basket with items donated by local businesses. People will be able to visit the aforementioned website and find a list of participating homes and businesses. “That’s the fun of it. It gives (people) the holiday spirit to drive around and look at the lights and the holiday displays,” said HBCP member Verna Emery, one of the event organizers. In the past, she noted, the contest involved only door decorating. The doors were judged by a committee from the partnership. For the past three years, though, the community has chosen the winners of the contest. “ We wanted the community to be able to vote,” Emery said. “We
put in online voting, and I go around with boxes with voting forms to all the (previously listed) businesses so people can drop in their ballots.” She reported that last year’s event was a great success. “We had 24 or 25 homes that registered, (and) we had almost 300 votes,” Emery said. The first-place winners for 2020 were Frank Fiorentino, Residential Yard/Lawn; Jessica Whichard, Residential Door; and Dr. Marsha Kirschner, Business Site. The Fan Favorite winner was the home of Joshua Millisock. For more information about the contest, visit the previously mentioned website or www.facebook.com /hbpartnership.org.

the grounds and replaced it with a Ninja Warrior playset, chosen by church leaders. The project, which took place in August and September of 2019, was completed by Wyatt with assistance from his father; his grandfather, Bob Wright; and friend Tom McNamara. “Before my project, there was planning and paperwork (concerning) equipment, manpower, time, money, and safety,” recalled Wyatt. “The main thing I learned … is that no matter how much you plan, no plan goes (according) to plan,” he stated, referencing Proverbs 16:9, which reads, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Wyatt, who was homeschooled in association with TEACH and the Bethany Grace Co-op, graduated in the spring. He hopes to attend Geneva College in Beaver Falls in January to major in cybersecurity. In the meantime, Wyatt is studying for his pilot’s license by taking lessons at Smoketown Airport, in hopes of eventually working as a commercial pilot. He notes that he is getting closer to completing his license requirements, but that a lot of his final testing is weather dependent. Wyatt is also a member of Civil Air Patrol Squadron 811, Reading.

Christmas Parade from pg 9 “A lot of fire companies and police bring all their (vehicles),” said Bassett. “The parade is at least two hours long.” She noted that fire companies will not be permitted to hand out candy this year. The parade will end with a special appearance by Santa
Claus, who will be riding on a Coatesville Fire Department truck. The parade will include an automotive competition as well as other contests, including Best Appearing Fire Apparatus, Best Appearing Police Vehicle and Best
Appearing Float. The all-volunteer parade committee generally raises funds year round by gathering donations and holding fundraisers, but events and sponsoring opportunities were limited this year because of the pandemic. Penn Medi-
cine is the major sponsor of this year’s parade. In the event of inclement weather in the forecast, a decision will be made on Thursday, Dec. 2, about the status of the parade. Cancellations will be listed at www.coatesville christmasparade.com and
on the “Coatesville Christmas Parade Inc.” Facebook page. Santa Claus, riding on a Coatesville Fire Department truck, will be the finale of the Coatesville Christmas Parade.
