Tidings of Comfort It's time to put the last year and its challenges behind us and turn to the source of real joy and hope. It came to us as a baby in an obscure town through a humble couple 2021 years ago. God's love has the power to transform lives and nations. Through the baby whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day, real joy and hope come to our world. Join us as we celebrate the birthday of the Prince of Peace. Our 7:00 pm Christmas Eve worship is in-person and "Live Streamed”. May you find real peace in the love of God through Jesus this Christmas.

Continuing an annual tradition, Royer’s Flowers & Gifts recently presented several thousand holiday cards and coloring pages to the American Red Cross for distribution to area veterans. Royer’s, which has participated in the American Red Cross’ “Holidays for Heroes” program for nearly a decade, collected the cards from the public in each of its stores throughout November. In addition, as part of a new program, Royer’s Flowers & Gifts donated a portion of the

proceeds from the sale of two arrangements featuring plush animals - Kitten in a Basket and Puppy in a Basket - to area animal shelter and rescue efforts. For the first awards, Royer’s has sent $100 checks to 10 area animal organizations: Humane Pennsylvania, serving Berks and Lancaster counties; Animal Rescue League of Berks County; Speranza Animal Rescue in Mechanicsburg; Castaway Critters and Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area in Dauphin County;

Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter in Chambersburg; 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue in Elizabethtown; Columbia Animal Shelter; Humane Society of Lebanon County; and York County SPCA. The Kitten in a Basket and Puppy in a Basket arrangements are available year-round. Family-owned Royer’s has 16 stores in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties, including one Stephenson’s Flowers & Gifts location in Harrisburg.

Several of Chester County’s 26 Authorities, Boards and Commissions are looking for more residents to volunteer to fill current vacancies and serve. Some roles call for specialized skills while the main qualification for others is interest in a particular area. For example, the Chester County Airport Authority is led by two men with aviation backgrounds, but the remainder of the seven positions are filled by individuals in other career fields. Lenda Carillo, who immigrated to Kennett Square from Mexico, serves on the Children, Youth and Families Board because, she said, she has a special interest in child welfare and appreciates all that the Chester County community has given to her. Bill Covaleski, the founder and brewmaster at Victory Brewing Company, serves on Chester County’s Agricultural Land Preservation Board, which reviews bond applications from farmers who want to permanently preserve their space as farmland. Dr. Veda Maany, the medical director for Student Health Services at West Chester University, is a member of a Board Advisory Committee that helps people with mental health issues and intellectual disabilities. Retirees can also serve their communities on Authorities, Boards and

Commissions. JoAnn Weinberger spent a career working in adult literacy in Philadelphia while living in Chester County. When she decided she wanted to give back to her home county, she chose to join the Chester County Library Board. Fellow retiree Kathleen Pearse also volunteers on the Library Board as well as the Health and Education Facilities Authority Board, which arranges financing for building improvement projects for nonprofits. Chester County currently has vacancies on the Aging Advisory Council; Children, Youth and Families Advisory Committee; Drug and Alcohol Advisory Board; Mental Health/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board; Parks and Recreation Board; Pipeline Safety Advisory Board; Planning Commission; SEPTA Citizens Advisory Committee; and Veterans Affairs Advisory Council. To learn more, visit w w w. c h e s c o . o r g / 3 0 9 3 / Authorities-Boards-and -Commissions. To ex press interest in serving on a specific Authority, Board or Commission, community members may email their resume with a cover message on qualifications and interest in serving to Taylor Pettit at tpettit@ chesco.org.

Free training classes have begun and will run through January, so there is still time to register. Training will be offered in a totally virtual mode, so volunteers can work through it at their pace and when they have the time. VITA is also offering classroom training in January. Volunteers can choose from seven different sites and can choose hours during the day, evening or weekend, and they can work as little or as much as their schedule allows. Multiple roles are available, including tax preparers, quality reviewers, English/Spanish interpreters and greeters. Precautions will be taken to ensure every volunteer is kept safe during the pandemic. All

Wiederseim To Sell Collection Of Ed And Carol Stoudt Of Stoudts’ Black Angus Brewery and Pub Sale To Take Place In Phoenixville On July 24

Pick it up at your favorite antique shop or read it online at antiquesandauctionnews.net This is a vintage Wurlitzer juke box. Wiederseim Associates is pleased to offer the private collection of Carol and Ed Stoudt for auction on Saturday, July 24, at 9 a.m. The sale includes the contents of the legendary Stoudt’s Black Angus d i

The couple opened the Black Angus Antique Mall along with the restaurant and beer garden in the 1980s. Business was good. Why not open a brewery? Based on German beers brewed in the i h i b di i h

for their business and home. They assembled items such as Black Forest carved furniture (including two tall case clocks), whimsical circus novelties, Art Nouveau

running rooster, vintage posters, a large collection of German steins, a restored 1932 Auburn Convertible and a 1937 Ford Woody, partially restored, all of which will be in the July 24 sale. “If you’ve ever been to Stoudt’s, you’ll be very familiar with the items in this sale and won’t want to miss it. Their Oktoberfests were the best! Ed in his lederhosen leading the procession, the beer hall with great German food and the German band,” said Ted Wiederseim, auctioneer and owner of Wiederseim Associates Inc. “The Stoudt sale will be our first live sale in over a year, and we’re very excited about getting back to business as usual.” Bidding will be live/in-person as well as live online through Bidsquare, Invaluable and Liveauctioneers. A preview starts Monday, July 19, and runs through Friday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will be held at Wiederseim’s facility, located at 1041 W. Bridge St., Phoenixville, Pa.
