Limeville Church to host first craft fair BY FRANCINE FULTON

imeville Church, 5783 Limeville Road, Gap, will host a craft fair on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first-time event will feature a selection of crafts offered by local vendors, as well as a silent auction. The craft fair will be set up downstairs in the church’s fellowship hall. Crafts for sale will include leather jewelry and leather crafts, custom iced coffee cups, saltwater pearl jewelry, crocheted items, candles, Tupperware, Scentsy, Dresden & Company baskets, wood crafts, wreaths and customized Stanley cups. “There are about 16 crafters,” said congregation member Melanie Shivery, who is organizing the event along with Danae Baldwin. “I am selling jewelry and cups, and (a representative from) Wreaths Across America will sell candles.” Shivery noted that there will also be a hot chocolate bar, iced coffee and light refreshments offered for a donation. Gift baskets that will be featured in the silent auction will contain gift certificates to Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse; Hands-on House, Children’s Museum of Lancaster; Dutch Lanes in Ephrata; and the Turkey Hill Ex perience in Columbia. There is also a gift card from Kerrie Kentzel Photography and a Gumbas Company gift basket that includes items such as salsa and sauces. Also offered will be a Squishmallow basket donated by Cristina’s Thrift & Gift Shop in New Holland. “These are specialty stuffed animals that people collect,” noted Shivery. In addition to the items donated

by local businesses, the crafters and vendors have donated items for the silent auction. “The silent auction will begin online on Friday, Nov. 17, for the donated items from locally owned businesses. This does not include (baskets) from our crafters/vendors,” Shivery explained. “(Bidding) will take place on Limeville’s Blessings Facebook page. Bids will continue in person at the craft show and will end at 12:30 p.m. You do not have to be present to win.” All proceeds from the craft fair

upcoming events at Limeville Church will include its annual children’s Christmas event on Saturday, Dec. 9. There will also be a Limeville’s Blessings toy drive in December and in January 2024, the church will offer a Great Bible Adventurers program for elementary school children on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the craft fair or Limeville’s Blessings or to bid on a silent auction beginning on Nov. 17, visit www.facebook .com/LimevillesBlessingsStore.

and silent auction will support the church’s children’s ministry and the Limeville’s Blessings store, which offers free clothing, household items, children’s toys, toiletries and more to people in need. The store, which Shivery operates, opened at the church in July of 2022. Anyone in need of assistance is welcome to visit the store, and no proof of income or residency is required. Limeville’s Blessings is currently open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to the craft show,

Small businesses are at the heart of local communities. What better way to celebrate the diversity, uniqueness and creativity of independent, local businesses than by supporting them during the busiest shopping season of the year? Shops in local towns offer many gift ideas that are one-of-a-kind and generally feature a local flair, as independent businesses tend to offer products and services that are reflective of the customers and the community they serve. They also offer quality customer service because they meet shoppers face to face. “Shopping local directly impacts the communities in which we live and supports families in our area,” said Jenny Alexander of the Parkesburg Action Committee (PAC). “Keeping local businesses strong helps to create a vibrant business district instead of empty storefronts.” Additionally, local shops support the communities in which they are situated. Independent stores often purchase ads in school programs, donate prizes to church silent auctions and sponsor Little League teams. “These are the businesses that support our local charities, sports teams and community groups,” Alexander added. There is also an online directory at www.paba-pa.org. The directory, which is free of charge to pick up, contains information about more than 100 businesses. In addition to Parkesburg businesses, other listings in the directory are from Cochranville, Gap and Coatesville. “If you have a job to be done, see our PABA member directory first and shop local,” said PABA member Gina Rodkey. Both Lancaster County’s and Chester County’s economies are driven by small, local businesses. According to data from EDC Lancaster County, the county is home to more than 13,000 businesses, 97% of which have fewer than 100 employees. In Chester County, small businesses account for 99.7% of its business establishments. Chester County was recently ranked fourth in Pennsylvania with more than 14,500 small business establishments.
