Chapmans To Address Valentine’s Banquet By Ann Mead Ash
Pastor Jaime Santiago, executive director and founder of Restart Training Center Ministry (RTCM), believes that Steve and Annie Chapman are the perfect guest speakers and singers for the organization’s fourth annual Valentine’s banquet. “The Chapmans were chosen because they have ministered to people in marriages for 40 years,” said Santiago. “Our desire is to encourage people in marriages, and (the Chapmans) have years of experience in their own marriage as well as encouraging others.” Santiago added that the banquet should offer an enriching experience for engaged couples as well. RTCM will hold the 2019 Valentine’s banquet at Yoder’s Restaurant Banquet Facility, 14 S. Tower Road, New Holland, on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. In addition to the meal, the
event will include live and Chinese auctions with items provided by local businesses. According to Santiago, auction items will include romantic getaways for couples as well as flowers, candy, books, videos, and music geared toward encouraging positive marriage experiences. Santiago said that the Chapmans’ music has spoken to his own marriage to his wife, Pam. “The song ‘The Ships Are Burning’ talks about (the metaphor of) a couple (that) gets married (and sails) to a deserted island,” said Santiago. He explained that some couples dock their ships, but that the song recommends burning the ships because “there’ll be no turning back for you and me.” “When Pam and I got married, this song spoke volumes to me,” said Santiago. “I wanted to make that type of commitment to her (because) no matter how many times we bump heads, we don’t quit on (making the) journey together.” RTCM strives to help individuals
who have been traumatized through abuse and who have turned to abusing chemicals or have developed other kinds of addictions. The ministry aims to support clients in finding healing and developing healthy coping mechanisms. RTCM has graduated 10 clients in the last year, and four more are due to graduate the day before the banquet. The ministry was founded in 2015 and accepted its first clients in 2016. The ministry has four live-in staff members at its Lancaster facility, which Santiago believes is necessary for accountability and success. “We will end 2018 in the black, which is good financially. We are thankful for that,” said Santiago. See Valentine’s Banquet pg 9
Annie and Steve Chapman will entertain guests with their music as well as speak on ways to develop a lasting marriage when they give the presentation at Restart Training Center Ministry’s fourth annual Valentine’s banquet at Yoder’s Restaurant in New Holland on Jan. 30.

By Ann Mead Ash
Herbie Beckett, health and wellness director with the Lancaster Family YMCA, is happy to extol the advantages of classes that max out at 10 students. “(Classes of) five to 10 (students) allow for individualized attention along with
a group atmosphere where you can encourage each other,” said Beckett. The three Lancaster Family YMCA locations will all be offering small group training classes in some form beginning in early February. The YMCA at New Holland, located at 123 N. Shirk Road, New Holland, will offer four classes, See YMCA pg 3

them incorrectly,” explained Beckett. “They’re not getting the most benefit from the exercise if they’re not using proper form.” Beckett noted that the class will break down the technical exercises to teach the skills students need to perform the complex movements correctly. Lampeter-Strasburg will offer Fierce, Fit, Fabulous on Saturdays at 9 a.m. beginning Feb. 2 and Tone, Tighten, and Train Tabata on Mondays at 6 p.m. beginning on Feb. 11. Beckett explained that Tabata involves 20 minutes of activity punctuated by a brief rest. “The idea is to increase your anaerobic capacity,” he said, adding that anaerobic activity is higher intensity than aerobic. Lampeter-Strasburg will also offer Ab Attack on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 21 and Ready, Set, Run on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning on March 2. Barbell Basics will be offered at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning March 12. Classes offered at City Center will include Aquatic Boot Camp on Mondays at 7 a.m. and Strongman Training on Mondays at noon, both beginning on Feb. 4. Tabata Jump will be offered on Mondays at 9:55 a.m., beginning Feb. 4, and Anaerobic Training for the Everyday Athlete will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning on Feb. 5. including a nutrition class. The Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA, 800 Village Road, Lancaster, will hold five classes, and the City Center YMCA, 265 Harrisburg Ave., Lancaster, will offer eight classes. Beckett noted that the atmosphere of a small group is more conducive to students’ reaping healthy rewards. “With (large) group classes, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd and not receive that individual instruction,” Beckett said, adding that personalized training can be expensive. “This is a nice middle zone for individual attention, (while still offering) the group atmosphere of camaraderie.” The YMCA at New Holland will offer Body Sculpting 101 on Mondays at 11 a.m. beginning Feb. 11. Beginner Bootcamp will be offered on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. beginning on Feb. 14. Eat Well, Eat Smart will be offered on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. beginning Feb. 20. Beckett noted that the New Holland location has the advantage of offering a kitchen where class members can learn about macronutrients, which he said include carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. “(Students) will learn how to swap certain ingredients to make recipes healthier,” said Beckett. The fourth New Holland class will be Introduction to Olympic Weight Lifting, and it will be held on Thursdays at 6 p.m. beginning on March 7. “Olympic lifts are getting popular, and people are trying them and performing

Beards For Brothers from pg 1
TUESDAY NIGHT DINNER BUFFET
Lancaster County police departments and first responders joined together in November to support Beards for Brothers. The campaign was organized by Officer Bill Watt of West Hempfield Township. Each year, officers select a first responder from the community currently battling cancer or an organization providing care to those battling cancer. This year’s Beards for Brothers campaign raised money for Officer Wendell Metzler of New Holland Borough Police Department, a 25-year veteran of law enforcement, a volunteer firefighter, and a emergency medical technician. In June, he was diagnosed with stage four melanoma. Metzler has undergone numerous radiation treatments and is currently receiving immunotherapy treatments to battle the disease. Faulkner Chevrolet employees also joined representatives from the departments, including Akron Borough, Columbia Borough, East Cocalico Township, East Hempfield Township, Elizabethtown Borough, Lititz Borough, Lancaster City, Lancaster County Park Rangers, Manheim Borough, Manor Township, Millersville University, New Holland Borough, Southern Regional, Strasburg Borough, West Hempfield Township, West Lampeter Township, and Quarryville Borough, along with volunteer firefighters, EMS, and dispatchers from Lancaster County, joined to raise funds for Metzler and his family. For more details, readers may contact Eileen Culp at 717723-5240 or eculp@faulkner chevrolet.com.

I travel individually, but I meet up with different missionary groups,” he reported. “A lot of time I talk to people on the trains, and sometimes I meet people on the streets and help out wherever I can.” He said that finding missionary organizations to work with has been the most challenging part of his journey. “I research and spend hours finding missionary groups and organizations in that part of the country, introduce myself, explain what I would like to do and (volunteer to) serve in any way,” he stated. “It’s a lot of logistics work.” Conner noted that his favorite country to visit so far in his life has been China. “I have been there four times.
