This year’s picnic will be held on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fiddlers are encouraged to arrive early to reserve a slot on the park stage. The performance schedule allows a 30-minute spot for a group and 15 minutes for a single act or a duo. Phase two, a six-week Bible study, will examine God’s plan for life in union with Christ. Phase three, which will take place on a single Saturday morning, will pinpoint God’s plan for His children, and the final phase will be an eight-hour seminar to explore the facilitator’s role. The evening will also feature encouragement from members of The Kingdom Seekers Bible Study, a group of English and Plain community women formed by Ingham in 2006. The group has studied several books of the New Testament based on lessons written by Ingham. There is no cost to attend the event, but reservations are necessary. The YMCA of the Roses was awarded $18,000 for its Partners in Progress initiative, which will bring accessible and affordable wellness classes to individuals with PD in the local community through activities including boxing, cycling, and water-based exercises. The 2022 grant cycle focuses on programs that educate and deliver exercise specifically designed for people with PD, reach those who are newly diagnosed, and address the intersection of mental health and PD.

Order Up! Farm Show Stand To Serve Dinners

For many years, the New Holland United Methodist Church (NHUMC), 120 W. Main St., New Holland, prepared and sold dinners in the church kitchen and fellowship hall during the New Holland Fair. The fair was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, but in 2021, NHUMC sold dinners from a stand in front of the church.

“We set tables up on the front lawn and a lot of people opted to eat there,” said NHUMC representative Heather Bressi. This year’s New Holland Farmers Fair will be held from Wednesday, Sept. 28, through Saturday, Oct. 1, and NHUMC will again have a stand in front of the church to sell dinners. The stand will be open Sept. 28; Thursday, Sept. 29; and Friday, Sept. 30, from 3 to 7 p.m., and Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. until dinners are soldForout.2022, set-price packaged dinners will include pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and applesauce. Sodas, water, and a selection of baked desserts will be sold separately. According to Bressi, during the 2021 fair, the church sold 300 meals. “We try to keep prices down,” she said, noting that customer response to the meals was positive. Funds raised by the sale of dinners during farm show will go to the general church budget. “We are trying to restore the stained glass windows and plaster walls upstairs in the church,” said Bressi. More information about NHUMC may be found at www.nhumc.us or by searching for “New Holland United Methodist Church” on Facebook.

Pastor Ray Voran waves from New Holland United Methodist Church’s farm show stand in 2021.

Both lunch and dinner will also be available to purchase later in the day. Multiple specialty auctions will begin following breakfast, held simultaneously throughout the day in five separate buildings. The auctions will not be limited to one category; the event will include auctions for tools, gift baskets, gently used items, handmade quilts and sports memorabilia, to name only a few. “You can find anything you could possibly think of,” said Lewis. “If you aren’t interested in an auction, you can just pop into the next building and find so many different things.” Three cars will be auctioned this year, and previous years’ auctions have seen the sale of boats, jet skis and campers. At 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, a winner’s name will be drawn for a giveaway of a 2022 Ford Mustang: tickets to enter may be purchased at the event.

The annual Labor Day Auction will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 5, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Solanco Fairgrounds, 101 Park Ave., Quarryville. The rain-or-shine event, which has been held for the past 38 years at various locations, will benefit Hospice & Community Care. Admission and parking will be free. Both days of the auction will begin with food that is made from scratch and sold by members of the Amish community. Handmade doughnuts, sticky buns, pretzel logs and more will be provided by multiple local families as a way to give back to Hospice & Community Care for the services it offers the area. “Hospice cares for several Amish community members. Patients and their families are able to stay at home and dictate the care they want,” said Amy Lewis, director of philanthropy for Hospice & Community Care. “It’s very significant the Amish community can help us in that way.

For those interested in supporting Hospice & Community Care without purchasing an item at an auction, the event will offer an opportunity to purchase a “day of care” from the organization. The purchase will fund an entire day of service for a patient in hospice care.

Before COVID-19, Tenfold personnel had dreamed of holding classes online, but now they would be happy to hold in-person classes again, and they welcome inquiries from organizations such as churches, ministries, businesses, and other that would like to host in-person classes. Pointing out the benefits of working with a counselor, Capitao noted that many people receive an extra paycheck twice a year that they do not always consider. “The counselors here have been able to assist people out of (the start of going into debt) because of that extra paycheck that isn’t on their radar,” he said. In the past, organizations, such as The Factory Ministries in Paradise, have offered rewards in the form of Factory Bucks to be used at The Factory Market, to participant who enroll in a class that effects theirReaderssustainability.whoare interested in taking Tenfold financial literacy classes may register by visiting www.wearetenfold.org and clicking on “events/classes.” Individuals who have questions may call 717-397-5182.
