Swirniuk was a cheerleader for Factory Prints years before she became the director last May. She first learned of the organization while working as youth and young adult manager with PA CareerLink Lancaster. “I was asked to go talk about paid work experience with The Factory, so in my head I pictured an industrial warehouse and manufacturing,” recalled Swirniuk of her 2019 experience. “I was walking around (The Factory), and I was so confused,” said Swirniuk, who had only recently arrived from Franklinville, N.J., armed with a degree in sociology from Rowan University. “I asked if it

more than 300 Christmas characters. Each year on Thanksgiving night, Norm Jr. flips the switch and the Christmas House comes to life ready to delight visitors. This year the display will be open each evening from 5 to 9 p.m. until Sunday, Dec. 31, when hours run from 5 to 10 p.m.
For 2023, however, the annual labor of love was almost derailed. Following Jan. 1 each year, Norm Jr. dismantles the display and stores the decorations on the third floor of the garage behind the house. Last February, when he had put away all but the last load, a fire broke out in two

Christmas house from pg 1 was melted.” However, a surprise was in store when Norm Jr. began unpacking the display to start putting it up in October. “Once I started getting the (decorations) out, I could see there was damage I hadn’t realized (had occurred),” he reported. A call went out for donations of Christmas items to replace the lost ones. Area residents came forward to help, and with
some extra effort Norm Jr. was able to complete the display and open on time this year. He added food trucks on the two weekends prior to Christmas, and Santa visited once again to round out the attraction. Not only did Norm Jr. have the display ready for Thanksgiving, but he also improved upon it. The walk-through begins with a nearly life-size Nativity scene on the front
porch of the house. On the roof is an outline of Santa arriving in a helicopter. “I completely redid the helicopter,” said Norm Jr., who explained that previously the helicopter was outlined in smaller lights. “There were more of them, but this year, it is brighter and only half the bulbs are needed.” Icicles on the house were also replaced. “We added a lot of things,” said Norm Jr. “The
North Pole (sign) and this Santa Claus are both new,” he shared, noting that there are lots of new deer, some of which are tiny reindeer. A new trio of dogs includes two dachshunds and a Welsh Corgi. A replica of Olaf, the snowman from “Frozen,” is part of the display as is an outline of a large stocking with elves. New holiday bears and Christmas trees are also included. The walk-through
concludes with a second Nativity scene. This year, Norm Jr. has added a few benches to the lighted walk so families may stop to take photos. Norm Jr. does most of the actual setup of the display, with Norm Sr. helping with the strings of lights along the road. Norm Jr. noted that replacing items is not inexpensive, even with shopping after-Christmas sales and
yard sales. He pointed out that wiring and bulbs for a few large items, including the helicopter, angels, candles, and wreaths ran into thousands of dollars. “We still appreciate donations,” Norm Jr. stated. For more information, call 717-768-8726, email normanmont2168 @gmail.com, or search for “Montgomery’s Christmas House” on Facebook.

Factory Prints from pg 1 was a faith-based organization,” she stated. “That was my introduction (to The Factory).” Because of her dedication to at-risk youths, Swirniuk began mentor ing with The Factory Youth Center. When she learned about Factory Prints, she was excited about the idea. “I thought it was brilliant,” recalled Swirniuk, who soon asked her supervisor if she could use the service for young adult printing. “I became an unofficial spokesperson,” she said. “I told all the businesses I worked with.” Sometime later Swirniuk learned that the director position for Factory Prints was open. She applied and was awarded the position. “I love it,” she noted. “I love how diverse it is in responsibilities. I love the problem solving. I love the creative side of bringing art to life.” Swirniuk admitted that the position may seem unusual for someone with a degree in sociology but that she uses the skills she gained in that area regularly. “Sociology forces you to think how individuals affect the whole,” Swirniuk pointed out. “Here at The Factory, I am constantly being challenged as to how my business here affects the whole of the ministry.” Swirniuk said that the job also fulfills her passion for helping others. “I love that I serve a role that empowers Factory participants,” she said. “What I am doing is making a difference, and my strengths serve a role like this.” In the position, Swirniuk has completed jobs as small as fewer than 10 pieces and

The community is invited to attend the services, especially newcomers to the church. “We want to kick off the year and dedicate the first part of it to the Lord and bring people together for worship and encouragement to set the course for the year,” said Angie Dearolf, FL communications director. a rural area of Troy, Pa. According to Dearolf, the size of the church is larger than the population of the town. Payne’s message will focus on leading individuals to hope and salvation. Payne believes that living for Christ is about making the most of everyday life. Myles Rutherford will be the final speaker in the program on Jan 5. Rutherford co-leads Worship With Wonders C hurch with his wife, DeLana, in Marietta, Ga. Myles and DeLana, who have a strong Pentecostal background, are authors and recording ar tists and have made appearances through various media outlets, including the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). “Israel and Josh have
been to Freedom Life before. They are in a network with Sam Masteller, our senior pastor,” said Dearolf. “This is Myles’ first time coming to Freedom Life. We are looking forward to hosting him. We have heard some of his messages and think that they will benefit the people who come to hear them.” Simultaneously during Freedom Nights, FL Kids will host a winter vacation Bible school ( VBS) for children in fifth grade and younger. The three-day VBS theme is “The Incredible Race.” Children will go on a worldwide exploration to discover God’s love for people from all nations. The 90-minute program will include games, activities, crafts, snacks and fun
music. “ The kids will have a blast learning Bible stories that still apply to our lives today,” said FL Kids director Gina Turk. “Families love to have a program for the kids - so it’s an event for the entire family,” Dearolf added, noting that the revival has been held for the past several years. “ We do get a good response, and people are excited to start things off in the new year on the right foot. People want to come for a fresh beginning.” There is no cost to attend Freedom Nights or VBS. 9 or 10 p.m. and anticipate its lasting into the wee hours of the morning. Hosts may also tailor d r i n k s to t h e s e a s o n . They may utilize seasonal ingredients when crafting drinks or serve drinks that are expected at this time of year, such as eggnog that includes alcohol or cranberry Moscow mules. To keep guests having fun at the party, provide various activities. Festivities may include card games or board games, karaoke or a trivia contest. B evera ges should be accessible. Unless the host is hiring a bartender who will be on call to pour drinks, having drinks ready to go is a smart idea. In addition to cans or bottles of beer or malt beverages, have ready-to-go mixed drinks available by selecting a signature drink and preparing a bulk batch. Foods should also be provided in a self-serve f a s h i o n . F i n g e r fo o d s and bite-sized morsels may not require guests to carry plates, reducing the chances for spillage. Sliders, miniature quiches and dessert shooters may be suitable. Hosts should also try to curate a winning playlist. They may ask guests to submit a list of their favorite tunes to help compile a collection of songs that will ebb and flow with the evening’s events. Hosts should include tunes suited to singing along like “Don’t Stop Believin’” or “Tiny Dancer.” Those planning parties may choose to offer takeaway gifts for designated drivers. Encourage guests to stay sober and volunteer for designated driving duties by offering prizes. Ideas include gift cards to coffee shops or restaurants. Hosts should also be ready for midnight. They should provide a large television to show the midnight countdown and start pouring champagne roughly 20 minutes before midnight to ensure all glasses are full when the clock strikes 12. Ne w Ye a r ’s E v e c e l ebrations get an extra boost when the party is well-planned.
