Christmas Gathering Planned In Park Foundation Schedules Seasonal Events
Third Annual Tree Lighting Slated By Ann Mead Ash
This will be the third year Kellye Martin has served as coordinator of the Lititz Christmas in the Park event, a community gathering and tree lighting festivity, and the event continues to grow, attracting at least 1,000 area residents in 2018. “This is a casual, family-friendly seasonal celebration,” said Martin. “It is so quintessentially small-town Americana, like something out of a Norman Rockwell scene,” she said. The 2019 celebration will be held at Lititz Springs Park, 24 N. Broad St., Lititz, on Friday, Dec. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The approximately 30-minute event will include live music, carol singing, and the lighting of the town See Christmas In The Park pg 2
The Lititz Christmas in the Park event, a community tree lighting event, will be held in Lititz Springs Park on Dec. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Area residents are invited to gather for caroling, to see the luminarias along the spring, and to enjoy a visit from Santa.
The Lititz Historical Foundation has planned events for the Lititz Community during the month of December. On Thursday, Dec. 12, the annual Community Christmas Carol Sing will be held, and on Friday, Dec. 13, the foundation will hold its Christmas Candlelight Tour. All area residents are invited to the Community Christmas Carol Sing, which will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz. The foundation is holding the event in conjuction with the Lititz Moravian Archives. Free song sheets will be available for those who want to sing along, and the Moravian Trombone Choir will accompany the singers on a number of holiday classics. Following the carol sing, participants will be invited inside Moravian Church fellowship hall for light refreshments and a See Historical Foundation pg 3
Free Movie Night Will Focus On Adoption WEF Seeks Contributions By Ann Mead Ash
Brenda Long, a foster care and adoption supervisor with Bethanna in Lancaster, would like to see county residents broaden their concept of adoption. “Sometimes people think adoption is only for infants and young children, but we want people to know there are a lot of children age 10 and older looking for loving homes,” said Long. Long and other staff members of local adoption organizations who have gathered under the ACLC (Adoption
Coalition of Lancaster County) banner hope to change ideas about adoption by holding a special event during November, which is National Adoption Awareness Month. As they have for nearly a See Free Movie Night pg 8
Representatives of area adoption agencies that belong to the Adoption Coalition of Lancaster County are planning a free movie event at Penn Cinema on Nov. 26 to put the spotlight on fostering to adopt.
During the Extraordinary Give on Friday, Nov. 22, the Warwick Education Foundation (WEF) hopes to attract more than 30 new donors and maybe win a $500 bonus from the Lancaster County Community Foundation. The bonus could help to purchase items such as five more Dash robots to provide elementary school students with additional opportunities to learn the computer coding that programs the robots’ movements. A large portion of the Warwick Education Foundation’s annual budget goes to supporting STEM courses and upgrading computer technology. Last year, for example, WEF contributed a $60,000 investment for renovating and modernizing the computer labs in all four elementary schools. See WEF pg 2

Trombone Choir will play a prelude for attendees as they arrive and then accompany the carol sing. Martin has recruited Jeff Rinehimer to be the master of ceremonies for this year’s program. “(Rinehimer) is a long serving Lititz Park board member,” said Martin. “He is just about to complete another three-year term as president of the board. It will be a nice send-off for him to (act as master of ceremonies) this year.” Rinehimer will welcome the gathering and introduce pastor Dean Jurgen of the Lititz Moravian Church,
It’s grown so tall that we need a bucket truck to reach the lights and star on top now.” Once the trees are lit, volunteers will light the crowd members’ candles for the carol sing. The event is free, but in the spirit of community, opportunities to make a goodwill offering for Lititz Springs Park will be available at the entrances. “This is not a fundraiser for the park, but it is money well spent to keep a wonderful Lititz tradition going year after year,” said Martin. “There will also be a large donation box for canned goods to be donated to the Lititz Warwick Community Chest Food Bank at the Welcome Center,” said Martin. Martin encourages visitors attending the tree lighting to park at WHS off Maple Street and then traverse the back steps near the head end of the spring to the band shell. The front entrance of the park will also be open, but the lighting to the band shell is better from the entrance near WHS. Park Lane will be closed to vehicles on Dec. 6 to allow crews to set up for the event. The main parking lot inside the park will be closed during the event. More information about the park may be found at www.lititzspringspark.org, by searching for “Lititz Springs Park” on Facebook page, or by calling the Welcome Center at 717-626-8981. No rain/snow date has been set for the event.

Martin said that Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit from the North Pole again this year, appearing on the band shell with other presenters. After Santa arrives, Mayor Tim Snyder will make remarks and count down to the tree lighting. This year, two trees will be lit, one at the front of the park and one in the band shell. “One of the crowd favorites is always the lighting of the community Christmas tree,” said Martin. “Our park staff does a wonderful job of trimming and decorating the tree every year.

Library Offers Gift Options The community is invited to support the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, through a Gift-A-Book initiative, as well as the purchase of Lititz maps. Gift-A-Book is an option that will honor someone in the buyer’s life while providing new materials for children at the Lititz Public Library. Members of the community may add to the library’s juvenile collection by purchasing new books, audiobooks and DVDs
from those on display and donating them to the library. A special commemorative bookplate with the donor’s name will be added. Cash and checks will be accepted. In addition, the library is selling special maps of Lititz created by Community Creations. The illustrated maps, which highlight well-known shops and historical sites in Lititz, are available at the library for a nominal price while supplies last.
Did Yeshua (Jesus) lie? You must decide this for yourself. There can be no middle ground, either He lied or He told the truth. If you think He was an outright liar there is no reason to read any further. You might as well put the paper down and hope that you are 100% correct. If you aren’t you are doomed. If on the other hand, you believe that Yeshua did not lie, the following is for you.
In Addition, the Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand. “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for the wrath of The Almighty One remains on him” (John 3:36) “Do not be deceived; The Almighty One cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows” (Galatians 6:7). “Trust in the L-rd with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the L-rd and shun evil” (Proverbs 3:5-7). “The fear of the L-rd is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and discipline” (Proverbs 1:7). “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 16:25). “He who conceals his sins does not prosper; but whoever confessses and renounces them finds mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). “Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of His hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in His cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name and the name of His Son? Tell me if you know!” (Proverbs 30:4). “Seek the L-rd while He may be found; call on Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6). Now immediately without hesitation, ask The Almighty One if Yeshua is His Son and ask Him to reveal His Son to you. Yeshua said that He was The Almighty One’s Son and that He and His Father are one (John 5:17-18, 10:30 & 38 & 17:1). He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Also, “He that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him” (John 5:23). Also, “The Father judges no man but has entrusted all judgment to the Son” (John 5:22). “Whoever believes in Him is not condemned; but whoever does not believe is condemend already, because he does not believe in the name of the Son of The Almighty One” (John 3:18).

The Lititz Public Library’s newest addition is a Bottle Caps to Benches bench. The bench arrived at the library at the end of October, and it has taken up a prominent position near the circulation desk. The idea for collecting bottle caps to turn into a bench began with the library’s youth librarian, Karen Payonk. After researching the idea and working with The ABC Program and Green Tree Plastics, the library asked the community to donate plastic bottle caps. Individuals and organizations in the community heeded the call and brought in more than 400 pounds of bottle caps. Next, youths in the community sorted and weighed the caps. The caps were then delivered to Green Tree Plastics, where they were recycled and turned into a 6-foot bench. The Pfautz family of Lititz helped deliver the bottle caps and pick up the bench.
The Lititz Public Library has a new bench made from recycled bottle caps. The bench was made possible through the donation of bottle caps by community members of Lititz.

The Viktor Yeliohin International Ballet Academy, located on West Grant Street in Lancaster, has been bustling with activity since August. Local ballet dancers from Lancaster County have been meeting every Saturday to rehearse for the traditional Christmas ballet, “The Nutcracker.â€? melodies, as well as instrumental accompaniment. Under the direction of Gregg R. Mauroni, Voices of the Valley will celebrate its 42nd season. The group began in the late 1970s by Lebanon Valley College graduates seeking to continue singing with their director, Dr. Pierce Getz. After Getz passed away, Mauroni was hired to lead the ensemble. Currently, 45 voices are accompanied by Ruth Sweigart and directed by Mauroni. An adjunct professor at Penn State University Park, Mauroni is in his 11th season as artistic director and conductor of Voices of the Valley. He also conducts
Essence of Joy, a Penn State choral ensemble, and is the assistant director of music and arts at Monumental AME Church in Steelton. While the concert at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church is free and open to the public, a freewill offering will be received during intermission, with 10% of the offering going to the rebuilding of Tanzania’s Busoka Lutheran Church, which was destroyed by wind shear. Busoka is a companion congregation of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. There will also be a cookie walk on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon to raise funds for the church’s international outreach in Busoka. Additionally, Christmas Eve services are slated for 3 and 5 p.m. for family services and 7:30 and 10 p.m. for candlelight services. The church also offers traditional services on Sundays at 8 and 10:45 a.m. and a praise service at 10:45 a.m. For further information, individuals may contact the church office during business hours at 717-569-9211 or visit www.stpeters lutheran.org. The public is invited to attend the Voices of the Valley concerts. For more details on all three concerts, readers may contact Joe Garguilo at 717-763-9437 or info@voicesofthevalley.co or visit www.voicesofthevalley.co.

family and how different people deal with unusual situations, Blue Gate Musicals composer and director Wally Nason explained. “It touches on issues that people are dealing with and can relate to, but in a way that’s really fun and really tender at the same time. The Christmas show includes
comedy, drama, and musical numbers. It will run on the Birdin-Hand Stage through Saturday, Dec. 28. For more information about Bird-in-Hand Stage, readers may visit www.bird-in-hand.com. Bird-in-Hand Stage is located at 2760 Old Philadelphia Pike A, Bird-in-Hand.

Light holiday fare will be sprinkled throughout the self-guided tour, and door prizes will be
featured at each stop. The per-person ticket fee will be discounted until Saturday, Nov. 30. Tickets can be purchased through www.eventbrite.com or in-person at Penn Stone in Lancaster and Cloister Flooring in Lititz. gourd art, quilling, wooden signs and toys, quilted runners, purses, and woodwork items. There will also be a silent auction. The event will also feature items contributed by Luther Acres residents. The bazaar will feature an array of donated jewelry for sale, as well as many crafts, including knitted and crocheted items. There will also be many baked goods - from home-baked cakes and cookies to candy and other goodies - for sale in the Pub, located across the hall on Luther Acres’ Main Street of the Towne Center. Baked goods from Luther Acres residents frequently sell out before the end of the bazaar, so customers are encouraged to shop early. The Luther Acres store will be open during the bazaar hours, offering a variety of items and refreshments for purchase. This fundraising event enables the Residents’ Council to fulfill its commitment to various causes. The majority of the funds will be directed toward the Luthercare Caring Fund. In conjunction with the bazaar, a pancake breakfast will be served in Katy’s Grill in the Towne Center from 7:30 to 10 a.m. on Nov. 23. Hosted by the Friends of Luther Acres, the breakfast will feature pancakes, sausage, and juice for a set fee.

Free Movie Night from pg 1 decade, members of the group have arranged for a free movie showing, which will take place at Penn Cinema, 541 Airport Road, Lititz, on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Registration will begin at 5:45 p.m., and the movie will start at 6:30 p.m. Free tickets and popcorn will be available while supplies last. This year’s movie will be “Frozen 2, which will be released a few days prior to the event. The movie, an animated musical, follows the story of two sisters, Elsa, the Snow Queen, and Anna, as they leave their kingdom of Arendelle for a faraway adventure. Friends Kristoff, Olaf, and
Sven return to take part in the sisters’ journey. Staff members from agencies that are part of the coalition will be at the ACLC booth to answer questions, and SWAN, the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network, will also have a booth at the event. “We are available that evening to talk to attendees, said Long, who added that she expects to hear a lot of questions from those interested in learning more about adoption. According to Brooke May of Families United Network, more than 400 children in Lancaster County may be in foster care at any one time. “We want families to understand that adopting through foster care is not expensive, said Kim Miller of Pressley Ridge. “Not all kinds of adoption come with a high cost. Long noted that the organization would like to break
stereotypes about what types of families can adopt. “ We need all types of families, she noted. “If they love children and are willing to learn how to parent children who come from hard places (they could help), she said, mentioning that single parents or parents who have already raised their biological children may be good candidates. Local organizations that are part of ACLC include Bethanna, Bethany Christian Services, Children’s Home of York/Children’s Home of Reading, COBYS Family Services, Community Services Group, Families United Network, Pressley Ridge, and Lancaster County Children and Youth Social Service Agency. It is not necessary to register prior to the event. Readers who would like more information may call SWAN at 800-585-SWAN.

The wild ride is over and Warwick’s historic football season has come to an abrupt end following Friday’s 21-13 District Three Class 5A semifinal loss to Cocalico. Quarterback Joey McCracken threw for 229 yards and a touchdown but the Warwick rushing attack was stymied by a stubborn Cocalico defensive line that gave up only 77 yards on the ground while holding 1,000-yard rusher Colton Miller to only 59. Despite the low offensive numbers, the game was not out of reach. game when McCracken’s final pass of the season sailed out of the end zone as time ran out. Trailing by eight and deep in their own territory with only 1:19 remaining in the game, the Warriors went into a two-minute offense that slowly began working them down field. Utilizing precise sideline passes which allowed receivers to get out of bounds and stop the clock, McCracken and the offense put themselves in a position to possibly force overtime, but it was not meant to be. Miller put Warwick on the board when he capped a first quarter drive with a touchdown run from one-yard out making it 6-0 after the Eagles blocked the ensuing PAT attempt. Thatcher Miller then took

of a 52-yard pass from quarterback Noah Palm to Ronald Zahm, the Eagles found themselves within striking distance with a first-and-goal situation. Palm eventually scored from three yards out to make it 13-7 heading into the break. It was all Cocalico in the second half as the Eagles came out of the locker room and put up two more scores to take the lead for the first and last time of the contest. Palm hit Zahm with a 21-yard pitch-and-catch scoring strike to go up 14-13 and then came up with the final score of the game on a fourth-and-one quarterback keeper. Taking the snap on the Cocalico 37-yard line, Palm followed two blockers around the right side of the line and cut downfield to break free on a 63-yard touchdown scamper to make it 21-13. He then picked off McCracken with 6:40 on the clock to eventually set up Warwick’s final attempt to keep the season alive.

Taking Time To Give Thanks “Godliness with contentment is great gain,” the Apostle Paul wrote in his first letter to his protégé, Timothy, and it has become one of the most famous Bible verses about contentment. The condition of being satisfied - contented - will be one of the themes of the Gathering of Worship and Gratitude hosted by churches in the Landisville-Manor District of LMC - a fellowship of Anabaptist churches, formerly known as Lancaster Mennonite Conference, on Sunday, Nov. 24. The night of worship, reflection, prayer, and Holy
Communion will be held at 7 p.m. around the tables in the fellowship hall of East Petersburg Mennonite Church, 6279 Main St., East Petersburg. Anyone interested in pausing during the busy holiday season is welcome to attend. In addition to contentment, the evening will explore commitment. The Gathering of Worship and Gratitude is the result of the collaboration of Millersville Mennonite Church, Marietta Community Chapel, Mountville Mennonite Church, and East Petersburg Mennonite Church. Worship will be led
by a team that is made up of representatives from each church, with the pastoral leaders in each church community also filling various roles throughout the night. Refreshments will be provided. There is no cost to attend. A schedule for the evening has been posted on the sharable event page, which may be found by visiting Facebook and searching for “Gathering of Worship and Gratitude: A Thanksgiving Gathering.” Readers may also learn more by emailing eastpetemc@gmail.com or calling 717-569-9931.
