A Tradition From Christmas Past Returns BY ANN MEAD ASH

Last year, Lititz Historical Foundation members modified the Christmas Candlelight Tour in hopes of holding the event in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions. Unfortunately, circumstances caused the tours to be canceled. For 2021, the Christmas Candlelight Tour, which has long been a tradition at the foundation, will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, beginning at 5 p.m. Tours, which will take place every 20 minutes, will be limited to eight persons. The final tour will begin at 8:20 p.m. Groups will meet at the Lititz Museum and Gift Shop, located at 137 E. Main St., Lititz,

Lititz merchants are prepared to welcome holiday shoppers on Small Business Saturday.

Celebrate The Season With Lititz “Lititz would not be Lititz without the downtown merchants,” said Rebecca Branle, executive director of Venture Lititz. “They are the heartbeat of our community and the center of our town.” Small Business Saturday will be held on Nov. 27, and Lititz welcomes shoppers to celebrate locally. Branle said that although the merchants of Lititz really kicked off the holiday season on Nov. 12 when the monthly Second Friday event was held, the busy shopping day following Black Friday is a special day in town. “Our merchants focus purely on helping customers,” said Branle. “They will be decked out in

unique gift, and she listed several places where beautiful sweaters may be purchased. In addition to distinctive gifts, Branle noted that a visit to Lititz can provide a special experience. Stores, restaurants, and picturesque sights offer a memorable day. “At some moment, you will look at something and take a deep breath and absorb the beauty,” she said. “It could be a display in a store, the architecture of our buildings and shops, or it could be Lititz Springs Park. There’s that aspect of shopping in downtown Lititz that feels like you’re giving yourself a treat.” More information about Lititz events may be found at https://lititz pa.com/event-calendar.

Candlelight Tour from pg 1 which will be decorated for Christmas. Tours will be given next door at the 1792 Johannes Mueller House, 145 E. Main St., Lititz, where visitors may learn the story of Mueller and his family, along with the history and customs of the Moravian community of Lititz during the 18th century. According to tour guide Paul Miller, the Mueller House will be totally decorated with evergreens, Osage oranges, and berries. “The (downstairs of the) house will be illuminated with candles and decorated with real evergreens. Everything will be natural,” said Miller. He noted that the sidewalk in front of the buildings will be lined with luminaria. “A guide will bring a group over, and a bell is rung by a bell ringer,” said Miller, who added that there will be a guide in each room of the Mueller House to discuss the things found in that room. He pointed out that there is a small wooden tree in the Mueller House that will be decorated for the tour. “That (tree) will have ribbons, candles, pieces of

candy, Scripture verses, and evergreens attached,” he said. The museum decor will be festive as well. Miller noted a real Christmas tree will be located near the stairs, and it will be decorated with natural items, such as dried hydrangea. “It’s really pretty,” stated Miller. Treats, such as punch and cookies, will be served in the museum

following the tour. Readers who would like more information, may visit https:// lititzhistoricalfoundation.com. There is a nominal cost to take the tour, and reservations are necessary. Tickets may be purchased by calling the museum at 717-627-4636 or visiting the museum gift shop on Fridays or Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Church Craft Bazaar To Return The roots of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Craft Bazaar go back to about 2013 when Sister Dottie Almoney, director of education and outreach for St. Peter’s, suggested to Kim Sterner that Sterner and her mother, Movita Groff, should oversee a craft show at the church. Almoney knew that the pair made crafts, including jewelry, cards, and scarves adorned with pins. The timing was not right, but by 2017, Sterner’s children had completed their education, and she was ready to give the undertaking a go. In 2018, the church held its first bazaar, and the positive response led the mother and daughter to schedule another for 2019. Last year, the bazaar was can-

celed due to COVID-19 restrictions. For 2021, both Sterner and Groff are happy to be back at work organizing an event that will feature more than 40 crafters and food. The bazaar is scheduled to be held in the Family Life Center of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, on Saturday, Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no admission charge to attend, but attendees will be required to wear masks in the building. “Our craft show is all handmade items,” said Groff. Among the items that are lined up for the 2021 event are pillows, crayons, doll clothing, burping cloths, table runners, soaps, braided rugs, knitted items, ribbon angels, oil lamps, and handbags. Additional vendors will offer cro-

cheted towels, wooden ornaments and other woodcrafts, surprise balls made of paper with treats inside, floral arrangements, wreaths, signs, pottery, and tissue holders. An author will have her book on display. The church youth group will make refreshments to sell to help raise funds to attend a youth conference. The Manheim Township Lions Club will be selling individually wrapped desserts. Groff explained that the charge to vendors is kept low, and rental funds are used only to cover bazaar expenses. “It’s a community outreach,” explained Sterner. Readers who would like more information may visit www.stpeters lutheran.org/announcements.

St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its third craft bazaar.

Cloister Plans Open House, Music Program Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, has announced two upcoming activities. The Candlelight Open House will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Visitors may stroll the lantern-lined paths of the Cloister and explore the original buildings of Ephrata’s first settlement. Inside, craftspeople, including Fraktur artist Emily Smucker-Beidler and Matt and Elaine Vardjan of Pennsylvania Folk Art Papers, will share their talents. Spinners will be at work in the Weaver’s House, and in the Printing Office the letterpress will be in operation. The Ephrata Cloister Chorus and harpist Joanne Swords-Wang will offer short programs throughout the evening in the original Meetinghouse, providing a preview of Christmas at the Cloister. Visitors may make a small ornament and enjoy refreshments in the Visitor Center. In the museum store, attendees will find locally made items. The event will also offer the opportunity to meet some of the people who help bring the site to life and learn about the available volunteer opportunities. Caregiver To Speak To Women’s Group

Indiantown Gap WAA Ceremony Planned

Women of all ages and preschool children are invited to attend Neighbors Sharing and Caring, a women’s ministry of Chiques Church, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, on Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Glenda Heisey will present “Depending on God When Someone Depends on You.” The lives of Glenda and her late husband were changed in an instant when her husband became quadriplegic. After the accident, Glenda was her husband’s caregiver, and when he was able to return to work, she stayed at home so she could be available if he needed her. Glenda lives in Bainbridge, works as an in-home caregiver at Masonic Village and has one adult daughter.

A Wreath Across America (WAA) ceremony will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, at noon at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery (IGNC) in Annville. The veterans interred at IGNC will have their service and sacrifice remembered with live balsam wreaths and the reading of their names. Sponsorships are needed for the wreaths. To attend the ceremony, attendees should arrive early and follow the event signs and instructions. There is no parking at Fort Indiantown Gap. Free parking and shuttle service will be available at the parking lots at Ingram Micro, 80 Micro Drive, Jonestown, and MSC, 100 MSC Drive, Jonestown, at Exit 90 off Interstate 81. Shuttle service to IGNC will begin at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly, wear comfortable walking

shoes, and follow CDC guidelines. Individuals who are not feeling well or who are experiencing COVID symptoms should remain at home. A live broadcast of the ceremony will be streamed at www.facebook.com/WAAIGNCPA. A Toys for Tots donation box will be available at the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial, and attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate. To sponsor a wreath, visit the aforementioned website or www.wreaths acrossamerica.org/PA0407. To request the mailing address or to confirm an order, email info@waa-ignc.org.
