Here are some shopping tips to help you make smart choices and save money:
1. If you have a favorite store, search online for store coupons. Google the name of the store and the word coupon. You can print the coupon or save it on your smartphone. 2. We often see sales such as “Buy one, get one free.”
Ask yourself, “Do I really need this item?” Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale. 3. Ask about the return policy. Can you return the item? If so, what is the time limit for a return?
4. If you receive a gift card, use it as soon as you can.
Some gift cards have an expiration date. 5. Shop for groceries with a list. You’ll save money if you use your list. Don’t shop when you’re
hungry. Hungry shoppers often buy a lot of junk food1 . 6. If possible, don’t take small children to a store where they can see candy or toys. Kids often say,
“Buy me this; buy me that.” 7. If you shop online, ask about the refund2 policy. 8. If you pay with a credit card, read your bill as soon as you receive it. Look for charges you don’t recognize. 9. Look for discounts. Teachers get discounts at some stores. College students and senior citizens often get discounts.
