WRITING TIP

When you present an idea, you should follow it up with a reason and/or example. This makes your writing stronger. Your reason or example can be based on facts or personal experience. In an example response to the first prompt below, the writer uses both a reason and example to support why coupons could help someone save money on groceries. There are a lot of ways to save money. To save money on food, use coupons at the grocery store. You can get a lower price or sometimes get two items for the price of one. Last week, I was able to get two boxes of my favorite cereal for the price of one, so I won’t need to buy cereal again this week.

PART 3 Write

Read the prompts. Choose one and write one paragraph about it. 1. Write advice to a friend who wants to save money. How can your friend save money on food, clothes, and other items? What are some things your friend should not spend money on? 2. Write advice to a friend who wants to have a better experience shopping for food. What is the best time to go grocery shopping? Should your friend always go to the same store? Should your friend take a list? Should your friend go alone?
