Introduction about Author My name is Jina and I’m the author of this poetry portfolio “Thrilling Recitations Read with Chocolate Chip Cookies and Milk.” I’m 12 years old and I’m in 6th grade in United Nations International School (UNIS). I was born in America although I’m from South Korea. I live in Hanoi, Vietnam with my family – my dad, my mom, my older sister, and a silly little brother who thinks he can control me. I like to do art; crafting and drawing, also reading and hanging out with my best friends. I normally like to bake but the problem is, I don’t have an oven. This results me storming into my friend’s house to bake cookies and messing up all her ingredients and her kitchen. Another thing is that I love pasta. Especially that special swirly kind – oh and also, it should be homemade. For the final wrap-up, I would really love to have a snuggly little puppy since I love animals. I will now share you the five best poems I have written from my poetry collection. I got my poem inspirations from my English classmates, family and teacher. I also got my poem inspirations from the bucket full of words in English class, it gave me ideas for some of the poems’ topic. Be reeled into my imaginative world of poetry!
You look like a stunning ornament, Dangling from a cheery Christmas tree. You feel like a wrinkly old dictionary, Aging in the school library, Hoping to get borrowed. When I peel you‌ You sound like a crackling fire in the hearth, Filling the room with warmth. Your inside looks like a sea coral flourishing, And completing the beauty of the undersea. Or like a group of football players, Doing a tight group hug, Looking powerful as one. You feel like a back of a wet lizard, Enjoying the bank of a muddy swamp. You smell as fresh as morning air, after a light morning drizzle. You taste as sweet and sour as jelly beans, newly bought in a sweet shop, Your scrumptious juice filling my mouth. You're perfect in every way, except‌. Oh, why do you have seeds?
My brother is a Crayola Box. He’s smudgy and untidy, He’s colorful with vibrant colors, When eats his ice cream, That shades his diverse sides. Splattering it everywhere, Red for his passion, Like a weird piece of artwork. When he steals mom’s phone, He slowly reveals his inside. And takes over her games. While pealing his outer paper layer, Blue for his family’s feelings, To show his true hyper and restless self. When his horrible rebellion finally starts. He’s really active with children, And yellow for happiness, Way too chaotic in fact, When he gets hold of chocolates. Especially with those small kindergarteners. He is recommended by teachers, He always gets hurt, For his marvelous qualities in class. And “breaks” some part of his body, His skinny and lean body, Unexpectedly, Stands out among his buddies, Within such a short time. Ranging from normal to fat. He always cheers me up, He might look all neat and easy to handle, With his cute little artwork he draws. But you will get your hands messy and These crayons, you see, muddled. Are not the perfect ones, But I still love art, Just like I love him.
1 Its a comfy and warm armchair, It cradles the hectic woodpeckers, And the mischievous chipmunks Into their deep night's sleep, Huddling together In their home and their hollow. 2 The bark of the tree, Coarse layer of sand paper, Rough and brown, Prickles my fingers, And bites into my hands. 3 It yelps and cries out, And sways its arms around When humans are approaching, Gripping axes and razor saws, In their beefy and bloody hands
7 Ways of Looking at Trees
4 It blossoms beautiful fruits, Like stars in the dark night sky, Deliciously ripe plums, Sweet and sour tangerines, All ready to be plucked, And tasted with delight. 5 It wears different fashion, Like a superstar in the spotlight, To stand out from its surroundings, Turning from pink, to green, Then orange, to white. 6 It is an air freshener, Sprays and puffs, Overwhelms the atmosphere Clean and spotless, Fresh as morning dew. 7 Trees, Trees, One of the nature growing around us, Making the environment green.
