Dear Rocco, I was moving the other week and asked a number of friends to help me move out of my place. Basically I only needed help moving a number of boxes into storage. I had hired a movers to get the big stuff. I offered compensation, told them what weekend it would be and everyone agreed. Come moving day, no one showed up. Kavanaugh Confirmation Clamor Unless you just don’t watch the news or get it off the internet you are probably aware of who Brett Kavanaugh is. For those “who just tuned in” Mr. Kavanaugh is a former White House Staff Secretary, a Yale Law School graduate and a former United States Circuit Court Judge. Most people had never heard of Mr. Kavanaugh until he was nominated as a candidate for a Supreme Court Justice position by President Donald Trump. The grumbling from the ‘Left”, (liberals and Democrats) began at that point. The Left did not want to have another Justice appointed by President Trump. The so-called “Trump Derangement Syndrome” began to kick in. However, Congressional hearings started

But so far nothing that 30 plus years ago Judge Kavanaugh had pinned a woman down on a bed and depending on the source either fumbled at her clothing or tried to remove her clothing. Where did this accusation come from? Some pundits are saying it’s simply “he said, she said”. However, this allegation has besmirched Judge Kavanaugh forever. The timing of this all seems very suspicious. If Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination is defeated or withdrawn it would make it unlikely that a new nominee could be confirmed prior to the November elections.

matic that one party will achieve their objective “by any means necessary”? Will any nominee become viable if all it takes to stop their nomination is an allegation supported by vague details and few or no witnesses? Perhaps this forebodes divisive political upheaval the likes of which have never been seen here in America. Only time will tell.

Only time will tell what will happen to Judge Kavanaugh and this appointment. It appears to me that the accusations by Mrs. Ford will be impossible to substantiate. Will the sheer weight of such an accusation cause Judge Kavanaugh to lose the nomination? Is this just a political move to delay a conservative appointment to the Supreme Court while ignoring the Constitutional right to be considered innocent until proven guilty and besmirching a thus far unblemished reputation? Has our society become so schis-

McDonald’s paid $25,000 to two Texas college students who hung a fake poster of themselves in the eatery for months. Jevh Maravilla and Christian Toledo appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where DeGeneres informed them McDonald’s had offered to pay them each $25,000 and feature them in an ad campaign. The prank went viral after Maravilla shared a photo of the poster, saying he wanted to boost Asian representation in the advertisement posters by placing the fake ad on a blank

wall in the restaurant. The two friends went to their neighborhood event center to take photos of themselves holding McDonald’s menu items and then printed them onto a large poster. Maravilla then purchased a McDonald’s uniform from a local Goodwill store and printed a fake badge to pose as a “Regional Interior Coordinator,” before returning to the restaurant to hang the poster on the blank wall. Maravilla said a representative from McDonald’s corporate contacted him after the prank went viral and invited the friends to an event after the store after informing them they weren’t in trouble.

It can be hard disciplining teens. One Michigan mother thought she had a great solution when she confiscated her daughter’s cell phone after she got in trouble at school. But Jodie May’s ex-husband, who had given the phone to the girl, didn’t think much of the plan and reported it to the police as a theft. May was nursing her 4-week-old baby when a deputy knocked on her door, telling her she’d be arrested on a misdemeanor theft charge. “He had told me that he was going to arrest me, and I asked him if I could turn myself in on that Monday by myself, that I had a new baby. She wasn’t taking the bottle

yet,” she said. Her proposals weren’t accepted. She was arrested and taken to a holding cell. That’s good police work, right there. Just a few short minutes into the trial, the assistant prosecutor announced it was not theft, so the case was dismissed and May left the courthouse with a clean record. Porn is a tough business. Once you’ve seen the same thing a few thousand times you have to come up with something new and exciting. And Bryan Deneumostier of

South Florida thought he had a great idea. He would trick straight men into thinking he was a woman and record their sex sessions. He was surprisingly successful. 33year-old Deneumostier would cross-dressed as a woman and taped himself having sex with at least 80 unsuspecting straight men to produce internet porn videos. He was arrested on charges of making unlawful recordings of commercial sex acts for an adult website. An indictment lists three victims related to his operation of “StraightBoyz.” The site promised gay men videos of real straight men being conned into accepting sex acts. “The site offered for streaming approximately 619 ‘hook up’ videos that depicted sexual activity between Deneumostier and other men,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “The defendant had surreptitiously made audio and video recordings of the sexual encounters, without the victims’ knowledge or consent.” Agents with Homeland Security Investigations believe Deneumostier posed as a “real,

heterosexual female” and posted ads on Craigslist seeking flings at her house. Agents found that at least 80 of the men depicted on the site were victims, never knowing their sexual encounters were being recorded and uploaded to the web. Deneumostier pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal interception of oral communications and faces up to 10 years in prison. Police in Washington state shared three photos of creative carpool lane cheats — including one who used a Halloween skeleton as a passenger. The Washington State Patrol shared three photos this week showing the faux-passengers that high-occupancy vehicle lane users used in unsuccessful attempts to ward off scrutiny from police. One of the photos featured a Halloween skeleton dressed in a jacket and a baseball cap. Another example shows a pillow dressed in a hoodie and holding a cup of coffee and a tablet. HOV lane violations are punished by a $136 fine in Washington state.

There is the spirit of the law and the letter of the law. For example; the ‘spirit’ of bestiality laws is that you shouldn’t sexually molest animals. It’s just gross and it’s not fair to the animals. But the letter of the law can be iffy, as one man in Florida discovered to his advantage. Florida authorities are powerless to prosecute a former animal shelter worker accused of performing sex acts on a dog because while the current law prohibits bestiality, it doesn’t explicitly forbid oral sex with animals. Now, animal advocacy groups are calling for an amendment to the law after the state attorney’s office reportedly declined to charge suspect Eric Antunes with animal cruelty for allegedly engaging in oral sex with his girlfriend’s three-legged pit-bull mix. Antunes, however, does face child pornography-related charges after police said he allegedly admitted to downloading and viewing kiddie porn on his computer, according to reports.

Gandhi International airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle a kilogram of gold by hiding it in his rectum, an official statement said. The 24-year-old passenger was intercepted upon his arrival from Dubai. Upon a detailed examination of his baggage and a personal search, it was discovered that the accused had hidden nine gold bars, weighing 1.04 kg, inside his rectum, the statement said. What kind of baggage searches are they conducting in Delhi if they found the gold up his butt? The gold bars were seized and the passenger was arrested. In another case, a French national and an Indian were arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle gold into the country. One of them had come from Chennai, and the other, who holds a French passport, arrived here from Singapore. “A detailed baggage and personal search of the passengers resulted in the recovery of one gold bar and five gold biscuits weighing 1.5 kgs,” the customs department said, adding that the A man has been arrested by the duo were arrested and the gold Customs department at the Indira was seized.

Does The Establishment Want To Destroy The Western World? For at least a number of decades, people in the west have been told that they need to stop having as many children due to ‘overpopulation’. This is a message that has been expressed directly and indirectly.

Why Can’t Elected Officials Earn Our Faith? In a so - called, democratic republic, our expectations should be, those we elect to serve and represent us, do so, with the utmost degree of genuine empathy, in an ethical way, maintaining absolute integrity, and putting the common good, ahead of any personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self interest! Unfortunately, far too often, these elected officials, fail to proceed, in such a way, and, thus, do not deserve, nor earn our FAITH. It often appears, the more we need these people, to do their jobs, for the common good, in a relevant, sustainable manner, the more we are disappointed. With

3. Integrity; ideas; ideology; imagination: Why is it so rare, we observe elected officials, who exhibit the degree of genuine integrity, we need and deserve? We need ideas, which align with the ideology, our nation is based on. Instead of using slogans, such as, Make America Great Again, we would be far better served, if our leaders maintained a relevant imagination, to see things as they ought to be, rather than merely, seeking, the same - old, same old! 4. Trends; thoughts; timely: Instead of empty rhetoric, or seeking the worst instincts of others, we need officials, who understand and take advantage of trends, and proceed in a thoughtful, timely manner! 5. Healing; head/ heart: Those seeking helping the common good, focus on healing and unifying, rather than adversarial behavior, and polarizing! In order to achieve this objective, it’s imperative to proceed, with a combination of common sense, and a willingness to use both one’s logical and emotional components, in a head/ heart balance. Wouldn’t we be better served, if our elected officials, earned our FAITH, not by their empty rhetoric and promises, but rather, their actions and intentions? When the American electorate proceeds forward, in a more engaged manner, and demands more, the probability of being served, better, is greater!

Sitcom Characters Who Annoy Friends with Their Musical Instruments Folks have been sharing their memories of a national toy company that is going out of business, so I tried to recollect one of the few times I ever shopped there. Since my kids are both now in college, it has obviously been quite a while that I set foot in a toy store. One Christmas my daughter topped her list for Santa with a drum set, which she of course received. The worker at the toy store had sworn that the set would be easy to assemble, but he was obviously unaware of my mechanical shortcomings. Several hours before the kids awoke to check under the tree, I had managed to complete the three pieces of percussion. After all that work, my daughter probably played the drums not more than a dozen times, and boy am I glad of it. Had she seriously undertaken the task of becoming a female Ringo (Ringa?) Chris Knight Chris Knight doesn’t like to say much. Won’t chat about his worldview or engage in conversations on his creative approach. For 20 years, several acclaimed albums and a hard-nosed career that’s been hailed as “where Cormac McCarthy meets Copperhead Road”, Knight has always let his music do most of the talking. Writing has gotten a little harder because I’m not the same guy I was five years ago, let alone 15-20 years ago. Attitudes changed – not as pissed off as I used to be. So it gets hard to find material that you want to write about to keep from yourself from repeating over and over. I’ve been writing songs about a guy and a girl but that don’t interest me as far as writing. It’s got to be something that gets me pissed off or make me happy or sad. I’ve got to have a good feeling down my spine before I even want to fool with it. Some songs you’re working on for two years before you finish them. Sometimes you forget how to dive deep and get down there what you need. It used to be easier than that. Even on movies I used to love I can’t stand to watch any more. Watching a movie you love you don’t look at it the same way you did ten years ago. I’m not there any more like somebody else.

I really like “If I Were You”, “Hard Candy”, “Down the River”. “Hard Candy” I don’t hardly play live any more. It’s one of the favorite songs I’ve ever written for myself. I like a lot of them. I don’t know as far as favorite songs. I like playing those on stage – they sound good whether I’m playing solo acoustic, or a band show. Some songs work real well for you. That’s one way I define success – writing a good song, making a good record. I’ve been in the music business 24 years and I don’t see any reason to stop. It’s not like I’m going to have to stop playing music and get a day job. As far as I’m concerned I’m doing all I can do and doing all I want to do. As far as success, success can be a lot of things. You can be successful and not have any time for yourself or anybody else. Holy crap!” I softened what they really said in that last line to keep things PG, but every person that streamed by my car as I attempted to pull out was talking about the same thing. Rick Springfield, who headlined this night, celebrated his 69th birthday this night with the crowd. I have to Rick Springfield admit, I was thinking the same thing from the time he crap, is he really that old? As sad, but true, the “Working Class Dog” has been around that long. I’m old.

he was handed a bouquet of flowers and then shreds them on his guitar – it’s almost a gimmick or at least you await it to finally happen – and it did. But this was one powerhouse show. During his set Springfield was all over the stage, putting kids 40 or more years younger to shame. After telling the crowd it was his birthday he took off his sweat soaked shirt to change revealing a physique most 20year-olds would be envious. Not to stop there he literally ventured into the packed crowd (with security escort of course) and walked around the arena, high-fiving fans and going on. It was more than a rock concert, this show was actually fun. Of course all the hits were there, but Springfield played new material off of The Snake King, his

It was the album, his fifth, Working Class Dog that caught my ear and millions more as it and the three albums after all were platinum sellers. Not bad for a ©Dave Weinthal doctor from General Hospital. I always like Springfield’s music and never knew for sure if I should admit it and consider it more of a guilty pleasure. The majority of his material I know is of the power pop and area rock style, which is one of my favorites. But with my leanings towards alt rock I was always afraid I wouldn’t be taken seriously for loving songs like “Jesse’s Girl” and “Human Touch”. I also wasn’t sure what to expect live. I newest effort released in knew he did this thing where January. Yep, Rick Springfield ENIGMA

is a ‘80s rocker who is still relevant today. You just have to look harder to find the music – or go to his show, which is highly recommended. Prior to Springfield, Loverboy took the stage. I discovered Loverboy the same time I discovered Rick Springfield in the spring of 1981. I remember like it was yesterday. My

best friend graduated high school early and got a job as a draftsman at Ted F. Dugan & Son. He got his first adult apartment and roommate that wasn’t one of his classmates. I would go hang out on the weekends with him and his roommates and friends as we listened to music, talked crap and even talked about going to the Sports Page to hear this badass local band Wizzards

(or something like it). Chuck (my best friend) would come pick me up and we listened to his 8-track of Working Class Dog (yes, it was that long ago) from Lookout Mountain to his new apartment in East Brainerd. While sitting on the couch and chilling he handed me his newest find, Loverboy. He played me the singe, “Turn Me Loose” and I was hooked. The album art was cool and the songs catchy. The self-

outwardly. And thanks to KZ 106, I became totally sick and tired of the song, “Working For the Weekend”. Scott Chase used to wear that song out of Fridays as a precursor for the coming weekend. It got to the point I detested the song. That song along with “Weekends” by Wet Willie, which KZ 106 always played on Fridays as motivation to get through the day for the weekend was upon us.

Loverboy was your stereotypical glam ‘80s rocker sans eyeliner before the term was in use. The ripped jeans, long hair and strategically worn bandannas not only around the head, but one leg became the staple for many a Halloween costume for wannabe karaoke rockers. I even remembering when I was road tripping with a band titled debut was the first of four consecutive platinum albums. But as the band got more popular their music went more for the mainstream, as I was into new wave, post-punk and eventually what was to become alternative rock. I still liked the band, but not ENIGMA

that happened to be booked at a neighboring frat house side by side their bitter rival as I watched the two lead singers get into a verbal war. “Yeah, you think your so cool,” the one singer said. “With your fan blown hair and your bandanna tied around your leg like Loverboy.”

There was something I always thought was cool about Kihn. Unlike a lot of rockers he had a sense of humor. His album titles were always variations of his name like RocKihnRoll, Kihntinued and Kihnspiracy for example. Then of course came the “big” hit, “Jeopardy”. Back in the glory days of MTV (that I wax poetically here about all the time) you could not miss this song and it’s great video. It was long after that Weird Al parodied the song and to make it a true pop culture icon of the song even Kihn did a cameo in the Weird Al video at the end.

rockers, he never quit playing and recording new music, last year releasing Rekihndlked last year which some may say is a return to form, but if you listen to his catalog it’s obviously Greg Kihn. He does what he does best – play rock and roll and has fun doing it. Besides playing the “big ones” he threw in “Pink Flamingos from the new album. All well received. Starting the night was the one-hot wonder. And what a hit it was. Tommy Tutone started the night. His name of course is familiar for seven digits – 867-5309 - perhaps the most famous one-hit of

Some of the songs got downright cheesy for me like, “Hot Girls In Love”. But as I age I find myself mellowing and revisiting stuff I’ve either written off or ignored entirely. It’s nice to relive the past; Mike Reno and company did a fine job of recapturing the magic for the baby boomer crowd (majority female) who were in attendance. We went from two multi-platinum artists to two acts that were both one and two-hit wonders to open the show. Prior to Loverboy, Greg Kihn hit the stage. Of course Kihn is the two-hit wonder on the bill. I can still remember riding in my friend Scott’s Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am listening to the “The Breakup Song (They Don’t Write ‘Em)” on a warm summer afternoon in high school.
