When I went through the checkout, I watched as each item was scanned. I’ve learned from past experiences to do this. I was amazed when the grapes weighed 2.5 pounds. This was a 99¢ increase in cost from my weight on their scale. I mentioned it to the cashier. She had already scanned the grapes into the register. She then proceeded to weigh them again. I was again shocked as they weighed even more the second time. She said I could do one of three things: (1) get a refund, (2) pay the price for the first weight, or (3) pay the higher price for the second weight. Since I wanted the grapes, I chose number (2). After I paid, I parked my cart away from the register and took the grapes back to the produce department. I wanted to see if I had made a mistake—at my age that’s highly possible. To my surprise, the scale I used said the grapes weighed two pounds (glad I’m not crazy). I then went to another scale in the produce department and the bag weighed 2.5 pounds. I went to a third scale and the bag weighed two or three different weights as you put on and took off the bag. I had the produce manager come to the scales and showed him. His reply was “we set the scales every morning.” I let him know that in my opinion it was his job to check several times a day to be sure they were correct. He didn’t seem to be very upset with the matter. I mentioned that the restrooms are checked throughout the day and the scales are just as important to Publix’s reputation. He wasn’t overly bothered by all this and while I was there made no effort to adjust the scales. ENIGMA

Dear Rocco, This past summer, our neighbors told us they would like to put up a fence. We did not want it and told them to put it on their own property. Despite our objections, they put it our property line. We sold our house three months later and moved about 5 minutes away. Today I received a telephone call from our former neighbor demanding $300.00 for our side of the fence. My lawyer says we are not legally obligated to pay. These people have been friends of ours for the three years we lived together in the neighborhood. These people are also aware that things are financially tight for us right now. Should I let our friendship end over $300.00? CW=

missing is plenty of booze to set the mood and you have... Witnesses of a single-vehicle crash were shocked to see a naked man and woman emerging from the wreck, according to police in Washington. Washington State Troopers said that they have arrested the driver, 23-year-old Michael Tonkin, who was having sex with the naked woman, 23year-old Daisy Laroque, before slamming into the tree. According to the police investigation, the man was driving down State Route 7 with a 3-month-old baby in the back seat. The man and the woman

were both drunk and naked. The couple was having sex when the man missed a curve and drove off the road. Seconds later, the car slammed into a tree. Witnesses at the scene saw the naked man and woman emerge from the wreck. Both appeared to be intoxicated. The man and the baby were not injured but the woman suffered broken bones and was transported to a hospital. Tonkin was charged with driving under the influence, vehicular assault, and child endangerment. A young girl was taken from her mother and handed over to the Department of Family and Child Services in California. The Palmdale Sheriff Station said in a press release that the mother, who was on the “wrong track,” was arrested for “playing chicken” on the train tracks with her 4-year-old child. Police were called by concerned citizens regarding a woman and a child sitting on the train tracks. Detective Borits and Deputy Hegge arrived at the location and saw the child sitting on the train tracks while her mother, 26-yearold Ashley Hawkins, was 20 yards

away looking down on her cell phone. The deputies immediately told the mother and child to get off the train tracks and go to an area that is a safe distance away. The mother told the detectives that she and her daughter sit on the train tracks every day. Detective Bortis cautioned the mother on the dangers of “playing chicken” with the train. He warned her of a recent fatality of a man being hit by a train not far from that location. “The mother expressed no due regard for the safety of her child and continued to state it was okay because they did it every day,” police said. Police arrested Hawkins for willfully placing her young daughter in a dangerous situation. The child was taken into protective custody by the Department of Family and Child Services. Las Vegas police are searching for a man who punched another man for groping him on the Strip. About 1:40 a.m. a patrol officer heard shouting near Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard South, then saw one man punch another before fleeing. The officer chased the

attacker, but lost track of him near Planet Hollywood Resort. Witnesses at the scene told police the man who was punched grabbed the puncher’s rear end. When the man asked him to stop, he did it again and the man punched him. The man who was punched was briefly unconscious and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Sounds like he got off lucky. If he were in the entertainment industry or politics he would have lost his job and would be checking into a sex rehab facility in Europe somewhere by now. Shakes the Clown has been charged with groping two women at a holiday haunted house in Wisconsin, records show. According to a criminal complaint, the victims had their breasts pawed last month while waiting to enter a “haunted barn” at a campground in Janesville. Police had been summoned to the scene following reports that women were “touched inappropriately by a clown.” Two women told cops that a “clown with green hair” first approached them and asked, “Do you want me to Donald Trump?” While making

this inquiry, the clown “made a hand gesture towards their vaginas and made a squeezing motion,” the complaint alleges. Both women said that they “were not touched at that time,” but had been “caught off guard by what the clown had said and found it inappropriate.” Following the “Trump” comment, the clown allegedly grabbed and squeezed the breast of one woman, and then did the same thing to her companion. The clown’s actions, the women told police, left them feeling “violated and uncomfortable.” Neither victim, investigators noted, gave the clown consent to grab her breast. A sheriff’s deputy subsequently identified the alleged assailant as Brandon Goral, a 43year-old Janesville resident. Goral said that he “goes by the clown name of Shakes.” During questioning, Goral said that he “does not touch women’s breasts” unless requested to do so. Goral claimed that he was asked multiple times by different females to grab their breasts for photos, adding that he had received that request several times that evening.

First I am thankful for the parents and the upbringing I had. While we weren’t the “Cleavers” we went to church, did family picnics, went to family gatherings for Christmas, celebrated birthdays together, worked together on the farm, and did other “family” things together. school I missed was when I had pneumonia once. My mom took me to school every day when I had pink eye even though I couldn’t go into the classroom. I got credit for being there. I had loving, caring parents who guided my education and religious experiences while taking care of my physical needs. Later in life in my career in law enforcement I would see firsthand many cases where parents did not take care of their children or even abused them. I would then realize I had taken my upbringing for granted. I

would come to realize how important it is to have loving parents who were good examples. Another gift I received was that of a close knit relationship with my aunts, uncles and cousins particularly on my mother’s side of the family. My aunts and uncles provided solid role models for me in their personal lives, business and work dealings and in their places in our church. I would observe these people and their actions as I grew up and come to realize how solid role models affect you. At one time my mother’s two sisters, her brother their children and my grandmother and step-grandfather all attended the same church. It was like a family reunion every Sunday.

During my career as a police officer I was lucky enough to meet my adopted family. Although my mother is gone now I have an “adopted” mom and sisters who claim me as their own. Through tragedy we have grown close. Again I was lucky. My job took me down several paths I never expected and also introduced me to people who played a pivotal role in my life. The next “life gift” I have received are my friends. Some have always been around, some I have known for years but have just gotten back in touch with and some are new. Many of my friends I made during my career as a police officer. One I went to high school with then got reacquainted with on a trip to Europe. That was the beginning of a great friendship. I

renewed some friendships at my last high school reunion. Some friends I just hang out with, others I go shooting or check out classic cars and hot rods. I have friends I ride motorcycles with. Now that I’m retired I often eat lunch or dinner out with friends. One friend I’ve known since grade school recently called to invite me to Thanksgiving dinner. We have been out of contact for years but he wanted to make sure I had somewhere to go on the holiday. Like I said, I’ve been lucky. I’m thankful for my gifts. If you haven’t thanked your friends lately for just being your friend maybe you should. I have been very fortunate in that I have been in good health most of my life. This has allowed me to get outside to shoot guns and ride motorcycles as well as travel abroad and in the United States. If you have your health you have a gift that’s immeasurable. Another fantastic gift I’ve received have been my pets. I’ve had some great cats but my dogs have given me many great times and memories. They have made me laugh and smile even in some very dark times. They are always glad to see me when I come home and are forgiving when I am grumpy. My pets give me unconditional love. It hurts like hell when they pass on but the time I’ve had with them is invaluable and unforgettable.

United States of America. I am proud of our country and proud I am a United States citizen. I make no apologies for our country. I support our military. I stand during the National Anthem and during the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. I don’t understand those who do not. Citizens of the U.S. have freedoms and rights unlike anywhere else in the world. Yet some would disrespect the symbols that represent the sacrifices of our military and that represent our country. I will apologize for these selfish, ungrateful, spoiled individuals who disrespect our National symbols allegedly due to some selfserving “protest”. I thank our military veterans every chance I get. As Hank Williams said, “if you ain’t into that I don’t give a damn”. But back to my being thankful for these “life gifts”. I am immensely grateful and try to “count my blessings” when life throws me a bump in the road. This Christmas season count your blessings. Maybe they are life gifts. Perhaps you will realize you have been given some tremendous gifts you have taken for granted or didn’t realize you had gotten. To My Family: Love you guys. To my friends : Like the song says ‘Thank you for bein’ my friend.” To our Military Veterans: Thank you and God Bless

Lastly I want to mention my Merry Christmas. tremendous good fortune in that I am a citizen of the - Mark Haskins ENIGMA

Male Feminists: Is It A Surprise For Male Feminists To Be Accused OF Harassment? A few weeks ago, a number of women accused a well-known Hollywood producer of raping, assaulting, and sexually harassing them. And, since then, a number of other women have come forward. It hasn’t stopped there, though, as a number of other high profile men have also been accused of the same thing. In a way, it is as if what has happened with this producer has given other women the all clear.

who had their reputation ruined for doing so. When this took place, they would have done the right thing; shamefully, the same thing couldn’t be said about the people who were supposed to help them. This shows that not only did this producer have a lot of control in Hollywood; they also have a lot of control when it came to the media. It Was Normal

A Big Cover Up Some of the women who are now speaking out against this producer are said to have done the same thing many years ago, but they were not give the support that they needed. There are even actresses

It has been said that if someone knows when something bad is happening but they don’t anything about it, they are also to blame. Perhaps the actors and actresses who lecture others are simply doing what they can to make themselves feel better.

It Goes On It doesn’t end there, though, as there have been a number of other “male feminists” who have also been accused of behaving inappro-

A Bad Conscience If, on the other hand, a man is behaving in a way that causes women harm, then this can fill him with a lot of guilt and shame. One way for him to deal with this guilt is to present himself as someone who is highly supportive of women.

A Facade The feedback that he receives through doing this can keep his true feelings at bay; the trouble is that if his stops behaving in this way, he will soon be consumed by how he truly feels. This is then why he needs to continue to behave in this way.

Interestingly, this was a producer who supported a number of differently causes, which created the impression that he was a moral human being. For example, this was someone who joined the women’s march earlier this year. The purpose of this march was for women to express their anger at Donald trump, who had just become the president of America. What had played a part was that this was someone who had been accused of behaving in a sexually inappropriate manner, amongst priately. Untimely, the image that other things. these men presented to the world didn’t match up with who they realAnother Occurrence ly were. A few months before the story broke about this producer, it came out that a film director and screenwriter had also abused his power. This was someone who had been seen as a “feminist ally” since the late nineties.

Conclusion What this shows is that when someone is drawn to a certain cause or movement, it can be a way for them to avoid themselves. Through feeling so bad about themselves, please certain woman can then be they have the need to come across seen as a way for him to get the as though they are holier than approval and attention that he des- thou. perately needs. - Oliver JR Cooper

One then has to wonder if they truly believed this in movement, or if they just went along with it in order to please the opposite sex. Maybe this is just a way for them to indirectly fulfil their own needs. Two Sides

During the time that this person was married, it was said that he had numerous affairs with women. While this was going on, he spent plenty of time talking about feminism and how important it was for men to support this movement.

When a man doesn’t support this movement but he acts as though he does, it could show that he doesn’t feel comfortable in his own skin. Deep down, he may feel ashamed and guilty.

And Justice For All? Dear California please secede from the Union already. Get out. Ever since the “verdict” finding Jose Ines Garcia Zarate innocent of the murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco I’ve seen nothing but red. I’m so mad I’ve written this article and edited it in

had been deported five times and was wanted for yet another deportation at the time of the shooting. Besides being in this country illegally he has been charged and convicted previously with seven felonies. Defense attorneys for Zarate stuck by his story

Supposedly Zarate said he had the gun on the pier and was playing with it – literally and I’m not making this up – dropping the gun. When it hit the ground it fired and ricocheted striking Steinle dead. Ballistic tests would prove this is impossible except maybe in the state of California. involuntary manslaughter. Instead they found him guilty of being a felon in possession of a gun. The standard sentence is three years. He has been held in jail since the incident for two years and most likely he’ll get time served, perhaps serve another year in jail before they decide to send him back to Mexico so he can for a seventh time come to the United States illegally. The not guilty verdict showcases what is imperially wrong with the state of California and the United States. Our “justice” system is an injustice system and our “legal” system is an Illegal system that puts those that have no business being in the country better protection under the law than actual taxpaying citizen’s whose tax

dollar funded the defense of this career criminal. And you wonder why Donald Trump won the election. Our immigration system is out of control – or actually lack of it. Every country in the world has borders. Within our states we have borders, our cities, neighborhoods, etc. all have borders. I find irony that many preach diversity and multiculturalism yet want no borders. Without borders you can’t have diversity. Everything runs together and becomes grey or beige. Blah. Part of being of different cultures and nationalities is we are all independent because of it and have our own identity. How can we appreciate diversity if we do away with it and everyone becomes the same?

ENIGMA

I am in total shock at the absolute lack of respect everyone has for the laws of the United States involving not only the borders but also the way this country governs. America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. Part of being free involves responsibilities in order to remain free. Part of being a democratic republic is to keep everything balanced and not allow trends or fads to take over what the country does as a whole. Mob rule doesn’t work and never does. Mob rule eventually leads to dictatorship. And if a growing number of people in the country legally and illegally has their way that’s where the country is headed. It’s becoming all about power by a growing ruler class that the “masses” are either too blind or too dumb to see.

DECEMBER 2017

Blame the Democrat Party. The United States is a series of checks and balances between different branches of government. Since its inception the United States population for a majority of the time aligned with the Democrat Party. I’m not sure why. Maybe because of the name and not the policies. People are that dumb when they vote. That is also why it is proven if your name is listed at closer to the top of a ballot ion an election and the voter doesn’t know any of the candidates they tend to vote to names closer to the top. All of the issues that continue to divide this country were originally ideals of the Democrat Party or changed thanks to the Republican Party. If you would only do a

little research instead of getting all your information from social media you might be interested to find out it was the Republican Party that pushed the ending of slavery,

The latter being thanks to Teddy Kennedy and you can look it up if you don’t believe me. I’m not going into the KKK, but you might be surprised how many high ranking Democrats including a number of presidents, governors,

upset at the Democrat Party. Even today as 2017 comes to an end minorities are treated like second-class citizens. And ironically the minorities relish in it. And while there are claims by the Left that President Lyndon Johnson did not say the famous quote that he would have black voting Democrat the next 200 years (using the “n” word instead - a word he and his family used regularly and has been documented as such).

What the Democrat Party did was exploit minorities for power to stay in charge. It’s basically a payoff. Government dependence Minorities should be the most exploited by the government is discussed heavily in Eric Foner’s book, “Reconstruction: America’s Unfinished Revolution”. In it, it is discussed by allowing the newly freed black population to become dependant of the government for their wellbeing instead of teaching them to take care of themselves will guarantee the political power a loyal voting block.

Party and now the Republican Party falling in line is the takeover of America’s freedom by a growing and developing ruling class. Prior there were low, middle and income classes. While those three remain, they are now being led in whole by a ruling class dead set on dictating not only how everyone lives their lives but what they think as well. What is happening before our eyes is a total 360 of our country that came over here from Europe to get away from an overbearing big government. their hand and in return receive a pittance of compensation as long as you go along and follow the rules. The United States government is set on becoming bad parents that basically shut their kids up by throwing money or gifts at a problem instead of solving them or actually realizing they are the problem. What has set the United States apart from the rest of the world and for that matter the envy of the rest of the world is in the process of being overturned. And why? The plaque on the Statue of Liberty reads, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” This country has been a bastion to freedom and a refuge for those looking to create a new life. Part of coming to America, the world’s melting pot is to blend in and not stand out. To create a new life you have to get rid of your old ways. You don’t have to completely abandon them but realize if you are going to live here in order to succeed you have to assimilate to a degree. And that is what part of the problem with an open immigration policy and lax border patrol in this country. Sure, we welcome everyone but there is due process to becoming a citizen. Everyone that is a United States citizen’s ancestors who came her except for Native Americans had to do so. I don’t understand why that is such a problem now. But that’s actually part of the plan of the ruling class.

power can increase their power over the country by throwing bits and pieces to those not in the country. They use sympathy and altruism proclaiming how great they are by helping those less fortunate than they that come into this country all the while over looking what is going on in their own backyard where there are those already in this country in need. Eventually this includes adding to the voting block allowing those not in this country to vote and even serve in government and the military. What I never understood by those in the country illegally is if you want to make this country your home, why don’t you want to become legal citizens? All your fear could have been cast aside by simply going through proper immigration. It’s not rocket science, it’s the law – at least it used to be. The problem with illegal immigration is not the United States; instead it’s Mexico. I don’t blame Mexico for letting Jose Ines Garcia Zarate leave their country. He’s a bad human being. Granted not all illegal aliens are bad human beings just as not all Americans are bad human beings. But here we sit at the end of 2017 in North America (I’m counting both Mexico and Canada here) one has to wonder why no one is addressing the elephant in the room. Why is Mexico such a bad place to live that a number of their citizens are fleeing?

There is a problem in the 21st century for a developed counWith open borders, those in try with an abundance of nat-

ural resources available to sell and trade in the world market (oil, produce, popular vacation destinations, etc.) that they do not have clean drinking water. It’s been a running joke, although it’s not that visitors are warned not to drink the water out of the taps. Mexico is run like a glorified Banana Republic. There are plenty of riches in Mexico but the only ones benefiting are the ruling class and no one else. Why isn’t this being addressed instead of the United States being criticized for wanting to protect their borders and insisting if you wish to stay in the country you must become accountable? The United States is not the bad guy here; it’s Mexico’s government. That is where human rights are being violated – not here.

And this brings us back to the insane not guilty verdict of Jose Ines Garcia Zarate in the death of Kate Steinle. It proves everything that is wrong with a New World Order, the Democratic Party, the state of California and more specifically the city of San Francisco. As a kid I wanted to live in California, the land of beautiful weather, beautiful people, warm weather and movie stars. What more could a guy want? As I got older that faded, as California became more of a police state with more regulations and taxes than anywhere else with the exception perhaps of New York. Hollywood lost its luster as it went from having talent to being pretty or superficial. And superficial is a per-

fect way to describe those in Hollywood. True artistry and talent is everywhere – not just Hollywood and New York. And the tax liabilities are better elsewhere than in the two media mega-centers. Thanks to the Internet and social media you no longer need these places to be discovered or for that matter famous. California seems to prefer to make their own rules, judge others that don’t agree and then when their own legislation or a natural disaster happens they want to run to the rest of us to bail them out. When if they would look at the problems they have they would realize they are the architects of their own demise. If they want to secede from the United States, by all means do so. But don’t come to us to bail you out.

Look to your neighbor below the border for help – Mexico. I never met Kate Steinle and most likely I wouldn’t know who she was if she wasn’t murdered by Jose Ines Garcia Zarate (I don’t care what the jury says). What Steinle has become is the poster child of what is not only wrong with our lax immigration system, but our legal system and society as a whole. And why I know it was never her intent to be martyr for anything remotely political. Truth be told I wish I never knew who Kate Steinle was. Not because I have anything against her but because of the reason I know who she is – or should I say was.

Free Speech: Does The Attack On Free Speech Show How Feminized The Western World Has Become? While men are a physical expression of the masculine and women are a physical expression of the feminine, it doesn’t mean that each sex only has masculine or feminine traits within them. Now, this is not to say that each person on this planet is made up of half of one side and half of the other. A Big Difference It would be easy to say that men are more masculine on the inside and women are more feminine on the inside. The reason this is easy to say is that it doesn’t require much thought. In reality, there are men on this planet who are more feminine than some women and women who are more masculine than some men. What is going on internally and what is taking place externally will play a part here.

and inclusivity, for instance, are words that are often expressed in today’s world. One way of looking at this would be to say that the reason the western world has become more feminised is due to the fact that this is the natural state of human beings and nature itself. Way Back In the past, boys would go through different rituals and rites of passage in order to become men. This, then, allowed them to develop their own masculine identity; without this, it wouldn’t have taken place. Nowadays, this is not something that really takes place for young boys - in fact, a lot of them grow up without a father. The boy is then likely to take cues from his mother when it comes to how to

behave and what to believe, and this can set him up to be a people pleaser or a ‘nice guy’ - thereby setting him to live a very frustrating existence. More of the Same It won’t end there, though, as he is likely to end up in a school that is primarily made up of female teachers, and this will probably be the case if he goes to university. This is likely be a time when he will be expected to take on even more feminine values and behaviours (and he may even be told that men are to blame for everything and that masculinity is “toxic”). But with that aside for the time being, it is not much of a surprise to hear that the masculine element needs to be developed whereas the feminine element just is. Everything on this planet that has been built will gradually disappear if it is not maintained, and this is the masculine element in action. Being and Doing Ultimately, the masculine is about doing and the feminine is about being. Thus, if a human beings nat-

when someone develops the masculine aspect within them, which will stop them from feeling victimised by what people say. One will then be able to assert themselves and to find their centre, as opposed to being tossed around by life. Conclusion Telling people that they have a right not to be offended is, in many ways, setting them up to suffer unnecessarily. What this also overlooks is the fact that whether or not someone is offended generally depends on how they interpret what has been said or done and not on what has actually been said or done. At times, life can be tough, and what can make it even tougher is when people are conditioned to believe that other people control how they feel. It is then as if the powers that be are more concerned with controlling people than they are with empowering people.

Tori Amos Invades Melodically on Native Invader Tour me. I was very familiar with it as it was Nirvana’s breakout song from the year before. This version was done as a piano ballad with one of the softest voices Ii ever heard. It was a definite contrast to Kurt Cobain’s angry version. I kind of laughed at the version and asked Uncle Don who was doing that version. He answered Tori Amos and handed me the deluxe version of her debut album, Little Earthquakes. I hated her version of “Smell Like Teen Spirit” but as I listened to the rest of the album I really became intrigued by the music and Amos’ fragile voice. The songs were pianobased compositions with intricate layers and soaring vocals. I remember listening to singles like “Crucify” and “Silent All These Years”. The music was simply Amos’ voice and piano a far departure ©Dave Weinthal My old Uncle Don always had see what he was listening to from what was playing on the the best music and still does. and he played the song radio in the era when grunge I remember long ago I came to “Smells Like Teen Spirit” for was all the rage. The music was great, and they were great but they sat behind their pianos the whole time. The music was nice but the show was kind of boring. Piano music to me for the longest time was best heard and not seen. Showmanship didn’t arrive until Elton John dressed things up with his wild costumes unique eyeglasses and flamboyant shows. He was able to bridge that gape in boredom from the original piano gods Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis who pioneered making the piano fun to watch. John brought back the piano to the
