Is the Millennial Generation Changing American Society? In this post-modern society there seems to be a good deal of knowledge, or at least opinion, on the topic of the millennial generation. While I hate to over-generalize, the literature seems to be based firmly in two opposing camps. One side of the argument finds that millennials are lazy and narcissistic. They tend to be too demanding and their perceived needs read more
bad. There is very little consensus on what exactly a millennial is. Most scholars do agree that millennials were born roughly between 1980 and 2000. This group grew up on technology and saw their Baby Boomer parents do relatively well economically. They saw the dominance of the New York Yankees and never For those unaware exactly knew the challenges of televiwhat a millennial is, don't feel sion watching with only a like a list of fairy tale inspired wants. The other side of the argument finds that millennials are truly a ground breaking generation that is re-writing the rules of a fundamentally flawed society. As with most things in life, I tend to find myself in the all too comfortable mushy middle.

handful of channels. I'd guess they have never seen a black and white television. In many ways, millennials get a bad reputation. Saddled with college debt and dim economic prospects, more than a few are still living with their parents, when most would argue they should be out on their own. Many of the group shun the traditional
rites of passage, such as getting a driver's license, seeing the freedom a vehicle can provide not worth the economic cost. Many were trying to enter the workforce during the Great Recession. Armed with little experience, but lots of education, many in this group are economically stuck and have yet to hit their stride towards economic security. Yet, many industries look at the millennial generation in complete awe and wonder. Communities of all shapes and sizes are tripping over themselves to try to attract this cohort to their community. Some believe that this demographic is uniquely creative; they are digital natives that can whip up the next smartphone app that will do the next big thing. There are more than a few businesses and industries that are willing to make wholesale changes to their operations and business models to cater to this demographic group.
Personally, I find both approaches a bit over the top. I tend to think ever since the dawn of time, every generation though the next generation was a bunch of slackjawed hacks that would not cut it in the world. I would bet that Orville and Wilbur
Wright's parents often joked that if humans were meant to fly, God would have given us wings. It is part of the human experience, when you are coming of age, the generation older than you will point out your weaknesses and tell you
that you can't cut it. But of course, we all realize that is not necessarily true. Every generation has its own challenges and battles and they always come up ahead on the other side. It's hard to say that on balance, we are not better off than we were a gen-
eration ago. Yet, I can't find myself fully supporting the side of the argument that feels that millennials hold the key to future success. Why? It's for the simple fact that this group has not stopped growing. In many
circles, millennials are believed to wanting to live in loft apartments in urban environments using bicycles to get around. In fact, there may be plenty of empirical evidence to back such a statement up. Yet, what if these millennials get married and start to have children? Will the loft apartment provide enough space for a growing family? Will the minivan become the chariot of the masses, rather than the bicycles? Will the urban environment have the high quality schools that these new parents want for their new children? The point I am trying to make is that I believe it is really hard to try to make large changes that can impact other generations based on the wants and needs of a generation that is still not fully matured and whose wants and needs are going are still changing themselves.

MONEY MANAGEMENT
HOW DO I ESTABLISH CREDIT? How do I best position or establish myself to be able to obtain financing? Whether it is for a car or a home, the beginning is the same. It has been my experience that most car financing companies are looking for a minimum of credit that has already been established and proven for a minimum amount of time. What do I mean by this? As a Business Manager at car dealerships for over 10 years I have found these companies are looking for at least 3 trade lines (3 types of credit) usually credit card, installment loan, and perhaps a line of credit with at least one of them being for a minimum amount of $2500 dollars. This is how I recommend you start to establish credit. Once you do this you are well on your way to a 700 plus credit score. This is only one way to accomplish this. Take $2,500 from savings and open a secured line of credit. For those who do not have $2,500 start with $500 and follow the same steps. I am available to help anyone with an individual plan. Now, this can be done usually at a local credit union as they have different rules then your traditional bank-
ing institutions. For those who are not familiar with the secured concept you will deposit the money in the bank and agree to leave it there while the bank opens an account in the amount you deposited. Make your first transaction in your line of credit a deposit of $1,000 dollars and open a secured installment loan. This can actually be done at the same institution on the same day and then take the check they give you and deposit that check into an account to open a secured credit card. This will give you 3 different type of credit accounts with one of them being at least $2,500! Having made these transactions you will have a total of $4,500 dollars in credit extended to you. Now all you need to do is make your payments on time for the next 6 to 9 months and you will have created a very good credit score with all the qualifiers the financing companies are looking for. This is not always as easily done as said. There are other considerations you want to keep in mind. You will need to utilize these accounts and keep track of what
you spend in these accounts. To achieve the best credit score I suggest you keep your charges at no more than 40% of the accounts available credit and keep your monthly balance at or below 30% of your credit limit. This will show the credit companies that you use the credit responsibly and give you the best scores you can achieve with the credit scoring models. This has been my experience over the course of my financing career. While I don't claim to know the actual formula this is what has produced the best scores with my clients in the past. By the time you have done this and made these payments on time you will have the credit necessary to purchase your first financed car. Now you will need to have the financial means (income) for most folks that is a job but the type of income is of less importance then the amount of income as these companies use a table of ratios to qualify you. Provided you meet their criteria you will get a car loan approved in your name.
qualified for a car loan. We have no reason to think you have not given up on the plan and have gone ahead and made your car payments for the following year. You will have made all your payments on time for over 2 years. On over 4 different types of credit now you should be able to qualify or least be credit worthy of qualifying and applying for a mortgage. You will have made all your payments for 2 years straight and established yourself as a good credit risk. You have raised the levels of your credit to a point well above the $4500 level when you bought your car. Now you need only have the income and savings qualifiers to get approved for a home loan. When you apply to buy a home you will be subject to qualifying based on a table of ratios; bills to income, payment to income both before and after the house payment is taken into consideration. By following the rules and steps laid out in this article you should be credit worthy to buy a home that is within your means. You will have established your credit and achieved a good credit score.

The Netanyahu Visit By the time Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu actually spoke to Congress, it was all a bit anticlimactic. Last Tuesday’s speech was controversial not because of its content, which was predictable, but because of the circumstances that led up to it. On January 21, House Speaker John Boehner broke with traditional protocol when he invited “Bibi” to present his views on U.S. negotiations with Iran regarding the latter’s ability to develop nuclear technologies. Boehner’s breach of etiquette came when he failed to inform President Obama of his intentions. Presidents traditionally don’t invite foreign leaders to speak in this country when they have upcoming elections. The Israeli elections are scheduled for March 17…
effort to undermine Netanyahu, but polls show that a strong majority of Israelis believe he is. Polls also show that Obama’s perceived meddling is actually leading to more support for the incumbent PM…
…Obama and Netanyahu have a bit of a history. The Israeli PM supported Republican candidate Mitt Romney in the 2012 elections and his relationship with Obama has been understandably strained

ever since. The U.S. gives Israel $3 billion a year in aid and considers the Jewish state its strongest ally in the Middle East. When Israel gets a bit overzealous in its attacks on Palestinian settlements, U.S. vetoes are often the only thing standing between Israel and United Nations sanctions. So why would Netanyahu want to antagonize Obama by accepting Boehner’s invitation without discussing the matter with the president? A lot of it comes back to those impending elections… …Some Israelis are convinced that Obama is meddling in their election. Former Obama campaign workers have allegedly launched campaign teams throughout Israel that some experts say are indirectly funded by U.S. State Department funds. There is no solid evidence to show that Obama is personally directing the

…Back to the content of Netanyahu’s speech. He predictably warned of the dire consequences if Iran were to get approval for a nuclear program. Secretary of State John Kerry and other leaders are meeting with an Iranian delegation in Montreux, Switzerland, to see if they can come to an agreement on a timeline for Iran’s nuclear energy efforts. The Iranians claim they want highly enriched uranium for nuclear power plants, but Israel and other countries don’t want Iran to get even one step closer to being able to create nuclear weapons. For his part, Netanyahu has been claiming that Iran is on the brink of having nuke capability since 1996. Iran says it wants to be free of the international trade sanctions that have crippled its economy. Israel is against any agreement that gets the Iranians more highly enriched uranium, regardless of the stated motivations… …So what did Netanyahu’s speech really accomplish? It’s hard to tell. It perhaps put more pressure on Kerry and the other negotiators in Montreux. It made the already contentious Obama-Bibi relationship even more testy. It gave Boehner’s ego a brief boost before the GOP-led House fully capitulated on the issue of fully funding the Department of Homeland Security. It might have given Netanyahu a poll bump among anti-U.S. Israelis. But mostly it was political theater on an international scale…

Dear Rocco, I tried to help a friend out in sales. I went to place an order with him to give him some business. When I got the bill I was shocked. He and I have been friends for many years and I have always cut him deals on whatever he needed from me. No such luck the other way around. He charged me more than what I could get from one of his competitors. I went cancel my order when I found out what I was being charged and he refused to cancel my order. I have since refused to accept delivery. He keeps calling me to harass me about it. I don’t want his business now. I feel like he took advantage of our so called friendship to pad his sales pocket. What do you think I should do? BG

Dear Rocco, I have what appears to be a simple problem: A childhood friend found me on Facebook and wants to be my Friend, and I am faced with a monumental decision. This “friend” was never a good friend of mine anyway, but was friends with my friends. All these “friends” I no longer consider to be friends. They are all lovely, good people, but they are also small-minded and rather boring ... like most people in my hometown. All they seem to represent is a fear, a fear of a life I could have chosen had I not wanted to flee it. A life of boredom, a life of satisfaction with whatever you’ve been handed. These people live within a mile or two of where they grew up, are active volunteers (good people, right? salt of the earth) at the schools we went to. They’ve never gone far and they don’t seem to want to. It scares and infuriates me. Deep down I think it gets to some problem of mine that I’m sort of curious about. But the problem is, if I don’t Friend this guy, that’s just mean. I’ve never turned down a request. But the other option is worse. If I do Friend him, it will open up the floodgates of mediocrity. It will signal to the rest of them to come after me, to inspect my life, to comment on and judge it, to reduce me to a “Seinfeld” character (everything in life can be reduced thusly by them). I don’t live a crazy life at all! I just happened to have moved. I just don’t want their snarky comments. I don’t want to know that people can lead such sad lives. But I feel so bad being forced to deny or delete them. I would rather they never contact me and vice versa and let the past be the past. I want nothing to do with them, but I don’t want them to know that. TM
Dear Rocco, I am torn between two wonderful men. One is dependable, reliable, sweet and kind and loves me with the sort of conviction I hardly understand myself. We spent many years together, and although our relationship was sometimes tumultuous (mostly my fault, now largely under control), we did and still do love each other tremendously. I trust that he would be by my side if I needed him, without question. Life with him would be financially stable and easy. I am still attracted to him, but he is a very contemplative, somewhat humorless man who goes through life taking both himself and everything else much too seriously. The other is funny. Really, really funny. He is generous and encouraging. Financially, this situation is not as good. Money would be tight between us, and it would likely not improve in the long term. This man’s greatest attribute, to be honest, is that he makes me into a more positive, more lively person. His energy is positive and fun, so it’s easy to feel the same around him. In a way, I feel as though I am trying to decide between a lighthearted relationship that will eventually turn sour (but is very much fun for now), and a more serious and, dare I say slightly, more levelheaded situation that would likely remain steady and provide me with a very comfortable and nice life if only I commit

WOOD STREET VILLAGE, England (UPI) - Pranksters in an English town installed a toilet, sink and toilet paper holder at an outdoor bus stop, local officials said. Worplesdon Parish Council Clerk Gaynor White said pranksters have repeatedly targeted Worplesdon bus stops with acts of destructive vandalism, but the latest act, dis-
covered Monday in Wood Street Village, is in its own league. “I received a phone call just before midday and the groundsman said ‘you will never guess what I have found,’” she told Get Surrey. “I have been the parish clerk for 15 and a half years, and I have never seen anything like it — it is hysterical really.” “The key question is — should this be considered a bus shelter improvement or simply money

When Is It Time To Give Up On A Show? After working two weeks straight with no days off as a manager of a restaurant (due to being understaffed), I finally got to sit down the night before my weekend starts. Upon doing so, I started to browse my Hulu Plus inventory of the shows I watch and realized how severely behind I am. I am proud to say I watch and keep up with twenty-six different shows. I also work full time and take online college classes; I also like to sleep as well. My stress level is through the roof and I have trouble finding time to just sit down and relax, let alone try to catch back up on my shows. So today I sat and wrote down all the shows I watch and decided I needed to put some on the chopping block. These decisions were some of the hardest I've made in terms of non seriousness. But it had to be done. I am here to talk about when it's time to let go of a show. Do I even care about these characters? One thing that is so special about television series is that you can flesh out story and characters over dozens of episodes and hours. But sometimes a show can't get a real grip on their creations. For example, one of the shows I'm done with is going to be The Blacklist. Yes, see you later James Spader. Honestly James Spader is the best part of that show and don't try to say anything different. He is perfect in that role. But unfortunately every other character is severely under developed. I would even go as far as saying Spader's character isn't all there. After almost two full seasons I expect you to make me care about the series regulars in some fashion. The Blacklist fails miserably at doing so. What's going on?
but how many monster of the week episodes can you take? Seriously, it drove me up the wall towards season 4. I just can't fathom why people like that setup for a show. Don't feel obliged! If at any point over the course of a few episodes, if you feel in any way, shape or form like you don't want to watch anymore, don't feel obliged. I know you spent hours upon hours involved with a show, but don't waste your time not enjoying something. It's okay to let go of a show, don't feel bad!

Some shows get so caught up the story and lore that they forget to take a breather. The Originals is one of the prime suspects in this category and is also another show I will stop watching. This crushes my soul since The Vampire Diaries is one of my favorite shows and The Originals began as an extension of that. After every episode, I keep on getting more lost. I honestly couldn't tell what the heck is going on currently on that show. The story they were trying to tell was also just plain boring. Serialized or Episodic? This is one of the biggest factors for me. If you are a sitcom so beit, I don't expect you to tell a elaborate story over the course of the season. If you are a 42 minute show though, I do expect a coherent story that ties into each episode and progresses a main arc in some sort of way. A prime example of this would be Supernatural and The Blacklist. I'm sure there are many other examples, but I couldn't tell you because I tend to avoid episodic hour shows. Supernatural admittedly had a fun first two seasons, ENIGMA

Are We Still Capable Of Having Functional Relationships Anymore? People in other countries must look at North Americans as very dysfunctional people when it comes to relationships. Many of our afternoon programming revolves around reality television shows like Steve Wilkos, The Maury Show, and the granddaddy of them all Jerry Springer. These programs portray us as incapable of having functional relationships, couples cheating on each other, lying, and some not even sure if they're children are theirs to start with. Two out of the three shows base their results on lie detector tests and D.N.A ones to prove themselves. These people think they're going to beat these tests, and when they're exposed continue to lie and deny. The sad part is the host becomes their moral compass explaining what they should do, and then offering counselling before they go home. The problem for me these are not isolated cases, as everyday there are dozens of people appearing with the same premise. I agree there were a lot of flaws with the previous concept of marriage and relationships in the past, women being oppressed by men, divorce was frowned upon, and wives were expected to be homemakers not allowed by society to work in a man's world. Today that has all changed which is a great thing, but the relationships do not seem to have the same long- term commitments or respect they once had. I'm sure there are millions of people who have functional caring loving
marriages, but television has these guys where the results always been based on social show they are not the Father. trends, and none committed relationships seems to play a big For me the concern is seeing
part in what is being shown. Is there something lacking in home training teaching children morals and ethics? I can see people maybe making a mistake getting pregnant thinking the relationship would last, or a legitimate accident occurred. If someone could explain to me how any man could be proud having multiple children, with several women, not supporting any if these kids, and slacking off saying they're not theirs? More times than not on these shows it is their child, and I find these people despicable irresponsible human beings abandoning their incent children. In all fairness there are also women who purposely have children with different men, and go on the system to raise them not knowing who the father really is. Sometimes trying to frame ENIGMA

what type of life are those kids going to have, and emotional challenges to deal with? Maybe when it comes to having children we need to revert back making it distasteful for those who do so out of marriage. I really do not know the answer. Yes I watch these shows from time to time because human nature intrigues me, which I guess makes me an enabler in a matter of speaking being part of viewing audience. Just ponder if any of these shows would even be considered to air forty or fifty years ago, they would have been considered adult rated, and the public would have been outraged. Television back in those times was more wholesome providing more of an escape from realty than an up-close view. I guess when all is said and done here maybe we are still capable of having Functional Relationships?
