How Do We Know The Global Warmists Are Wrong? It appears to me that the Global Warming Alarmists have attempted to turn the entire (bad) theory of AGW into a religion. It was working for a while, unfortunately the planet didn't warm for about a decade or more right in the middle of their plans to hijack the energy sector from the big boys using fossil fuels. The Cost of War Have you ever heard of DynCorp? I have to admit that I was unfamiliar with the company before recent reports revealed that the Virginiabased military contractor has received the lion’s share of U.S. government contracts for “reconstruction” in Afghanistan… …The State Department spent roughly $4 billion on such reconstruction between 2002 and March 2013. (The conflict in Afghanistan is our country’s longest sustained military action.) The government has awarded 1,874 contracts, grants and cooperative agreements to 771 organizations and individuals, according to a Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction

(SIGAR) report released last week. Most of the funds have been allocated to so-called “rule of law” projects… and almost all of those contracts have been awarded to DynCorp… …All told, DynCorp has received over $2.7 billion ($2,751,391,412.62 to be exact) during an 11-year span. According to the SIGAR report, the bulk of the DynCorp contracts were for the primary purpose of “police development.” The company has managed to maintain its contracts despite several scandals and serious questions about police development in Afghanistan. A 2007 SIGAR report determined that “DynCorp seemed to act almost independently of its

reporting officers at the Department of State,” and had billed the US government for millions of dollars for unauthorized work. The company settled that dispute in 2011 by paying the State Department $7.7 million. That same year, however, WikiLeaks revealed that the contractors hired an underage Afghan boy to “entertain” them. Despite its shady reputation, DynCorp gets more money from the State Department than any other contractor… …Despite my prior unfamiliarity with DynCorp, I am unsurprised that contractor abuse runs rampant in Afghanistan. When you look at the sheer volume of government money spent in the region, it’s a tempting target for shady businesses. According to a study by Brown University’s Watson Institute for International

Studies, the final tally of the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan will reach at least $3.7 trillion and could go as high as $4.4 trillion. Borrowing the money required to fight the wars is estimated to cost an additional $1 trillion, according to the study. Round that total to about $5 trillion. That’s $16,000 per American or $64,000 for a family of four… …How many other DynCorps are padding their corporate pockets during our “War on Terror”? I wish I knew. I wish I trusted the government to provide oversight over its own contracts. War is nothing but a business opportunity for some companies… and those companies make enough money to convince politicians to turn a blind eye to their greed…

MEDICAL DEBT NO 1 CAUSE OF FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY Medical debt is the leading cause of filing for bankruptcy in the United States. Medical debt can be accrued in a number of ways, but is most often due to a lack of proper health insurance or unforeseen medical conditions and emergencies that are not adequately covered by insurance policies. With the advent of the Affordable Care Act many people are hoping that this trend will not continue, but as of right now it remains a very real and pressing concern for millions of Americans, many of whom are faced with overwhelming debt and unsure where to turn.

debt as a big part of their problem. These debts come in the form of unexpected emergency room visits, which can be expensive even if a person has health insurance and are prohibitively so if the person does not. They also come in the form of dental work, which is a separate kind of insurance not generally covered by basic health plans. Dental work can easily run into the thousands of dollars, and is the kind of work that, when needed, is absolutely needed ASAP.

Another huge factor in outstanding medical debt that gives people thoughts of filing for bankruptcy is the outReasons for Medical Debt of-pocket costs of prescription medications. Blue Moon Beltline Boil Touted as a “Celebration of Community,Urban Accessibility and Low Country Cooking” the inaugural Blue Moon Beltline Boil went over well despite some uncooperative weather at times. The Blue Moon Beltline Boil was hosted near Fourth Ward Skate Park in Atlanta, GA and featured a wide variety of food drink and entertainment. Representatives from Rival Entertainment who helped put on the Boil and Bantam Pub presented $5,000 to this year’s The Beltline Boil winning charity, Operation P.E.A.C.E. The donation will go toward a Cultural Enrichment Tour, a four day trip to Washington DC designed to expose inner city, at-risk youth to museums, colleges, historical sites, the arts and other cultural experiences.

If crowd and reaction are any indication this is the first of many Blue Moon Beltline Boils that will soon join other events as a must attend Atlanta tradition.

GREELEY, Colo. (UPI) - Four Colorado fourth graders are facing discipline after they were caught with marijuana they had taken from their grandparents’ stashes. The two separate, but related, incidents happened earlier this week at Monfort Elementary School in Greeley and involved three 10year-old boys and a 10-year-old girl. “Over the past two days, we have had two separate incidents of students bringing marijuana into our school, both in the form of

loose-leaf marijuana and an edible form of the drug,” Principal Jennifer Sheldon wrote in a letter to parents. “We urge all parents, grandparents and anyone who cares for children to treat marijuana as you would prescription drugs, alcohol or even firearms. This drug is potentially lethal to children, and should always be kept under lock and key, away from young people.” The four students have not been charged, but they have been suspended. None of the parents or grandparents will face charges either. “The word of

warning is this stuff is dangerous and we wish they would secure it much like they would secure it much like they would a firearm or something that could get in the hands of kids,” John Gates, the director of school safety for Greeley School District 6, told KUSA. FORISTELL, Mo. (UPI) - A Missouri dad is facing charges after police pulled over his 13-year-old son on Saturday night after they observed a pickup truck swerving on Interstate 70 eastbound. David

Mooneyham, who was in the passenger seat, had asked the boy to act as his designated driver because he was drunk. It was the teen’s first time driving. “He thought he had a drunk driver,” Police Chief Douglas G. Johnson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “When the officer asked the driver for his license, he said, ‘I don’t have one.’ Instead the passenger handed over his license and registration.” The 46-year-old drank too much at his son’s baseball game, so

he asked him to drive. Mooneyham refused to do field sobriety tests, but he did register a BAC of 0.139 percent during a breath sample, nearly double the legal limit. He was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment and permitting an underage person to drive. “His closing comment was: ‘I guess this makes me a bad father,’” Johnson said. KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Police in Tennessee say 19-year-old Dallas Archer smuggled a gun into jail after she was arrested on a charge of driving on a suspended license. The report says a North American Arms 22-caliber mini revolver was discovered after a body cavity search. I’ll give you one guess which cavity the pistol was discovered in. What’s more, the revolver was loaded! A computer check later revealed that the weapon— which is four inches in length (I’m starting to like this girl) —had been stolen from an auto burglary in 2013. The pistol’s owner was identified and told what had happened. He commented that he would eventually like “the little fellow” returned, but added that the weapon would require “a bath in bleach.” Which is not the proper way to clean a gun. Archer was charged with possession of stolen property, illegal possession of a firearm and introducing contraband into the jail.

that she would rather give up her apartment than give up cigarettes. Beulah Toombs was given the opportunity to quit smoking when her apartment building in Milford went smoke-free a little more than a year ago. Toombs continued smoking in her unit at the AHEPA 127 Apartments and was labeled as “non-compliant.” Management asked her to quit one more time — Toombs declined. “I don’t think so,” she said in an interview with Cincinnati.com. “This is my home, and I think you can do whatever you want to in your home.” Residents at AHEPA 127 are lowincome seniors who pay discounted rent under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Section 202. “My mom is getting older, and this is causing her so much stress,” said daughter Mary Ann Burgoyne. “She kept telling me that she was paying her rent. She was a little confused. She thought they might put her in a debtors prison.” Burgoyne attempted to enlist a senior-advocacy group to help her mother, but was told this was “the future” and that Toombs should quit smoking. Toombs will be clearing out of the building in the next week or so.

American Deli with his sword and demanded that store employees give back his cellphone. “I thought we were going to get killed. He said he was going to slice all of us up,” deli employee Lee DeBiase told NBC 40. “He told us he was going to jump across the counter and that we better find his cellphone fast.” When the cellphone didn’t appear, Crump brought out the sword. “He took it out like he thought he was a samurai master. He started pointing it at everybody and swinging it around. He came pretty close to our faces and everything,” said American employee Mike Houseman. “I thought he was going to cut my face open with it.” “Another inch or so, Mike wouldn’t have an eye or a nose,” added deli worker David Valley. Someone called 911 and Lower Township Police arrived on the scene. Crump was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, terrorist threats and other weapons offenses. Luckily no one was injured. “When you look down at the blade of a samurai, your whole life changes,” DeBiase said. REGINA, Saskatchewan - Forget a degree. Stupid pays; sometimes. For the jerkoff last week who was busted for pissing in a drinking water reservoir, stupid did not pay, but for the idiot who stood two feet from a racing freight train in order to take a picture of himself, or a “stiffy” (or whatever the hell it’s called), stupid did pay. in the head at 30 miles-per-hour. You have probably seen the 10 second video. 22-year-old named Jared Michael Frank is standing in front (almost in front) of the train when you can hear a voice call out a warning and half a second later...WHAM! Boot to the head. As you can see in the video, the train’s engineer thought the close-to-aspeeding-train picture was bad idea. You might be wondering how getting kicked in the head at 30 miles-per-hour pays off. If you were guessing that the payday came from a lawsuit you would be wrong. It turns out the incident happened in Peru and Mr. Frank is Canadian. Liability laws don’t translate well from Peruvian to Canadian. Apparently media companies are in a rush to piggyback on the video and its 22 million YouTube views, and they’re offering Frank thousands of dollars in advertising and licensing opportunities. YouTube’s official monthly figures haven’t been totaled yet, but Frank could bank anywhere from $30,000 to $250,000. “I’m a little worried, but I have a decent relationship with the licensing company, so I trust them,” Frank said. So what is the lesson? Slow and steady wins the race? Look before you leap? The better part of valor is caution? Or maybe put yourself in danger in the stupidest way possible AS LONG AS YOU RECORD IT and maybe, just maybe, you can make your fortune.

faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class by the dogmatic Professor Radisson. Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that first day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words “God Is Dead” on pieces of paper, Josh find himself at a crossroads, having to choose between his faith and his future. Josh offers a nervous refusal, provoking an irate reaction from his smug professor. Radisson assigns him a daunting task: to prove God’s existence by presenting well-researched, intellectual arguments and evidence over the course of the semester, and engage Radisson in a head-tohead debate in front of the class. Heaven Is For Real PG Todd Burpo and Sonja Burpo are the real-life couple whose son Colton claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-offactly about things that happened before his birth ... things he couldn’t possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event. Oculus R Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force¬¬ unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again…

The Other Woman R After discovering her boyfriend is married, a woman tries to get her ruined life back on track. Along the way, they encounter a menagerie of characters who are born to be wild. Transcendence PG-13 Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed — to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn and best friend Max Waters, both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him. C OMIN G SO ON ENIGMA

Rob Thomas: Still Smooth After All These Years

What is it about Chris Martin and Rob Thomas? In all my years of covering concerts the one thing I’ve learned to either impress a date or find one for that matter is to go to either a Coldplay concert or a Matchbox Twenty show. Wednesday found me at the Tabernacle in Atlanta to see the Rob Thomas Trio, a night promised to be filled with songs from his 20 years in the business as both the lead singer of Matchbox Twenty and as a solo artist, not the mention the winner of three Grammys for his contribution to Carlos Santana’s rebirth with the release of the single “Smooth” off of Santana’s 1999 release Supernatural. It has been about 15 years since I’ve seen Matchbox Twenty and actually 21 years since I first saw Thomas when his band Tabitha’s Secret opened for Cake on the Motorcade of Generosity tour. I noticed a trend early on as I sat on the front steps of the Tabernacle before show time. Two-thirds to threequarters of the crows were female. The men that showed up were either on a date or overtly metrosexual except for yours truly. Like a kid in a candy store I went inside to check out the festivities.

Thomas opened the show with the second single off his first solo album “This is How A Heart Breaks”. Midway through the song the trio segued into “Jenny (8675309)” the infamous Tommy Tutone hit from the early ‘80s and deftly brought it back. The full house erupted. Thomas was quite personable and explained to the crowd he would be talking with them most of the night, however he asked that no one yell out any requests. Requests didn’t need to be yelled. With the first half of the two-hour set showing off songs from his solo work, the second half was almost like a Matchbox Twenty greatest hits set as he played everything from “3 A.M.” to “I Will”. The last three songs of the night were “Someday” from 2009’s Cradlesong, “Smooth”, his hit off of Carlos Santana’s multi-Grammy winning Supernatural and he finished the night with the Matchbox Twenty song “Bright Lights”. Thomas put on an insightful and entertaining story as he told the stories behind a number of the songs opening up to a crowd whose undivided attention he had and kept the entire night.

LOVE HIM OR LEAVE HIM, SCOTT STAPP STILL DELIVERS Granted it’s 2014 and not 1998, but Scott Stapp was definitely a flashback to days gone by as he came to Atlanta on his “Proof of Life” tour as he pulled into the Center Stage Theatre. Stapp catches hell from everyone. I, myself have given him grief in the past. Back in the day I joked to my girlfriend at the timethat Stapp did Eddie Vedder better than Vedder. A no-holds barred Pearl Jam fanatic (her late boyfriend often covered Pearl Jam in his cover band) and what I said was sacrilegious. During the early and mid ‘90s

when grunge was running the show a number of singers sounded an awful lot like Vedder. I often called Darius Rucker aka “Hootie” of Hootie and the Blowfish fame the back Eddie Vedder. Both Stapp and Rucker have a really nice and smooth baritone similar to Vedder. Stapp was almost a note for note copy while Rucker was a superior singer who could actually enunciate his words and sing intelligently and had a whole lo more soul – and I didn’t have to wear flannels or hiking boots to one of his shows.

And while Vedder and his band mates were fighting “the man” at Ticketmaster, Stapp and Creed, whom I saw for the first time (not even knowing it at the time) in 1996 at a crappy club in Chattanooga called The Bay. While Pearl Jam was becoming a nostalgia act, Creed was selling millions of albums and singles and headlining arenas before ego and self-righteousness and something about a backstage sex tape involving Stapp, Kid Rock and a groupie made news – then all hell broke loose.

without Stapp became Alter Bridge while Stapp tried to reinvent himself. Fast forward a few years as Stapp refound God (few remember Creed early beginnings can be traced to Lee College in Cleveland, TN). He and his band mates kissed and made up. They have toured together as Creed splitting time between Alter Bridge duties and Stapp’s solo work.

Needless to say, Stapp has his haters – usually today’s hipster crowd. But fear not, the hipster band day is coming as soon a whole new crowd will be Creed imploded and the band making fun of hipster and 2014

favorites like Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, The Black Keys and more soon enough. At the Center Stage it was like it was 1999 again as Stapp relished being the center of attention. The 20-year music veteran mixed new material along with Creed favorites like “My Own Prison” and “With Arms Wide Open” (his first encore song) like a boxer fighting his way through an untested opponent before figuring it out and going for the knockout. The knockout consisted of 14 songs and three encores to an appreciative crowd and oddly enough a tip to a less complicated time. Rock on, Scott! I SURVIVED A ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE

Rob Zombie is pretty much everything he bills himself to be and more. Zombie is a larger than life artist – both aurally and visually. He is able to channel his love for old horror cinema with his music that really defies any specific genres but easily hops between metal, techno and even rockabilly at times. This was never more obvious than Monday night at the Tabernacle. If you’ve never been to a Rob Zombie show you don’t know what you’re missing. The stage at this old House of Blues was barely big enough for a show of this magnitude. It was a treat for those attending as they piled in and on each other as Zombie and his band of masked marvels took the stage and rocked out for a couple of

hours tallying up 18 song selections. Some new material, classic Zombie as well as an ode to his old band, White Zombie played out at high levels to the unique looking crowd as some members tried to look the part in a Rob Zombie movie. The cool thing about Zombie’s show is that you have to watch as well as listen. The lights, the fog, the interesting stage props and visuals as well as Zombie’s growling vocals put the hyper-active crowd in a trance. While not choreographed, the movements of his band and Zombie himself was almost operatic and theatrical at times. But after all, isn’t that amongst his talents, he is a movie director when not stomping across a stage. ENIGMA

Also included in the show were a number of well placed and well done covers, all with a Zombie flair as the band covered everyone from Grand Funk Railroad to the original “Gods of Thunder”, KISS. There was something there for everyone – from the hardcore Rob Zombie fan to the casual (is there really such a thing?) who knows maybe a couple of songs from the Active Radio charts.
