ON SHAKY GROUND It’s been well over 25 years since the Replacements played in Atlanta.

That hiatus is up as the newly revamped and well-rested Replacements will be one of a myriad of bands performing Friday thorugh Sunday at Atlantic Station in Atlanta as part of the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta.

Be sure to check out Paul Westerberg and company along with Dawes, Canadian electronic dance music duo Adventure Club comes to Jenny Lewis and a ton more - too many to list for for me to remember.

Chattanooga Friday evening as they do their thing at Track 29. The duo has toured across North America, as well as parts of Europe and Australia and have played at various music festivals including the American Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, Nevada. They also made their first appearance at the Ultra Music Festival 2013 in Miami and also played at the Ultra Music Festival in Seoul, South Korea in June 2013. The duo's remix of "Crave You" by the Flight Facilities was featured in the episode "Restraint" (2012) of the MTV television series Teen Wolf.

Comic and movie star Chris Tucker will be in Chattanooga Thursday through Saturday performing to a sold-out crowd at the Comedy Catch. No word on whether Jackie TV's "SMASH" star Megan Hilty is coming to the Cobb Energy Performing Chan will make a guest appearance.

Late Night Shuffle I have a hard time imagining Stephen Colbert taking over for David Letterman on “The Late Show.” For two reasons.

Firstly, I’m a big fan of Letterman. I loved his original show on NBC, back when he used to follow Johnny Carson on “The Tonight Show.”(My son was born in the waning minutes of Letterman’s old show, after his mom (my exsports-hating-spouse) had been in the hospital for about 14 hours. Despite all of the birthing room drama, I was still able to keep one eye on the gap-toothed host and his guests.) After Jay Leno took over for Carson, late night viewers typically split into the Leno or Letterman camps. I was always in the Letterman camp. I doubt I watched more than a handful of Leno’s “Tonight Show” appearances and I don’t think I watched any of them in their entirety… …I’m also a big fan of Colbert.

Even though I have no idea what the real Stephen Colbert will be like on “The Late Show.” The over-the-top satirical host of “The Colbert

Ferguson denies this, however, and claims that he had just run his course after 10 years of following Dave. I didn’t watch Ferguson as much as I wish I had during those 10 years. His brilliant characters and total destruction of television’s “fourth wall” during his monologues were hilarious…

just keeps slugging along on TBS, his home since NBC and Jay Leno screwed him over back in 2010. O’Brien is awkwardly funny, but probably better suited for the fringe network. He got a $45 million payout after leaving NBC and graciously paid out $12 million to the staff members who followed him to California.

Conan is a good guy who seems at home on TBS… …I was lucky enough to grow up during the golden age of Carson. Johnny set the standard for late-night talk show hosting and no one has amazing. (Find his duels with matched it. Ed McMahon was Emma Stone and Joseph the definitive “sidekick” as Gordon Levitt if you haven’t seen them yet. You won’t be disappointed.) I get the feeling that Fallon can continue to grow into his hosting role. His impending late night showdown with Colbert will be fun…

Today’s late night hosts are still judged on overnight ratings, but they all get a bump from internet “shares,” “likes” and “follows.”

It will take a while for the recent late night shuffle to make an impact. I expect Letterman’s swan song to pick up steam and lead to a solid handoff to Colbert. Then we’ll see how the real Stephen matches up against Fallon…

Let's Talk About Inequality In the US inequality comes from poor choices, everyone is equal under the law. When we give money to the poor, they spend it at a business to buy something, thus, the investment class ends up with all the money in just a few transactions making the wealthy richer further exacerbating the problem - we cannot give free-money to fix this so-called concept of inequality - we need to be equal under the law, what you do with your abundant opportunity in the USA is your business. In the US we have the best overall deal thus, an abundant middle class, the more we screw with it the worse it will get.

Beware of the "inequality" buzz word.

ROCKFORD, Ohio (UPI) Nineteen-year-old Austin Dennison asked an older girl to go with him to his senior prom.

Much older, in fact, it was his great-grandmother.

Austin Dennison said he asked his Granny DD, Delores Dennison, to prom at Parkway High School in Rockford, because she never went to hers, Fox News reported. “I asked her if

she would be my prom date,” he said. “How cool would it be to take my great-grandmother to prom?” “He was so sweet and adamant about it,” Delores, 89, said. “I asked him, ‘But are you sure that you wouldn’t like to take one of the young ladies who could get out there and do everything with you?’ He said no. ‘I want you.’”

OMAHA (UPI) - A Nebraska man made his way through a Walgreens store in Omaha dispersing pecks and pinching rumps before capping things off by licking an employee’s

head on his way out. Needless to say, he got arrested. The unnamed 35-year-old man was an equal opportunity creeper, as he reportedly “kissed and groped women and a man” inside the store. After a stop at the photo processing area, the man moved on to aisle nine and “grabbed a customer’s buttocks,” the Omaha WorldHerald reported. He then said, “Hey baby,” to a woman and kissed her while grabbing her behind. The man, who was also tossing items off shelves as he made his way through the store, briefly left before coming back and sitting on a counter. As police were taking him out, the man licked an employee’s head to say goodbye. He was charged with misdemeanor sexual assault and three counts of disturbing the peace.

CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. - It seems a former guard at a Cripple Creek casino in Colorado figured out a way to skim the place for a staggering $100,000 in cash. The story doesn’t say, but we can assume he did this over a period of time. But I guess the lure of all that cash laying around under his mattress was too much of a temptation. After quitting the casino

he casually walked into a Harley Davidson dealership and plopped down $6,000 for a used motorcycle. That is $6,000 in $20 bills.

Investigators into the money leaking out of the casino began to suspect the former guard, who earned a little over a thousand dollars a month, when he spent $35,000 in one month, in cash. But he wasn’t completely unprepared for being caught. He had a story all cooked up. He told investigators the money was from payoffs from Honduran drug dealers.

TORONTO (UPI) - Librarians at the Toronto Public Library were asked to remove copies of Dr. Seuss’ 1963 children’s book “Hop on Pop” from the establishment’s collection because it allegedly promotes violence. A document detailing the seven books the library has been asked to remove over the past year was posted online on Monday. The book “encourages children to use violence against their fathers,” according to the complaint. In addition to apologizing to fathers in the Toronto area, the complainant also asked that the library “pay for damages

resulting from the book.” The Materials Review Committee pointed out that the book is “humorous,” “well-loved” and that it has “appeared on many ‘Best of’ children’s book lists.”

The MRC also pointed out that the children in the Pulitzer Prize-winning author’s book are actually told not to hop on pop. Despite the complaint, the library opted to retain the book in the children’s collection.

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. (UPI) - An elderly North Carolina man lost his hand after he was struck by a plane while riding a lawn mower at Taylorsville Airport in Alexander County.

The pilot of the plane, 84-yearold Edward Eugene Sisson, didn’t see 74-year-old John Rufty on his lawn mower until just before impact. Rufty’s left hand was severed by the propeller of the plane during the collision. State Highway Patrol Sergeant Brian Owenby told the New York Daily News that Sisson was touching down on the airport’s grass landing strip on his way to visit family in the area. No one was on hand to warn Rufty about the plane because the airport doesn’t have a traffic controller.

“(Rufty) wouldn’t have been able to hear or see the plane coming,” Owenby said. “And the pilot was unable to see the driver until just before impact.”

The National Transportation and Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident but no charges are pending at this time. Sisson was not injured during the accident.

BEAVERTON, Or. - - Three women in, appropriately enough Beaverton, Ore., were arrested after twerking at an impromptu dance party in the Beaverton City Hall parking lot.

Police say one woman went to municipal court with two friends to pay a fine. The show began as they headed to the parking lot. Police say they exposed themselves as one of the women filmed the moves.

One lifted her skirt and urinated between two cars. They also were accused of bringing drugs to the Courthouse. Police stopped their car as they were driving away and arrested two 20-year-old Vancouver, Wash., women and a 22-year-old Portland woman.

Carlos Santana, Some Things Do Get Better With Age

It’s hard to believe Woodstock was 45 years ago.

That was around the time Carlos Santana started gathering mainstream success.

No w in his late 60s he has outlived a lot of his contemporaries as well as those who he’s influenced. Saturday’s show at Chastain Park Amphitheatre was no different as he put on a guitar clinic to a full house on a warm spring evening in Atlanta.

Santana with a 10-piece band in tow got the crowd grooving from the first note he hit torugh to the last – 17 songs in all – two as an encore. He

mixed his popular radio songs with music from his Latin roots as he paid tribute to everyone from Tito Fuente to the Vargas Blues Band, to Babatunde Olatunji. He skillfully meshed pop with Latin, folk, blues and rock as he put on a show for the ages.

Convinced that fate had brought me here, I raced through the entrance and into the crowd of sweaty fans swaying to “Total Fascination”, one of my all-time favorite Pretty Lights songs.

Coincidence you say? I think

not.

Neon glow sticks showered around me as I stood entranced by the scene before me. Bubbles floated over my head and the entire sky was illuminated by blue, green, purple lights flashing above me. A midnight rainbow. The ground glowed luminescent pink, orange, green, blue and purple under my muddy sneakers. And all around me electric pink tutu's, bras,

panties, and multicolored hula hoops seemed to float about in midair as if they were dancing on their own through the crowd.

I reached down and grabbed a handful of glow sticks and quickly fashioned myself a necklace and headband, and danced my way to the stage. Up front, the air was thick with clouds of smoke‌skunky smoke (if you know what I mean) but I

Leaving the intense club-esque scene at Krewella, I weaved my way into a completely different dimension. The rave scene at Boys Noize was less intense, and at the same time more intense, in a different way. The atmosphere was full of energy, excite-

Flux Pavilion and Tycho were the last acts of the night, the last acts at CounterPoint Festival 2014, and they were scheduled to play at the same time! So I

had to choose…and I chose Flux Pavilion and what an amazingly awesome choice that was. I danced and jumped and screamed and then laughed at the man next to me wearing nothing but a light up, cheetah print speedo and a bow tie.

PRICELESS! The whole festival was priceless, and I sucked in every moment of it.

Counterpoint was a come as you are, be who you are experience.

It was an opportunity of a lifetime for me to see these amazing artists and to unite and connect with so many people through the music. And it filled my soul.

ALABAMA - FELT AND SOUNDED SO RIGHT

It’s hard to believe that the band Alabama was formed 45 years ago.

It seems like only yesterday I kept hearing their song, “Love In the First Degree” over and over again until I literally almost got sick.

They’ve been a fixture around not only “Alabama” but close home in cities like Chattanooga where they had a charity concert close by for many years after they became household names. And of course they became America’s country band as they sent 21 straight singles to the number one position of the charts, something Elvis, the Beatles and even Madonna or Mariah Carey can’t compete with – nor will anyone eve, for that matter.

Despite all the miles on these ole boys they put on one hell of a concert at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park just outside of Atlanta recently.

Seeing Alabama in concert was quite the contrast to what was taking place about 60 miles north of the venue. In Rome, GA the CounterPoint Music and Arts Festival was taking place, which is an EDM festival featuring some of the top electronic artists in the world. Alabama, on the other hand are real musicians who play their own music with traditional instruments without the aid of a computer or a bunch of software programs. The fans in attendance were also appreciative of actual ENIGMA

Randy Owens was on it all night and the harmonies brought chills to the crowd. While the group engaged the crowd they didn’t spend too much time babbling as they gave everyone their money’s worth.

Opening the show was Nashville’s Will Hoge. Hoge is a great live performer. His songs are solid and he and his band convey a lot of energy. Unfortunately none of his recordings have shown him any justice. Hoge deserves to be much further along than he is. If 2014
