Dear Rocco, I have always been the one-man kind of woman, even when I am just dating casually. Recently I started seeing three different men, two local guys, and one who lives out of state. Should I inform each that I am seeing other men? We all are dating casually and it is awkward to bring up. I have not lied to any of them but I don’t want to cause any major misunderstandings. What should I do? CS

Dear Rocco, I have been living with “Ted” for almost five years. We have even been talking about buying a house together. Shop With the Little Guys: Supportng the Small Business I have had a couple of recent experiences where I did business or patronized a small business and was glad I did so. My father believed in supporting the small business or “little man” and he set that example. I thought about that the other day as I was at one business so I decided that would be a good topic for my article this month. My girlfriend and I were out riding my motorcycle the other day and stopped into a business near Ringgold , GA (Southern Traditions 9534 Highway 41) to look at some chairs and a swing. While we were there we decided to get something to drink as it was a very warm day. At first we thought we could just wait until we got up the road where there

was a chain convenience store. I reconsidered and told her that we needed to give the business to “the little man” She looked con-

fused for a second and I explained that this store was locally owned not owned by some big corporation and that I would rather give my business to “the

little guy”. She readily agreed and we took our drinks to the counter. A pleasant looking bearded man wearing bib overalls greeted

me as the cashier rung up my purchase.. He thanked us for our business and asked if we were from “around here”. I told him we

were and I asked if he was the owner. He replied he and Catoosa County were. I laughed and told him I knew the feeling about property tax. It was pleasant conversation and I instantly felt glad we had made the decision to patronize the “ little guy”. Another smaller non-chain business that I have had frequent pleasant experiences with is Floyd Hardware at 10040 Dayton Pike in scenic Soddy Daisy, TN. When I walk into this store I am hit by memories of a hardware store in Cleveland that my dad patronized (except there are no radiator hoses or fly strips hanging from the rafters). There is usually a cat lounging about near the front door and I have always

been genially greeted as I come in the door. I have never had to wait for help as an employee always asks if they can help me find something. Most of the time I need their help. Whether its an oddball bolt for my 1940 Ford pickup or other hardware item Floyd Hardware usually has it. Especially if you are in Soddy or Sale Creek Floyd Hardware is fairly close to you and you are helping out a local business. Although it’s a little out of Chattanooga Webb Brothers Rafting Service and Store located at 3708 TN-30 Reliance TN, offers raft and funyak rentals. They will haul you up the river in the infamous “cattle truck “ which is really kind of fun or a school bus. I read a review where someone was “uneasy” about the truck ride. Hey, you are about to get in a mountain stream fed river with rapids! Live a little. I always thought the cattle truck ride was part of the fun. At the store you can buy camping or picnic supplies or get a souvenir t-shirt, check out historical artifacts or get some gas. The store has the old type pumps and Texaco sign and many people take a picture of their vehicle there at the retro pumps. The store opened in 1936 and was started by Oliver and Harold Webb in 1936 and is still owned by the Webb family. It was originally a general store and gas station. Oliver Webb was soon appointed Post Master and part of the store was turned into a post office. Eventually there was a library there also. The post office closed a few years ago due to budget cuts. Just a short walk across the river bridge there is the historic Watchman’s House with rooms that can be rented out but there are only three rooms so call for reservations. The next time you are in the Polk County area take time to tour Webb Brothers store. Hang out and lis-

I must admit I know almost nothing about musical instruments, speakers, amps, etc. But to me the place looked like it had a very well stocked inventory. It was spacious and just had a good feel or “vibe” to the place. I found numerous comments on Google regarding this store and they were all positive. One was “Best little music store in the South”. A Massachusetts man said he arrived at his family’s home to find someone had broken in and given the residence a good cleaning without stealing anything. Nate Roman, 44, said he returned to his Marlborough home last week with his 5-year-old son and the boy was the first to notice the back door was open. The homeowner said he was shocked to go inside and discover nothing had been taken, but instead the house had been cleaned. “You could smell the cleaning chemicals,” he told local

news. “I could tell something was wrong so I started looking around the house, and I found that my bathrooms had been cleaned.” Roman said every room had been cleaned — except for the kitchen. Roman said a clue left behind — toilet paper folded into origami roses — lead him to suspect a professional cleaning service had visited the wrong address. “It was really the roses that really got me thinking that some professional cleaner had accidentally stumbled into my house,” Roman said. “If I was going to judge the quality of a toilet paper rose I would call this high quality.”

A couple in Spain discovered a buzzing sound that was keeping them up at night was caused by 80,000 bees in their bedroom wall. The couple had been mystified by the low humming sound emitting from their wall for two years, until the sound became louder as temperatures in the area rose and they called a local beekeeper for help. “From about three months ago there was an unbearable noise and they didn’t know what to do,” beehive relocation expert Sergio Guerrero said. “Just imagine!” The experienced beekeeper was shocked that the couple managed to live with the noise

for so long. “With a hive that big it’s a wonder they didn’t have a constant buzz in their ear,” he said. “I can’t understand how they’ve been able to live with them for the past two years.” Nobody likes spiders, but which would you like less; dealing with a spider in your lap or losing your vehicle in a river? For this Georgia woman the choice was easy. The woman told a state trooper she was trying to back her Kia van down a boat launch on the Etowah

River to put her kayak in the water when a spider jumped in her lap. Naturally, she jumped out of the van. The van then rolled into the river, the Georgia State Patrol said. The agency sent a trooper to the boat launch, but by the time the trooper arrived, the van had long slipped out of sight. “She stated that it floated downstream a few feet,” a GSP spokesman said. “And within seconds, it was totally submerged.” The woman’s insurance company will foot the bill for a dive team to locate the van and tow it out of the river. Sometimes people die for a reason; Maybe they are a soldier, or maybe they overdose on drugs. Some people just get sick and die for no reason at all. Then there are the people who get run over while doing pushups, naked in the street. The unfortunate fitness enthusiast was 43-year-old James Earl Hunter of Oregon. Portland Police were called to a report of a man running naked in traffic at 4 a.m. As officers responded, a second report came in that the naked man was

doing push-ups in the street. Then, a third report that he’d been struck by a vehicle. Officers and emergency medical workers found the man, deceased, according to the Portland Police Bureau. The driver of the vehicle that struck the man remained at the scene and was cooperative. The driver was not impaired by alcohol or drugs, according to police. According to dailymail.co.uk, police fined a pedestrian 90 pounds for disorderly behavior after he tried to cover his face when he saw a controversial facial recognition camera on a street in London. Officers set up the camera on a van in Romford, East London, which then cross-checked photos of faces of passers-by against a database of wanted criminals. But one man was unimpressed about being filmed and covered his face with his hat and jacket, before being stopped by officers who took his picture anyway. After being pulled aside, the man told police: ‘If I want to cover me face, I’ll cover me face. Don’t push me

over when I’m walking down the street.’ The officer told him: ‘Calm yourself down or you’re going in handcuffs. It’s up to you.’ The cameras have been rolled out in a trial in parts of Britain, but their use has sparked a privacy debate. This comes just weeks after it was claimed the new technology incorrectly identified members of the public in 96 per cent of matches made between 2016 and 2018. A North Carolina brewery’s post promising a free keg party in exchange for the return of their stolen van went viral so fast the vehicle was located in 42 minutes. The Unknown Brewing Company in Charlotte said in a Facebook post that it would put on “a keg party” for anyone who found the van, which was stolen early Monday morning. “Please help us find it. Share with all of your friends. Who ever finds it, Brad will buy you a keg party!” the post said. “If you stole it and bring it back, you will also get a keg party (smile for the camera). Please DM us if you see it.” The brewery said the post was almost immediately shared hundreds of times, leading to more than 15 tips being called in about the van and a photo of the stolen vehicle’s current whereabouts being posted on Instagram within 42 minutes of the Facebook post. The brewery said it is aiming to reward the whole city for their help. “We wanted to thank all of you for helping us get our van back, by commenting, sharing and sending us tips via direct message,” the brewery said. “This week we will brew Van Theft Auto, when it releases, we will be selling it for 25 cents a pint (to cover taxes). That’s as close to a free keg party as we can do for you, Charlotte.” An Arizona police officer who pulled over an Oklahoma man driving on Interstate 10 got more than he bargained for when he spotted the man’s dead wife in the passenger seat, police say. Rodney Puckett, 70, told the officer that his wife, Linda Puckett, 74, had died at a Texas hotel earlier in their trip, Eloy police wrote in a release. He told police that he put

her body in the passenger seat to continue on to their destination, officers wrote. Eloy police arrested Rodney Puckett on suspicion of abandonment or concealment of a body, police wrote. Detectives are working with Texas authorities to investigate Linda Puckett’s death. The couple had been in the process of divorcing. Well, that explains it. Authorities in Georgia said a child opened a Lego box purchased from a consignment store and found $40,000 worth of meth instead of plastic bricks. The Bullock County Sheriff’s Office said three women told investigators they purchased the box, which was labeled as containing Lego toys, at a consignment shop in Charleston, S.C., and brought it back to Statesboro, where they gave it to a young child. Sheriff’s Investigator Jim Riggs said the child opened the box and discovered a large bag of methamphetamine, which police estimated to be about $40,000 worth of the drug. The sheriff’s office said they believe the meth had been hidden inside the box by drug distributors and mailed to an empty or abandoned address. Investigators said postal workers will sometimes not to deliver to addresses dubbed vacant, and the unclaimed packages will later be auctioned off. They said that was likely how the box ended up for sale at a consignment shop. An Idaho man broke his 100th Guinness World Record when he fit 100 lit candles in his mouth at one time. David Rush, whose previous records include the most corn kernels eaten using a toothpick in three minutes, crammed the candles into his mouth at the TEDxBoise event. A video of the attempt shows Rush, who uses his world record attempts to promote STEM education, placing the candles in his mouth before they are ignited by a member of his support team. Rush holds the candles in his mouth for a full 30 seconds. The previous record was 41 candles and was set in 2018 by Dinesh Shivnath Upadhyaya of Mumbai, India.

It’s All My Fault I had every intention of quitting my part time job last month. This job is with a company that I have been employed with for over 21 years. You could even go so far as to say that job is part of my identity. As an added bonus, I shared that goal of quitting my job with other people. Accountability babe! If you caught the past tense in the first sentence than you guessed correctly at the fact that I haven’t quit. YET! So you may be asking why did I not quit? The easy answer is, I sadly didn’t meet the goal I set out to achieve. Am I disappointed? A little. Do I view not achieving this goal as a failure? Absolutely not. If you don’t understand that answer find a copy of the April edition and read page 13. Needless to say that somewhere along the way, I was distracted— squirrel. Now if I am being honest, I chased lots of squirrels over the last few months (they were everywhere). Instead of focusing on the hard tasks that would get me closer to my goals, I turned at every detour there was. Darn squirrels. Why would I chase a silly squirrel? First, let me make it clear that I am not out literally chasing squirrels. This girl doesn’t run unless her life depends on it. Second, I have made it to a place on my journey where if I want to grow I must do some hard work. However, I have little discipline when it comes to focus. I am easily distracted if something is not fun. Now, I am not against working hard at all. I will be the hardest working person in the room. I can out work just about anyone. But, that isn’t the kind of hard work I am referring to. Physical work has no fear over me. Personal growth, on the other hand gets way too dirty, personal, hard, and can be very time consuming. As a little kid when we first moved to Chattanooga that’s all you heard around here, a lot of country music but it was of great quality. Riding around with my dad we listened to Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Don Williams, Waylon Willie and the boys. I especially liked Jerry Reed and the song “When You’re Hot You’re Hot”. Back in the golden days of Chattanooga a lot of restaurants had personal jukeboxes at each table. There was one particular one on South Broad Street that ©Dave Weinthal comes to mind. I remember going in with my family for myself off of country because song than anything Johnny lunch and dad would pull out no one in our neighborhood Cash would sing. And quite some coins and say, “Anything was in to country up on frankly once I discovered ELO, Styx and Elton John, game over. Unlike my older sister who was a Top 40 nut, my dad listened to everything. Any given day in the car with my dad he would put on his eighttrack, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Merle, the soundtrack to “Jesus Christ Superstar”, Motown and more. I guess my appreciation for multiple genres of music is thanks to my dad. I always though as I got older that country was less ENIGMA

country than it used to be. Of course most of the classics literally died off with only a few hanging around like Waylon and Dolly. In college my fraternity brothers and I knew Hank Jr.’s Greatest Hits by heart. No one had a choice. We would bring the cassette to our favorite watering hole (Scrappy’s) and demand Joe or Rand-ell play it and we played it over and over again. By the end of one night we led the entire bar of the packed hole in the wall in a sing along. After college my country days were over except a little Johnny and Willie as I was more into alternative rock and god ol’ rock and roll. I will confess however, I did go see Billy Ray Cyrus when that godawful song “Achy Breaky Heart” was big. I had a crush on this little girl and even though she had a boyfriend I was able to get a tack of tickets to take a whole group to see him perform in some tent… kind of the way I thought most country converts at the time was performed in. I knew the name Travis Tritt, heard it a bunch but didn’t know any of his songs. A pal of mine who worked for another magazine still to this day likes me to tell me the story that he got a call about doing a write up on this up and coming country artist by

Showtime came and a large crowd was on hand – a different crowd than what I’m used ©Dave Weinthal to. The crowd was mixed in age with many of the women because of alcohol but people in attendance actually dressed seemed to inter-mingle before up – I’m guessing hoping to get show time between bands and Travis’ attention, or the fact

If you ever go to a concert besides listening to the music, watch the members of the band, especially the singer it is easily to tell if they are just going through the motions. Tritt was on stage smiling the whole time, making faces – other than Larry The Cable Guy yelling, “git-r-done” telling everyone Travis is about to come out and to have a good time, visit the merch table but most important, “gitr-done!”. you know what I mean. There was a generous amount of camaraderie on stage and even in the crowd as many joined in on a number of songs from their seats, unlike some rock shows where there seems to be a disconnect between the artist and the band, often excused as creative angst. It is often said the art often imitates life, but for Destiny Sanchez her life is art. Sanchez is a multimedium artist. In her youth it began with drawings and eventually let to painting. Her works have been featured in numerous shows around Chattanooga and region. She is also a singer/songwriter, having released her first album, Spiritual Journey in early 2018. In August she plans to release her second, Lavender later in August. Not only is she heavily involved with the art, it’s actually literally in her blood. Sanchez comes from long line of artists including her grandmother, her mother, Lysabella Barrett, a published author and her father, Eric Scealf, leader of the seminal iconic punk rock/alternative outfit The Unsatisfied. Her husband is musical producer/engineer and lyricist at GPA Studio, Derrtie Sanchez, so you might think it’s actually art imitating life for the young artist instead of art imitating life for the young artist.

In the beginning I tried to keep it as minimalist as possible because I wasn’t very experienced, but my inspiration comes from a lot of cosmic, spacey kind of themes and I love doing portraits. I like doing musicians portraits, actually with bold colors. I really feel more comfortable now than in the beginning. I had done an original piece. I played the guitar and I sang for him – I had done a sing for him. He heard it and said he fell in love with it and he wanted me to get in the studio and actually record it. After that we started working on a lot of music together. It rolled out into me making an album. Without his push I don’t think I would be doing as much as I am. It’s really helped me as well to push myself out there. It’s really changed me in a lot of ways.

A lot of my work will be in my dreams and I will be compelled to paint them on canvas later or sketch them out or even write poetry. And them my music source of inspiration comes from my personal relationships and my inner struggles of trying to find where I need to be in life and some of these events that happened in my life that made it harder on me, but made me a stronger person. So, I get a lot of inspiration from that tough struggle. It’s made me a tough woman on the outside. I feel that comes out on both ends as well. It all intermingles into one thing. It just has to come out in different mediums. I express myself better through my mediums than actually speaking my words.

It sounds kind of crazy but it brings the attention to me.

My flashbacks came from staring at Billy Duffy’s companion the past 35 years, his white Gretsch guitar. When a salesman calls, I act friendly while he presents his spiel, after which I inform him that I can make no purchase decisions without consulting my wife. Melted Vinyl Lights We Chase Los Angeles’ Melted Vinyl has really stepped up their game over the last couple of years. The band has drawn raves playing some of the most high profile venues in the city and a series of singles released a few years ago had press deeming them the saviors or rock and roll. Indeed their sound on singles like “DogFight” and “Look to the Sky” their sound was reminiscent of late ‘60s and ‘70s radio (the good stuff). At times in their earlier work they wore their inspirations too closely on their sleeve, giving their music a slight retro sound (many of us welcome).
