BACKYARD CARE COTTAGE

The backyard care cottage is a 450 ft 2 unit intended to be a ‘granny flat’ for a family member that is in need of extra care. The most important part of the cottage was designing for people of age without stigmatizing. Three factors I felt were important were creating an area that was safe for the user, had ample storage since they would be downsizing, and had a significant work play area that would allow them to maintain their daily lifestyle.

CO-HOUSING VILLAGE

The Co-Housing Village was intended for baby boomers to live when they reach the point when they have health problems and are in need of additional care. The goal of the village is to preserve as much independence possible for the people living there while still providing them with the help needed. A few of the most important design components of the project were creating a space that had the same environment as a home, downsizing while still maintaining plenty of storage, and providing residents with a work play area where they would spend a significant amount of time.

PRIVATE STUDIO

This project was a wood shop in our client’s backyard in Old West Lawrence. Our studio designed, pre-fabricated, and installed the entire structure in a 4 month period. Everything is custom designed and built from the wall panels, roof, windows, interior shelving, and the sliding doors. My initial focus was designing and building the doors. Requirements: -200 ft 2 -Potential outdoor work space -Lots of storage space -Natural lighting -Pushed to the southwest corner of the lot -Blended with the existing house design -Minimal upkeep

MONACO CAR DEALERSHIP

The car dealership was just under 15,000 ft 2 and was heavily influenced by the site context in Monaco, France. The primary function was to showcase the high end cars in an auxiliary showroom as well as in outside displays.
