Member of the Month (January): Lindsey Pagcalluagan Lindsey Pagcalluagan is a new member from this year who has proven to be one of our finest members throughout the school year. She has accumulated 37 hours, participated in at least 1 service project per month, has raised a large amount of money through fundraisers, and has proven to be overall excited for Key Club. We are happy to call Lindsey our member of the month and a part of our club!

Volunteers cheered on every hero from young to not so young in the Superhero Run. All funds raised be the event went to the Center For Human Services Shelters. It allowed volunteers to be apart of their community more and to help raise awareness for a good cause.

Cards for the Elderly Valentine’s Day is a day of love, and Enochs Key Club made sure to spread the love to the elderly. At our meeting on February 14th, we let our creative side run free and made Valentines for these lovely folks. Our Key Clubbers were thrilled to see the joy on their faces. These Key Clubbers also took the time to teach some of the wonderful residents of Bethel Retirement Community how to use computers and tablets. Many Key Clubbers found it quite refreshing and enjoyable to be able to be of service to a demographic somewhat different from their own, and it was a very rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Modesto Kiwanis Crab Feed

With tray ready volunteers served up the crabs to our fellow Kiwanians. It allowed for us to give back to the Kiwanis organization after all the help they have given us.They completely support us through our hard worker and help out as much as they can. So thank you to our Kiwanis Group in Modesto without you there is no Key Club.

8

Poetry Festival Volunteers appreciated the fine english art of poetry. Participants wrote poems and competed with other poets from all over Modesto. Volunteers showed respect and did a good job of representing the key club behavior at this event.

Tutoring

Enochs High School offers a peer tutoring program in which fellow student may sign up on any day, Monday through Friday from 2:15 to 3:15. Students are allowed to tutor on a variety of subjects, although most peer tutors are for math. Many of our lovely key clubbers at Enochs have spent time after school to help out their fellow Eagles, and hopefully many more in the future. Ke(y)ep up the good work!

Bike Camp Spring break is the perfect time for going outside and enjoy the fresh air. What better way to spend break than planting the seeds of service? From March 20th to 24th, the Society for Disabilities is holding their Bike Camp, where volunteers help out by teaching kids how to ride bicycles. This event takes place every weekday of Spring Break, from 8am to 12pm at Ustach Middle School. However, on March 20th, volunteers should arrive at 7am to receive training and turn in the waiver available on the website. Let’s put our pedal to the medal, shall we?

Modesto Marathon Every year, Modesto holds a marathon where residents from all walks of life can train and sign up to run/walk a full marathon, half marathon, relay, or 5k. This year’s marathon will span across the days of March 18th and 19th. On the 18th, our Key Clubbers will be helping prepare of the race many Modesto residents have been training for months to complete. On the day of the race, March 19th, will have their hands full passing out Tshirts and merchandise, and later in the day will keep on keeping on while they manage barricades, provide water and cheer on runners. Sounds RUN-derful! (sorry i like puns)

Enochs Track/Swim Meets

Enochs Key Club is glad to lend a hand to our beloved sports teams when they need us at matches, games or meets. Spring is track and swim season, while our athletes are giving it their all in their events and in the pool, we will be helping out wherever they need us. There are four home track meets and the following dates: March 29th, April 12th, and April 19th from 3 to 7pm. Here we’ll support our fellow students by helping both setup and break down, as well as helping time races. We’re very proud to serve and support our school, and the talented sports teams that represent us. Go Eagles!

Love Modesto

Love Modesto is a giant service project held by the city of Modesto every year to get citizens together and help both the city and its citizens. Most of the projects take place on April 8th, but a few are on the 9th, and each project has a varying time and place. Our club will be volunteering at 4 projects on the 8th and 2 on the 9th. The projects on the 8th are set up, greeting people, sidewalk chalk art, and thank you for helping me bloom. The projects on April 9th are the Briggsmore Road Cleanup and the Virginia Trail Cleanup. The last day to sign up for these events are March 29th. To learn more about each event and to sign up click on the links, and make sure to tell your president which event you signed up for!

Enochs Fun With Science At Enochs’ Fun with Science night, students and their families are encouraged to go to various stations in which they get to learn all about the wonders of science! Here, Key Clubbers helped work many of the stations available and help out with the learning. Key Clubber Vanessa Crook particularly enjoyed it, saying, “My experience at the Fun with Science Night was great. For once I got to experience being the teacher instead of the student. I loved teaching science to the children and watching their faces light up when they did the experiments.”

19

Dog Toys Key clubbers will bring old unused T-shirts to a future meeting, where they’ll be cut up and braided into dog toys. The toys will then be donated to local animal shelters for some very lucky furry friends to play with! We’re happy to be bringing some joy to man’s best friend!

Kiwanis Takeover

A Kiwanis Takeover is an event in which members from our club attend our Kiwanis Sponsor's (North Modesto Kiwanis) meeting and run it instead of the actual Kiwanis members. During this meeting, there will be a set of rules that participants must obey because if they don't they will have to spend a certain amount of money according to the rule they broke (the maximum an individual can pay is $10). The person who ends up spending the least money at this event will be awarded a gift basket, and all the money will go towards Eliminate. The meeting will be on March 23rd at the Clarion

Candy Sale for Santa Cruz From April 17th to 28th, our club will either be having a candy sale for members to raise money for our Santa Cruz Trip. Members will get a 40% profit for each candy bar they sell for a $1, and all of the money raised will be used to reduce the cost of transportation for members. Also, any candy lost by members will need to be reimbursed by said members so make sure not to lose them!

24

Santa Cruz Trip Our club hopes on having an end of the year trip to Santa Cruz to have a small beach cleanup and then afterwards spend the rest of our time on the boardwalk! What we plan is to first have a beach cleanup for about an hour, and then afterwards members are allowed to do whatever they please for the rest of the time! However, to have this trip our club must be very active or else we will not be allowed to go, so make sure to participate in service events and fundraisers to ensure that we are active enough of a club so they school can permit us to go! Also, we hope for our club to pay for the transportation but to do that we will have to raise a lot of money for our club so make sure to do that as well (on the contrary tickets for the boardwalk must be paid by members themselves). To go on this trip you must have met an hour requirement of 20 service hours.

25

District Convention (DCON) DCON is seen as one of the most fun Key Club trips you can go to in the entire year! DCON is a giant convention where members from all 700+ clubs in the CNH District gather together to show off their spirit, learn new things about Key Club, make new friends, and watch as all of the division and higher officers retire! During this trip you get to stay at a hotel, go to a dance, served food, go to many educational seminars, have spirit battles, and go to general sessions where all of the participants get together in one place! DCON is on April 7th to 9th this year at Anaheim, and it will most likely cost $300 to $500. However, don't let this price intimidate you since there are multiple ways to raise money for it, such as fundraising, Kiwanis Sponsors, and even club sponsors! Also, we might be going to Disneyland this year since the event is in Anaheim, and there's no hour requirement for this event
