Chalkida is a modern cultural center and it lodges both the Archeological and Folkloric Museum, also the Library, the Art Workshop, the Theater, many athletic facilities, the Yacht Club and many more. The tides at the Euripus sound are a unique phenomenon and are one of the reasons that make Chalkida so popular around the World. The tide takes place every six hours and changes the direction of the watercourse. It is said that this phenomenon has causes, except from the narrowness of the sound and the volume of the waters, but also in the attraction of the Moon and the Sun. Many and diverse are the interests and the sights at this part of Evia. Stiff scenery covered by grey stone, low vegetation with bushes but with many citrus trees, wild beautiful landscapes and windless beaches is the characteristics of the region. Access to Southern Evia is easy coming from either South or Central Greece. There are three coastal lines: Rafina Marmari, Agia Marina-N.Styra and Almiropotamos.
