HOLLANDIA

INTRODUCTION The four elements air, fire, earth and water symbolize the work of Hollandia, an innovative and international company that has been active in steel and steel construction since 1928. Water symbolizes hydraulic works such as sluices and flood control structures. Earth represents buildings and air typifies bridges and special constructions. The element of fire symbolizes the medium of warmth in our forge. Hollandia designs, produces and assembles small and large projects for both Dutch and international clients. These include many famous projects, such as the Maeslantkering, the flood control structure in the Nieuwe Waterweg channel by Hoek van Holland, the Swiss Reinsurance Building in London, the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn suspension-railway in Wuppertal, steel constructions for buildings such as the headquarters of the ING Bank in Amsterdam, and special constructions, such as the British Airways London Eye Ferris wheel in London. Headquarters ING Bank, Amsterdam In addition, in its forge Hollandia produces items such as high-grade connecting materials which are used worldwide in the offshore industry, infrastructure, and special constructions as well as in the automobile and defense industries. Due to the complexity of most projects, project management and quality control play an increasingly important role in our activities. This enables us to take over full responsibility for the project from our clients, and combined with our craftsmanship it allows us to deliver an optimal product while guaranteeing its quality.

HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT Lubbers’ Construction Workshop and Machine Factory “Hollandia” Ltd. was founded in 1928 and is now better known as Hollandia located in Krimpen aan den IJssel near Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Started as a pressing shop for bolts, Hollandia at that time was one of the first companies in the Netherlands to deliver the required connect- Citigroup Tower (DS 5), Londen ing materials to replace rivets. After World War II the complete manufacture of bridges and steel constructions became increasingly important. Gradually Hollandia expanded into the current company that operates on both a national and an international scale. Hollandia is now one of the leading companies in the area of the engineering, manufacture and assembly of bridges, sluices, movable bridge parts and steel constructions. Its long experience enables Hollandia to complete very complex and innovative projects and products. From the very first idea through to the actual completion of the technical solutions! Hollandia belongs to the S3C Holding Group.

ORGANIZATION AND WORKING METHODS Hollandia is characterized by a flat organizational structure. Immediately below the executive leadership, a dynamic management team is responsible for the appropriate direction and the quality level of all projects. Once our sales department has established the first contacts, each project is guided by one of our project leaders from the initial requisition all the way through to delivery. This guarantees for the client short lines of communication and solid project knowledge. Our design department can also be involved as needed from the very start of a project to combine the knowledge, creativity and experience of previous projects in collaboration with the client to arrive at the optimal product.

DESIGN AND ENGINEERING For design studies Hollandia employs its own design team that, even for larger projects, can handle a design & construct contract independently or in collaboration with engineering firms. In this regard our expertise, especially in the area of mechanical engineering and movable bridge parts, is important. For a design & construct contract, this expertise often creates surprising solutions, such as with the completed floating sector doors of the Maeslantkering flood control structure in the Nieuwe Waterweg channel by Hoek van Holland. Hollandia is experienced in following a program of requirements to develop a design that is not only structurally well-done, but also attractive in terms of price. The design process takes the total life cycle of a construction into consideration, i.e. in regards to manufacture, assembly and maintenance. Hollandia is also able to handle the design and detail engineering for third parties.

AUTOCAD The design department uses tools such as Scia-W&B software for calculations. In addition, the drawing office uses Autocad to produce a complete package of design and workshop drawings.

PRODUCTION & MANUFACTURE For the production of mostly large, but also smaller objects Hollandia has at its disposal excellent professionals and a machine park that can handle the complete range of machining operations. Even for large constructions all mechanical actions and machining operations can be executed from a single measuring point due to the scale of the halls and machines. The complex includes departments such as construction, machine processing and a fitting shop. Blasting and surface protection occurs in a modern hall that is fully climate-controlled and one of the largest in this field in Europe, which allows the surface protection of fully assembled constructions.

MANUFACTURE AND ASSEMBLY Manufacture and construction requires skilled craftsmanship. The welders at Hollandia are certified specialists with typically many years of experience. They constantly receive supplemental training so they can fully master even the newest techniques. Our inhouse education center facilitates the entry process and training of new employees.

7

MACHINE PROCESSING All machining operations such as turning, milling, boring and planing are completed in-house. Hollandia also produces movable parts, the enormous rotating parts for a movable bridge or flood control structure, all within established tolerance values and in compliance with high quality standards. For example, after a bridge has been fully assembled and welded, the connecting parts of the rotation points are machine processed with mobile boring equipment so that very narrow tolerance values can be achieved. Whenever possible, the manufactured movable bridge parts are checked for compliance with design requirements and tested extensively prior to encasing and prior to transport. This prevents surprises at the building site when the product is made operational. Š EC/03

WELDING ROBOT Whenever possible, welding is performed in a fully automated fashion with our welding robot. Our robot welds complex parts with continuous quality in a short timeframe, which in larger quantities is also relevant in terms of price.

MODERN SURFACE PROTECTION DEPARTMENT Our modern surface protection department uses a large fully climate-controlled hall, in which despite the dimensions of 60 x 30 x 10 meters, humidity and temperature can constantly be held at the correct level, which allows the blasting and the required paint system to meet very stringent standards. This enables Hollandia to apply the surface protection for a work in its entirety or in very large components, which reduces the number of assembly seams and benefits the life cycle of the surface protection.

RENOVATION Hollandia is also well-equipped to handle the renovation of the above-mentioned steel structures. A typical example is the replacement of segments of the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn suspension-railway, where Hollandia was still able to provide the old-fashioned rivet connections.

TRANSPORT & ASSEMBLY Hollandia knows how to transport and to assemble. This is already taken into consideration at the design phase and during further engineering processes.

Oranjesluis, Amsterdam

Our location and the presence of our own platform with roll-on/roll-off facilities in the river the Nieuwe Maas often allow heavy and sizeable structures to be transported in their entirety to the building site. This reduces the labor at the building site and maintains the quality at an optimal level. Transport of constructions to the open sea is nearly unobstructed via the passage opening of the Van Brienenoord Bridge - whose bascule part is incidentally also a Hollandia product – that allows an unlimited height and a maximum width of 50 meters.

DETAILED TRANSPORT AND ASSEMBLY PLANS

THE FORGE The forge specializes in the production of a diverse range of fasteners through hot-forging.Through an abutting mechanical processing operation in a wellequipped metal removal department, the forge produces products that comply with international standards as well as client-specific products in every desired quality of material. These products are applied in settings such as onshore/offshore, the construction of machines, equipment and boilers, but also in the agricultural equipment and automobile industries, as well as infrastructural projects, structural engineering and the defense industry. In addition, the forge produces semi-finished products and forgings that are suitable for further processing by the client. Hollandia offers a forging product that is frequently machine-processed and of high-grade quality.

11

QUALITY, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT Concern for quality, safety and the environment is an important reference point within the organization of Hollandia. The quality of the product and the applied processes is closely guarded and supported through clear process procedures that have been established and implemented in compliance with our quality certification through NEN-ISO 9001: 2000. As needed for individual projects, extensive quality and inspection plans are established to safeguard the specific contract requirements. Safety and environmental issues are a high priority; through training and instruction our employees are continuously kept well-informed of developments in these fields.
