FROM THE CHAIRMAN
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
RECIPIENT STORIES
FROM THE CHAIRMAN As a not-for-profit, community focussed company; ETC has for more than 23 years given back to the communities in which it operates its training, employment and business advisory services. In September 2012, ETC’s Board of Directors was proud to launch the ETC Community Support Fund as a new vehicle for our philanthropy and sharing our success. The new fund was widely promoted across the East Coast of Australia between Sydney and the Gold Coast and we were thrilled to receive close to 200 applications during the 2012/13 financial year. It was our pleasure to commit over $210,000 to 35 extremely worthwhile organisations. We were heartened to hear stories from the successful recipients about the positive difference the funding will make in terms of enabling them to deliver their programs and initiatives – the majority of which are geared towards improving the lives of people in our communities. This newsletter provides a snapshot of the organisations that were supported through the ETC Community Support Fund over the past 12 months. Finally, I would like to congratulate and acknowledge the volunteers and staff of the many organisations we have supported during the year and thank them for their work in enhancing the social and economic development of local communities.

Orara Valley Fair Project: Community Modular Stage - $14,250 A new modular stage made its debut at the 2013 Orara Valley Fair thanks to a $14,250 grant from the ETC Community Support Fund. Orara Valley Fair Assistant Secretary Rob Kingsford-Smith said sourcing a stage which was easy to erect, sturdy in use, compliant and large enough to be useful had been an ongoing problem for Fair organisers. “Having our own stage rather than having to pay rental on a stage is a real plus for us and now we also have the opportunity to hire it out to other local community organisations at low cost,” Mr Kingsford-Smith said. The Orara Valley Fair has been a popular event on the Coffs Coast for more than 30 years.

Lifeline North Coast General Manager Allister Donald said the acquisition of the latest computer technology was an essential step towards becoming more profitable and therefore better positioned to provide valuable counselling services to those most in need on the North Coast. Mr Donald said an added benefit of the IT upgrade was the up-skilling of Lifeline volunteers. “Volunteers are an integral part of our operations. We desperately need volunteers whether it’s on the phones or in the shops and we’re hoping that more volunteers will be attracted to work at Lifeline if we offer them computer training,” Mr Donald said.
