Scrapers or email extractors are common with sending cold emails because they provide the sender the email addresses to literally thousands of unsuspecting readers all across the world. The acquisition of email addresses is highly sophisticated and can cost upward of $150. Other email extractors require a monthly subscription. Email addresses are scraped from social media sites and all over the web by search query.

Do you see the power of this technology? Entrepreneur E desires more clients to his website design business. He enters a search query into the email scraper of “Toledo small businesses”. The search would yield email addresses and business owner names for endless leads. The entrepreneur could then send a cold email to that list and pitch his services.
The cold email is standing trial as it is akin to the cold call. The majority of Americans will admit to abhorring cold calls in the form of telemarketers selling something. What about the cold email?
Spam blockers are a powerful attribute to any emailing software. Spam disablers block unsubscribed emails or junk emails. Amazingly, we have all encountered an email that was targeted, tailored, and very relevant, that we did not request. That, my friend, is cold emailing at its best! Cold emailing happens to be a business model used by the entrepreneur, universities, and Fortune 500 companies alike! Subsequently, there are a myriad of resources available to make the endeavor of landing a lead through a cold email feasible. Let’s take a look at software used in the practice of cold emailing. SOFTWARE USED WITH COLD EMAILS
A second means of having a successful cold email campaign is through the use of a mass emailer. The traditional means of sending email campaigns is the autoresponder and email marketing software. However, companies like Get Response, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, AWeber, to name a few, generally do not encourage the sending of bulk messages to individuals who have not opted in.
Remember, this is a cold email. The recipient did not ask to receive additional information or any information at all! If a user imported a list of cold email prospects to email marketing software in order to use the autoresponder to send messages, it may work. However, the user runs the risk of being unethical by indicating that the list agreed to be marketed to.
This problem is solved through the use of bulk mailers like the Gmail extension GMass. This emailing tool can be used in conjunction with a paid subscription to Gmail, sending up to 10,000 messages a day. Zoho, Send Blaster, Atomic Park Bulk Email Sender, are just a few known bulk emailing services.

Essentially, the use of email extraction builds a list that can be marketed to. The endeavor of the sender is to warm the cold prospects through smart copywriting and irresistible offers in order to establish credibility and a lasting relationship.
Is Cold Email Marketing Black Hat? Mathematically speaking, sending large quantities of information to a list of individuals who have some general interest in your service or product could result in sales conversions. The ability of mass emailing technology to surpass spam blockers and get the message before the eyes of an email recipient, whose email address was obtained from an email scraper, is priceless and does work! Yet, is the practice illegal?
According to CAN-SPAM Act, there are strict policies in place as it relates to acquiring emailing addresses and then sending unsolicited emails. Violators could be forced to pay up to $41,484 per the Federal Trade Commission. Below are the requirements that apply to the act of cold emailing:
1. Don’t use false or misleading header information. 2. Don’t use deceptive subject lines. 3. Identify the message as an ad. 4. Tell recipients where you’re located. 5. Tell recipients how to opt out of receiving future email from you. 6. Honor opt-out requests promptly. 7. Monitor what others are doing on your behalf.

So you see, the cold email is intricate and should be carefully considered. Spamming is not ethical and comes with a hefty penalty. Cold emailing, if done correctly, can make the entrepreneur money and gain exposure and attraction to one’s business.
My personal experience with cold emailing, as an online entrepreneur, resulted in a 20% open rate of my sent mails. I did get a few to opt in to a free product I was marketing, but no sales conversions as of yet. Cold emailing works, but is a complicated art if you want to warm the cold leads to become buying customers.
If you choose to continue the practice of cold emailing or begin the practice, adhere to the strict guidelines set in place by the government and work on your copywriting skills.
Once your email is opened, you have to grab the buyer’s attention and win them over with credible content, value offered, and ultimately trust.
