2701 Shattuck Avenue New Student Living Spaces
Nestled on the corner of Derby Street and Berkeley’s iconic Shattuck Avenue will sit 2701 Stattuck, the lively housing complex that re-imagines shared living spaces for the modern student. Ground level hosts a co-working mezzanine directly above a large restaurant space, open to residents and the public. Located near UC Berkeley, the nation’s most prestigious public universtity, 2701 Shattuck is a stunning, modern complex who’s design is based around cultivating social encounters between the students who call it home and the residents of Berkeley. A central garden penetrates the interiors of this soon-to-be Berkeley icon where students can enjoy a beautiful floral and native plant habitat seamlessly integrated with semi-private and public gathering spaces, fostering an understanding of human and plant interdependence, crucial to the health of students living in a demanding environment. Complete with green roof gardens, this space will not only attract people but also native wildlife to gather and socialize.
Drawing sets, digital models and renderings created in Revit and finished in Photoshop under strict instruction by Architect Todd Jersey. Physical model personally and meticulously crafted in autocad, laser cut and assembled by hand. Noticeable detail in horizontal shading devices and staircase (shown on following page). Project unrealized due to innability to progress through the City of Berkeley’s Neighborhood Design Review and Zoning Adjustment Board.

Collaborative Housing Co-Housing Co-Lab: Central Station Live/Work Collaborative Housing
West, Street View
Central Station is located within two blocks of El Cerrito’s Central BART Station as proximity to local public transportation is critical to the Collaborative Housing Model. Extensive “walkability studies” are conducted to locate land appropriate to the standards laid out by this model to decide what supporting business would thrive in such a mixed-use development. The attention to socio-economic detail, catered to each specific project and its surrounding environment, are what make the Collaborative Housing design process a truly useful community space. This model is focused on maximizing usability of space in respect to its environment for the purpose of truly benefitting the users of the space, residents and the visiting public. Residents of this social, live-work community will enjoy a highly walkable neighborhood and feel free to travel without the price of a personally owned car. The restaurant entry, located on the west end of the site, allows for seating on the above mezzanine level where maker spaces are available to residents and for rent to members of the local community to workand sell their products to the public.

Cybertran’s Ultra Light Rail Transit Vehicles are the future of public transit for Richmond, connecting BART to the inner city. Utilizing offline tracks for speedy boarding without interrupting main-line traffic is a huge step toward a efficient public transportation, decongesting freeway traffic while giving countless residents access to affordable transportation. Extensive solar panels above-track provide electricity to the transit-oriented development located at each station. Cutting and 23rd in Richmond serves low-income neighborhoods, providing the community with a public market and over 300,000 square feet of commercial space and affordable housing and dozens of well-paid jobs.

Cutting Avenue and 23rd Street Station will be a highdensity, affordable housing project in what was once a critically neglected area of Richmond, CA. The local economy will see a huge uptick in productivity thanks to the job training corps located in the East Tower, the collaborative arts and coworking spaces in the South and thousands of square feet of commercial spaces located in the western building.

Cybertran made their public debut at the 2014 Clean Tech Open Accelerator where sustainability-oriented projects find funding from investors. Cybertran has been in the proccess of securing funding with a Chinese organization. Construction can begin once their test track is built and the technology is proven on a large scale. Circulation connects North and South ends of this sprawling site for a fluid shopping experience; providing a continuous walkway, beginning and ending in beautiful gardens and onto the many roof gardens on this large site with thousands of square feet of commercial space. Restaurants, cafes and public markets are located along circulation so that they are encountered along one’s journey through the site. A huge amount of usable square footage on roofs allows for living roofs, creating thriving gathering spaces for socializing which attracts native species of wildlife, a truly unique and modern shopping experience.
