What would the world be like without fashion bloggers, you can already feel what it's like, they add colour and fun to your feed. You get to enjoy how they put outfits together and it feels like magic. It is amazing and there are quite a host of them. We will always bring you these fashionistas in each edition. They practically know how to own these looks which has to do with talent and dedication, because beleive me, its not every body that can do it. It is good to look the part,. as the saying goes "Dress like a million box and you will be adressed as such" or some other saying " No matter how you feel, GET UP, DRESS UP, SHOW UP and never give up. That sums it up.. How you look has a role to play in how you are perceived. Good style has nothing to do with how much you have in your pocket. It has to do with how you put together what you have! So Go Shopping in your Wardrope:():!

HOW DO YOU MANAGE TIME TO RUN YOUR BLOG EFFICIENTLY?

I struggled in the beginning and at some point I neglected my original blog because I had no proper plan and goals for what exactly I was trying to achieve. Plus I felt like no one bothered to read what I was putting out. It was demoralizing but with time, I decided to re-brand (Last year) and take it a bit more serious. With a plan in mind I am more organized this time around I schedule my posts ahead so that I maintain consistency. Planning my schedules is a skill that I keep working on because there are many factors that contribute to this. Being in a cold country with unpredictable weather doesn’t make it any easy for me but I try to make it work and make the most of the sporadic spells of sunshine or rain free days.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT IN YOUR BLOGGING JOURNEY SO FAR?

Generating leads to my blog is the greatest challenge to date. I realized that it’s important to put in that extra effort to distribute your content using social media and that’s one way of generating leads but let me be honest the struggle is real with the blogging industry being saturated, it isn’t easy but it’s definitely feasible.

STEPHANIE MASUWA @stephylately

Her blog is a perfect mix of fun and fashion and she keeps it real, real fashion and fun style. She speaks about her style and how she manages to put it together despite her tight schedule.

HAVE YOU MET ANYONE INTERESTING IN YOUR BLOGGING JOURNEY? IF SO TELL US ABOUT THE ENCOUNTER.

I wouldn’t necessarily say I have met any famous people in my blogging journey yet but its allowed me to connect with other Zambian fashion bloggers both in Diaspora and in Zambia such that when I visited last year I got to meet up with some of the top bloggers over there. I will be heading to London fashion week so hopefully I get to meet some cool people.

CAN WE MEET YOU?

I am Stephanie, a blogger and content creator at Stephylately. A platform I set up four years ago to share my take on style with my readers. Besides blogging I am a certified geek, studying business economics and currently on a work placement, working as a business analyst.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR BLOGGING STYLE?

I would say practical chic street style. Emphasis on practical because I tend to pick statement pieces that I would rock on a normal day but at the same time it needs to be trendy.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST GET INTO BLOGGING AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU? In 201 3, I took a gap from academics due to personal circumstances. Having plenty of free time I found myself constantly on YouTube and discovered some stylish bloggers out there and one day I had a light bulb moment and told myself that if they could make it, I could too plus it would keep me occupied.

ENVOGUE MAGAZINE4

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? IS THERE SOMEONE WHO IS A FASHION INSPIRATION TO YOU? I get my inspiration from pinterest and fashion magazines. My style icon is Olivia Palermo. Her style is impeccable and polished. She is forever looking good.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE GREATEST SATISFACTION OF BEING A FASHION BLOGGER?

For me, interaction with people is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger. I absolutely love it when my readers respond to my posts and get inspired by my work. This is what motivates me to become even better at what I do. I have been to a couple of blogger events but each time I went I realized that most people were in groups and I went alone so I did kind of feel left out but am not saying it’s always like that for everyone. That’s just my personal experience.

COULD YOU GIVE SOME ADVICE TO NEWBIE FASHION BLOGGERS

Blogging is fun but don’t get too consumed with numbers, getting paid and being famous. Success doesn’t come overnight. You have to obviously put in the work for some time before you start enjoying the fruits of your labour. Another thing I would say is “Be true to yourself and let your passion shine through your work”. One mistake that I made was comparing my success with others. Comparison will lead you to misery so just focus on making your blog better for yourself and your readers. You can reach Stephanie on social media through the links below! We share some of her inspiartional quotes with you

WHEN DID YOU FIRST GET INTO BLOGGING AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU? I started making websites online when I was around 1 0 years old. I started out making websites called ‘doll websites’ (shout out to anyone who knows what that is!) Eventually I switched to having a blog where I also provided designs for people and their websites. When I started, there weren’t many bloggers about and over the years I’ve watched the industry has blown up to be what it is now! I also didn’t take it seriously or even put my absolute all into it for quite some time.

HOW DO YOU MANAGE TIME TO RUN YOUR BLOG EFFICIENTLY? Organization is key! I work very long hours in my job so if I want to blog, I have no choice but to be efficient. So I plan all my posts (such that I already know literally weeks in advance what I’m going to be writing about). I write my posts for the week over the weekends, and schedule them such that I upload Mondays and Thursdays after work. Also, I use an excel file I created to track what I’m going to post and when, how much I’ve posted and what posts are doing particularly well (planning to offer this tool out to readers also soon!)

KEMI AKINBOYEWA @_skylish

CAN WE MEET YOU?

My name is Kemi Akinboyewa and I’m a full-time Investment Banking analyst who blogs part time on Skylish ! I blog about all things lifestyle and fashion with a little bit of beauty on the side. I love to motivate and empower women, especially young women, as I feel that’s what I needed growing up! This had led to me writing up tons of advice posts about relationships, careers, school and entrepreneurship, which has recently become much more of a focal point on my blog in recent months.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR BLOGGING STYLE?

I would say my blog is like an open book. I share a lot about my life and talk about a lot of the experiences I’ve had in the past to give an opinion on several topics. Not to necessarily say I divulge every single last detail of my life, but as a blog reader you’d be pretty clued up about what I’m up to in my life. However, I think this recent rawness in my posts and openness in my voice has actually helped my blog and brought in a lot more returning readers.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT IN YOUR BLOGGING JOURNRY SO FAR?

I think what makes blogging the hardest is just how mentally taxing it can be. Sometimes I honestly feel so discouraged about my blog and just ask myself “what am I even doing here?!” It happened yesterday and a kind comment from a reader is what reminded me that the simple answer is that I really just love doing what I do! They say ‘comparison is the thief of joy’, which is the absolute truth, and I always remind myself just to focus on what I’m doing and ride out my own personal journey.

HAVE YOU MET ANYONE INTERESTING IN YOUR BLOGGING SO FAR? TELL US ABOUT IT

I think I’ve encountered too many amazing people along the way to name just one. This includes several fabulous bloggers at different events, my photographer (Marianna Paul mbfoart.co.uk) who is just so talented and even people on my blog!

ENVOGUE MAGAZINE 6

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE AND WHO IS YOUR FASHION INSPIRATION? I have tons of people I look to for fashion inspiration and it changes every day. Some people I think are killing it with their style include Fisayo Longe, Patricia Bright, Kylie Jenner and Sarah Ashcroft!

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE GREATEST SATISFACTION OF BEING A FASHION BLOGGER?

I think creating good content is what I see as being the greatest satisfaction. Being able to look back on and read what I’ve created, and see the response posts and photos have received. It always makes me feel good about what I’m doing. The events, the opportunities and the gifting is also of course a bonus which I also love and appreciate. But those things are definitely not the only purpose behind my blogging.

COULD YOU GIVE SOME ADVISE TO NEWBIE FASHION BLOGGERS

My first tip is to strive for good quality! Quality over quantity, every time. When I first started out as a blogger the quality of my posts was appalling, I shot grainy photos which I uploaded from my webcam, and seemed more focused on churning out lots of content vs. creating some amazing content. Quality is what will make your blog grow – especially given how saturated the industry is right now! Also, I would advise new bloggers to be true to themselves. You don’t need to accept every opportunity that comes your way, you don’t need to write a certain type of blog post just because every other blogger is, be unique and be real with yourself and that is how you will find yourself more satisfied in the content you create.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FASHION MODEL IN NIGERIA Ruth, who stands at just under 6ft, is ethereal, with a

figure that was crafted for the runway. She is striking, and so obviously perfect for modelling that it seems predestined that she would end up in Lagos, pipped as a rising star with an international future. “Coming to Lagos was my only hope,” she says. The scout took her details and a few days later messaged her over Facebook, telling her about two modelling competitions that she might want to enter. The first was Pearl Look, and the second was Elite Model Look, the international scouting competition that discovered Cindy Crawford, Gisele Bündchen and Lara Stone, and launched the careers of Nigeria’s three We head to Lagos to spend time with models and biggest international models, Victor Ndigwe, Mayowa Nicholas, and Davidson Obennobo – who won the agencies, to see how the country’s fashion identity is entering a bold, exciting new era. “I’m competition worldwide in 201 6. In Nigeria, Elite Model not from a worldly background,” says Ruth. When Look is exclusively run by Beth Models, Lagos’ oldest and she first started modelling there was a lot she most established modelling agency. “I was a model in the UK,” says Elizabeth Elohor, the founder of the eponymous didn’t know – “I’d never heard of Naomi agency. “When I came back to Nigeria in 2001 I thought I Campbell, I didn’t know who Kendall or Gigi Hadid were. My booker sent me home and made might keep up modelling. I’d won Miss Nigeria UK, a me google people like Tyra Banks,” she says, beauty pageant, and a lot of people would say to me in Lagos that I should definitely model, but I couldn’t find any laughing. She learned fast – “I used to like Kendall’s walk, but I’m not that into it anymore. I proper agencies. In the end, in 2004 I finally decided that I love Gigi’s walk. It is so powerful. I want to walk would start my own.” In the 1 3 years since she made that decision, Elohor has like that one day.” After placing second in Nigeria’s Elite Model Look competition, Ruth has built what is comfortably Africa’s top agency, starting the fast become one of the top models in Nigeria. careers of models who have fronted international campaigns for the likes of H&M, Missoni, Calvin Klein and She has done campaigns for leading African brand Jewel By Lisa and Maybelline, walked for Versace Jeans, and who have walked in a dizzying array of shows, including Hermès, Zegna, Givenchy, almost every designer showing during Lagos DSquared2, Sandro, Moschino, Loewe, Balmain, and Fashion and Design week, and opened and Ferragamo. It isn’t by chance that three successful black closed a number of major shows. She is now models have come from a single powerhouse agency prepping to go global, and has garnered significant interest from international agencies. based out of Lagos. While the mysterious alchemy that makes or breaks models is hard to divine, there are three Ruth almost missed her chance to get into modelling. When Ruth saw the modelling scout, elements that have fused here to make Beth such a competitive agency. The first is that Beth was the earliest she nearly sent her away. But there was professional modelling agency in Nigeria. This allowed the something different about her. In Warri, Delta State, where Ruth grew up, people didn’t dress agency to build up its reputation, not just in Lagos, but the way she did. Ruth sensed that the scout was globally. It also enabled them to set up an efficient scouting operation throughout the country. Elohor tells me a big name. Someone from another city. Still, Ruth had been asked to model so many times, by that the other day she was driving in Lekki, a modern city so many of the wrong people, that by now she to the East of Lagos, when she saw a girl she thought had was exhausted and convinced that anyone who real potential. “I slammed on the brakes, pulled over, and I talked to her about modelling was to be avoided. chased her, shouting “no no wait wait!” I said I’m a model agent – I didn’t say I own the agency – and got her to give When the scout spotted her at the bank, and walked over and asked for her contact details, me her number. When I said come to the office tomorrow I Ruth’s first thought was, “Oh my god – they have found out she already had an appointment! So clearly I have a good team out there,” she says, flicking her hair come again.” slightly. 12

Second, Nigeria is a country of 1 91 million people, it’s on track to be the fourth largest country on Earth. The average age, according to Statista, is 1 8. As such, it seems almost inevitable that if you were looking for the next crop of internationally successful black models that they would be Nigerian. However, this demographic dividend would be irrelevant if it wasn’t for the fact that the Nigerian fashion industry has made huge strides in recent years, such that there is enough domestic demand to actually sustain a fully professionalised modelling industry. Young, forward-thinking Nigerian brands are doing incredibly well Orange Culture has shown at Pitti in Florence and was a finalist for LVMH in Paris. Tokyo James, Style Temple, and Meena are all brands defining the country’s rising fashion identity. Lagos now hosts two international standard fashion weeks, GTV and Lagos Fashion and Design Week. Fashion publications like A Nasty Boy are championing the local scene and slowly getting noticed across the world. Beth is also not the only agency in Lagos. FEW, an agency that opened in 201 5, has placed 9 models in international agencies, including IMG, Marilyn Paris and Elite. They also represent Elizabeth Ayodele who recently walked for Fendi, Miu Miu and Saint Laurent in her breakout first season in Milan. Increased competition is obviously a net positive for the wider industry. “I’m trying to add value to the domestic market,” says Elohor, “I can’t do that if I send all my models abroad.” As Laura the Head Booker notes, there are jobs in Lagos that can earn a model 1 mn Naira (£2,267), though she admits they aren’t the majority. There is a difference between models who work well internationally and those who work well domestically in Nigeria. For the international market they are looking for tall, skinny models, who can fit the strict requirements of the sample sizes, and typically look for darker skinned models. The domestic market prefers light skinned models, isn’t bothered by height, and wants more flesh. “For example, Victor, who has worked so well internationally, hasn’t really booked anything here, he’s too skinny,” Elohor says. Interested to see what the domestic market actually looks like, I ask if I can go with Ruth to some of her castings.

ENVOGUE MAGAZINE1 3

“When you’re on the runway, you're so focused, you can’t see the crowd along the sides, or anything else. It’s dark – all the light is on you,” she says.`

We meet at the agency and she is dressed in the international models uniform: black skinny jeans, a black crop top which shows off her flat stomach, and light, barely perceptible makeup. Her hair is slicked back tightly. She has a slight scar on her cheek, the equivalent of Claudia Schiffer’s mole. We drive through the early morning traffic to Polo Avenue, an upscale multi-brand boutique that stocks luxury brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. When we arrive another Beth model Onyinye is already there. She is booked for a job and is there for the fitting. Ruth is made to put on some high heels, a green hat, and to carry a red Gucci bag that says Real on the side. She walks the length of the store, as if on the runway. If she gets the job she will be this season’s #polomuse. “Internationally, they look for tall, skinny, typically darker skinned models. The domestic market prefers light skinned models, isn’t bothered by height, and wants more flesh” – Elizabeth Elohor Next, we stop by Jewel by Lisa, headed by the celebrated local designer Lisa Folawiyo. They’ve already used Ruth for three campaigns. “Everyone is crazy about her,” says Zara Okpara the PR Manager who was overseeing the fitting. Ruth tried on some items from Jewel by Lisa’s diffusion line, which sells for around £50-£1 50, while their main line, which features intricate traditional embroidery can sell for anywhere up to £1 ,000. As we drive back to the agency Ruth looks out of the window. “The hustle and bustle of this city is so serious,” she says. When I ask Ruth if her family have been supportive of her modelling career she shakes her head. As Elohor notes there are still misperceptions about the modelling industry in some quarters. Some of her models, like Ruth, are not from cosmopolitan places like Lagos, and their families don’t necessarily understand what it means to become a model. Nigeria is a conservative country and it can sometimes take convincing. “Even Mayowa. She was scouted in 201 3, but her family wouldn’t let her come. It was only in 201 4 that we managed to get her to be allowed to compete in Model Look,” says Laura Okah, who acts as her manager in Nigeria. “It was really hard to convince them. I had to walk out on my dad. Sometimes they would call me and say they are coming to get me and take me back. Things are getting better now that they see I’m doing well,” says Ruth. “At first, I wasn’t even sure about modelling,” she admits. When she attended Elite Model Look, it was her first time ever in Lagos, and she’d only been in the city for three days by the time of the competition. “On the first day, the head of Elite Look was like, Ruth, if only you can walk well, you will win this competition,” Ruth says, “and I was like, ok, I will try. But whatever I did, I couldn’t get it.” She had never worn heels before, which didn't help. “The organisers would say competition day is coming! In my head I was just like, days come and go, please, just let me go back to Warri. But I didn’t want to embarrass myself, so I gave it my best shot,” she says. The hard work paid off, and she’s excited for her next step she is travelling to the US at the end of the summer to meet with agencies. It will be her first trip outside of Nigeria. In the meantime though, she has come to enjoy modelling. “When you’re on the runway, you're so focused, you can’t see the crowd along the sides, or anything else. It’s dark – all the light is on you,” she says.` ENVOGUE MAGAZINE1 4

TRENDY MAKEUP IDEAS ON THE GO Put down the contouring powder, step away from the fake eyelashes, we’ve got 5 new make up ideas, that are easy and trendy, and with these make-up ideas, you are ready to pop out in less than 1 minute. Use these make-up ideas to freshen up your routine this 201 7, here they areX 1. Chestnut-coloured Lipstick Lighter than brown but darker than tan, this chestnut is cool in a vintage kind of way and because it’s a unique hue, all you need is a bit of concealer and mascara and you are good to go. Here make-up Artist Lynsey Alexander at Kenzo created the tawny shade by linning lips with Brown lip pencil, then layering a custom blend of yellow, brown, orange and red pigments on top. You can try it at home without playing mixologist. Here we suggest 2. Red Lips – and Nothing else Classic red is back and it looks much cooler against bare skin. Just wash your face, apply red lipstick and that’s it. If you can’t go completely bare, then apply concealer on your face put red lipstick and you are out of the door. You won’t believe how good it looks. 3. Cobalt Liner This is one cool way to apply blue eye liner, line the inner rims of the eye and also the top and bottom lash lines. Then smoosh a bit of cobalt cream eye shadow into the roots of the lashes. By having the vivid blue shade, both along the waster line and the lash line, your eyes are sure to be much brighter and more defined. 4. Sunset Shadow The blazing pinks, reds and oranges of the sunset look just as beautiful on the eyes as they do on instagram. You can create this warm hue by mixing red and orange eye shadow and lightly spreading the custom blend over the lids and creases with your fingers. It’s a complimentary look and the darker your skin tone, the stronger you can go with the orange shade. 5. Brilliant Gold Shadow A lot of Runway models are doing there thing with the gold eyeshadow, and you can also jump on the trend. Grab the shiniest, shimmer – packed gold shadow or liner you can find and dress up your eyes as subtly or as outrageously as you like. ENVOGUE MAGAZINE 22

I am not saying it’s a bad thing, but that my work is being recognized one way or the other. Then Phyno, I think it’s because if the Igbo accent that is why a lot of people want to liken it to his style. Well, it wasn’t intentional. It was how I was feeling that day and the way I attacked the song. On the song's remix with Olamide: He heard the song and liked it. He went on Twitter to ask if I would love to do the remix, he would love to be on it. And I didn’t waste any time before I answered yes. When Asked: If you were not doing music what would you be doing? If I wasn’t doing music, I would be playing football. So you are a good footballer? Yes, I was a good footballer when I was playing football all the time, but there is a big question mark on my fitness right now as a footballer. But if I wasn’t doing music, trust me, I would probably be in one academy somewhere trying to be the next Ronaldinho or Messi.

NOLLYFEST MOVIE MANIA

Movie Review : My wife and I

some cast and crew of my wife and I

In truth, 'My Wife and I' wins with its humour. Ramsey Nouah, Omoni Oboli, and other cast of ‘My Wife and I’ including Rachel Oniga and Ngozi Nwosu. The truth is Body swapping movies are not new. There’s the famous Freaky Friday and very vulgar The ChangeUp, and a number of others too many to mention. So one isn’t particularly wary of the hackneyed plot – it is more execution than story that makes all the difference, so we look forward to being plunged into a world of great acting and well-done fantasy. My Wife and I tells the story of Toyosi and Ebere, a couple who has been married for 1 7 years. They have issues, all of them being summarized into one – the fact that they are tired of being married to each other and would rather be divorced. They are fighting all the time, in the morning, at night, on the phone, in parties, everywhere, and their daughter, Ireti, is fed up. But she isn’t the only one. Their son is too, and their parents as well. Osunde and Onyiriuka in ‘My Wife and I’ Everyone is, so Toyosi’s superstitious mother recommends a pastor for counseling. This pastor is popular for his uncommon methods, so when he prays with them in his office, we immediately anticipate something bizarre. It turns out more bizarre than we imagined, but even the characters are not as terrified as we are. After all, it is every day we find people who actually switch bodies. Easy peasy. So they decide they have to manage each other’s lives and must be united to do this. This is how they get back their groove, by constantly being in communication and trying to make sure their family and work lives don’t crumble because of this. As expected, they ultimately admit to their individual and collective shortcomings and fall back in love. Ramsey Nouah and Omoni Oboli are quite versed actors, so it is easy to understand why they are cast as lead and lead us into believing this is a great idea. Their visit to a pastor gave an unexpected result. My Wife and I leaves you with a knotty feeling of dissatisfaction in your stomach, even though it manages to be entertaining while at it. The movie is directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye and also stars Ngozi Nwosu, Rachael Oniga, Dorcas Sola- Fapson, Sambasa Nzeribe, Jemima Osunde, Abimbola Craig, Bolanle Ninalowo and Seyi Law as the mischievous pastor. SHOEGASM Media Personality Tajé Prest presents The Traveler Tajé has launched its second collection titled The Traveler’s Taje. This collection is a limited edition inspired by Taje‘s travels as she toured Africa recently. Taje explains she was exploring different countries – Burkina Faso, Senegal & Cote D’Ivoire, and their fabrics, which in turn fascinated her and became the theme of the new collection. Each country she visited, she loved seeing a non- tourist version of the country, as she was able to shop for fabrics like a local. The collection is made up of three pairs of slides . Each slide type is named after its material origin as she felt it was best to keep them true to its source. Taje‘s inspiration for the collection is the need for us all to embrace different cultures the best way we can. And to her, this was her first step towards that goal.

Media girl Stephanie coker had a magical wedding recently in Greece. She got married to her beau in a magical location in Mykonos. The location showed a blue pool with the lovely couple standind before there guests. Stephanie rocked two wedding dresses during the occasion with one of them designed by top sartorial genius Andrea Iyamah. Talking about how she met her Husband Daniel Aderinokun she said "He saw me sitting alone while waiting to meet with someone who never showed up, so he sent a waitress over to ask if I wantted anything to eat," she says. "I declined because I was there to work and I just wanted to have my meeting. The waitress cheekily suggested I should accept his offer, so I ended up getting takeaway and giving him my business card. He gave me a call and the rest is history ( by the way, when he tells this story, he says I was staring at him-I wasn't!)." she adds in conclusion. Happy married life to them.

OUTDOOR WEDDINGS 5 Hot Tips To Make Your OutdoorWedding Dream Come True

Weddings generally have that awe-inspiring factor to them, its difficult to maintain a downcast mood when two people are promising each other forever. Add the outdoors to it and you have the perfect atmosphere for a joyous celebration. Having your wedding outdoors can be very amazing but like every good thing, it requires some patience and good planning. There are so many things to think (and worry) about, from the weather to the bathroom situation, it’s a lot to take on! If you’re thinking of getting married al fresco, here are a few ideas to keep things running smoothly. Prepare For The Weather: This is by far the most important point to note as an ill-timed rain is enough to ruin all your plans. Consider the prevalent weather situation and plan accordingly. Make provision for sturdy umbrellas and other necessities that may be required. Make Your Guests Comfortable: Make your guests’ comfort top priority by making sure your site is wellequipped with things like fans, outdoor heating units, refreshing non-alcoholic drinks e.t.c. Nail down a plan for buying or renting the things your venue doesn’t offer as early as possible. Plan Your Photography: Talk to your photographer about where the sun will be during your ceremony so you can plan the ceremony and seating arrangements accordingly. You don’t want to realise the morning of that day that you’re going to be hidden in shadows or squinting into the sun in your photos. Windproof Decor: If wind is a possibility (and it is most places), double check that all your decor can withstand a very strong breeze. Prepare For Sound: Make sure everyone will be able to hear you! No one wants to strain to hear your vows or the toasts. Depending on how open and/or busy your space is, you may need to hire someone to set up audio equipment.

REL AXAT ION

What does relaxation mean to you. Lounging by the pool, reading an entertaining novel, taking a walk, watching your favorite movie and so on. Amid the struggles of daily life, relaxation has become a priority. When you are stressed, do one of these six things and you will see the difference. You will start feeling relaxed in a minute. Stare up at the ceiling and count down from 60. Gazing

upward stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which lowers blood pressure and slows the pace of the breath. Slow, deliberate counting will also help rid your mind of distractions.

Write down your worries in a notebook, then set it aside for tomorrow. Putting your problems

down on paper—and knowing that they're there for you to work through later— may help take your mind off of them while you're trying to rest. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth 10 times. Deep breathing slows the

heart rate and calms the body. Focusing on your stomach rising and falling, and your breath flowing in and out, will help you concentrate on your body, instead of outside distractions. Imagine floating on a cloud, and what you would see passing by. Guided imagery is a

powerful meditation tool that can give you a temporary escape from everyday worries and stresses. Invite all your senses to participate: Imagine what you see, hear, and smell in this peaceful place.

Slowly tense and relax your muscles, from your head down to your toes. The body responds

to stress by involuntarily tensing your muscles, which can cause pain and discomfort. Progressive muscle relaxation reduces muscle tension and general mental anxiety.
